Mass communication, which is what we do, is not easy. We just make it look that way (ThyGap - Subscribe, and Share). A true observation from one of our listeners about how we treated certain topics on the podcast, kicked off a 'curious' exploration into just why mass communication is not easy. The intent of the creator being one thing, while the aptitude of the viewer being a whole other thing in itself. We look at examples in pop culture that scream out, literally and figuratively, about what the 'easy' way looks like. It puts in perspective just why the 'not easy' way may be worth it, after all. #ResistTheButton. You MUST resist that follow button. You will try, but you will fail. And that's okay. It's Not Easy.
From writing, public speaking and to acting. Daphne O'Neal has done it all. From the movie Futurestates to 13 Reasons Why! A panel appearance on The Oprah Winfrey Show (1986) marked the start of her on-camera career. Her love of opera and ballet, along with her Harvard degree, suited her to the tongue-in-cheek portrayal of a "snob." By the end of the show, Daphne had won over the skeptical Chicago audience. Buoyed by the experience, she began auditioning for plays. First cast as the Postulant in The Sound of Music at Boston's Wheelock Family Theatre, Daphne went on to portray lead character Silvia in The Two Gentlemen of Verona by William Shakespeare. In 2009, Daphne was the only San Francisco actor hired for Ranch Studios' Corruption.Gov (2010), headlined by Lee Majors, Michael Madsen and Joe Estevez. She played the terrified victim of a gun-toting terrorist, a judge on film in the PBS short Futurestates, Daphne played a TV reporter in the indie ballet feature Hope Dances, Marcus Cole's mother in Season 2 of 13 Reasons Why, a narcissistic boss in the improv comedy short 8 Daves A Week and pulled off a cameo appearance in a redhot hip-hop artist music video. Daphne voices documentary, educational, animated and radio/TV projects and appears regularly in commercials, and sang Lead Alto in a chorus of 12 in Scott Joplin's opera Treemonisha at San Francisco's venerated Stern Grove Festival.. She has hosted live and taped PBS-TV fundraisers, among other programs.

CONTENT NOTE: Discussions of suicidality, sexual assault, physical assault, child abuse, and murder. Also swearing and, of course, spoilers. For a show that talks a big game about encouraging teens to seek help in times of crisis, 13 Reasons Why sure does make therapists look totally useless! Anyone familiar with Netflix's 13 Reasons Why knows that it got a lot of backlash for its graphic portrayal of sexual assault and teen suicide upon its initial release. What didn't get nearly enough discussion, in our opinion, was how absolutely TERRIBLE the school counselor, Mr. Porter, is at his job. Even though we know the point of his character was to be really bad at his job, we just had to talk about it. This conversation with Ben Lawson is a true look inside a working actor's highs and lows; how long it can take for a casting director to find that perfect project for you, his first experience on the set of a huge movie, and what it feels like to lose your confidence and then gain it back in spades. Sometimes it might take 6 months in New York City to shift your focus, to unblock the fear around auditioning and booking and trust in your own artistry. This conversation is about the journey in an actors career, not about the destination. Ben Lawson is an Australian film and television actor best known for his portrayal of Damien Rennett in ABC’s “Designated Survivor,” Netflix’s hit series “13 Reasons Why,” as Coach Rick, and “The Deep End.” He has guest starred and featured in various shows, including “Don’t Trust the B—- in Apartment 23,” “Grim,” “Billions,” “Modern Family,” iZombie,” “Love Child,” and “Secrets & Lies.” He began his 26 year career in the popular Australian soap opera “Neighbours.” Currently, Ben leads the number one show on Netflix, "Firefly Lane". Katie takes a stand in defense of 13 Reasons Why as she describes how it's not a book/show that glorifies suicide, but rather a piece that really perfectly shows what guilt and trauma can look like in schools. In Zack Snyder's Justice League, determined to ensure Superman's (Henry Cavill) ultimate sacrifice was not in vain, Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck) aligns forces with Diana