In today's podcast episode we chat with Associate Professor Chris Wilkins from SHORE & Whariki Research Centre, the College of Health at Massey University in New Zealand about the preferences for different cannabis law reform options among the general population and key national stakeholders in New Zealand. To provide some background, several countries including Australia and New Zealand are debating the future of cannabis policy. In 2020 a national referendum to legalise recreational cannabis use and supply (via the Cannabis Legalisation and Control Bill (CLCB)) was held in New Zealand, and was narrowly defeated. We chat with Chris around the key factors in the defeat of the CLCB.
- This episode of The Cannabis Maker Podcast is brought to you by Lost Coast Wellness - In this episode we're joined by André Nilsen to discuss Cannabis Law Reform in Norway. André is NORML Norway's Chairman of the Board and has joined us to explain the cannabis approach in Norway. We discuss legislation, legalisation, access to medical cannabis, police reform, personal experience and more in Norway. About NORML in Norway: "Normal, the Norwegian chapter of the marijuana legalisation organization NORML, was conceived in 1994 on the precursor to the public internet, a BBS, by a group of people who did not believe in the exaggerations regarding the dangers of cannabis propagated by the government and mass media. Since 2013, Normal has rebuilt it's organization and strives to become a serious organization and political force in Norwegian drug policy. Normal occupied an office in Hjelmsgt. 3, an activist site in Oslo, until 2014, when the building was damaged in a fire. Since then, Normal has shared offices with The association for humane drug policy (FHN), then in a local startup hub The Kasbah. Currently we are sharing office with the Association for Safer Drug Policies and EmmaSofia, an organisation for evidence based psychedelics politics." Peter Reynolds, the President of CLEAR Cannabis Law Reform was our guest on today’s show. CLEAR have been campaigning for years to try to get the government to reform the way we treat cannabis. Momentum has been gaining over the past few years in this area. More than half of the states in America have made cannabis either medically or recreationally legal and Canada have since followed suit. Now with Brexit on the near horizon and the mass global destabilisation caused by the corona virus pandemic, there is a real possibility of reform in the near future. I learned a lot from this conversation and I’m sure you will too. Embarrassingly for me, in a subject area I thought I was well versed in having written a few pieces for blogs in Canada, I was corrected a few times, but that’s definitely one of the joys of getting to do this podcast, it is the chance to be corrected. Cannabis Capitalism segments of the Compassionate Capitlist Podcast explore the entrepreneur and investor interest in the trends in legalization of marijuana, cannabis & hemp derived products and the developing supply chaing. Georgia's history with the criminalization and legalization of marijuana is full of twists, turns, and technicalities. Dar'shun Kendrick is a Georgia native, a business master, a elected official, a practicing attorney and a series 65 security license holder. Her firm Kendrick Advisory and Advocacy Group (http://kaag.co) works with entrepreneurs to understand the legal issues and capital requirements for setting up a Cannabis business in Georgia. Dar'shun joins Karen to discuss the capitalist, making money as a founder or investor, aspect of capitalizing on the legal cannabis and hemp industry in Georgia. Georgia took a bold step in 2015 with HB1, Haleigh’s Hope Act, to legalizecertain cannabis extracts for medicinal use with very specfiic ailments. It wasn't until 2019, though, that laws were passed that made it legal to sell, purchase, and produce those specifically legalized medicinal treatments. Hemp was legalized under Georgia's Farm Bill HB213 in April 2019, but the means at which to license for the different participants in the supply chain have not be finalized at the time of this recording. Seeking to identify the plant origins of the early sacramental beverages Soma and Haoma (Cannabis), this study draws a connection between the psychoactive properties of these drinks and the widespread use of cannabis among Indo-Europeans during this time. Exploring the role of these libations as inspiration for the Indian Rig Veda and the Persian Avestan texts, this examination discusses the spread of cannabis use across Europe and Asia, the origins of the Soma and Haoma cults, and the shamanic origins of modern religion.Chris Bennett has been researching the historical role of cannabis in the spiritual life of humanity for more than a quarter century. He is the co-author of Green Gold the Tree of Life: Marijuana in Magic and Religion (1995); Sex, Drugs, Violence and the Bible (2001); and the author of Cannabis and the Soma Solution (2010). In this segment of the Cannabis Capitalist Radio show, Karen Rands is joined again by Kristen Yoder to discuss a fast path to losing money in the cannabis industry. We like to believe that people have the best intentions and want to do no harm that would hurt the momentum of the movement to legalize cannabis across America. Where one person sees the opportunity to invest time and money into industry in its infancy with all the potential to be as big than any other sector and to help society with an alternative to opiod addiction and alchohol related illnesses; another person, it seems, will seek ways to manipulate the hopes and dreams of entrepreneurs and investors by providing misleading information and half-truthes for the sole pupose of making a quick buck by enticing the unsuspecting into fraudulant opportunities. Kristen will talk about real life examples she has seen of fraud being perpetrated and how in some ways the regulatory environment provides fertile ground. Karen Rands, as host of the Compassionate Capitalist Radio Podcast, sees the legal Cannabis Industry as a micro-economy within a whole new rapidly developing industry. As an influencer to investors and entrepreneurs, Karen has created the Cannabis Capitalist Radio series to educate the market on all the aspects of this industry before they invest time and money starting or investing in a business in the Cannabis Industry. Kristen Yoder is a 40 under 40 Rising Stars in Cannabis 2018 & a trusted source for investors and investment firms entering the Cannabis Industry. She has spent 13 years managing successful cannabis businesses in every sector of the industry. Her company, Soil to the Oil is sought after for their insight and expertise.
Karen Rands is taking the Compassionate Capitalist Radio Show into new territory to share with her listeners the economic impact of the growing trend legalizing various forms of Cannabis. In this segment of the Cannabis Capitalism Radio, Karen Rands will talk with Michael Patterson on the various types of raw materials that make up the Cannabis Industry, and how they are commercialized. Before there was legalization of Cannabis for medicinal and recreational use, there were elements and variations of the Cannabis Plant (Marijuana) that were legal and already being commercialized for many different consumer and industrial uses. Michael is a recognized expert in the industry in the commercialization of Hemp. You may be surprised that Hemp has been cultivated to replace fossil fuels in many derivative products. Listen to this segment to learn how and what the future may hold when it comes to the various products derived from Cannabis. ***** Michael Patterson is the CEO of US Cannabis Pharmaceutical Research and Development LLC (US Cannabis), a privately-held developmental consulting firm which was established in 2014 with a mission of moving society forward through legalized cannabis. US Cannabis develops the legal cannabis/hemp market across all platforms (education, cultivation, production, dispensing, research and development, management operations and compliance, and physician services). http://uscprd.com Karen Rands is the Founder of Kugarand Capital Holdings, a full service advisory firm to entrepreneurs seeking to launch and grow their businesses with insight on best practices and access to capital.
