Introduction to track provides background on this detective series starring Dick Powell as Richard Diamond. It also introduces the episode on the track. This was a very popular show because Dick Powell was a unique actor and vocalist... he actually whistles and sings in between a good detective story! Try it. I am quite sure you will enjoy the show. Michael Tanner joins us this week to review 1988's They Live. They live is a sci-fi action horror film written and directed by John Carpenter. It is based on Ray Nelson's short story, "Eight O'Clock in the Morning". It stars Roddy Piper, Keith David, and Meg Foster. The movie debuted #1 in North America in its first week but received mostly negative reviews. It was heavily criticized for its social commentary, but later enjoyed a cult following. This seems to be a pattern with early John Carpenter films. Most notably, the movie has entered pop-culture and has influenced street art. It was shot in eight weeks, principally on location in downtown LA. It had a budget of $3 million, with a box office of $13 million. "Nada, a wanderer without meaning in his life, discovers a pair of sunglasses capable of showing the world the way it truly is. As he walks the streets of Los Angeles, Nada notices that both the media and the government are comprised of subliminal messages meant to keep the population subdued. He discovers that most of the social elite are skull-faced aliens bent on world domination. With this shocking discovery, Nada fights to free humanity from the mind-controlling aliens." Michael Tanner Michael Tanner is a co-creator of "Junior Braves of the Apocalypse" along with co-host Greg Smith. They also appeared in the anthology, Monsters and Other Scary S%&t.
