So motivation is one of the most interesting, I think, topics around when you're considering in relation to health and fitness, you know, you start off when you've made the decision that you want to make the change very motivated, very driven, you know, full of hope, full of excitement. And then, you know, after a period of time either life gets in the way, you know, things happen, which means that you can either do your workout or you haven't perhaps got the the food in the house to to to do the diet. And so motivation gradually drops off. And, you know, you hear it all the time. And I get asked questions all the time. People say, well, how do I keep motivated? What what tips can you give me around staying motivated to work out?Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/fitterhealthierdad. Our GDPR privacy policy was updated on August 8, 2022. Darren tells us how he was introduced into the outdoors, how he got into blogging and his unique recipe books. Facebook Twitter Instagram The Outdoor Biz Podcast Please give us a rating and review HERE Show Notes First Exposure to the Outdoors I was exposed to the outdoors, thankfully by my parents at a very young age. My brothers and I were introduced to the outdoors camping, fishing, hiking, hunting, all sorts of outdoor activities. So I got introduced to that at a very young age. We're talking like elementary school, single-digit years old. It's been with me pretty much since I was born. Things we talked about The Tenting Life Happy Camper Radio Wisconsin State Parks Pie Iron Recipes Dutch Oven Recipes Tin Foil Recipes The Best Tent Camping Guide Coordinates for Murder Other Outdoor Activities Cycling Paddling Hiking Advice I think the main thing is to have a passion for it. I've seen a lot of people who want to start a blog about X, whatever that might be. Maybe it's the outdoors, maybe it's auto repair. But really they need to have a big passion for it. Where when you're not doing your day job, you're thinking about how can I do this thing that I love to do, whether that's doing it with friends or going out by yourself or exploring a new place you haven't been to, or just reading books and other websites on it. So that's the biggest thing. Find where that passion area lies. Because then you'll stick with it. You'll always find new material and you'll just find it fun. Today on the More Cheese Less Whiskers podcast, we're talking with Darren Kirby all the way from the UK. Darren does something pretty neat. He works with dads as his target audience, but dads who want to be fit, energetic, and have the extra energy they want to really enjoy their life, play with their kids and be there for their family. We talked a lot about the idea of gathering that very specific target audience and creating the tools that allow them to identify themselves as the person he's trying to reach. We talked about the idea of creating some activators or a manifesto that will help dads identify where they are, and what they need to work on to really live this energetic life. This was a great conversation. I really enjoy it when people are crystal clear on who their target audience is because it unlocks the conversation about building that audience, communicating with that audience, and leading that audience to the next steps. Darren Kirby has undergone an empowering journey of transformation since 2013. From a lifestyle of city living, Darren transformed the way he was existing, until now, when he has become one of the country’s most accomplished triathletes, and who’s now in contention for the world championships for 2020. Darren joins Angela to discuss the way he turned his life around, and the practical ways in which you can do so, too. KEY TAKEAWAYS The biggest change Darren made to himself early on was with his nutrition. Research taught him about macro-nutrients, fat types, carbohydrates. When the weight started coming off, the fitness also began to improve. Darren had a profound emotional experience when he completed his first triathlon. The work you need to do in order to cross the finish line, is what drives him to do better each day. You can either eat food that is nutrient dense, and that will nourish you. Or you can eat processed foods, which are devoid of energy. But further than that, processed foods actually deplete you, as your good nutrients are used in order to process these bad foods. Exercise in the morning is very effective for starting the day off well. Sleep is something Darren has doubled down on this year. He is asleep by 9:30pm. There are many benefits to keeping the same sleep pattern throughout the week. Blue light reduction is also essential to good sleep. Any detailed or focussed work that Darren needs to do, are best done between his morning routine and when his children wake up. After lunchtime, he feels a dip in focus. Transforming your life is entirely possible. Using Darren’s Busy Dads programme will kick-start your own transformation and get you started on the road to health. BEST MOMENTS ‘You can get away with things until your early twenties, but by your thirties, it starts to take its toll’ ‘I’ve never felt like I wanted to stop’ ‘Calmness is a banned word in our house’ ‘Find something you love to do, and it won’t be an issue. You’ll find ways to do it’ ‘I’m not superman.
