Thirty years ago this July, a catchy song called ‘Wannabe’, sung by a then-unknown pop group called the Spice Girls, hit radio airwaves – and a global phenomenon was born. For Melanie C, who was just 22 at the time and one-fifth of the group that brought “girl power” to a new generation, the sudden blast of “Spice mania” was intoxicating, intimidating and ultimately short-lived. Three decades later, Melanie is a successful solo artist who has also found her groove touring the world as a DJ, she is a coach on The Voice Australia, and she remains close to all of her former bandmates. On this episode of the Stellar podcast, Melanie opens up about what really goes on in group chats with her fellow Spice Girls, explains how her upcoming album and world tour hark back to her early days as a raver, and explains how finding love with an Australian helped her grow more comfortable with work/life balance. Plus, she answers the eternal question: could the Spice Girls someday make their way here for their first-ever Australian shows? Watch the full episode with Melanie C here. Should you actually sit on public toilet seats? It’s the debate dividing the team this week, as Tegan and Sadaf weigh in on whether it’s fine or whether hovering is the only option. Then, Tegan takes a deep dive into melasma, the stubborn pigmentation condition that can be incredibly frustrating to manage. She explains what actually causes melasma, why it’s so closely linked to hormones and sun exposure, and the key things you can do to help prevent it from worsening. Tegan also breaks down the treatment options available, from skincare you can use at home to the professional treatments that can help manage it in-clinic. Finally, in Adore Anon, a listener wants to know what she can actually do about split ends. Are there products that genuinely repair them, or is the only real fix a haircut? The team shares practical tips for preventing and managing split ends so your hair stays as healthy as possible between trims. This week on Uncensored, Mel and Hannah dive into the weird, wonderful and slightly questionable things living in our handbags… and what might also be living on them. From loose lip balms and snack crumbs to rogue hair ties and mystery receipts, Mel and Hannah compare the chaotic contents of their bags and discuss the surprising amount of bacteria handbags can harbour if they’re never cleaned. We’ve also got long-time Australian beauty editor Sarah Tarca and co-creator of beauty newsletter Gloss Etc. on the show to talk through the products she’s loved most throughout her career in beauty. Skincare staples, makeup she refuses to give up, and a discontinued perfume she still mourns, plus the fragrance she now wears that gets constant compliments and acts as a close semi-dupe. Hannah has always been a fan of cult Skinceuticals serum C E Ferulic, but she recently branched out into other products from the Skinceuticals lineup, discovering a few under-the-radar formulas that deserve just as much attention. She shares what she’s been testing, what surprised her, and which products might be worth adding to your routine if you’re already a fan of the brand. Like many of us, Katherine Bennell-Pegg grew up with a dream of one day becoming an astronaut. But unlike most childhood dreamers, Katherine actually achieved hers. In 2024, she became the first astronaut to officially represent Australia and the first Australian woman to receive professional astronaut wings. On January 25 this year, she was named the 2026 Australian of the Year for her trailblazing contribution to the Australian space industry. In this episode of the Stellar podcast, Katherine opens up about the decades of sacrifice it took to get here, what she really thinks about the criticism of her Australian of the Year win, and why she believes you don't need to leave Earth to change the world. In this vibrant and deeply engaging episode of Inner Voice of Knowing, Kaye Doran is joined by John Anthony, Director of Transcend — a leadership educator whose work bridges positive psychology, neuroscience, cognitive behavioural therapy, and the creative arts. John’s journey began in music, where identity and expression were inseparable from performance. Yet life eventually asked a deeper question: who are we when the role we’ve always known no longer defines us? What unfolds is a lively and thoughtful conversation about identity, energy and the powerful narratives we carry about ourselves. John describes how the mind often behaves like a thermostat, returning us to familiar emotional patterns and behaviours even when those patterns no longer serve us. Kaye reframes many of these patterns as false stories and beliefs — internal narratives formed early in life that quietly shape the way we interpret the world. Together they explore resilience, authenticity and the subtle energetic exchanges that occur between people when we are truly engaged. Threaded throughout the conversation are humour, curiosity and a shared appreciation for the creative nature of being human. Because beneath the labels we inherit and the stories we repeat, there is something deeper waiting to be expressed. Not the role we learned to play. But the song beneath the story. ✨ In this episode you’ll explore: How early experiences shape subconscious beliefs and identity• Why the mind returns to familiar emotional patterns• The power of questioning the stories we believe about ourselves• The role of energy and presence in authentic connection• Why curiosity and lifelong learning are powerful forces for growth Website: www.transcend.com.auSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

