In the wilderness of the soul, we can become more familiar with pain than progress and more acquainted with loneliness than companionship. But what if the purpose of our wandering is not to reach the Promised Land but to recognize that God is with us in the desert? Pastor Faith Eury Cho shares from her book “Experiencing Friendship with God: How the Wilderness Draws Us to His Presence.” *Originally aired October 16, 2023* Faith Radio podcasts are made possible by your support. Join us as Faith Eury Cho shares her inspiring journey from a young girl seeking God to following her calling to become a preacher and leader in ministry. As the CEO and founder of The Honor Summit, a nonprofit organization that equips and activates Asian American women for the mission of God, Faith brings a wealth of experience and wisdom. Alongside her husband, Pastor David Cho, she is also the co-founder and co-pastor of Mosaic Covenant Church of NJ. Faith opens up about the challenges she faced as a minority female in ministry, often without role models and navigating the narcissistic tendencies of some leaders. Despite these obstacles, she emphasizes the sufficiency of God's presence, especially for those who feel marginalized in the church. She underscores that true impact in ministry comes from relying on God rather than seeking control or affirmation from others. Faith Eury Cho's story is one of resilience, grace, and deep spiritual intimacy. Her experiences offer valuable lessons on the importance of relying on God, the transformative power of wilderness seasons in shaping our faith, and the necessity of community and discernment in ministry. Do you ever feel like there's no time to write? Life is busy. As we strive to steward the many aspects of our lives一school, kids, work, church, and family一writing often gets pushed to the backburner. This leads many to conclude: “I'm just not meant to write in this season.” While that may be true, perhaps our expectations about the writing life are misinformed. The average author doesn't take a yearly retreat in some quaint, exotic location. Instead, they write from the trenches of everyday life. Right in the middle of the mess. What if God is calling you to write, right where you are? What if your limited bandwidth, when entrusted to him, is more than enough? What if your limits are a chance to see God work through you? In this episode, pastor, speaker, and author Faith Eury Cho shares the story of writing her first book, Experiencing Friendship with God. Spoiler: she didn't escape to a cabin in the woods for a month. Instead, she wrote in the midst of her life as a mother, wife, and leader. She explains to senior editor Will Parker Anderson: How to write even when it feels like there's no time What she learned as a first-time author How to connect with readers in a deep way How to listen for God's voice as you write How to follow God's leading, not just industry trends For every writer that feels strapped for time, burned out, or unproductive, this episode is for you. By the end of this conversation, you'll be reminded that God sees you and the words you write. Nothing is wasted. In fact, life's messiest moments are the very place God tends to produce the sweetest fruit. I remember, at a young age, seeing in scripture that Abraham was called a “friend of God.” Those words jumped off the page to me and I remember thinking - wow! I wonder how you get to actually be “friends” with God - so much that it's even recorded in scripture. Well, my guest today has a passion for that very thing and has devoted her life to ministry and teaching others about the friendship of the Lord. I am so excited for you to hear from Faith Eury Cho today. She has been in ministry since she was 19 years old and in her words, met Jesus at a young age and hasn't stopped talking about Him since. She is a speaker, author, CEO and founder of The Honor Summit, church planter, and much more. She has a new book out called Experiencing Friendship with God that looks at what that means and the path to getting there (spoiler alert: the wilderness is involved). I know that, like me, you will find Faith's words to be both encouraging and challenging but definitely life giving as we dive into what it means to have a personal friendship with God and how we get there. If you are deep in a wilderness season and feeling angry, confused, frustrated, even wondering if God is there and why it all even matters or if you are in calmer days but still feel like you don't really KNOW God or want to know Him more personally, this message is for you! So grab a cup of coffee and your journal or notebook (you will want to take notes - I promise) and meet a God who is bigger than any wilderness you will ever face but desires you to know Him intimately. Faith Eury Cho, author of "Experiencing Friendship with God: How the Wilderness Draws Us To His Presence," talks about how gratitude brought her closest to God in one of her darkest circumstances, why God doesn't want to speak to you through signs from the universe, and why the wilderness is actually a gift.
What is the "wilderness"? It's when our understanding of God does not match our experience. Let that sink in for a minute. Faith Eury Cho talks about the raw honesty we can have with God and how that plants roots for friendship. As we look ahead to the new year we want to be considering how to live a faithful life, how to rise to meet the moments in front of us, even when we're not FEELING our faith. Gratitude. Curiosity. Thanksgiving. These are practices we can use to remember who God is, invite him into our daily minutia of life, and thank him for what he has already done and has yet to do. If you're wondering how to face the next few weeks or next year, we invite you to listen in to this conversation and tell us how you are cultivating a real friendship with the living God. Connect with Faith On her website or Instagram Mentioned on the show Faith's new book Experiencing Friendship with God: How the Wilderness Draws Us to His Presence Questions for reflection -How do you see God drawing near to you? - In what ways can you be more honest with him as you end this year? -How can you live in expectation that he will be with you, no matter what you're facing, in 2024?
