Most people who grew up in church have never actually met the real Jesus — not the real one. They've met Therapist Jesus. Political Jesus. Mascot Jesus. In this episode, we set those substitutes aside and go back to the Gospels to meet the real Jesus — the one who emptied rooms with his words, claimed to be God to his own people's faces, and ate dinner with everyone the religious establishment had written off. This is the final episode in our 3-part series:Pride Month → Hell & Judgment → The Real Jesus. In this video:

How can you know that you have eternal life? In the final message of our Abide series, we look at 1 John 5:6–21 and John's closing words about Jesus Christ, the Son of God. John writes to believers who may struggle with doubt, guilt, fear, and uncertainty, and he reminds them that eternal life is found in Jesus. This message explores why Jesus' humanity matters, why His death on the cross was necessary, and how believers can have confidence before God. John reminds us that whoever has the Son has life, and that those who belong to Jesus are heard by God, protected by Christ, and helped by the Holy Spirit in the fight against sin. In this sermon, we explore what it means to know that we have eternal life, how to pray with confidence, how to intercede for brothers and sisters caught in sin, and why John ends his letter by warning us to keep ourselves from idols.

You can tell a lot about a person by listening to them pray. You find out what they believe about God, what they believe about people, and what's actually important to them. In this text, we see exactly what is on the mind of Jesus as He prepares to head to the cross. Key Moments from the Message: The Posture of Prayer: We tell our kids to bow their heads and close their eyes (mostly so they stop smacking each other!), but the Jewish custom was to look up. Jesus looks toward heaven, looking His Father in the face, because that's who He's talking to. Is Jesus God? Jesus asks the Father to glorify Him. Now, that's a bold move because God doesn't share His glory with anyone. If Jesus isn't God, this is the grossest act of idolatry in history. But because He is the second member of the Trinity—existing from eternity past—He is simply reclaiming the glory He's always had. The "Math" of God: You don't have to understand calculus to know that 2+2=4. In the same way, we can't fit all of an infinite God into the space between our two ears, but we can know Him truly through His Son. What is Eternal Life? We often think of heaven as a destination with gold streets and no more hip pain. And that's not wrong; it's just not "all the way right." The best part of heaven is that Jesus is there. The Vacation Principle: Eternal life starts the moment you trust Christ. It's like a vacation—it starts the moment you leave the house and hit the road, but you don't fully experience the destination until you get there. We are on the journey now, and the joy starts today. "He has authority over all." Whether we recognize it or not, Jesus is the King of kings. We can willingly and joyfully submit to that authority now, or we can rebel—but His authority doesn't change based on our opinion. He is the just and righteous judge who will one day make all things new. "This is eternal life, that they may know you, the only true God, and the one you have sent, Jesus Christ." — John 17:3 Think about it too long, your head will explode. Don't think about it enough, you'll spend eternity separated from Him. Let's look at the Word together. If this message encouraged you, feel free to share it. We're glad you're here as we study the Gospel of John. #GospelOfJohn #HighPriestlyPrayer #TheGloryOfGod #BibleStudy #JesusIsGod

Is Jesus God?In this powerful episode of Wired for Impact, host Peter King tackles one of the most important — and most debated — questions in human history. Growing up in a faith that viewed Jesus as a great teacher and example but not God, Peter shares how a supernatural encounter radically changed everything he believed.Using clear, straightforward evidence directly from Scripture, he walks through:• Old Testament prophecies that foretold the coming of the Messiah — including His virgin birth, His name “Mighty God,” walking on water, riding on a donkey, and being pierced — written hundreds of years before Jesus was born.• Jesus' own bold declarations: “Anyone who has seen Me has seen the Father,” “Before Abraham was, I AM,” “I and My Father are one.”• What the apostles openly declared about Him — and what His fiercest opponents said when they accused Him of blasphemy specifically for claiming to be God.Peter also addresses the most common objections (the “Son of God” language, Jesus praying to the Father, etc.) with a powerful dimensional metaphor that will stretch how you think about the divine intersecting with humanity.Whether you're a believer, skeptic, or somewhere in between, this episode invites you to wrestle with the question: If Jesus really is God… would it matter to you?Peter's personal testimony of the exact moment the truth hit him like lightning — complete with his dog going crazy — is something you won't forget. If you've ever wondered who Jesus truly is, this may be the most important video you watch this year.