Prince (Gal Gadot) with plans to recruit a team of metahumans to protect the world from an approaching threat of catastrophic proportions. The task proves more difficult than Bruce imagined, as each of the recruits must face the demons of their own pasts to transcend that which has held them back, allowing them to come together, finally forming an unprecedented league of heroes. Now united, Batman (Affleck), Wonder Woman (Gadot), Aquaman (Jason Momoa), Cyborg (Ray Fisher), and The Flash (Ezra Miller) may be too late to save the planet from Steppenwolf, DeSaad, and Darkseid and their dreadful intentions.Written by: Chris Terrio, Zack Snyder, and Will BeallDirected by: Zack Snyder The Movie Podcast is one of Canada's top film and review podcasts. The true story behind Justice League's failure is only half of the juicy narrative, though. Snyder—who left the project months before filming concluded—still fans the flames that surround the rumor of a "Snyder Cut" of the film. This allegedly is the version of the story he wanted to tell before the studio, Warner Bros., pulled him off of the project. Hence, the "Snyder Cut."Pop-culture fans love a meaty mystery, and the controversy swirling around the lost Snyder Cut of Justice League has been captivating comic-book movie fans for years. Additionally, an army of passionate DC and Snyder fans are committed to getting the "Cut" released. They already have gone to incredible lengths to fight for the movie's opening, and have found strength, support, and charitable goals in their global "family" of Snyder Cut supporters. Their stories are remarkable, and the book is just as much about the dedicated fans who make up the Snyder Cut movement as it is about the unreleased film. Their efforts finally paid off with the recent announcement that Snyder's cut will be released in 2021 by Warner Bros. and HBO Max. Good morning good afternoon good evening wherever you maybe and welcome to a very special Extra interview of Final Cut. Today I'm joined by an actor who has starred on it feels like everything tbh. So ladies and gentlemen i give to you Jeff Davis
Today, we welcome actor and musician Brandon Scott to the show. Currently recurring on hit shows such as Netflix’s “13 Reasons Why”, “Dead to Me” and NBC’s “This is Us”, Brandon continues to pop up on our television screens time and time again. Today, he walks us through his journey from waiting tables in Times Square to working opposite heavy hitter actors, Al Pacino and Christopher Walken, and how, year after year, he still finds the joy in discovering and rediscovering his own individual actor “technique.” As a member of the IAMA Theatre Company in Los Angeles, we’ll hear Scott emphasize the importance of what he calls, “Tribe Vibe Mentality” and getting involved in a creative, supportive community for the purpose of collaboration and the beautiful opportunities that unfold as a result of being of service to your fellow artists. Today, Brandon is candidly honest about his struggles with anxiety, insecurity, and even his dislike of memorizing lines! He shares how he continues to work through these feelings and how asking the question of whether this is truly what he wants to do with his life, always allows him to connect back to his “why” and his purpose for creating. Today, we’ll hear everything from the ultimatum Scott set for himself if he didn’t get into Tisch School of the Arts, to his audition story for Grey’s Anatomy with noted casting director Linda Lowy, to how he uses song in his preparation to help him find those hidden moments between the lines. Let us know at ThisTimeWith.com/talk EPISODE #70: How Movie Theatres are Reopening Safely with Sarah Van Lange, Executive Director of Communications, Community and Social at Cineplex - August 3, 2020 MAILBAGBrady says, Hey guys just want to say I enjoyed your recent episode of you guys talking about the Superman Black Suit and the Snyder Cut. I know you guys were curious as to how much Whedon reshot the film and I wanted to help clarify that. As you know Zack Snyder has not seen the theatrical cut but he has stated that you only seen about 10-20% of his footage while the rest of it is Joss Whedon. When Whedon came on board he wrote 80 pages of new script material. So that's about an 1 hour and 20 minutes of new footage that he shot in a 2 hour movie with credits that was mandated by