The ARC Challenge, created by Francois Chollet, tests how well AI systems can generalize from a few examples in a grid-based intelligence test. We interview the current winners of the ARC Challenge—Jack Cole, Mohammed Osman and their collaborator Michael Hodel. They discuss how they tackled ARC (Abstraction and Reasoning Corpus) using language models. We also discuss the new "50%" public set approach announced today from Redwood Research (Ryan Greenblatt). Jack and Mohammed explain their winning approach, which involves fine-tuning a language model on a large, specifically-generated dataset and then doing additional fine-tuning at test-time, a technique known in this context as "active inference". They use various strategies to represent the data for the language model and believe that with further improvements, the accuracy could reach above 50%. Michael talks about his work on generating new ARC-like tasks to help train the models. They also debate whether their methods stay true to the "spirit" of Chollet's measure of intelligence. Despite some concerns, they agree that their solutions are promising and adaptable for other similar problems. Note: Jack's team is still the current official winner at 33% on the private set. Ryan's entry is not on the private leaderboard or eligible. Chollet invented ARC in 2019 (not 2017 as stated) "Ryan's entry is not a new state of the art. We don't know exactly how well it does since it was only evaluated on 100 tasks from the evaluation set and does 50% on those, reportedly. Meanwhile Jacks team i.e. MindsAI's solution does 54% on the entire eval set and it is seemingly possible to do 60-70% with an ensemble" Jack Cole: https://x.com/Jcole75Cole https://lab42.global/community-interview-jack-cole/ Mohamed Osman: Mohamed is looking to do a PhD in AI/ML, can you help him? An injury to Nathan Cleary was the big news from Penrith's Round 10 win over the Bulldogs. It has big repercussions for the Panthers and also New South Wales. One positive is that it gives a opportunity to young half Jack Cole. He's been tipped as the natural successor for Jarome Luai and with another reserve half Brad Schneider also picking up an injury he's set to see a fair bit of 1st Grade action. Cole told Andrew Moore and team he's been loving being around top quality players and trying to improve his game.

Pastor Zack Strong Are You Ready? Text: Ecclesiastes 3.1, 1 Chronicles 12.32, 1 Thessalonians 5.1-2-4 The more we talk about what Jesus is doing, the greater the manifestation. We should have a knowing of the times and seasons; we should not be caught off guard. Moves of God Through History -1926 through baseball player Billy Sunday in Cape Girardeau; built an auditorium on the corner of Bellevue and Middle Street that would hold 5,000 people; 250,000 people costed within 5 weeks; that wood is now part of Houck Stadium Field House: also went to Paducah where 100,00 people came to Jesus. -1906 Azusa Street, the Second Blessing; marked by interracial crowds from around the world; daily meetings for three years; spurred the Assembly of God and Apostolic movements -Great Healing movement; Oral Robert's, A.A. Allen, Jack Cole; ambulances would bring people for healing off of their stretchers -Latter Rain movement; gifts of the spirit, women in ministry, Joel 2.28 prophecies -Billy Graham, college movements -TV evangelism -The Jesus Movement/Charismatic Movement; turning from drugs and radical politics, taking the Bible at face value -Introduction of scripture songs and moving away from hymns; dancing -Full Gospel Businessmen -Discipleship/Shepherding Movement; family life, church growth, mega churches -Faith and Prosperity Movements; send and harvest time, positive living, speak the word -Prophecy Movements; prophetic ministry and worship, personal prophecy -Pensacola revivals; 4 million people over 5 years -Promise Keeper; 5 million men over 100 conferences -Kingdom Theology Movement; kingdom dominions instead of escaping from here 10 Marks of Great Revivals -timing during spiritual and moral decay -great times of prayer -word preached without compromise -great emphasis on the leading of the Holy Spirit -great conviction -glory to God only -reformation and renewal -manifestations of the power of God -brings controversy -has a cycle We are in a movement that is a culmination of all the movements God has already released into the earth for us to use. What happens here won't look like anywhere else. This is a no-name movement; there is an emphasis on the body of God.
In his mission to further illuminate the not-so-brightly lit corners of the Amazing Comics Group, our Host describes the various features of Amazing Weekly with a wit wetted by wine and Pepsi. Take #116 for example. Cover by L.B. Cole, a Thun'da story by Frank Frazetta, a Plastic Man adventure by Jack Cole, Spacehawk by Basil Wolverton, a western tale by Everett Raymond Kinstler, a Prince Valiant reprint by Hal Foster, a classic post-war Spirit by Will Eisner, Hey Look by Harvey Kurtzman, a romance comic by Jack Kirby and Joe Simon, Babe by Boody Rogers, and a Bernard Krigstein story. Now that's a gonga!
