A lot of Christian men treat fitness and health like optional side quests—something nice to care about after the important stuff is handled. But what if stewarding your body is actually part of your calling as a husband, father, and leader? Right behind spiritual and relational capital sits physical capital, and ignoring it eventually impacts everything else God has entrusted to you. In this episode, we talk honestly about the “dad bod” mindset, why physical health matters more than most Christian men want to admit, and some practical ways to start taking stewardship of your body seriously. Steven shares the conversation with his doctor that changed everything for him, and together we unpack how better health can help you show up stronger for your wife, your kids, and the work God has given you. No Alex, no guests — just two dads talking honestly about what happens to training when kids show up and life gets real. This isn't a "here's how to stay jacked after having kids" episode. It's more honest than that. It's about shifting your entire reason for training, giving yourself permission to let go of who you were in the gym before kids, and why the example you set matters more than any number on the bar.Drew is a single dad to a five-year-old girl. John has a three-year-old daughter and an eight-month-old son. Both of them have figured some of this out the hard way. What we get into:How both of their relationships with fitness completely changed after having kids — and why that's actually a good thing. Why Drew stopped caring about PRs and started doing yoga in the garage with his daughter.John's 12-and-a-half-year streak of daily pushups, the Hugh Jackman Wolverine program, and what 11 days of keto on coconut oil actually feels like. The girl dad angle — setting the standard for the type of person your daughter grows up to value, and why that starts now.Why being "there" after a brutal training session isn't the same as being present.Facing your own mortality when you become a parent — and why that's less dark than it sounds. The stroller as a training tool, hiking in dresses, and using your kid as a weight because she thinks it's hilarious. The Open by Andre Agassi, early sports specialization, and why making fitness fun early beats everything else.Mentioned in this episode:Mass Hysteria by Michael Blevins — All In Performance, required reading for girl dadsThe Open by Andre Agassi — John's current read, highly recommendedLong and Strong — the Mops and Moes training program on Train HeroicPhil Collins, Tarzan, Brother Bear, Robin Hood, The Wild Robot — Drew has opinionsWant a program that fits real life — not a perfect schedule that doesn't exist? The Mops and Moes bundle on Train Heroic is built for people with actual constraints. This week on Two Parents & A Podcast, we are deep in the weeds of toddler social skills, specifically: how to actually teach a toddler to share and the power of modeling behavior for toddlers because… they are watching (and copying) EVERYTHING. Then we recap Mother's Day (the four of us at the coffee shop, my protein pancakes at The Well, and then our chaotic visit to a new store in Austin (s/o to Tiffany the most patient employee in the store, we love you). Plus, Harrison's Father's Day request (NO gifts (how many times has he said this on the pod until Alex listens lol)) and a little 2 under 2 update because Tate is more and more OBSESSED with Rocky everyday and we genuinely did not expect this
We're trained to think that women's ultimate fantasy is the bodybuilder with six-pack abs. So when women say that they also appreciate a nice dad bod, are they actually telling the truth, or just being nice? There are biological and psychological reasons why women prefer one over the other, and I found the science behind this one really interesting. Happy Mother's Day to all the moms out there! The Dad Bod is all about sharing stories of what it means to be a dad today, but we actually captured one mom's story back in season 1. It was during my interview with my fellow dad Edwin. Throughout our conversation, he kept pointing back to his wife, Pat. At one point, I said to himx, “You've come a long way in life from your childhood to where you are now. What are the best decisions you've made? When did you start to find some stability in life?” He answered, “When I married Pat. She does everything, for our kids, for her parents, for my mom. I wouldn't be where I am without her. Our kids wouldn't be where they are without her. She's the glue that holds us all together.”Months after our conversation, I reflected on Edwin and Pat's story in an essay on The Dad Bod substack simply titled, "Fire," because of the way fire was a defining word, element, and force in their lives as individuals, as a couple, and as parents. So in honor of Mother's Day, I am sharing Pat's story, a specially-wrapped gift for the occasion. I'm grateful to be sharing this conversation with you: Pat, Fire of Mom.

Full Show Notes: https://bengreenfieldlife.com/dadprotocol What does it take to show up as a strong, present, and resilient father in a world that gives most men no clear blueprint? In this episode with John Schott, you’ll explore why so many dads feel depleted, distracted, and unsupported, and how that ties directly to poor recovery, low energy, and lack of structure. You’ll also discover how simple systems built around circadian rhythms, movement, hydration, and family routines can restore your physical edge while improving patience, focus, and leadership at home. This conversation goes beyond surface-level advice, exploring what truly shapes a man's identity and why the way he shows up as a father and leader ripples into his family and our broader culture. John Schott is a bodyworker, wellness practitioner, and founder of the Conscious Dad Protocol, a system designed to help men optimize their physical health, emotional resilience, and leadership within the family unit. With years of experience in fascia work, recovery techniques, and holistic living, John combines ancestral principles with modern strategies to create practical systems that support both performance and presence. Through his work, he focuses on helping fathers build stronger bodies, clearer minds, and deeper connections with their families while navigating the demands of modern life.

In this episode of the Total Fitness Bodybuilding Podcast, I sit down with my good friend Zaid Adamo, an IFBB Pro Bodybuilder who earned his pro card at age 47 - proving that elite results aren't just reserved for the young. Zaid shares his full journey through the sport of bodybuilding, from humble beginnings and early competitions in Iraq, to working his way through the amateur ranks, moving to Canada, and ultimately achieving his lifelong goal of becoming an IFBB Pro Bodybuilder later in life. We take a deep dive into how training approaches evolve from your teens, 20s, and 30s to training after 40 - and why respecting your body, focusing on recovery, longevity, and joint health becomes more important than ego lifting as you age. We also break down: The key differences between bodybuilding and powerlifting. How training goals, volume, and intensity differ between the two. What everyday lifters can apply from each training style. Finally, we tackle a topic that's often avoided or oversimplified: Performance Enhancing Drugs in Bodybuilding. We discuss: Natural vs enhanced bodybuilding. The role PEDs play at higher levels of the sport. How PED usage has changed over the years. The pros, cons, and serious safety considerations. Why drugs alone can't replace discipline, structure, and years of consistent training. Whether you're a competitive bodybuilder, a recreational gym-goer, or a man over 40 looking to lose fat, build muscle, and train smarter for the long haul - this is one episode that delivers real-world lessons you can actually apply. This conversation is about longevity, consistency, and getting better with age. ================== If you have any questions or if you'd like to learn more about one-on-one Fitness & Nutrition Coaching Programs you can schedule in for a Free Strategy Session Coaching Call with Lee at: https://www.leehayward.com/call E-mail: leehayward.com@gmail.com Please friend me on Facebook at: https://www.facebook.com/lee.hayward Download a Free Copy of my Ripped After 40 PDF Program. After unpacking our culture's obsession with “perfect” bodies, this week we're flipping the script. In this episode, we're celebrating what's actually hot: the things that don't get enough love in the gay world. We're talking dad bods, wrinkles, kindness, confidence, awkward charm, conversational skills, and all the real stuff that makes someone magnetic. Some of the things we're talking about: How social media perpetuates social norms that don't fit The traits we find sexy that don't get enough love Stories of when we've fallen for people outside our type The roles of dating apps in attraction and rejection How our types have changed (and how they haven't) This is our love letter to all the guys out there who feel they aren't sexy because they don't fit the mold. It's time to expand our definition of sexy and give some overdue appreciation where it's due.