A conversation about pain, disappointment, and friendship with God with Faith Eury ChoWORSHIPING IN THE WILDERNESSIt wasn't until late in 2022 that one little story in David's narrative stuck out to me. I was going through my own wilderness season, and had been for about a year and a half when I read it.When King David was returning to the wilderness in 2 Samuel 15 on his way into exile from his son Absalom who had taken over his kingdom, he paused. He paused to let everyone who was traveling with him (over 600 men and their families to pass by him), while Abiathar the priest made sacrifices. Wow.Y'all. This is powerful. It shows us that we can keep worshiping, even when we are on the way into a wilderness season, and all of our options feel heavy and impossible to navigate.I don't know whether you are coming out of a wilderness season, feeling like you're on the way into the wilderness or somewhere in between, but the one thing we learn from David is that the wilderness does not dictate our ability to worship the Lord in everything. This week, we continue to reflect on some of the themes in Session Five of Selah: Worship Invites Resilience in the Wilderness.TODAY WE'RE REFLECTING ON JAMES 1:5-6 ESV:If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind.A WOMAN YOU SHOULD KNOWToday, Ty and I get ready to close out this season by featuring one woman who has impacted both of us. Jason and Tracy unpack current mental health trends, including the complex relationship between mental health accounts on social media and clinical diagnoses, as well as the conversation around hot topics such as narcissism. The His & Her Money Show: Managing Money, Marriage, and Everything In Between
Cultivating a strong friendship with God is all about building a close and meaningful relationship with the divine. Just like how we nurture friendships with people, we can also nurture our bond with God. It involves spending time in prayer or meditation, reading sacred texts, and reflecting on our beliefs and values. Developing this friendship can bring comfort, guidance, and a sense of purpose to our lives. It's a journey of trust, love, and understanding, where we seek to connect with the divine presence that many believe watches over us and cares for us. Individuals often turn to their religious scriptures, mentors, or trusted community members for support and wisdom in this pursuit. They strive to live per their beliefs and values, seeking to grow spiritually and morally. Building a strong relationship with God can provide solace in difficult times and a sense of gratitude in moments of joy. In this episode of The His and Her Money Show, we are joined by Faith Eury Cho, an international speaker, pastor, church planter, CEO of a nonprofit, and the author of Experiencing Friendship with God, to talk about building a strong friendship with God. Faith shares her journey in Christianity, the experience that led her to be in a place of resentment toward God, and Tips for building a strong friendship with God despite the destructions of the world. We've all walked through our seasons of wilderness. Seasons where you felt lonely, angry, and abandoned. You've wondered if anyone sees you. Does God even see you? Friends, what if those seasons of wilderness weren't about thinking you were abandoned by God, but instead designed for you to grow in intimacy and friendship with God? On today's show Faith Eury Cho challenges our way of thinking about the wilderness as she shares her own season of anger and discouragement. Faith Eury Cho has been a preacher since she was 19-years-old. Alongside her husband David, Faith co-founded and co-pastors Mosaic Covenant Church of NJ. In addition, she is the founder and CEO of The Honor Summit, a nonprofit organization that activates Asian American women for the mission of God. She is also an itinerant speaker and author of Experiencing Friendship with God (releasing October 17th 2023). However, her most precious role is being a mother to her 4 children— Moriah, Elias, River, and Adalynn.Whether you're currently in a season of wilderness, or on the other side, I hope this episode encourages you to not get caught up in a noisy, empty christianity, but instead to press into an intimate friendship with your Savior. In the wilderness of the soul, we can become more familiar with pain than progress and more acquainted with loneliness than companionship. But what if the purpose of our wandering is not to reach the Promised Land but to recognize that God is with us in the desert? While almost all of us would say we want to be friends with God, actually forming a relationship like that – especially in seasons of wilderness – can feel elusive. I think Faith Eury Cho sums up this conversation (and points to her new book) perfectly saying, "This is for the one who wants a real relationship with Presence of God, one that goes beyond feel-good platitudes and momentary inspiration." The hope is that this conversation begins to remove some of the barriers that block our connection with God. @faitheurycho on Instagram Pre-order Experiencing Friendship with God: How the Wilderness Draws us to His Presence (the launch is next week, on October 17th!)
