Part 2 of 2 Matt chats with Amber Dillon (PhD, Ridley College), who teaches at Eternity Bible College and Denver Seminary. In her doctoral work (supervised by New Testament scholar Michael Bird), she researched the literary portrait of John the Baptist, as depicted in the Gospel of John. In the previous episode (part 1/Ep #110), we kicked things off by discussing what goes into writing a dissertation and the necessity of being able to receive constructive criticism during the writing process. We also chatted about how women are underrepresented in evangelical academic circles and how certain historical events may have created that situation. In this episode (part 2), we talk specifically about her work on John the Baptist. How does the Gospel of John portray him in relation to the synoptic Gospels? Are their similarities and differences? Why are these questions important? And to what texts, exactly, does John refer when he describes Jesus as "the lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world?" (Jn 1:29)? +++Support the podcast via Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/TheBibleUnmutedRead Matt's blog: matthewhalsted.substack.comDon't forget to subscribe to The Bible (Unmuted)!

Evidence for UFOs is mounting, and with every new revelation, more questions arise. However, for some, these unidentified phenomena evoke deeper concerns—they believe UFOs might be demonic. How do we discern the truth amidst mystery and speculation? Today, Chrissys Newton is joined by Dr. Matthew Halsted, a professor at Eternity Bible College in California, to explore this complex intersection of faith, theology, and the unexplained. Are we on the verge of a spiritual revolution, or is there a deception at play? We'll explore religious identities, the possibility of extraterrestrial life, and its implications for traditional beliefs. We'll also unpack claims about the Vatican's involvement in UFO retrievals and explore the idea that religious assumptions by an alleged group called the Collins Elite may be influencing government discussions on Non-Human Intelligence.  Join us as we get rebelliously curious. Part of The Places Between is talking about thriving and learning to thrive while we're waiting /or transitioning from one season of life to the next! As humans we know what it's like to wait and for many of us something we really don't like at all, if we were honest. Waiting is hard. Waiting in the midst of suffering is really hard. Almost unbearable. But there is something beautiful about drawing close to God, or letting him draw near to you in the midst of what seems like a never ending journey of waiting. In the midst of a season that is filled with trials and answers that we're not sure will ever come, there is an intimacy we can experience with Jesus if we press in and let him draw near. This is Brittany's story. Its a story of longsuffering and faith in the midst of waiting on a number of things… Her insights and wisdom and authentic voice into some of life's most challenging moments will encourage your heart today. In the midst of suffering faith and HOPE is pivotal . . . I hope Brittany's words are just what you need to hear today. Brittany Park has served as a pastor at Remembrance Community Church in the South Bay Area of Los Angeles County since 2012. She is also is an adjunct professor of Biblical Studies at Eternity Bible College. John Whitaker has been devoted to teaching and preaching the Bible for more than 3 decades, and in this candid conversation he speaks about his first awkward (and too short) sermon on an Easter Sunrise as a teenager and his growing skill and confidence over the years. He believes that the main problem with most preaching today is that sermons don't contain a purpose or a point. He gives practical advice on how to add pauses and how to draw illustrations from the teaching text itself.Colossians 1:28 We proclaim Him, admonishing every person and teaching every person with all wisdom, so that we may present every person complete in Christ.John is passionate about connecting people with the life-changing message of the Bible. He loves to bring the Bible to life and connect it to your life, so that it helps you live the life God created you for.John enjoys his life too...When he's not preaching or teaching, you might find him at a local coffee shop meeting with and encouraging other local ministers. Or you could find him hanging out at home with his wife and partner in ministry, Louise, his closest friend for 30 years. Or perhaps you'll find him throwing the ball for his dogs. He loves Mexican food, a quiet day in the woods, his family, but most of all John loves to help people see how God's word speaks to their life and his greatest thrill in life is to see people come alive to the joy of walking with God honestly, humbly, and transformationally.Want all the technical details about John?John is a preacher, teacher and pastor. In this episode, Kenny interviews author, speaker, and college professor Dr. Preston Sprinkle about homosexuality, but more specifically about how Christians ought to engage with people who identify as gay. Dr. Sprinkle makes it clear: Homosexuality is not about an "issue" to be dealt with, but it is much more about people than need to be loved. Dr. Sprinkle gained national attention several years ago when he co-wrote the best selling book Erasing Hell with Francis Chan, which was a response to Rob Bell's Love Wins. Dr. Sprinkle has earned undergraduate and graduate degrees from The Master's Seminary as well as a Ph.D. in New Testament from Aberdeen University in the Scotland. He currently serves as the Vice President for Eternity Bible College's Extension Campus in Boise, ID. He previously taught at Cedarville University (Ohio) and at Nottingham University (U.K.). Dr. Preston Sprinkle joins us to discuss the bible and homosexuality. He is an accomplished scholar, author, and Vice President of Eternity Bible College. We discuss some common questions that arise from this topic including: Why should we talk about homosexuality if Jesus didn't? Was Paul only referring to male prostitution? Is the bible really clear on this subject? How do we interpret the Old Testament laws, in light of New Testament liberties? Why is homosexuality still viewed by many as sinful but eating pork and seafood is not?
