The Coffee Run #537 - Don't adjust what you have to say to suit others opinions One of the BIG questions I get asked a LOT is ‘how long should my posts be'… More often than not, this has been sparked by some ‘feedback' that they've had from someone else. Usually a well-intentioned friend or family member. I've had it myself. “Your posts are too long” … “I can't read all that it's like War and Peace” … “Can you get to the point already”…. “Love you, Nicola, but you say too much”… And other ‘feedback' that hasn't always been worded as nicely as the above! Most of the time, though, the ‘feedback' that's coming our way like the above is generally from people who WILL NEVER BUY FROM YOU!!!!! FACTS: Some people will read EVERY SINGLE WORD you put out. FACTS: Some people will binge watch every single video you create. FACTS: Some people LOVE short copy and will not read all you put up FACTS: Some people LOVE long copy and will not read all you put up FACTS: Trying to please everyone will have you all messed up in not much time, because everyone's version of what you SHOULD do is different!!! It's actually also quite selfish if you think about it, for them to dare TELL YOU or suggest to you that you should create content that pleases THEM!!!!!! OH HELLLLLS NO!!! We create content to help, to solve problems, to add value and to educate. There is no way you're going to please all the people, so that's enough now. PERMISSION GRANTED: You can create your content in the way that YOU want. All the words, not many words… videos that are long, videos that are short. The point is this: You use as many words as YOU want in order to get the message across. Sometimes that will be lots, sometimes it will be not many. And with that: your mission is to GET YOURSELF OUT THERE. Your job is to add value, share what you want and need to share and the hell with what anyone else thinks of you . xo MWAH!!! PS: Know you need to get out there more? Well, have I got the thing for you!!!! We start Unpack Your Genius Pathway To Millions on the 22nd of Feb. I think you should be in it! So you have a plan and a structure for all of your words, no matter how many you have!!! Find out more here: https://join.nicolamoras.com.au/unpack-your-genius

I had the pleasure of chatting with Eunsan Huh, the awesome creator of the popular Instagram account, @EverySingleWordinIcelandic. On her account, you will find Icelandic words that she has illustrated as icons, which is helping her and others to learn the language. She has also created a book called "Iceland in Icons: a Pictographic Travel Guide", which I will have a link to in the show notes of this episode.  It was so much fun to chat with her about how she fell in love with Iceland, why she started to learn the language and some of the adventures she has been on around the country. The Questions I Asked Eunsan During the Interview You have a very interesting background. You were born in Korea, raised in Australia and Canada and now you have been living in NYC for more than a decade. After being exposed to so many different cultures, what made you gravitate toward Iceland? When did you decide to start learning Icelandic? What resources are you using to learn Icelandic and what has your experience been like? What inspired you to start creating icons for Icelandic words? You have a book called “Iceland in Icons: A Pictographic Travel Guide”. Obviously, the use of icons to represent places and words in Icelandic make it unique, but what else makes your book different than other travel guides?  How many times have you visited Iceland? Do you see yourself living here?I saw on your Instagram that you have stayed and worked on a farm while in Iceland. What was that experience like? Do you recommend that to others? What is your favorite Icelandic word or phrase? You will be speaking at Tedx Reykjavík tomorrow (October 13), which is awesome! If people want to keep up with what you are doing, where should they follow you? Let’s be social! Here is where you can connect with me: InstagramFacebookYouTubeTwitter I hope you enjoyed listening to this interview. Make sure you are subscribed to the All Things Iceland podcast so you don’t miss new episodes. If the platform you are listening to this podcast on allows you to leave a review, please do so, if you haven’t already. Dylan Marron describes his childhood self as "a brown and queer kid trying to break into the entertainment industry." People told him he was very talented but was unlikely to get work, because of how he looked and who he was. Dylan started paying attention to the movies and TV shows he consumed. "I noticed there was a representation problem," he said. "Universal stories were being told, but not using bodies that reflected universal stories. Universal stories are told, by default, with white bodies." He wanted to bring attention to it in a way that wasn't preachy but factual. That's how he came up with his YouTube series, "Every Single Word." It shows popular movies edited down to only include words spoken by characters of color. In the "Every Single Word" universe, the movie "E.T." is nine seconds long. It consists entirely of a character credited only as "Van Man," saying, "Hey, who are you?" and "Open the door, son." The Harry Potter series clocks in at just over six minutes. The entire Lord of the Rings trilogy is 47 seconds. It's absurdly funny. And it gets its point across. Dylan joins us this week to talk about using humor to shine a light on social justice issues -- and how he does the same thing in his latest project, "Conversations with People Who Hate Me."

Adela chats with Dylan Marron, the creator behind the Conversations With People Who Hate Me podcast. His episode entitled Sissies and Flaming Queens was featured on our podcast playlist on Common Ground, along with episodes from Our Americana and The Spin. A little background on Dylan: he is an award-winning writer, performer, and video maker who focuses on social justice issues. He is the voice of Carlos on the hit podcast Welcome to Night Vale, an alum of the New York Neo Futurists, and the creator of Every Single Word, a video series that edits down popular films to only feature the words spoken by people of color. Dylan also created, hosted, and produced a number of shows on Seriously.tv, including Sitting in Bathrooms with Trans People, Shutting Down Bullsh*t, and the Unboxing series. Because of his work, Dylan receives a lot of negative messages on the internet. In his podcast, Conversations with People Who Hate Me, he calls some of the folks who wrote those messages to ask one simple question: why? The podcast takes contentious online conversations and moves them offline. In new episodes he will moderate conversations between people who have exchanged their own digital negativity. The podcast was selected as a Podcast Pick by USA Today & The Guardian. The show just won a Webby Award for Best Individual Episode and a Webby Honoree for Best Podcast Series. As if all of this isn’t enough, Dylan was ALSO a speaker at TED 2018 in Vancouver that took place just last month. Thanks for listening! If you have any feedback, email Adela at adela@podcastbrunchclub.com. Also, think about joining one of the many Podcast Brunch Club chapters worldwide or subscribe to the newsletter so you can get the playlist as soon as it’s published every month. Jason and Anthony are back at in again! After several years of teaming up on the queer comic podcast, Scarlet Betch, we're starting a brand new podcast on everything queer and nerdy. This week we go into a queer reading of Pixar's recent film Inside Out, talk about Dylan Marron (Welcome to Night Vale) and his Every Single Word video series that calls out the dearth of speaking roles for people of color, and squee about the coming Marvel Universe after the Secret Wars crossover. We also have a special bonus segment: a dramatic reading of slashfic. Today's selection is a wonderful Kirk/Spock fic about Kirk getting a tramp stamp. It's comedy gold.
