6. Rick starts the show by referencing the preceding rant edited out of the produced show. To wit: The live show took on the gazillion emails the guys have been getting about which celebrity wore what watch at the Met Gala. But onto something more important — grammar! Whether you could or couldn't care less, that is the question. Now, down to some actual content. David's latest “Grinding Gears” column is all about the gap between watchmakers and the consumers who don't know what they're looking at. This divide causes some problems, as David explains. Ariel has a lot to say about this, especially regarding value. Next up? Guess the Price of the Seiko! Then, onto a discussion of the Seagull Okeanos release, which also results in a discussion of pricing and tariffs. Ariel asks, “Why are tariffs invading our hobby?” And that is the question of the day. Kevin Roberts joins the foursome to discuss the latest from Doxa, Breguet, and other brands. Tune in to hear the latest.

Enjoying our relationship with the Holy Spirit is one of the great privileges in a Christian's life, and we're taking the month of January to pursue a fresh sense of the Spirit's nearness, comfort, and power. This series was created by three churches: Soma Spokane, All of Life, and Doxa, 3 distinct churches with a shared theological and missional vision. Throughout the series, you'll hear from the lead elders of each church, offering a fresh and unified perspective on enjoying the work of the Spirit. Our hope is that our collective dependence on the Holy Spirit grows as we raise our expectations, envision what is possible with Him, and more fully anticipate His movement in the year ahead. This week we wrap up our series by looking at the normative operations of the Spirit through Paul's prayer in Ephesians 3.14-21.

