The No-Spend Challenge: Can You Survive 28 Days?

In this 247th Episode of the Small Scale Life Podcast, Tom and Adam discuss origins, tips and guidelines for the February No-Spend Challenge (or Frugal February Challenge) on Small Scale Life. Can you survive the No-Spend Challenge for 28 days? Unfortunately, this is the season....to pay the piper. December is usually expensive and gets us in trouble. The holidays bring us expenses with presents, gatherings, parties, events and vacations. January brings us the cold hard reality: we have bills to pay and usually don't have enough money to cover the rest of the month. It can be stressful: there were times where Jules and I had $50 in the account to get us through the month! Fortunately, February isn't usually as cold as January. We have an opportunity to catch our breath and dig ourselves out of a financial hole (provided that we don't blow it all out on Valentine's Day). We can literally thaw the deep freeze on our wallets and bank accounts if we take control of our budgets and cut spending. How is your bank account looking right now? Maybe it is a pocket full of sunshine and you are smiling. Maybe it is empty as the grasslands of South Dakota and has tumbleweeds blowing across it. Whatever situation you might be in right now, events and decisions in far off places are going to hurt our accounts. The fact is that tariffs on goods and energy are going to hurt the American consumer. We need to acknowledge that fact and prepare accordingly, so even if you have a fat wallet and happy bank account, we need to prepare for what is coming at the stores and at the pump.  It doesn't matter what you believe politically, there will be repercussions from policy decisions and actions in the far off Heart of the American Empire.  Failing to prepare is preparing to fail.  This is a hard reality, and I hope you understand that as we move forward and prepare accordingly. If you are struggling financially, there are a few ways to get out of it. One way is to make more money (side hustles, extra jobs, etc.). Another way is to dramatically cut back on expenses, especially the ones that are not necessary.  We are going to focus on cutting expenses dramatically in No-Spend Challenge or Frugal February. Remember: February is the shortest month of the year. You can do this; we can help! Learn, do, grow and be a little better everyday! For more resources including tips, guidelines and budgeting tools, check out the post at Small Scale Life! (https://smallscalelife.com) Special Guest: Adam Rick.

Everyone has a different value system with money, I might value a handbag, you might value a new pair of shoes or a nice restaurant. We are all different and it is important that we respect each others value systems without any judgement. At the end of the day, it is about living a life authentically aligned to our value systems. The same principal goes for being frugal - everyone has their own value system in the way they chose to save money. For my annual Frugal February challenge, (6th year in a row) I tried to be as frugal as I could with my current budget. This is what I did, where I saved and how it all added up - please also note that after our essential bills and expenses, we have a very normal family budget to stick to - this challenge wasn't easy as our current budget is already maxed out with lots of saving hacks so there wasn't much room to stretch it further - however I did give it a good go and was pleasantly surprised.  Also, whilst Frugal February actually goes against my principals of abundance and gratitude - I prefer to say I am more mindful than frugal...nonetheless, this is a beautifully humbling financial challenge, that recalibrates me and projects me back into my financial focus for a productive 2022. $1,465 - result... Lunch to work and made my own snacks Cleaned my own office Clean my own car DIY Manicures No lifestyle shopping (e.g. clothing but I did buy some super cute slippers for $6 from Kmart) Frugal Weekends at home Cooked in bulk - food planned - I kept to our $300 pw grocery shop (I tried to cut this down but it was impossible) Caught up with friends at home or went for walks instead of cafes My own self tan and beauty hacks Decluttered my wardrobe $1465 saved over 28 days, excluding the savings from our gas, electricity and Foxtel (here we saved over $120 per month - but these savings say within our family savings to help cover new swimming lessons) - two steps forward, one step back but at least in the right direction!  I will wait until this savings hits $2,000 and I will then invest it into a LIC - I am a high growth long term investor, my goal is all about building my passive income via dividends i.e. My Mindful Money Number.  INSTAGRAM - @SugarMammaTV AND @CannaCampbellofficial

Episode 45 - There are topics ahead! We get into some of the polls we ran and answer those questions. We discuss where the podcast story originated, *originally* - we also talk about weenus and kneenus tattoos, Tyler the Creator in a relationship with Jayden Smith, trial and error with women, organizational skills and Frugal February! Of course, we pay homage to Tom Brady and prattle over who was more competitive, the Goat or Jordan.