WB. So already that shows you how different the film is. The reason Whedon didn't get credit for directing is cause the DGA rules state that a director who films 90% of principal photography gets sole credit no matter what. Zack Snyder filmed 100% of principal photography so that's why his name is in the theatrical cut. So yes this movie is going to be an entirely different from the Whedon version as well as the version he shot. That's why they are throwing so much money to basically redo it from the ground up. So things like the Russian family and the parademons smelling fear from the Batman scene are not in the Snyder Cut. Sorry for the long message but just wanted to give you that information. Thanks again guys for all you do :) ANNOUNCEMENTSCOMMENTARIES: Game Night, Sicario, and Spider-Man (2002) NOW AVAILABLE ON THE MOVIE PODCAST FEED!CATCH UP: Black Lives Matter, Zack Snyder's Justice League ‘Snyder Cut' Coming to HBO Max in 2021 and Interview with Kevin Lima, Director of A Goofy Movie, Tarzan, and Enchanted and more!CHECK OUT: The Last of Us Part II Spoilercast AVAILABLE NOW! Was gibt es neues? Teens have been given a bad rap throughout generations. But what do the teens themselves think of their portrayal in the media and the perception of their activities? Jack Pawlakos and Joven Hundal host an insightful program with reporter Kenneth Jeon to speak about their personal experiences. In general, entertainment is darker with more mental health issues profiled. According to a 2018 report from Mental Health America, the rate of youth with Major Depressive Episode (MDE) increased from 11.93% to 12.63%. More awareness is being raised about the issue, and movies and shows have seemingly begun to reflect that awareness. Statistics are indicating the today's youth bring more diversity, empathy, and inclusivity to their real lives, however, TV and movies don't always show the positive sides, but instead, use dated stereotypes. Youth are globally connected today and tomorrow they will be the leaders of the world. Let's show them respect!
Today on The Neil Haley Show, The Total Tutor Neil Haley will interview Christian Navarro of 13 REASONS WHY. Christian Navarro's star is on the rise and he is quickly becoming one of the most highly sought after actors in Hollywood. He stars as the sensitive yet Steve McQueen cool ‘Tony' on the critically acclaimed Netflix series 13 REASONS WHY. The first season of the show immediately captivated audiences and paved the way for a second season, which will premiere this spring. On the big screen, he recently wrapped the Melissa McCarthy/Fox Searchlight comedy CAN YOU EVER FORGIVE ME?. His other film work includes a role in Jonathan Milott and Cary Murnion's (XYZ Films) BUSHWICK, which screened at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival and in the Director's Fortnight section at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival. Christian's additional television credits include a memorable recurring role of Jorgé, a young and savvy record producer on Martin Scorsese's HBO series VINYL, opposite Bobby Cannavale. He has also guest starred on several major shows including Showtime's THE AFFAIR, Amazon's THE TICK and Fox's ROSEWOOD, all which he landed right out of graduating from Rutgers University. He speaks fluent Spanish and is skilled in UFC and Bellator fighting styles. He resides in New York.
In this episode, Dr. Serani, psychologist, author and depression expert and Dr. Owens, cognitive psychologist with expertise in suicide prevention, discuss the Netflix Series, “13 Reasons Why.” The series tells the fictional story of Hannah Baker, a teen who dies by suicide and leaves behind 13 tapes revealing the 13 reasons she ends her life. The show has caught the interest of teens as well as parents and professionals. Drs. Serani and Owens consider both the benefits and dangers of the series for teens. They recognize the needed attention the series brings to teen suicide; but raise concerns with dramatizations and omissions relative to suicide, depression, mental illness and treatment. They discuss how Hannah and the high school students are depicted, as well as the ways in which school personnel and parents respond in the series. Finally, they suggest ways for parents, teachers and young people to use this series as a starting point for addressing the tragedy of teen suicide.