This week on Expert, Sadaf and Tegan are all about tough love. Got sunburnt? They’re not mad, they’re just disappointed! Still, it happens to all of us sometimes, but there are ways to cope with an accidental one. But first up, Sadaf shares a game-changing under-eye concealer trick from TikTok for amazing dark circle coverage, and Tegan jumps in with her own clever hack for setting concealer without the creases. How to avoid emphasising fine lines + concealer that lasts the distance? Yes, please. Then it’s Win, Bin, Recycle: lash curlers. Are the scary-looking contraptions an essential step or a relic from 2003? The team debates whether they’re worth the effort. And yep, we’ve all been there. Accidental sunburn. Sadaf and Tegan break down immediate steps to calm inflamed skin, ingredients that help vs ingredients that will make it all worse, the active skincare products to pause, and what in-clinic treatments you can and can’t get done while your skin is healing. Finally, a listener needs advice: she’s got the crotch sweats. Mel and Hannah are back, and there’s a new mini in town! Hannah catches us up on baby Mila and newborn life. This week’s episode covers everything from red carpet glam to peeling heels, so strap in.First up, we’re talking cracked heels. You know that thick, dry heel skin that no amount of body lotion can fix? Hannah’s figured out how to get rid of it, but Mel also has some historically excellent (and gross) tools for anyone who gets weird satisfaction out of bits of dead skin coming off their feet. We break down what actually works on stubborn hard skin, how to avoid overdoing it (because yes, you absolutely can) and the one method that really delivers. Then, the ladies are joined by makeup artist and Senior Editor at Fashion Journal, Lara Daly, who has been perfecting her recreation of the 'Nina Park Lip'. If you’ve been watching red carpets lately and wondering why everyone from Emma Stone to Jessie Buckley’s lips look softly blurred, perfectly lined, but not overdone? That’s thanks to Hollywood makeup artist Nina Park. Lara tells us the secret to that diffused, pillowy lip finish, why precise liner placement matters more than overlining, and the skin-first approach that makes the whole look feel modern. Plus, does it work for everyday, not just the red carpet? And Mel finally puts the internet-famous K18 AirWash Dry Shampoo to the test. After blowing up on social media with claims it’s “not like other dry shampoos”, Mel gives her honest, unfiltered verdict: Does it actually absorb oil? Does it leave buildup? Is it worth the price tag? And who will love it — and who should skip it?Thank you to Lara Daly from Fashion Journal for joining us! For more than a decade, Rove McManus was one of the most familiar faces on Australian TV. Rove Live helped launch the careers of some of Australia's brightest talents – including Carrie Bickmore, Peter Helliar, Hamish Blake and Andy Lee – it attracted some of the biggest stars on the planet, and created viral moments before internet virality even existed. On this episode of the Stellar podcast, he shares the reason he first hired Carrie Bickmore, and the strangest complaints the show ever received, plus he reflects on why a show like Rove Live couldn’t exist today. In this episode of Leading You, Julie Hyde continues the conversation on leadership identity and explores one of the most important shifts high-performing women must make. Moving from being the dependable Achiever or Go-To to becoming the trusted Authority. Many capable women are rewarded for being reliable, responsive, and indispensable. But over time, these identities can quietly limit influence, visibility, and progression. In today’s fast-changing workplace shaped by AI, restructures, and leaner teams, relevance is everything. Julie shares a powerful client story of a high-performing leader returning from maternity leave who found herself misaligned and overlooked despite strong results. Nothing changed externally until she shifted internally. Within three months of repositioning herself, she was promoted. This episode introduces three forward-facing identities that support long-term leadership influence: the Author, the Anchor, and the Authority. It