In this episode, Dom and Danielle explore Kenotic Christology/Theology. The belief that Christ “emptied” himself of His divinity, superimposing his human nature, is argued in one aspect to be a true doctrine while on the other hand, the doctrine that Christ is 100% Divine and 100% human is challenged. Although based on one word in Philippians 2:7 taken out of context from the whole pericope, Kenoticism has become prevalent in many churches in the west. In this conversation, Dom walks through Philippians 2:5-11 as a whole and explores other references of that one word taken far too literally. The conversation continues with how it is affecting biblical belief and what needs to be done. To help us joyously celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ we are spending three sermons considering the incarnation. Last week, Pastor Luke spoke about the humanity of Christ. In this sermon we will look at what Colossians 1:15-22 teaches us about Jesus' divinity and why it is essential to our salvation.

Father Mike teaches us more about the divine and human natures of the second person of the Holy Trinity, the Word that became flesh, Jesus Christ. Jesus became like us in all things but sin; as such, he has a human soul, intellect, will, and body without losing any of his divinity. Fr. Mike tells us that in his human nature, Jesus thought with a human mind, worked with human hands, and loved with a human heart. Christ needed to learn things, and he increased in wisdom and understanding. The full humanity and true divinity of Jesus is a great mystery of our faith.