Did Jesus really claim to be God? An answer from history for skeptics | with Mikel Del Rosario

Gospel Spice

Play Episode Listen Later Mar 24, 2026 39:29

Stephanie Rousselle hosts Dr. Mikel Del Rosario, professor at moody Bible Institute in Chicago, and expert in Christian apologetics. The conversation centers on how we can answer the question of whether Jesus clearly claimed to be God, especially when it is asked by skeptics or by Christians seeking a deeper, confident faith.Correctly understanding Jesus as fully God and fully man is foundational to Christian faith—if he's not divine, he can't forgive sins or save. The resurrection, backed by historical evidence, cements the truth of his claims. One common question is, “Why didn't Jesus plainly say, ‘I am God'?” Mikel Del Rosario explains that Jesus' audience was steeped in Jewish theology, where claiming to be God could easily be misunderstood as claiming to be God the Father or as a rival deity. Instead, Jesus reveals his identity incrementally—and profoundly—using language and concepts (like “Son of Man” and allusions to Daniel 7 and Psalm 110) his contemporaries would eventually understand.A major stumbling block for many is the problem of evil—if God exists, why is there suffering? Mikel Del Rosario encourages compassionate, courageous responses, recognizing that both emotional and intellectual issues are at play. Importantly, he frames Christian hope as a guarantee rooted in the reality of Jesus' resurrection—something unique to Christianity. Some people genuinely don't understand how God could allow evil, while others flatly reject God's existence because of evil. Mikel Del Rosario explains the importance of discerning which type of questioner you are engaging. For seekers, gently showing how Christianity makes sense of evil is key; for rejectors, it's valuable to ask how they reached their conclusions and what evidence supports their claim.Anyone making a truth claim—atheist or Christian—shares the burden of proof. For example, if someone claims “Jesus never said he was God,” it's appropriate (and helpful!) to clarify what they mean and what specific evidence or misunderstandings might be at play.In Mark 2, Jesus forgives a paralyzed man's sins. This act isn't just compassion—it's a claim to divine authority. No Jewish priest, prophet, or miracle worker ever forgave sins as Jesus did. The religious leaders recognize this as a claim only God can rightly make.In Mark 14, before the high priest, Jesus refers to himself as the “Son of Man” seated at the right hand of God and coming on the clouds—directly combining messianic and divine imagery from Jewish scriptures. This is why the blasphemy charge is leveled, leading to his crucifixion.Whether engaging skeptics, seekers, or fellow believers, Mikel Del Rosario urges us to listen first—distinguishing between theological, historical, or literary misunderstandings. Rather than just insisting, “The Bible says so,” we should explain how Jesus' words and deeds in context are unique and credible claims to divinity.Honest questioning, careful listening, and deep understanding of historical and cultural context equip us to both strengthen our faith and share it wisely with others. Jesus' claims are profound and unique—and the hope he offers is certain, not wishful thinking. Jesus is fully God and fully man. He died for our sins, and rose again. This is the central truth of our faith, and it is solidly established through historical research.MORE ABOUT DR. Maybe you've heard people say, "Jesus never said he was God," or you've been asked, "Why believe Jesus is divine if he never claimed it?" These challenges aren't just from non-Christians―they show up in church, too. Even if you're not coming from a place of skepticism, you might still question how well church teachings about Jesus match up with what he actually said. So, did the historical Jesus really claim to be divine? This book is here to give you confidence in the historicity of Jesus' claim to divinity. It's designed to help you explain your faith in a world that increasingly doubts the Bible's portrayal of Jesus. Instead of focusing on what Jesus' followers believed, this book takes a different approach―it looks at what Jesus' enemies thought. How did they interpret his words and actions? Their perspective can help you understand the historical validity of Jesus' divine claim. In this book, biblical scholar Mikel Del Rosariouses historiography to examine claims about Jesus' divinity, analyzes ancient Greco-Roman, Jewish, and biblical sources to understand how Jesus' words and actions were interpreted by his adversaries and followers, andargues that Jesus claimed divine authority, a claim supported by strong historical evidence. If you're a Christian, this book will equip you to defend your faith against theories that suggest Jesus only claimed human authority, not divine. If you're someone who sees Christianity differently, this book offers a serious investigation into the claims of the historical Jesus, providing evidence that any theory of his identity must address. Whether you're searching for answers to your own questions or trying to share about Jesus with others, this book will help you communicate Jesus' divine claim with clarity and confidence. We invite you to check out the first episode of each of our series, and decide which one you will want to start with.Go to gospelspice.com for more, and go especially to gospelspice.com/podcast to enjoy our guests! BIBLE IN TEN