Welcome back to another episode of Fratello On Air! This week, your hosts discuss the vintage watches currently tickling their collective fancies. Before that, though, there's plenty of banter about sneakers and watches. For your convenience, watch content starts after 20 minutes.Vintage watches are some of our favorite watches. We're always looking and thinking about what to buy next. In this episode, you'll hear about what has us searching auction sites and sale boards. We also discuss the vintage market and the watches that will become popular (again).HandgelenkskontrolleChristmas came early in Germany and England. Mike received his Nike Air Tech Challenge 2's via the eBay authentication program and Balazs received the latest Nike x Travis Scott shoes from StockX. We then discuss a recent watch event in London held by 289 Consulting with 25 brands including Raymond Weil, Krayon, Doxa, Artya, Favre Leuba, and more. These intimate affairs are refreshing and a nice way to see a lot of watches in one place. For the Handgelenkskontrolle, Balazs is wearing the soon-to-be-released Albishorn Air chronograph. We cannot say much about it, but it's a different take on a vintage aviator's chronograph. Mike is wearing a just-received 18K Movado Curviplan with a black dial. The watch came from France and was a buying adventure.Vintage watches on our radarFor our main topic, we discuss the vintage watches on our radar. You'll hear about Movado chronographs, Angelus, and Hungarian military watches from Balazs. From Mike, tanks, a nice early Heuer 2447 Carrera, and a later gilt dial Rolex Submariner or GMT-Master make the list. We then discuss the current vintage market and how simple dress watches have become popular. However, these watches have limitations such as a lack of popular, commonly known references. We also opine that '60s chronographs will make a slow return to prominence. Also, vintage Rolex sports watches such as the 5512 we just reviewed are beginning to awaken from a lengthy slumber. As always, thank you for listening to our latest episode. If you have ideas for future shows, please let us know.
Welcome to episode 173 of Grasp the Bible. In this episode, we continue our study in the Book of Ephesians, covering chapter 1:3-14 a doxology of praise to God. Today, we will cover:The Doxology: (vv. 3-14)The AuthorThe AudienceThe MessageKey takeaways:These verses are a beautiful doxology. A doxology is a short hymn of a verse of praise. It was a huge part of synagogue worship and is still a huge part of our worship services today. Doxalogy in Greek can be separated into Doxa – meaning glory and Logia – referring to an oral or written expression. So it is literally Paul's written expression of the Glory of God. These 12 verses are a single complex sentence where Paul pours out His praise to God the father.Within this passage we see God's, purpose, will, and working through His son. God's plan began before creation and is for all times and all peopleGod is the initiator and the source. Jesus is the means or the instrument that God uses to accomplish his work and plan. The Holy Spirit helps us and seals us until our glorification with God in Heaven. This message includes 8 of the many blessings that God gives believers full access to.Quotable:God the father is the ultimate source of all blessing and, therefore, the ultimate object of praise.God's ultimate plan is to bring together – to ultimately resolve – all things in ChristOur natural response when we learn who God is and what he has done is PRAISE!!What is our natural response when we learn who we are and what we have done? The depth of our need brings us to our knees and to the one we need.Application:We must get to know our God deeply. In doing so we learn about ourselves which drives us closer to Him.In doing so we become so overwhelmed with what he has done that we praise Him.In doing so we long to live in a manner worthy of what He has done for us.Connect with us:Web site: https://springbaptist.orgFacebook:https://www.facebook.com/SBCKleinCampus (Klein Campus)https://www.facebook.com/SpringBaptist (Spring Campus)Need us to pray for you? Church members, pastors, and elders agree - there are blessings and challenges when your church grows. In this episode of Doxalogic, Scott and Chris discuss what they've learned as Doxa has grown, and give practical advice to both church members and leaders on how to navigate growth well.
Our guest today is James Lamdin, co-founder of Analog Shift. After careers in outdoor equipment and cars, James started vintage dealer Analog Shift in 2012. A long-time watch collector, James turned his passion for vintage watches into a new resource for collectors and enthusiasts. You might know Analog Shift for its detailed watch descriptions, often with a bit of character, and perhaps you've even been lucky enough to visit its New York City showroom, a standby for local vintage watch lovers. In addition to Analog Shift, James is also the co-founder of the RedBar community. In 2020, Analog Shift was acquired by the retailer Watches of Switzerland. But Analog Shift has kept its character since then. Today, James is VP of vintage and pre-owned with Watches of Switzerland. When he's not talking vintage watches, he's drinking whisky, driving his vintage Porsche, and generally cosplaying as Magnum PI.James Stacey joins Mr. Lamdin and me to talk Doxa (of course), how the watch industry has evolved since Lamdin founded Analog Shift, neo-vintage watches, and his company's acquisition by Watches of Switzerland. The Depth and Restoration of Christ: The Gospel of John - Doxa John 17:1-26 Jared Osselaer | July 28, 2024
At long last, Fratello On Air has decided to address a request from one of our faithful listeners. The topic of font on watches has come up as a suggested topic many times. Does it sound mundane? Perhaps, but it couldn't be further from the truth. Our watch content begins after 15 minutes.Fonts are a characteristic of most watches that we rarely consider. Yet, it's one of those details that if done badly can ruin a watch. Today, we discuss the power of typeface and why it matters. We praise the brands that spend time making fantastic design choices and throw a few tomatoes at missed opportunities.HandgelenkskontrolleBefore we get to fonts, we open our episode with some discussion on the differences between saying, "half past the hour," in Germany and England. In fact, they translate to the same words, but mean something very different! Then, as we recorded this episode on the 4th of July, we brought up a gift that arrived earlier that morning from America. The Yeti Tundra 45 Patriotic Limited Edition landed in the UK. For the Handgelenkskontrolle, Balazs is wearing the Vulcain Rosaspina GMT, a limited edition of 85 pieces available on the Bergamo-based jeweler's website. Mike is wearing another Borgel-cased Movado reference 18127 from the '50s.Fonts on watchesOur faithful and committed listener, Saku from Finland, has asked us multiple times to discuss fonts on watches. Other topics have taken priority and, let's be honest, we were concerned about the ability to fill a show with the subject. We were wrong, though, because we had plenty to discuss. We begin the chat with academic research from Balazs and his contact, @danova from Instagram. This sets the stage for subtopics including our favorite mixed uses of font on a dial, best logos, and our least favorite examples. We mention the following watches and articles:The Rolex Submariner 5512 and 5513The Seiko J13035, J13040, and J13043Thomas' article on building a watch brand, Episode 8Our logo discussion mentions Eterna, Tissot, the Roamer Stingray, and Doxa's new and old fontsExcelsior Park's number designsOur least favorites include the modern Patek Philippe logo, the Tissot Heritage 1938, and the Blancpain Fifty-Fathoms 70th Anniversary Act 1, Series IIThank you for the suggestion, Saku, and we hope all of you enjoyed the episode! If you have any ideas for future shows, please send your suggestions.

