On y va ! This week on aBlogtoWatch Weekly, Ariel, David, and Ripley take the reins while Rick is away (Vacation? Sick? Secretly testing a smartwatch/tractor collab prototype?) And the conversation spins faster than a tourbillon on espresso. They roast Patek's new Cubitus (“Nautilus that went wrong?”), debate whether a $220K Greubel Forsey in steel is worth it for the mirror-polished backplate that mostly reflects your arm hair, and spar over whether watchmakers should run brands or leave it to the marketers. The trio dives into Geneva Watch Days tales of photographing grail pieces in suffocating, windowless hotboxes and gets lost in the Behrens x Vianney Halter KWH collab that somehow channels both energy meters and Nokia's “Snake” game. Toss in critiques of Hublot's dial-free Square Bang and admiration for Berneron's steel-armored platinum annual calendar, and you've got an episode full of horological heresy, genuine insights, and more oxygen-deprived giggles than a Swiss trade show should allow.

Welcome back to another episode of Fratello On Air. We've been on hiatus for the last month during the summer, but we're back in action! In this installment, we detail some of the places we've been and what we've seen. Cars and watches have been high on the list!Yes, it's been a while, but we're back together. This week's podcast is primarily about cars and watches at events in major cities. Next episode, we'll be back with a more hardcore topic, which will likely cover one of our listener suggestions. For now, settle in as we recall our travels and experiences.HandgelenkskontrolleBefore we get into watches, we begin our discussion about Ferrari's latest reveal. The 849 Testarossa is already proving to be controversial. It sparks a conversation about the difference between comments in social media about cars and watches. Regarding television, we discuss Mobland, Only Murders In The Building, Dexter: Resurrection, and The Sopranos. Then, Balazs mentions the recent sale of a Michael Jordan / Kobe Bryant basketball card that set a record at $12.9 million! For the Handgelenkskontrolle, Balazs is wearing the new Albishorn 1958 Marinagraph Paraíba Racing. Stay tuned for an upcoming hands-on review. Mike is wearing his Seiko SLA019, a 2018 release that marked the first ceramic bezel and sapphire crystal for the beloved Marinemaster 300.Watches and carsWe kick off our main topic on recent travels that included cars and watches with a recap of Geneva Watch Days. Sadly, Balazs didn't attend, but the releases were well-covered. Overall, the mood was somber because of the US tariff scenario. Brands were questioning the need and the expense related to two shows. The reveals were positive, especially from the smaller brands, but it was a quieter show overall despite more brands in attendance. Next, we discuss the 2025 Balkan Rally, which Balazs attended. The event kicked off in Budapest and ended five days later in Dubrovnik. Classic cars and watches were all part of the festivities. Finally, we head back to London, where Mike attended the Concours of Elegance hosted by A. Lange & Söhne. Once again, several of the attendees wore intriguing watches, but the cars were incredible. Of note was a lovely Singer Porsche. It was the first time Mike saw one in person, which followed his first visit to the Singer Reimagined headquarters in Geneva just two days earlier. We hope you enjoyed our return to the airwaves, and we look forward to coming back regularly. As always, if you have ideas for future shows, feel free to let us know.
On episode 10 of the SJX Podcast, SJX and Brandon Moore discuss the highlights and hands-on impressions from Geneva Watch Days, including the Greubel Forsey QP Balancier, Lange 1815 Tourbillon Black Enamel, Gérald Genta's new Minute Repeater, and the latest perpetual calendars from Audemars Piguet. We also discuss the significance of Tag Heuer's carbon hairsprings; after a short-lived launch in 2019, the brand has taken a mulligan and relaunched this technology with a key difference that might make carbon hairsprings a real alternative to silicon.Show Notes:3:20 - Berneron Quantième Annuel6:50 - Ferdinand Berthoud Naissance d'une Montre 38:30 - Greubel Forsey QP Balancier12:50 - Tag Heuer carbon hairsprings19:50 - Gérald Genta's new Minute Repeater24:45 - Lange 1815 Tourbillon Black Enamel27:30 - Roger Smith Series 631:20 - New perpetual calendars from Audemars Piguet Hosted on Acast. Send us a textThis week, Asher Rapkin returns to the show to talk about all things Geneva Watch Days, and independent watchmaking. Asher is the co-founder of Collective Horology, and co-host of the Openworked podcast. Collective Horology is an independently owned retailer that deals exclusively with independent watch brands, from Ming and Fears, to Czapek and Zeitwinkel. Asher and co-founder Gabe are serious watch enthusiasts that don't take themselves too seriously, and they represent one of the most exciting components of the industry. Fresh from Geneva Watch Days, the crew dives into highlights from the event. Fears Watch gets high marks for models that feel handcrafted without being too precious to actually wear. H. Moser, always the provocateur, is praised for its gutsy designs — though the point is made that telling the time shouldn't require a PhD in horology or a pair of binoculars. The Berneron Quantième Annual Calendar wins the day as a rare complication that's both clever and actually usable. Zenith takes the award for “coolest watch box we might keep forever,” and its latest designs feel like the brand is fully leaning into its moment. JLC's Master Grand Tradition is described as both brilliant and borderline overengineered, like a watch designed by someone who really wanted to impress other watchmakers. Other stops include the perfectly fine but “maybe too polite” Sinn 104 Classic, Singer's Caballero (a pricing curveball), and Vianney Halter's Messina Lab piece, which is either genius or something you'd wear just to confuse strangers. The episode wraps with giddy anticipation for A. Lange & Söhne's Richard Lange, which everyone agrees they want, price be damned.
This week on the Worn & Wound podcast, we're talking all things Geneva Watch Days 2025. Zach Kazan is joined by Zach Weiss and Devin Pennypacker to recap the event and the most interesting watches that came out of it. Before getting into the watches themselves, the group talks about their impressions of the event itself and its relative importance on the watch industry calendar. This was Zach W's first time at Geneva Watch Days (and Zach K's second), and the show itself is rapidly changing, so there's a lot to talk about on this front. While the releases at Geneva Watch Days aren't as splashy as the novelties you'll find at Watches & Wonders, there are still plenty of gems to be found, the event represents a great opportunity for small brands to get a ton of attention. That was really the case this year, as you'll hear Zach and Zach that some of the watches that most impressed them came from true indies (at all price points), like Behrens and Dennison. Let us know what you thought of this year's crop of Geneva Watch Days releases in the comments below. Summertime, usually a downtime in the watch industry, has been particularly busy this year. On this episode of Openwork, we're looking at three timely stories: A preview of Geneva Watch Days, the latest Swiss watch export data, and Richemont's most recent quarterly earnings. Taken all together, these current events demonstrate the watch industry isn't lacking for intrigue in the waning days of summer.