BIBLE IN TEN

Tuesday, 24 March 2026   “Take heed that you do not despise one of these little ones, for I say to you that in heaven their angels always see the face of My Father who is in heaven. Matthew 18:10   “You see – not you should disesteem ‘one, the least of these'. For I say to you that their ‘messengers in heavens', through all, they see the appearance of My Father, the ‘in heavens'.” (CG)   In the previous verse, Jesus spoke about what to do if your eye ensnares you. It should be plucked out and cast from you, noting that it is better to enter into life one-eyed than to be cast into the fire of Gehenna. He now starts a new thought, saying, “You see – not you should disesteem ‘one, the least of these'.”   The context needs to be remembered. Jesus called for a little child, setting him in the midst of the disciples. He then noted that unless they were to become like little children, they would by no means enter the kingdom of the heavens.   He then noted that receiving one little child like that in His name receives Him. As such, the context refers to those who have childlike faith, not literally all little children. Those who trust God, not in themselves or their own supposed great deeds, are those who possess that childlike faith.   This then clears up any erroneous thoughts about Jesus' next words, “For I say to you that their ‘messengers in heavens', through all, they see the appearance of My Father, the ‘in heavens'.”   Understanding the context, Jesus is not saying that every little child has a “messenger in heaven.” It is great for sermon material and for promoting liberal agendas (well, except abortion), but it does not square with the context of what Jesus is saying.   Those who have messengers in the heavens are those who are redeemed by God because of their childlike faith. This notion will be fully supported by the completion of this train of thought in the next four verses.   Life application: Care needs to be taken in understanding what is happening in the world as God works through His plan of redemption. People are not saved at birth and then up until a certain age, at which time they become unsaved.   Nor do they have an angel looking over them until some point in time when the angel stops tending to them. All people are born in sin, separated from God because of that sin. Jesus came to restore the relationship between fallen man and His Father.   Until one yields himself to God through Christ, the enmity remains. For those before the cross, this applied to those who trusted in the coming Messiah. Now that Christ has come, no person is saved until he or she receives what Jesus did. This is all-inclusive.   Salvation is not determined by age, cultural background, family, wealth, or any other such thing. Salvation comes by faith in Christ. In 1 Corinthians 7:14, we find that God has graciously sanctified the children of believers. However, there is a point known to Him when those children must choose Jesus.   We need to be responsible in our discussions of what God is doing in the world. People need Jesus, all people. We cannot let this issue fall by the wayside. For example, calling the Jews “God's people” does a catastrophic disservice to them (See Romans 9-11).   A few simple questions to be considered: Is Jesus God? Yes. Did Israel reject Jesus? Yes. If they have rejected Jesus, who is God, then they have rejected God. Supporting Israel is not the same as coddling them. They need to be told of the danger they are in.   Likewise, it is not appropriate to incorrectly explain verses like Matthew 18:10 and claim that all babies have an angel looking out for them. That will inevitably provide false assurances to those who need to tell children about Jesus.   Be prepared to defend the truth of the gospel. All people need Jesus. Without Him, none can be saved. Israel, the nation, has rejected Jesus. Until they collectively acknowledge Jesus, they are not saved, nor are they God's people in regard to salvation and a right relationship with Him.   Infant baptism is unscriptural and provides false security to those who adhere to this rite. The list could go on and on concerning this most important of issues. Jesus! From the youngest person to the oldest, all need Jesus. The nation of Israel needs Jesus. Get the word out! The world needs Jesus.   Lord God, thank You for Jesus. Without Him, there would be no hope. But with Him in our lives, we have hope and assurance. Praises to You, O God, for what You have done. Amen.

Who is Jesus, really? Was He just a teacher, a prophet, or a moral example — or is He truly God? In Episode 1 of Meeting Jesus: God With Us, we begin this Bible-based series by answering one of the most important questions in the Christian faith: Is Jesus God? This episode explores what Scripture clearly teaches about the identity of Jesus Christ — His eternal existence, His divine claims, and why Christianity stands or falls on the truth of His deity. Using key passages such as John 1:1–14, John 8:58, Colossians 2:9, and John 20:28, we examine how the Bible reveals Jesus as fully God and fully man. We also introduce the doctrine of the Trinity — one God in three Persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit — and explain why understanding this truth is essential for salvation, worship, and discipleship. In this episode, you will learn: What the Bible says about Jesus' eternal nature How Jesus claimed divinity Why Jesus must be God to save What the Trinity is (and what it is not) Why Jesus' identity changes everything If you want a deeper understanding of who Jesus truly is according to Scripture, this episode will lay a strong biblical foundation for your faith.

