Reading Rainbow. Reading is FUNdamental! Hooked on Phonics. We grew up steeped in a culture that encouraged reading. And in the past couple of years many U.S. states have embraced legislation about how kids are taught to read in school. The phrase that you may have heard is “science of reading,” as in “let's make sure schools are using reading curricula based on science.” But what does that actually mean? And how would you, as a parent, know if your school was doing it?Today on ParentData, we're joined by journalist Emily Hanford, the host of the excellent podcast, Sold a Story. The topic of its first season was how reading is taught in American schools, and, for a lot of parents, it opened their eyes to the fact that there isn't just one way to teach reading and that many schools weren't doing it right. We talk about what the science says about the right approaches to reading, and then, more practically, about how parents can evaluate their own kids' learning and whether the legislation we're seeing is doing any good.Subscribe to ParentData.org for free access to new articles every week on data-driven pregnancy and parenting.
The kids can't read and it's making Volodymyr Zelensky rich. Although the US is the lone super power in the world, it apparently can't dedicate enough resources to get its population to read proficiently. With 21% of the voting population functionally illiterate, is it any wonder they keep voting for the same politicians and policies that continually send their tax dollars to the bank accounts of the leaders of foreign countries and to war pigs getting fat at the public trough? Maybe all the war spending is why illiteracy is so high, or maybe it's just that government indoctrination camps aren't very good at teaching the basics, maybe both, either way the result is a nice little feedback loop that keeps the irresponsible, illegitimate leaders in the US in power, just like their puppet, Zelensky. Harrison Butker used his speech to graduates from the Catholic University, Benedictine College, to remind them that tradition is important and staying in one's own lane is the best way to lead effectively and with grace. Although femnazis and the rest of the chronically offended, emotional hypochondriacs generally have nothing but dismissive, mocking derision to say about Catholics and Catholicism, they took great offense to the timeless truth (that everyone on earth believed until about 5 minutes ago) that one of the most individually rewarding/fulfilling things a human being can do is have children and raise them. As biology has determined (shhh don't tell the rainbow mafia), the unique gift of child bearing and nurturing has fallen to mothers, but pointing this out is apparently whatever form of "phobic" the progressive borg has recently decided is the gravest sin. Then, right on cue, MTG, AOC, and other Democrats put their best (worst) foot forward to make Butker's point that "staying in your lane" can avoid a lot of headache and embarrassment. The cat fight that ensued between them is just the latest reminder that the people "leading" us are not serious people and are deserving of the utmost disrespect. **SUPPORT THE PODCAST HERE** Become a Member: https://wmdpodcast.com/support-our-work/ BUY MERCH (shirts, hats, hoodies, mugs, even welcome mats!): https://ee48ce-3.myshopify.com/ BITCOIN WALLET ADDRESS: bc1qsx4qh6wqkmwac25rydfn8nhg4nrwrcx93fmjz4 FOLLOW OUR CLIPS CHANNEL: @wmdpodcastclips FINDING DAVID (book): The story told by the grandmother of Dane and David about how her husband, their grandfather was left behind by our government as a POW: https://amzn.to/4coWAQn More on Dane & David's grandfather: https://www.powhrdlicka.com CHECK OUT WMD ELSEWHERE: X: https://twitter.com/WMDpod Facebook: https://www.facebook.cm/groups/566957281384509 Odysee: https://odysee.com/@WeaponsOfMemeDestruction:7 Rumble: https://rumble.com/user/WMDPodcast

Chris and Sam talk about this ridiculous system of letters and sounds and how that allegedly leads to reading. Shout out to LeVar Burton who made us love books.
The power of your testimony can have a huge effect on someone else's life bringing healing to their soul, giving them inspiration and information, or building their confidence and faith. I'm going to share two short stories about me that I believe will help you somehow. When I was 18 months old, I fell out of a window at my grandma's house approximately two stories high hitting my head on concrete. My older brother that's a year and two months and three days apart noticed “a bleeding doll outside on the concrete” which were the words he told my grandmother. My grandmother seen that it was me and immediately called 911 so I could get rushed to the hospital. When my dad first saw me from that horrific fall he said, “The knot on my head was as big as a dinosaur egg.” From the magnitude of the drop, I should've died instantly. I was unconscious for many weeks and best-case scenario I would live as a vegetable meaning I'm totally brain dead. Physically I would grow normally and as far as my brain my mental development was completely ruined. My dad being a man of faith prayed and said, “God you gave me this child and he's here for a reason, let your will be done.” God did a miracle in my life and my brain is functioning just fine. In elementary school I definitely had a problem with English literature. It was very hard for some reason and it was my least favorite subject. I think I was slow; I would get picked on and laughed at about reading, writing, and speaking. I struggled through middle school, high school, all the way to my early twenties. Through hard work and dedication, you would never know I used to be on hooked-on-phonics, stuttering, and couldn't comprehend, now reading and writing are my best friend's. We are back and we missed you! Our international flair is increasing with new listeners from Switzerland, Australia, and Canada (thanks Pat). This episode we talk about Mark's mom's crazy July 4th story, Seany's bday, COVID updates, and Mark's back to school insanity. We also have a little fun with phonetics and it is not something you want to miss because we are both such idiots. So hopefully you laugh a little and love the episode and don't forget the beer of the day! As always give it a listen and we hope you enjoy from the U.S. to Australia! Cheers
You have one job. It's to keep Bill Cadogan in a room using your gun. Instead, you let him go to lunch, take your gun, and spend the afternoon hooked on phonics.
