In 2022, best friends and business partners Lise Carlaw and Sarah Wills decided to host an afternoon dance party at a bowling club in Brisbane. Three years later, Disco Club has become a movement, with thousands of women, between the ages of 18 and 81, turning up to dance their worries away in a safe, inclusive environment. In this episode of the Stellar podcast, Lise and Sarah share the story behind Disco Club’s wild success, they explain why every woman needs an “ugly friend” in her life, and they reflect on the popularity of their recaps of The Golden Bachelor and why we desperately need more visibility for women over 40 on TV. Lise and Sarah’s national Disco Club tour kicks off on March 7 in Brisbane, before heading to Melbourne, Sydney and Perth. Head here for tickets. Watch the full episode with Lise and Sarah here. Rachel Griffiths says she just got through her "peak mid-hell years" and she's here to tell us how. The actor, producer, and director has had many eras - from the "fast start" of Muriel's Wedding to being a Hollywood awards darling, a big-deal US TV star, the director of the Australian classic movie Ride Like A Girl, the co-creator of Total Control and now, the star of the TV show Madam. Through all that, she was also wrestling with the relatable MID dramas - parenting teens and young adults, a diagnosis that made sense of so much, caring for ageing relatives and trying to keep a long-term marriage going. No wonder, as she tells host Holly Wainwright, she and her husband needed a sabbatical. This conversation also veers off into ageing, the Hollywood stars Rachel used to envy but no longer does, how to stay optimistic in a tumultuous world and the relief of finding out she's "ADHD AF". You might know Poh Ling Yeow as an artist, a chef and a regular fixture on television ever since she was first introduced to Australia on MasterChef. But that’s just the public side of Poh. The version you see is only part of her truth; behind it lies a layered, often painful journey. In this conversation Poh opens up about her years spent in the church before walking away from it, which left her untangling years of belief and identity. She shares the profound grief she has experienced with the loss of her mother, and as well as the heartbreak of two marriage breakdowns and how those moments led to loneliness, questioning and rebuilding. But through it all, she’s discovered something quite extraordinary: an ability to find beauty in the sorrow, light in the mess, and humour in the most unexpected places. This is a conversation about identity, resilience, creativity, and what it means to truly move on and start over. Specifically, it’s about finding it in your MID years. Maybe for the second, fourth, first time. This is a story about Dr Amantha Imber, an organisational psychologist who got divorced a few years ago. When Amantha knew she wanted to re-partner, she went about it with a typical approach to efficiency - going on more than 50 first dates in her first stint of online dating. Those dates had strict rules and boundaries, time limits and schedules and… they didn’t work. So then, Amantha drew up a brief and cold-called a long list of people in her circle who might know the person she was looking for…. But… well, that didn’t work either. You can learn more about Amantha and follow her work here. You can purchase Amantha's book The Health Habit here. You can also listen to her podcast, How I Work, here. Find more MID here. Madeleine West has lived many lives— from Neighbours’ Dee Bliss to Underbelly’s Danielle McGuire, she’s been a fixture on Australian screens for decades. Beyond acting, she’s also an advocate, a survivor, and now, at 47, she’s stepping into a surprising new chapter... motherhood for the seventh time. What she first thought was menopause turned out to be an unexpected pregnancy, something that took time to embrace. But that’s not the only battle Madeleine has faced. Just a few years ago, she made the courageous decision to help police uncover a pedophile—the man who abused her as a child. In this deeply personal and powerful conversation, Madeleine opens up about: How she came to terms with becoming a mother again at 47 The media storm that forced her to announce her pregnancy before she was ready The darkness she had to push through to become the woman she is today The moment she wore a wire to confront her abuser This is a story of survival, strength, and reclaiming your own narrative - no matter how impossible it may seem. A lot of people have been cancelled in 2025, and Clare Stephens has spoken to a few of them. The writer, editor and podcaster joins Sarrah Le Marquand to unpack the psychology behind outrage culture, the emotional toll of public shaming, and the double standards that still define how we judge women in the public eye. Alongside publishing her debut novel The Worst Thing I’ve Ever Done, this year Clare also launched The Pile-On, a podcast giving voice to people who’ve been “cancelled” and exploring what those moments reveal about all of us. In this conversation, she reflects on empathy, accountability, and why she believes it’s time we stopped confusing cruelty with change. Find Clare’s book The Worst Thing I’ve Ever Done here. In this Best Of episode of Black Magic Woman, I sit down with Dem Mob, a rising Indigenous hip-hop group making waves in the Australian music scene. Formed in 2019 as a school project designed to re-engage Indigenous youth through music and culture, Dem Mob have since evolved into a powerhouse collective. Their music brings Aboriginal language and culture to the forefront, blending English and Pitjantjatjara to reach and connect with diverse audiences. In this yarn, Dem Mob reflect on their origins, their mission to inspire Indigenous young people, and the importance of integrating culture with education. They share how music became an escape, a form of empowerment, and a way to navigate education systems that often leave Indigenous students feeling disconnected. Now performing on major stages and earning national recognition, Dem Mob continue to give back to community while using music as a tool for change. Scapegoating at work is one of the most subtle—and damaging—forms of workplace abuse. Unlike bullying, which is overt and direct, scapegoating often hides in plain sight: an individual is unfairly blamed, excluded, or sacrificed to protect the image of a team or leader. In this episode, Dr. Nathalie Martinek, author of The Scapegoating Playbook at Work, unpacks the predictable stages of scapegoating and how they unfold in professional settings. You’ll learn: Why scapegoating isn’t the same as bullying (though they can overlap). The stages of the scapegoating pattern and warning signs to look out for. How leaders and employees can interrupt the cycle before it causes long-term harm. Practical steps to create cultures of accountability that don’t rely on targeting individuals when problems arise. If you’ve ever felt unfairly blamed at work—or witnessed a colleague being sacrificed for the sake of “team harmony”—this conversation will help you name what’s happening, protect yourself and others, and inspire healthier workplace practices. After nearly 17 years of marriage, David and Lisa Campbell decided it was time to embark on a passion project that would fulfil each of them in a very specific way. So they launched a podcast, one devoted to the legacy of Jane Austen. Lisa, a theatre producer and casting director, has been an Austen devotee for her entire adult life. Today Extra co-host and entertainer David, meanwhile, only recently picked up Pride And Prejudice for the first time. Into The Austenverse blends pop culture, literature and the unique rhythms of their enduring marriage, with plenty of wit along the way. In this conversation, they talk about where the idea started, what revisiting Austen’s world has revealed to them, and how the themes of love, class and character still resonate today. They open up about family life, their friendship with Magda Szubanski, and why – 13 years on – David still loves working in morning TV. Watch the full episode with David and Lisa here.