The choice is ours – for salvation, but also throughout our lives. We get to choose to follow Jesus every single day.Through Luke, we are issued a challenge: Seek Jesus, not just as a distant historical figure, but as the One who knows us fully and loves us perfectly. The journey is ongoing—keep pursuing deeper relationship, letting Him fill what only He can.Reflection:Who is Jesus to you? Lunatic, liar, or Lord? The answer shapes your identity, faith, and future. This episode is part 17 in a series going through the story of the Book of Mormon. This episode covers Mosiah 15:1-9 and its clear teaching of modalism. These verses sound like something a Oneness Pentecostal might say. This episode explains the Trinity and how Oneness Pentecostalism differs with clips from Dr. David K. Bernard of the UPCI.Then, we compare what Oneness theology says with what Mosiah 15:1-9 claims about Jesus. Also, the Joseph Smith Translation changes Luke 10:22 to make Jesus say that the Father and the Son are the same person. (Note: I mistakenly said Matthew 11:27 in the audio, which is the parallel gospel account.)It seems undeniable that Joseph Smith was dabbling in modalism while writing the Book of Mormon.Sources Cited:"How Is Jesus Both God and Man? | Episode 36," David K. In previous episodes, we saw that no one in the Bible - notJesus, not Moses, not Isaiah or any other prophet, not Peter, not Paul or any other apostle – no one proclaimed or described that God is three in one.  Rather, we saw specifically that God is the Father alone, the God of our Lord Jesus Christ. We looked at Paul's description of God and the Lord Jesus Christ in Ephesians 1.To Paul, God is not the Trinity, but the Father alone. And, Paul says the LordJesus Christ has a God. The Lord Jesus Christ's God is the Father. The LordJesus Christ is not God since he has a God and Jesus is someone other than God.Previous episodes:If the Bible is Right, God is NOT a Trinity (Part 1) https://youtu.be/S1-qBYVrkdUIf the Bible is Right, God is NOT a Trinity (Part 2) https://youtu.be/2x81JF9sKqc It is simple reading comprehension. When reading the Bible, nowhere is God a Triune being. I want to make one more simple reading example in the Bible where, in this case, we will see if the Apostle Peter believed that God was a Trinity, or that the Lord Jesus Christ was God.  Through simple reading comprehension, we will be able understand that the Apostle Peter's God was not the Trinity, and the Lord Jesus Christ was not Peter's God. Peter DID NOT declare that “God is a Trinity”. Peter DID NOT declare that one must believe that God is a Trinity. Peter DID declare that someone else other than the Lord Jesus Christ is God, that is, that the Lord Jesus Christ is not God. Peter DID declare that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the Living God. We look at a couple of corroborating statements from Peter in the Gospels and one of his epistles, but focus on Peter's Pentecost sermon in Acts Chapter 2.   Acts 2:2224"Men of Israel, listen to these words: Jesus of Nazareth, a man attested to you by God with powerful deeds, wonders, and miraculous signs that God performed among you throughhim, just as you yourselves know– 23this man, who was handed over by the predetermined plan and foreknowledge ofGod, you executed by nailing him to a cross at the hands of Gentiles. 24 But God raised him up… In this text, is God triune?  Is Jesus God?  Acts 2:30-33“So then, because he was a prophet and knew that God had sworn to him with an oath to seat one of his descendants on his throne, 31 David by foreseeing this spoke about the resurrection of the Christ, that he was neither abandonedto Hades, nor did his body experience decay. 32 This Jesus God raised up, and we are all witnesses of it. 33 So then, exalted to the right hand of God, and having received the promise of the holy spirit from the Father, he has poured out what you both see and hear.” Acts 2:36Therefore let all the house of Israel know beyond a doubt that God has made this Jesus whom you crucified both Lord and Christ."  Mark 8:29, He asked them, "But who do you say that I am?" Peter answered him, "You are the Christ." Luke 9:20, Then he said to them, "But who do you say that I am?" Peter answered, "The Christ of God." Matt. 16:16, Simon Peter answered, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God." (Mat 16:16 NET) 1 Peter 1:3, Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! By his great mercy he gave us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,  1 Peter 20-21He (Christ) was foreknown before the foundation of the world but was manifested in these last times for your sake. 21 Through him you now trust in God, who raised him from the dead and gave him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God. Peter never describes God as being triune, and never declares that Jesus is God.   If the Bible is right, God is not a Trinity. If Peter is right, God is not a Trinity. If your God is the Trinity, you have a different God than Peter.