Recently, I uploaded a podcast about a place in Alabama called Jack Cole Road. I promised then that you'd hear more about that road. Well, today's the day. The person who submitted the story idea to me had mentioned that is stepson had his own adventures in that area, and he got him to send me those encounters. I combined them with a few strange events that happened to my own son on a road near our hometown, and another story on Jack Cole Road was born. I hope you'll enjoy it.

Intro Background (1:42) Comic book death - the Comet was the first superhero to die in the comics, in Pop Comics #17 (July 1941) - created by Jack Cole for MLJ Comics, the precursor to Archie Comics, John Dickering was a scientist who injected himself with a gas that allowed him to fly at the expense of uncontrollable rays that shot from his eyes. He was killed by henchman of a gangster he helped incarcerate. Matt’s point - the in-universe acknowledgment both Marvel & DC have introduced that death isn’t permanent, and how that’s starting to affect people Exhibit A: X-Factor. There's a 30 some-odd issue arc where Siryn flat-out refuses to acknowledge that her father Banshee was killed in a plane explosion battling Vulcan. She totally laughs it off at first, because he's an old MI-5 agent, and he's had to fake his death a couple of times before. When the rest of the team offers its condolences, she asks who's up for Chinese food. She's going to get a notice in a couple of days that he's just fine and he's in hiding for black ops reasons. When Cyclops delivers Banshee's video will and she has to face the possibility that it's the real deal, she switches her coping mechanism to "OK, but he's an X-Man, and X-Men are always dying and coming back to life, so he's only dead for now. He's not REALLY dead. He'll be back." This goes on and on for years. And sure enough, one Celestial Death Seed later, he's alive and well on Krakoa. Exhibit B: Blackest Night. Just, all of it. An in-universe explanation of why the cycle of death and resurrection are just part of the job description of superheroes and supervillains, apparently. Exhibit C: Final Crisis. Superman gives a eulogy for Martian Manhunter in which he says he'll be praying for him to be resurrected. Exhibit D: Astonishing X-Men, The Cure: When Shadowcat finds Colossus alive and well, she is lucid enough to quickly run through the gamut of all the possible explanations: "You have to know, if you're a clone or a robot or an alternate universe thingie, I can deal, but if you're some shapeshifter or pscionicist watching me twitch, I will kill you with an axe." Finding someone you thought was dead is alive is so common that there's a checklist to go through. Exhibit E: Spider-Man Unlimited. The obituary writer at the Daily Bugle tells Ben Urich that the worst part of his job is having to write an obituary for superheroes. They're just going to come back to life, and then he'll have to write a retraction. Exhibit F: The most recent one. The Incredible Hercules #129. Herc takes Amadeus Cho to Erebus, the region of the Greek underworld that is adjacent to the mortal realm. It's presented to Amadeus as a casino where we see a litany of dead comic book characters who don't feel like being "all the way dead" yet whiling away their time gambling for the right to be the next one to come back to life. Does this have a timely real world analogue in psychology? For denial of mortality, terror management theory, and risk assessment? Did we not all just spend the last year witnessing front and center the wildly divergent levels of comfort people have with the very concept of death? Some people outright thinking nothing can happen to them or anyone else they know? Some people taking the fatalistic attitude of, "well, SOMETHING's gonna kill me"? I feel like the ability of human beings to take stock of proper risk assessment of things that are dangerous and/or potentially lethal, compounded with the things that could harm or kill them but are so remotely unlikely as to not even really exist? Today, I am joined by veteran Broadway dancer and choreographer Mary Jane Houdina, who has lent her talents to such shows as Annie, Follies, Moose Murders, Into the Light, Rachael Lily Rosenbloom, The Fig Leaves are Falling, Georgy, and more. Tune in to hear her tell the wonderful stories of her amazing career, including prompting Gene Nelson every night, refusing to do a certain dance in Rockabye Hamlet, why she loved Moose Murders, NOT auditioning for Jack Cole, dubbing tap in Follies, and more.