also unpacks why women delay this shift and what courage really looks like in practice. If you’re performing well but sensing friction, exhaustion, or stagnation, this episode will help you reflect on who you’re being rewarded for being and who you need to become next. Your child lies. You catch them. They double down. Now what? When an 8-year-old swears they didn’t sneak the TV or the treats (even with chocolate on their face), most parents panic about what it means for the future. In this episode of The Happy Families Podcast, Justin and Kylie explain why lying is normal, why punishment makes it worse, and how to respond in a way that builds honesty instead of fear. If you want truth without tears, this conversation changes everything. KEY POINTS Lying is a developmental milestone, not a moral collapse. The harsher the punishment, the better kids get at hiding. Shame damages relationships and kills honesty. Most lies are about avoiding trouble or getting access to something they want. The goal isn’t catching kids out — it’s solving the problem together. You’ll have this conversation again and again. That’s normal parenting. QUOTE OF THE EPISODE “Lying is not a moral crisis. It’s a teachable moment.” RELATED RESOURCES #846 An Honest Conversation [podcast episode] ACTION STEPS FOR PARENTS Stay calm. Avoid lectures and threats. You might know her as Ivy Forrester on The Bold And The Beautiful, the long-running soap opera that has been broadcast around the world for nearly 40 years. That role marked Ashleigh Brewer’s breakout in the US, after she first came to notice working in Australian children’s shows like The Sleepover Club and H20: Just Add Water, before joining the cast of Neighbours at the age of 18. But as you’ll hear in this episode of the Stellar podcast, at 35, Ash has lived just as many lives as a character on a soap opera. Last December, she got married, and as she reveals for the first time in this interview, she is entering her third trimester as she prepares to welcome her first baby. All this has coincided with a time when Ash has never felt more comfortable in her own body, because as she also explains, she struggled with an eating disorder for several years. Candid, raw and reflective, Ash also opens up on how she pulled together her low-key, no-fuss wedding day in just nine days, why sobriety was a key part of her recovery, and how how finding support from a strong circle of fellow Aussie expats and actors including Phoebe Tonkin, Samara Weaving and her one-time housemate and Neighbours co-star Margot Robbie helped her to heal. In this Best Of episode, I revisit some of the most powerful moments from my yarn with Nooky — a conversation that moves between music, culture, grief, and survival. We reflect on the making of his album with 3%, including the collaborations that shaped it and the intention behind centring cultural history and awareness. The iconic album artwork featuring Nicky Winmar stands as a defining moment in the discussion — a symbol of resistance, strength, and truth-telling in the face of racism. Nooky also speaks candidly about his personal journey through grief and addiction, and how community became central to his healing. His commitment to creating space for mob is evident through initiatives like We Are Warriors and his film trilogy centred on the black cockatoo — stories grounded in mentorship, culture, and passing knowledge to the next generation. We also touch on friendship, connection, and shared cultural spaces, including his relationship with The Kid Laroi, highlighting how community and identity continue to shape Indigenous voices in music. This Best Of yarn is a reminder of the power of storytelling — and how resilience, culture, and music can be tools for change, advocacy, and collective strength. What happens when you have the ‘perfect’ corporate job at a top-tier firm with a clear path to partnership, but deep down, you feel a pull towards something else? For Alex Marks, the founder of New York’s cult-favourite ‘Sushi Counter’, that pull wasn’t just a distraction - it was the catalyst for trading a high-flying legal career for a world of total uncertainty. Before she was serving thousands of rolls a day, Alex was a successful M&A lawyer at the top-tier firm Herbert Smith Freehills. She loved the late nights, the adrenaline, and the "in the trenches" camaraderie. But a dream transfer to New York became the catalyst for her pivot when she faced an immediate culture clash. Realising the US corporate world was an "individual sport" she didn't want to play, Alex was faced with a choice: Stay in a job that wasn't a fit, or risk it all. She chose risk. Pouring her entire $100,000 USD life savings into an idea, she quit her job and, a week later, signed a lease for a tiny shop to sell the Australian-style sushi she couldn't find anywhere in the city. In this episode of Pivot Club, Sarah Davidson speaks with Alex about this massive