This week, after the news, we’ll cover the old drive-in classic, “The Abominable Dr. Phibes” followed by our discussion of the short film, “The Storm”, and our modern-horror feature film, “Hellraiser: Judgment.” Grab some snacks, turn up the volume, and lean back and relax. Here we go...   News Features: The classic 1960s Hammer Film thriller The Witches makes its Blu-ray debut March 19th, 2019 from Scream Factory. The release includes a new audio commentary with filmmaker and historian Ted Newsom, as well as the featurette on the women of Hammer Film and theatrical trailers. Fans can pre-order their copies now by visiting https://www.shoutfactory.com/product/the-witches?product_id=7008Haunted by the terrors of her experience with African witch-doctors, school teacher Gwen Mayfield (Joan Fontaine, Rebecca) accepts an appointment as headmistress at the Haddaby School run by Alan Bax (Alec McCowen, Frenzy) and his sister Stephanie (Kay Walsh, Stage Fright). Gwen initially revels in the peacefulness she has found in the quiet English countryside but soon begins to sense “undercurrents.” Before long, a local boy falls into a coma and Gwen discovers a voodoo doll impaled by pins. The danger that follows brings her face to face with witchcraft as a series of disasters unfold and lead her to the horrible truth. Eli Roth’s History of Horror Documentary series is coming to Shudder in February 2019 (if you missed in on AMC in it’s initial run in October) An in-depth look at the history and influence of horror with each of the seven episodes focusing on a different topic like vampires or zombies. Slashers gets a two parter. https://www.imdb.com/news/ni62350472?ref_=nm_nwr2 Guillermo del Toro leads drive to save horror bookshop Dark Delicacies - Pan’s Labyrinth director joins Neil Gaiman, Cory Doctorow and other readers in crowdfunding rescue of ‘amazing quarter-century institution’ Dark Delicacies in Burbank, California, has been running since 1994, but co-owner Del Howison said the business had been put under enormous financial strain over the last few years, thanks to “skyrocket[ing]” rents. The director called on fans to help via a gofundme and the call was answered, raising $24,000 in four days https://www.theguardian.com/books/2019/jan/23/guillermo-del-toro-leads-drive-to-save-horror-bookshop-dark-delicacies The 2019 Oscar nominations have been announced and as usual there are very few horror film nominations. The only one appears to be A Quiet Place being a Best Sound Editing nominee. In response, Bloody Disgusting has made their own all-horror Oscar nominations and they are pretty awesome with Hereditary, Mandy, Annihilation, A Quiet Place, The Endless, Revenge, Halloween, and Upgrade all vying for best picture - as well as a full complement of movies filling out all the other categories. https://bloody-disgusting.com/movie/3542825/oscar-nominations-2019-bloody-disgustings-horror-edition/ For Lovecraft fans, we have a treat coming. Popsugar reports that a film adaptation of the H. P. Lovecraft horror story The Colour Out of Space begins production in February and is aimed to be completed by the end of 2019. "The Colour Out of Space" is a short story written by Lovecraft in 1927. The story follows a family who moves to Massachusetts. Shortly thereafter, a meteorite of sorts crashes on their land, but it's not any ordinary rock. It begins to "infect" the town; the food that grows is inedible, animals and livestock unravel, and locals either go insane or die. We watch as the family, from the patriarch to the children, slowly crumbles to dust. The film will star the one and only Nicolas Cage and will costar Joely Richardson, Tommy Chong, Elliot Knight, Julian Hilliard, and Q'Orianka Kilcher. The cast will team up with the producers from Cage's last major romp, Mandy, and Richard Stanley will take the helm as director. https://www.popsugar.com/entertainment/What-Horror-Movie-Color-Out-Space-About-45705765 Drive-In Special: “Dr. Phibes Rises Again!