There isn’t a theatre choreographer more associated with their own unique style than Bob Fosse. The infamous Oscar-, Emmy- and Tony-winning director and choreographer created his own signature technique that distinguished shows like Chicago, Pippin, and Damn Yankees into dance masterpieces. This April, FX launches a new limited television series Fosse/Verdon, based on the 2013 biography by Sam Wesson with a focus on his marriage and collaboration with Gwen Verdon. In the third episode of the F/X Fosse/Verdon miniseries, the episode’s primary musical moment does not celebrate Fosse at all. It is a flashback sequence where a young Gwen Verdon, working as a reviewer for the Hollywood Bugle, first sees the work of seminal choreographer Jack Cole. Performing in a nightclub as Cole’s dancers are Eliza Ohman, Adrian Lee, Reed Luplau, Ryan Steele and my guest for this episode, Ricky Ubeda. Ricky Ubeda made his Broadway debut in the Broadway revivals of On The Town, which he joined just after winning the 11th season of television’s So You Think You Can Dance. Since then, he’s become a mainstay of the Broadway stage, playing Mistoffelees in the revival of Cats and in the revival Carousel choreographed by Justin Peck. Learn more about your ad choices. “Me and My Baby” premiered on April 23rd, 2019. It was written by Debora Cahn, and directed by Adam Bernstein. In this episode we are treated to our first numbers not originally choreographed by Bob Fosse: the opening dream sequence to “Wilkommen” and the Jack Cole revue number, both choreographed by Andy Blankenbuehler. Portraying a bevy of beautiful secretaries are Mackenzie Bell, Anna Noble, Sam Farrow, Mindy Wallace and sisters Leigh-Ann and Sara Esty. In a flashback to Gwen’s early career in Los Angeles, we also see a quintet of Broadway’s best: Adrian Lee, Ricky Ubeda, Ryan Steele and Reed Luplau, all centered around the flawless Eliza Ohman. While the titular song from Chicago does not appear in the episode, the featured music that does all comes from the musical Cabaret, with music and lyrics by Kander & Ebb. We are treated to Ethan Slater portraying the legendary Joel Grey in “Wilkommen” and “Two Ladies” accompanied audibly by Alysha Umphress and Morgan Weed, and visually by Lindsay Dunn and Kaitlyn Edgar, as well as footage of Kelli Barrett singing “Mein Herr” from a previous episode. Bob ends his vacation early to begin the editing process of the Cabaret film, but is not happy to find that the editing team has already created an “unwatchable” rough cut that makes him feel like the world is falling apart. Bouncing into Gwen’s apartment with Chinese food, he asks Gwen to join him in the editing room because he’s “feeling a little lost right now.” However, Gwen isn’t available to assist Bob because she’s going to be in rehearsals for a play - a straight play - called Children! Children! The two play power struggle with their daughter Nicole, both claiming that they can’t be responsible for her while they are working. When Gwen passes her off to Bob for a dinner meeting with her manager Mel, Bob passes her off to his friend Paddy. When Gwen finds out, she explodes at Bob who considers watching his own daughter a favor. Being taken advantage of by Bob reminds Gwen of her teenage self living in Culver City, California, when caught the eye of James Henaghen, a prominent theatre critic who rapes, impregates and then agrees to marry the young Verdon. Filling in for her deadbeat husband, he reviews a performance of the Jack Cole dancers and realizes she needs to perform for him, leaving her bastard infant son with her parents to go on tour. In addition to playing wife and mother to Bob, the writers of Children! Children! want Gwen, two-time Tony Award winner, to audition for the role. She pretends to love the audition process: “it’s like a first date with a new crush,” and gets the part, although Mel confides in her that she was “not everyone’s first choice.” In rehearsal Gwen gets singled out with more notes and adjustments than she’s used to, a sharp juxtaposition to how she was lauded for her performance in Can Can. Feeling inept at her work in the rehearsal room, Gwen offers her services in Bob’s editing bay where she is subservient but shines. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

To a great extent the Broadway Musical has been a queer creation -- and for more than 125 years the musical theater world has been filled with brilliant and creative LGBTQ people, including many in the highest positions of power and influence. In this episode David Armstrong shares the fascinating stories Broadway's defining queer choreographers Robert Alton & Jack Cole, the legendary gay songwriters Noel Coward and Larry Hart, directors Monty Wooley and Moss Hart, and prolific bookwriter Herbert Fields, who is without doubt one of the most significant and least known inventors of the Broadway Musical! This week I'm joined by Tom Hurley and Jack Cole who are the founders of a Bristol based start up agency called Method Resourcing. In just their first year alone they did £1.2 million and have big goals for year 2. They both worked for large agencies that had a global presence to starting their very own agency from scratch. To quote Tom in this episode, 'Jack looked like a rabbit in headlights in his first week as he had no clients, no candidates and no one on the database'. Now they're closing in on their second year in business, having grown headcount, recently moved to a bigger office and aiming to smash last years numbers! We discuss everything in this episode from their top biller days, to their day plans when starting the business, to hiring failures, to being invested in from the start and much more. Episode 10 is about the timeline of Tara's bike ride and disappearance. It includes a map of where she was and at what time, where items were found and where she disappeared. With my co-host