Welcome to Nooks and Crannies! Episode 6: The Kinship of Neuro Anti-Inflammation This week the Evan and Matt kick things off by talking about a Spit Take Matty made a few months back after winning a trip for two to Vegas. The intro was recorded before he left, now he is back and Matty feels like he has been poisoned, so … good trip! J Matty (aka: Edward James Almos) informs Evan (aka; 1987 era Lou Diamond Phillips) that he has class which can only mean that it is the inception of ANTHRO 101 (6:41)!! Just one segment, to get your feet wet, we cover: “what the heck is anthropology?” (8:20) and “how in goodness gracious’ name does one do it??” (11:30) and a little bit on the wider philosophical debates (18:10). After this tantalizing anthropological discussion, we hear the second and last half of the interview that Matt did with Amy Longard, an Ottawa-based whole-food specializing nutritionist; all about concussion nutrition (22:00), anti-inflammation strategies that are not just a fad (25:30) and some of her views how to incorporate nutrition into our own overall wellness strategies (37:45). I wanted to end the chat with some specifics about Women’s health and nutrition, which like all topics of our conversation dovetailed into an interesting side talk on the Care-Taker role and women’s socially ascribed gender roles (40:35). As is always the case with Issa and I, we talked about everything under the sun and even some stuff in the shadows, from empathy to narrative exchange, or how about the fact that Issa is a closeted Anthropologist who actively engages in the ongoing embodied exchange of culturally endued narrative that, semiotically speaking, of course, have polymorphic dialectical meaning(s)…Just your average Issa-Matt chin-wag (26:14). This week we hear the remainder of Pau_uuls Podcast; Westerns, be sure to take a look at the show notes to see the links that Capt. Concussion forgot to include in the last episode. Paul and Matt kick things off talking about The Wild Bunch (2:10) and its famous Bridge Scene, then advance theories as to why the Western died in the 80’s (4:35) including the Star Wars Factor (7:45) and the hottest of Hot Takes by Pauley (15:37). Mamoo decided that now was the time to deep dive on Lonesome Dove (17:03). Paul fills us in on the Waterworld of Westerns (22:09) and wrap up this section with some talk on Unforgiven (23:15). Amy Longard is an Ottawa based nutritionist that Matt met at a chronic pain gathering in Strathcona Park in the summer (24:28). Amy described how her own healthy lifestyle in some ways was the cause of her chronic illnesses and how this eventually led to chef’s training and a new career in nutritional care (30:10). Mattie proposes a theory (35:03) about the immediacy of nutritional efficacy and Amy bridges off this describe her own approach in helping others (39:55).
