At the Tearoom downbeat Emma tells Natasha she heard some of the Roserran crowd made disparaging remarks about yesterday's cricket tea, knowing it came from Bridge Farm, home of the sewage leak. But Emma's bad mood is more to do with it being the anniversary of George crashing Alice's car. Natasha is very sympathetic, but later tells Emma they need to up their game with the cricket teas.Phoning from the police station Usha gives Joy details of Rochelle's arrest, explaining that potentially the charges could be very serious. Despite the mention of terrorism Mick tries playing down Joy's fears, suggesting they go for breakfast at the Tearoom. Without her mobile Joy insists on staying home in case Usha rings back. At the Tearoom Mick compares Emma's situation with George to Joy's with Rochelle, both standing by their errant child. He understands it now, where he didn't before. At the police station Usha cautions Rochelle against a “no comment” approach. Rochelle is fully committed to the cause, having been told the charges probably won't stick. She accuses Usha of bleeding heart vegetarianism, quoting Saskia, who's dismissive of people who don't take action. Usha spells out the risk of Rochelle ending up in prison and the effect it could have on her children. Rochelle agrees to at least think about a defence based on non-violent action and trying to minimise harm on the day. Later, Usha tells Joy that Rochelle will be in court tomorrow. They agree Rochelle's stubborn and impassioned, but at least Rochelle's now working with Usha, not against her.

Just like other mental and emotional conditions, such as depression and anxiety, PTSD is not limited to humans- our dogs can suffer from it as well. As with humans, PTSD can make it difficult, if not impossible, for a dog to enjoy a normal life. But just as humans can find healing with time and therapy, dogs too can overcome traumatic experiences and go on to thrive. Phoning in all the way from Sweden today is canine PTSD expert Caroline Alupo, to discuss what kind of trauma dogs can experience and how they can heal and grow afterwards. Some cool ways to elevate our self-care are sometimes by writing a letter to our future selves, phoning a friend and by asking for help. Writing a letter can be a way of accomplishing goals that you have set for yourself as well as increasing your spiritual wellness. As we grow, we must not forget to phone a friend. Most people have someone to reach out to; someone who can help get us through some painful moments in our life. Lastly, but more importantly, we have to ask for help. Some of us can be too proud to ask for help, but there is always someone we can run things by, or talk to, for help, at whatever we are doing. My military days taught me that there is never a dumb question, except the one not asked. Basically, anything goes. Be kind to yourself. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/phyllis-ruff/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/phyllis-ruff/support

Episode 425 – What Recovery Pathway is Right for Me? Today we have Doug. He is 59, from Buena Vista, CO and he took his last drink on July 28, 1982. Join Recovery Elevator in Atlanta over Memorial Day weekend for a fun conference style meet up at the Marriott in Alpharetta. This event is all about getting your connect on and it will be a fun time. Spouses or loved ones are encouraged to attend the Sunday night event and Silent Disco afterwards! [2:30] Thoughts from Paul: When building your recovery portfolio, a good goal is 50% external and 50% internal. At first, the internal work may be too big of an ask, but as your nervous system settles down, you want to aim for a balanced split. Here are some quick examples of what I mean when I say external vs internal: External: Driving to an AA meeting, or hopping on a Café RE zoom chat Phoning a sober friend Working with a sponsor Internal: Meditation Journaling Reading Quit-Lit When building out your recovery I recommend this 5-tiered approach: 1. Community – AA, SMART, Café RE, therapy, sober friends. Burn the Ships! 2. Action/Movement – Chemicals of wellbeing, endorphins, dopamine, and serotonin are released when we move. 3. Inner Peace – Meditation, breathwork, creative ventures, writing, time in nature. 4. Knowledge – Podcasts, Quit-Lit, learning about new things in and out of recovery. 5. Universe – This is not religion, but it is the spiritual component of recovery. Better Help: www.betterhelp.com/elevator - 10% off your first month. #sponsored [11:55] Paul introduces Doug: Doug had his last drink on July 28th, 1982, when he was 19 years old. He lives in Buena Vista, CO and is married and they have two adult children. He has worked in upholstery, cabinet building and installations, and has built some houses with his son. He enjoys the mountains, biking and riding his motorcycle. Doug grew up in a normal family and wasn't exposed to heavy drinking. His first experience with alcohol was when he was 4 years old when he remembers having a few sips of his mother's drink. He felt the warm glow and really liked it. Later when he was 12, a friend of his stole a bottle of liquor from his parents and while his friends were mixing it with soft drinks, Doug drank straight from the bottle. He felt something click – suddenly, he felt normal, and like everyone else. When Doug was 16 his mother passed away and the drinking escalated and continued to be excessive after graduation. Some friends invited him to Alateen meetings, and he started attending weekly. Once a month AA members would come in and share their stories. He started identifying with some of the stories which got him to start question his drinking. He realized that he was becoming less like the person that he wanted to be. When one of his former drinking friends disappeared from the meetings, he found out that they were working on sobriety with AA. That friend was a speaker at one of the meetings, and Doug noticed that they looked healthy and at peace. He chose to speak to him afterwards and expressed an interest in possibly attending AA but wasn't quite ready for it. Doug finally accepted the invitations to attend and was planning to go to a meeting on July 29th. The night before he found himself drinking and when he saw himself in a mirror started asking himself why he was drinking. He didn't have a good answer for that. AA has been a big tool for Doug, along with volunteer work. He knows that if he had continued drinking, he would not have had the life he has. He believes in counting blessings, finding things to be grateful for and putting sobriety before everything else. Cafe RE Use the promo code OPPORTUNITY to waive the set-up fee. Welcome to the What's Next! podcast with Tiffani Bova. This week I have the pleasure of re-sharing one of my favorite episodes with our first Grammy-nominated recording artist, record producer, and musician, Ryan Leslie. If that isn't impressive enough, Ryan is also a technophile, entrepreneur, and genius Harvard graduate who conferred his degrees in political science and macroeconomics at the ripe old age of 19. While at Harvard, Ryan taught himself basic production skills and also developed a musical style all his own. This led him to produce music for a variety of prominent artists, including Usher and Britney Spears, in multiple musical genres ranging from R & B and hip-hop, to pop and gospel. But, it doesn't end there, Ryan co-founded Super Phone to help track conversations via text and interact more personally and effectively with his fans. Now, he's turning Super Phone into a full-fledged CRM with a new app and funding from the likes of venture capitalist Ben Horowitz. I am very excited for you to learn more about Ryan Leslie in this episode of What's Next! THIS EPISODE IS PERFECT FOR… aspiring artists, entrepreneurs, and professionals of any kind who have a strong appetite for education and believe in the value of human connection. It is also for anyone who is looking for inspiration to tackle their own challenges and opportunities with a renewed passion! TODAY'S MAIN MESSAGE… This episode is about Ryan's journey through and from academia to entertainment, and entertainment to tech. But, more importantly, it is about Ryan's crusade to make sure that meaningful connections between human beings continue to be made, even as technology advances into new places where individuals feel like human connection is being lost. WHAT I LOVE MOST… I love how humble Ryan is about all of his amazing success and what he's trying to do to give back to his community of fans. I was so inspired by his message when I met him at the 2018 Harvest Summit not only from an academic standpoint, but how wise he is about what's really important in life.