In this episode of The Cordial Catholic, I'm joined by Brandon Eaves and Chris Kellam, two former Evangelical seminarians, to talk about how, as Evangelicals studying Scripture, they discovered the Biblical basis for the papacy and the Catholic view of justification. Brandon and Chris, two good friends with a great dynamic, explain how many of their misconceptions about Catholicism were dismantled as they looked into Scripture, the witness of the Early Church, and in the actual practice of the Catholic faith. How the papacy makes sense from Scripture and in our experience of Early Christianity. And how the understanding of justification by the Protestant Reformers isn't rooted in history – and how Protestants and Catholics are often saying the same things using different words when they talk about justification, salvation, and sanctification.Chris and Brandon have both been on the show to share their conversion stories.

Jackie Shane was one of soul's first Black trans performers. She was born in 1940 in Nashville but her incredible voice took her across North America. She found a home in Toronto in the '60s, performing sold-out shows almost every night. In 1971, Shane disappeared from the spotlight. When she eventually reemerged in the 2010s, there were still many questions surrounding her life and career. Michael Mabbott and Lucah Rosenberg-Lee's latest documentary, Any Other Way, tells the story of Shane's life.
In this DOXA Documentary Film Festival double-header, Sabrina Rani Furminger speaks with two filmmakers whose films are featured in the 2024 edition of the popular fest. Up first is Rachel Epstein, the filmmaker behind The Anarchist Lunch. The film is the story of a lunch – or rather, 35 years of lunches enjoyed each week by a group of ardent leftists who congregated in a Vancouver Chinese restaurant to discuss the important topics of the moment. Among them is Rachel's father, Norman. The Anarchist Lunch follows these revolutionaries over a period of several years, through the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic and during the unfolding of resonant global events. As some members struggle with personal health issues, Rachel's film takes on new layers to explore the meanings of activism, camaraderie, and growing old. Next up (at timecode 26:13) is Cindy Mochizuki, whose film Between Pictures: The Lens of Tamio Wakayama re-introduces viewers to the famed Vancouver photographer and activist who passed away in 2018. Tamio spent several years of his childhood in an internment camp, after being held with thousands of other forcibly displaced Japanese Canadians in cruel and dehumanizing conditions at Hastings Park – and after the internment ended in 1946, Tamio and his family moved to Chatham, Ontario, once the terminus for the Underground Railroad. And that remarkable beginning is only just that: the beginning of Tamio's remarkable life as a photographer and activist. In these two fascinating conversations, the documentarians discuss legacy, activism, and the joys and challenges of fact-based filmmaking. Episode sponsor: Fish Flight Entertainment

This week on the podcast, Zach and Kat are joined by Ed Jelley to chat about two of the biggest watch releases of the year so far: new divers from Seiko and a brand new white dialed Speedmaster Professional from Omega. These new watches generated a lot of buzz when they were unveiled within days of each other recently, and with Ed owning both a Speedy Pro and a prior version of the Seiko 62MAS influenced diver unveiled recently, we knew we had to get his take on both. Later, Zach, Kat, and Ed discuss their favorite watches under $1,000, inspired by a recent feature on the website.
