O. Matthiessen, Solzhenitsyn, Christopher Lasch, and Byung-Chul Han diagnosed long before the algorithm made it worse; and through why the Black Christian tradition rescued a love-centered gospel that Protestant faith-obsession had quietly abandoned. Dort spricht Erik über die Entstehung von Believe in me, please und den Weg von der ersten Idee bis zur geplanten Veröffentlichung 2026. Interviewer ist Daniel.Entwickelt wurde der Titel von einem Trio aus Erik sowie Cornel und Hennecke. Ausgangspunkt waren gemeinsame Gespräche über Brettspiele und darüber, welche Art Erlebnis am Tisch entstehen soll. Im Kern versetzt Believe in me, please die Spielenden in die Rolle von Göttern, die um Gläubige ringen. Nach Eriks Schilderung stand das Thema früh fest, bevor einzelne Mechaniken konkret ausformuliert wurden. Die Gottheiten sind dabei für Naturphänomene zuständig, die im Spielverlauf beansprucht und genutzt werden können. Als Tonvorbilder nennt Erik humoristische Einflüsse, unter anderem Terry Pratchett und Monty Python.Auch die Verlagssuche ist Teil des Gesprächs. Erik beschreibt, dass es zunächst sehr unterschiedliche Reaktionen gab, von Zurückhaltung bis deutlichem Interesse. Am Ende habe sich mit Wyrmgold ein Partner gefunden, der die Grundidee verstanden und das Projekt begleiten wollte.Beim Blick auf den Spielablauf geht es vor allem um Interaktion und Entscheidungen unter Zeitdruck am Tisch. Nach Eriks Angaben kombiniert Believe in me, please mehrere bekannte Bausteine wie Tableau Building und Deck Building. Zusätzlich soll ein verdeckter Stichmechanismus enthalten sein. Über ausgespielte Karten werden Naturphänomene beansprucht, die eigene Gottheit weiter ausgebaut und zugleich die Pläne der anderen im Blick behalten. Ein zentraler Anspruch in der Entwicklung sei gewesen, Downtime zu begrenzen, damit die Partien in Bewegung bleiben und Reaktionen auf gegnerische Züge möglich sind.Zur Gestaltung nennt Erik die Illustratorin Maren, die auch an Pagan gearbeitet hat. Für 2026 ist die Veröffentlichung angesetzt, bis dahin wird laut Erik weiter getestet und am Feinschliff gearbeitet.

As a Catholic legal scholar and philosopher at Princeton University, he was an influential opponent of Roe v. Wade and same-sex marriage, receiving a Presidential medal from President George W. Bush. George decries the “decadence” of secular culture, and, in 2016, he co-wrote an op-ed declaring Donald Trump “manifestly unfit” to serve as President. Although George disagrees with the Administration's tactics to change universities' policies by punishment, he agrees with its contention that campuses have become hotbeds of leftism that stifle debate. He regards this not as a particular evil of the left but as “human nature”: “If conservatives had the kind of monopoly that liberals had,” George tells David Remnick, “I suspect we'd have the same situation, but just in reverse.” His recent book, “Seeking Truth and Speaking Truth: Law and Morality in Our Cultural Moment,” tries to chart a course back toward civil, functioning debate in a polarized society. “I encourage my students to take courses from people who disagree with me, like Cornel West and Peter Singer,” the latter of whom is a controversial philosopher of ethics. “Cornel and I teach together for this same reason. Tyska högsjöflottan var ett allvarligt hot mot det brittiska sjöherraväldet. Från sina hamnar på den nederländska kusten kunde den nå ut på Nordsjön och allvarligt störa den för britterna livsviktiga handeln. Men det fanns ett problem. Tyskarna ville undvika att möta hela den numerärt överlägsna brittiska flottan.I stället inriktade man sig på att försöka slå ut delar av Royal Navy. Britterna å sin sida försökte stänga in den tyska flottan och i andra hand locka ut den för att krossa den. En katt och råtta lek blev resultatet. Under de första krigsåren utkämpades bara mindre strider mellan mindre delar av de båda flottorna.I detta avsnitt av Militärhistoriepodden diskutera Martin Hårdstedt och Peter Bennesved sjökrigföringen de första krigsåren av första världskriget.Tyskarna kunde hota det brittiska sjöherraväldet på i huvudsak tre sätt. Först med kryssare utanför Europa som opererade och störde den brittiska handeln. För det andra utgjorde den tyska högsjöflottan ett ständigt hot som band i stort sett hela den brittiska sjömakten till Nordsjön och Engelska kanalen. I tredje hand ökade hotet från tyska ubåtar och utvecklades till det kanske effektivaste tyska medlet att slå mot britterna.Tyska kryssare söktes upp och sänktes i de två slagen vid Cornel utanför Chiles kust och Falklandsöarna i november och december 1914. Att komma åt den tyska högsjöflotta blev svårare. Britterna kunde inte som under föregående krig med motståndare på kontinenten blockera den tyska flottan och tvinga den att hålla sig i hamn. Nya vapen som minor och ubåtar utgjorde ett alltför allvarligt hot mot de stora brittiska ytfartygen.Ett anfall på den tyska flottbasen vid ön Helgoland i augusti 1914 ledde inte till att tyskarna tog upp striden. Det var effektivt och det fördes utan restriktioner som var en förutsättning för att tillräckligt många handelsfartyg sänktes och påverkade de brittiska krigsansträngningarna. Ett stort problem var att även neutrala fartyg sänktes och inte minst sänkningen av det amerikanska passagerarfartyget Lusitania i maj 1915 fick icke önskvärda konsekvenser. Sänkningen kom att påverka den amerikanska opinionen i riktning mot att gå med i kriget på ententens sida. Det skulle i slutänden leda till tyskarnas nederlag i kriget. Robert George is a renowned conservative legal scholar and Catholic professor at Princeton University, while Cornel West is a leading progressive philosopher and Protestant scholar at Union Theological Seminary, and an academic celebrity. Cornel serves as a professor of philosophy in Christian Practice at Union Theological Seminary and is an emeritus professor of African-American Studies at Princeton University. Robert is a professor of Jurisprudence and the director of the James Madison Program in American Ideals and Institutions at Princeton University. The two discuss their deep bond of friendship, built on the basis of pursuing truth and fostering intellectual humility, explored in their recent book Truth Matters. They discuss how to cultivate these relationships and bring people to the table for these conversations. They conclude by examining the importance of studying both the progressive and conservative traditions for the flourishing of the individual and society as a whole.

We then went across the street where several groups that were supportive of nuclear were tabling, where we talked with Martha Viglietta of the Citizens Climate Lobby, best known for its promotion of carbon pricing. We then hear from Cornel professor Robert Howarth, a member of the state's Climate Action Council, whose official NYS Climate Scoping Plan rejected new nuclear.
