Being a proud New Jerseyan leaves you with a bunch of lousy choices when deciding what sports teams to root for. No matter where you look you're in jeopardy of betraying your beloved state. We have two football teams (and a Major League Soccer team) who pretend they don't even play here. An NBA team that split on us. A NJ Devils hockey team that wholly embraces the state yet struggles to win over fans who still root for the NY Rangers. Then there's the complexity of the divide between Philly and New York teams. Nowhere in the country, perhaps, is the simple act of rooting for a sports team so complicated. To make sense of it all and vent a little, we turned Benny Horowitz, drummer for The Gaslight Anthem, who shows off his Jersey pride in ways small (the tattoo on his arm) and globally (the flag that hangs behind his drum kit on stages across the world). He's also a huge sports fan who faces this mix of personal, family and Jersey loyalties every time he sits down to watch a game. Listen up, this is a fun one. You can also check out Benny's podcasts Going Off Track and The Tune-Up.

Jonah Bayer of United Nations and Going Off Track podcast took some time to help me cope with the pains of rush hour traffic. We discuss some stuff that makes me sound pretty horrible. Starting to be a theme, I guess. Maybe I'm a shittier person than I think I am. Or maybe trying to be a good person makes you a shittier person. I'm the worst. Jonah is a close second. Like seriously, I couldn't be inconvenienced for 3 seconds to say "Preferred Gender Preference?" What a jerk. I see the error of my ways now.
Welcome to Episode 52 of the Washed Up Emo Podcast, this podcast is part of the Jabberjaw Media Podcast network. You can find out about all the shows on JabberjawMedia.com. The line's around the corner at the Euclid Tavern when writer/musician/podcaster Jonah Bayer "sets up on the Campbell's Chunky sidestage" and gives us some skullcrushingly bad gigs, including actual bleeding skulls, innerband turmoil, open flames, the some of the depressing realities of playing on the Warped Tour with his old band The Lovekill. We also delve deep into the curmugeonly old punk dude talk, which inevitably leads to One-Life Crew coming up. A lot. This is for you Cleveland, on this episode of WORST GIG EVER!
