This was an interview recorded on June 2nd. There has been some delays in getting this episode uploaded. It is still relevant and necessary. Gun violence is a major issue facing America. Our kids are learning how to hide from active shooters in schools, kids in the inner city are walking on different sides of the street to avoid altercations, and much more. Our children are victims even if they aren't near the shooter. They wonder if their school is next, their friend is next, or their family is next. It's traumatizing and unfair. So, how do we as parents address it? How do we bring comfort? How do we help them understand their value and the value they bring to others? In this conversation, I am joined by Ray Nelson, Director of Outreach and Soul Care at The House D.C. in Washington, D.C. This is a hard conversation, but necessary. I hope you can engage and listen to what is said. This is not political. This is just a focus on how to address the issue with our children and how to be a safe space. MUSIC by iEarn FIST. Michael Tanner joins us this week to review 1988's They Live. John Carpenter wrote and directed this cult classic. They Live is based on Ray Nelson's short story, “Eight O'Clock in the Morning”. It stars Roddy Piper, Keith David, and Meg Foster. The movie debuted #1 in North America in its first week, but it received mostly negative reviews. The film was heavily criticized for its social commentary, but later enjoyed a cult following. This seems to be a pattern with early John Carpenter films. Most notably, the movie has entered pop-culture and has influenced street art. “Nada, a wanderer without meaning in his life, discovers a pair of sunglasses capable of showing the world the way it truly is. Nada notices that both the media and the government are comprised of subliminal messages meant to keep the population subdued. He discovers that most of the social elite are skull-faced aliens bent on world domination. With this shocking discovery, Nada fights to free humanity from the mind-controlling aliens.” Michael Tanner Michael Tanner is a co-creator of “Junior Braves of the Apocalypse” along with co-host Greg Smith.