industry leap. They unpack the "messy middle" of her entire journey: From the "primitive" Excel model that convinced her to take the leap, to the humbling reality of hand-filling 50,000 soy sauce fish with a syringe in her living room. Alex shares the unfiltered story of how she navigated intense online backlash just one week after opening and how she scaled from a team of one (plus a supportive boyfriend) to a staff of 30. Join us for a raw and practical lesson in naive optimism, a look into the grit required to build a business from the ground up and a powerful reminder that sometimes, the fear of regret is far scarier than the fear of failure. What happens when you're not just climbing the ladder, but standing at the very top? For Lize Ratliff, that meant achieving her dream job as Head of Podcasts at Mamamia, after 10 years hustling to get there. Lize’s journey is a masterclass in pure tenacity. She started at 19 as an intern from a small country town, so determined to work for Mia Freedman that she "literally didn't leave”. Over the next decade, she climbed the ladder through nine different titles - from intern to Mia's EA, to the first-ever producer of No Filter - eventually becoming the woman running the entire 29-show operation. For Lize, the birth of her first child was the catalyst for an enormous change. Realising the demands of the job were incompatible with the life she wanted as a mother, she and her husband came to a terrifying realisation: they needed to ‘blow up their life.’ In a move that left many stunned, they both quit their high-profile Sydney jobs, moved to Newcastle, and Lize enrolled in a Master's degree to pursue a completely new career: As a high school English teacher. This is a raw and candid look at what it means to walk away from the top. We cover the creative job application that got her hired, the moment she crashed her boss's car (and kept her job), and the overwhelming "what have I done?" feeling that hits after you trade a high-prestige career for a student ID. Get ready to learn why sometimes, you have to "just jump.” THE END BITS: Want more from Sarah Davidson? Check out her podcast Seize The Yay. Discover more Mamamia podcasts here. What happens when you decide to take the leap with a dream you’ve been sitting on for years? For Lyndi Cohen, that dream meant pivoting into an industry she knew nothing about, long after she’d built her own successful empire. Lyndi’s first journey began after a decade-long battle with binge eating, leading her to build an anti-diet media brand from the ground up. She shortly evolved into who we now know as ‘The Nude Nutritionist’, becoming a renowned TV expert, author and app founder, helping thousands heal their relationships with food and body image. But one niggling idea wouldn’t go away...And now, Lyndi is making her most dramatic pivot of all. Leaping from the world of nutrition and landing herself straight into her very own fashion debut: launching a swimwear brand, Fearless. In this episode of Pivot Club, Sarah Davidson speaks with Lyndi about this massive industry leap. They unpack the "messy middle" of her entire career: graduating with no job prospects and using "SEO hacks to manifest a media career", to the $180,000 investment that was required to build a swimwear line from scratch. Lyndi shares her core belief that "the key to success is embarrassment" and why it's been essential for this new fashion venture. Join us for a raw and practical lesson in constant evolution, a deep dive into the strategy of scaling an idea and a powerful reminder that all the dots (even a high school fashion class) eventually connect, proving that you have to "do it terrified”. This episode is in partnership with the Australian Government. In this episode of the Black Magic Woman Podcast, I yarn with the deadly Amanda Sibosado, a proud Wardandi and Bard woman, PhD candidate, and long-time sexual health educator. Amanda joins me from Whadjuk Noongar Country to talk honestly about sexual health in our communities — from the gaps many of us experienced growing up, to why STIs like syphilis, chlamydia and gonorrhoea are on the rise. We break down what STI testing actually involves, why confidentiality matters, and why relying on symptoms alone can be risky. We also yarn deeply about shame — how it shows up, how our mob push through it every day, and how we can use that same strength to look after our bodies, have safer conversations, and support our young people. This episode goes beyond prevention and treatment, touching on healthy relationships, consent, boundaries, and the role we all play as parents, aunties, uncles and community. This conversation is for our young people, our families, and anyone who’s ever felt unsure or embarrassed about sexual health. Knowledge is power, testing saves lives, and our mob deserve culturally safe care. For trusted information and resources, visit health.gov.au/sti/first-nations.