Lindsay Olson we go over the letter, timeline and map that Patty Doel left behind and note important parts of Tara's ride. We also include two interviews. One was a friend to Lawrence Romero, Jr. and the other is Jack Cole, Tara's boyfriend at the time of her disappearance. If we focus on the victim and the crime scene it will teach us about our suspects. To put pressure on the politicians please call the District Attorney Lemuel Martinez at (505)861-0311 and ask him to make arrests in this case. You can also call the Attorney General of the State of New Mexico Hector Balderas at (505)490-4060 and ask him to investigate the corruption in this case. Our guest today is Jack Cole. You may have not heard of him but trust me, you've seen his work. Jack is best known for the Six Million Dollar Man title sequence that opens the show. He has also designed sequences for great shows like the Rockford Files, Ellery Queen, Ironside, Bionic Woman and a host of others. Whats unique about his work is how he told the story of the show through his design of these title sequences. It was 1974 when he created the Six Million Dollar Man sequence. Lets put that into perspective for some of you youngsters - Steve Jobs was 19 and Apple wasnt even a thought until 1976, so personal computers didn't exist. That didn't stop Jacks creative juices to craft sequences that were rich in story and imagery. Six Million dollar man had several layers throughout the entire 2 minute sequence. So get ready design geeks, this ones gonna be special! Here is our conversation with designer Jack Cole. Fans can reach Jack directly here: jack_cole_559@hotmail.com Please send any questions or suggestions to ask@experienceperception.com

Of course Chip Kidd put out a book with Art Spiegelman. In an age when the transition to digital seems all but inevitable, both artists have a vested interest in the book as object, crafting tangible experiences that cannot be recreated on a tablet or e-book. For his part, Kidd is probably best known for his book designs for cartoonists Daniel Clowes and Chris Ware, along with a who’s who of contemporary novelists, including Haruki Murakami, Cormac McCarthy and Donna Tart. But the designer is an author in his own right, having penned two novels, a tribute to Plastic Man creator Jack Cole (alongside Spiegelman), and Bat-Manga, a collection dedicated to Japanese Batman esoterica. His latest release is Only What’s Necessary, a gorgeously designed volume that pulls together little seen work from Peanuts creator Charles Schulz, including sketches, unpublished strips, letters and merchandise. It’s a lovingly designed tribute to one of newspaper comics’ most beloved pioneers. Kidd joined me on the jam-packed floor of New York Comic Con to discuss the book and long standing love of print in a world gone digital.

On this episode of The Comics Alternative Interviews, Gene and Derek talk with editor, archivist, comics historian, and pop cultural Renaissance Man, Craig Yoe. The interview gets off to a wild start with a discussion of Secret Identity: The Fetish Art of Superman's Co-Creator Joe Shuster, a book that Craig says helped to put him on the publishing map. From there they highlight several of Yoe's more recent releases, including his Haunted Horror series, Jack Cole's Deadly Horror, Strange World of Your Dreams, The Art of Archie: The Covers, and the Ditko Monsters books. The Two Guys also ask Craig about his time with Disney, Nickelodeon, and especially his close association with Jim Henson and his experiences working on the Muppets. One of the most moving parts of the interview, in fact, is when Craig discusses his last meeting with Henson, the day of the legend's untimely death. But the overall tone of the conversation is upbeat. It's a free-flowing conversation filled with humor, horror, and erotic references. And it's one of the most enjoyable interviews the guys have ever conducted!

When you need to look at the arts from a lot of different angles, it's helpful to have someone like the versatile Fran Kirmser in your corner. Here’s an interview I conducted with Fran in the fall of 2007 as she was preparing to facilitate a series of workshops for performing artists, sponsored by The Field. We chatted about the many roles she has played in her distinguished career as a performer, choreographer, theater producer, master fundraiser, a consultant to dance and theater companies, and a founder of Manhattan Theatre Source. This radiant, seemingly tireless advocate of dance and theater has a grand vision and the practical tools to back it up. Guest Bio Fran Kirmser has worked for over twelve years, producing, promoting and fundraising for dance and theater. Collectively she has raised millions of dollars in institutional funding and corporate sponsorships for hundreds of companies. She has held positions in Development, Public Relations, Management, or Booking and Representation with the following organizations: Lincoln Center Avery Fisher Hall, Doug Varone and Dancers, Sandra Cameron Dance Center, Pentacle. L.E.A.P. : Law Enforcement Against Prohibition. COPS SAY LEGALIZE DRUGS! The stated goals of current U.S.drug policy -- reducing crime, drug addiction, and juvenile drug use -- have not been achieved, even after nearly four decades of a policy of "war on drugs". This policy, fueled by over a trillion of our tax dollars has had little or no effect on the levels of drug addiction among our fellow citizens, but has instead resulted in a tremendous increase in crime and in the numbers of Americans in our prisons and jails. With 4.6% of the world's population, America today has 22.5% of the worlds prisoners. But, after all that time, after all the destroyed lives and after all the wasted resources, prohibited drugs today are cheaper, stronger, and easier to get than they were thirty-five years ago at the beginning of the so-called "war on drugs".