Greetings, and welcome to Tomorrow's World, where we help you to make sense of your world through the pages of the Bible. We're glad you're here, and today's question is one of the most important questions you could ever ask: Is Jesus God? This question about Jesus is important. Estimates indicate around 2.4 billion people in the world claim Christianity as their religion—almost half-a-billion more than claim Islam and more than a billion more than claim Hinduism. Yet, even as almost one-third of the planet claims a religion centered on the person of Jesus Christ, many of those same people disagree on exactly who He really was. For some, even some claiming to be Christian, Jesus was simply a man—a Jewish teacher in the first century, who just happened to have an outsized impact on world culture. The late Shelby Spong, a bishop in the Episcopal Church, was quite famous for his stance that Jesus was not actually God, was not born from a virgin, and was never resurrected. Other religions claiming to be Christian teach different things about Jesus' divinity. Some teach that Jesus was a created being, like the angels. Some identify Him with the archangel Michael. Others claim that Jesus and the Devil were brothers in the past. And others, further, claim that Jesus and the Father are the very same person, and not two separate divine persons, at all. Outside of nominal Christianity, ideas vary, as well. Some religions consider Jesus to have been a holy man, or wise guru, or even a prophet, but not truly divine in the way God is divine. Others consider Him a manifestation of God, like an avatar, or some sort of ascended master in the manner of new age teachings. And then, there are those who don't think He ever existed—as if He were a figment of the imagination, or a fiction created in the first century to form the basis of a new religion. Perhaps we should tackle this question first, in the event some of you have been infected by this pernicious lie. There is abundant evidence that Jesus of Nazareth did, indeed, exist. Even if we treat the New Testament not as Scripture, but as a mere human product of history, just like Homer's Iliad or Caesar's commentaries, it provides abundant evidence that Jesus was a real person, going back to within two or three decades of His life. We even have a fragment from the gospel of John, the famous Rylands Library Papyrus P52, that dates back to within a handful of years after the Apostle John is believed to have written it. And, outside of the New Testament, a number of secular historical records refer to Jesus and the impact of His teachings and example in the first century. The contemporary Jewish historian Josephus, the Roman historian Tacitus, and Pliny the Younger all speak of Jesus Christ as a real person—much too early in the historical record for some imaginary account to have taken hold so profoundly. In fact, one of the most effective defenders of the very real existence of Jesus Christ is New Testament scholar Bart Ehrman. While Ehrman has publicly declared that he does not believe Jesus was divine, does not believe in the supernatural, and does not consider himself a Christian, he is just as clear that the evidence for Jesus' existence is overwhelming. Referring to those who claim Jesus' existence is just a myth, Ehrman writes, “It is fair to say that mythicists as a group, and as individuals, are not taken seriously by the vast majority of scholars in the field of New Testament, early Christianity, ancient history, and theology” (Did Jesus Exist? The Historical Argument for Jesus of Nazareth, 2012. p. 20). In fact, almost all scholars, secular and religious alike, tend to agree. As Ehrman summarizes, “Despite the enormous range of opinion, there are several points on which virtually all scholars of antiquity agree. Jesus was a Jewish man, known to be a preacher and teacher, who was crucified (a Roman form of execution) in Jerusalem during the reign of the Roman emperor Tiberius, when Pontius Pilate was the governor of Judea” (p. 12). In short, those who say that Jesus never existed should be taken as seriously as those who say the tooth fairy or Santa Claus do exist. Facts are facts. And the man Jesus of Nazareth did live and walk this earth around two thousand years ago in Judea, teaching around the Sea of Galilee and in Jerusalem. But is that where the story ends? A great teacher dies in His early thirties and just happens to have a religion founded in His name? Or was Jesus more than a man?

Hooooo boy. This week, we're asking one of the biggest questions in Christianity. Is Jesus God? Specifically, we'll be looking at two questions. First, we examine the gospel most frequently cited to support the idea: the gospel of John. Literally, the first verse of John says "The Word was with God, and the Word was God", doesn't that kind of end the debate? Well, if you know this show, you KNOW it's going to be more complicated than that! We'll go verse by verse discussing why what you've always been told may not be the full story. It may not be the story at all! And since we're courting controversy already, why not go whole-hog? In our second segment, we're going after the Trinity. Where did the concept of a triune God come from? Is it in the Bible? If not, is it at least the best solution to the problem it was trying to solve? How did the idea become canon? Are we finally going to talk about something that actually happened at the Council of Nicaea?
