Rob and Zach's Switzerland adventures continue with a report from the Vaucher Manufacture, home of Parmigiani Fleurier, and as we would soon learn, many other very interesting high-end brands as well, confirming all suspicions that the *real* "watchmaker's watchmaker" crown might no longer reside in its traditional home of Le Sentier, but right here in the sleepy Swiss town of Fleurier.
Gabe and Asher kick off Episode 93 with news: Collective is now an authorized Ressence retailer. Then they get into the week's biggest story out of Geneva Watch Days 2026: Breitling's Gallet relaunch, its inherited distribution network, the debt behind the bet, and why it beats the usual sub-$5,000 heritage revival. The rest of the episode is Collective's annual rundown of the watches nobody else is covering: the Laurent Ferrier Classic Moon Dusk and its lumed double-moon phase, Singer Track's new V72 chronograph in gold panda dial, and the Atelier Wen x William Messina Inflection, a real collaboration with a Chinese-calligraphy and Arabic numeral dial. They close with three more: the Urwerk UR-1001 Amadeus, a one-of-one engraved pocket watch that tracks centuries and millennia; the Marco Tedeschi MT 1.1, a crownless skeleton tourbillon from the watchmaker behind Kross Studios; and the Fears Brunswick 39 Perpetual Calendar, built on a customized Sellita and Dubois Dépraz module. Gabe and Asher use it to make the case that movement choice, not movement brand, should determine a watch's value. The grand finale of our Geneva Watch Days 2026 content. We're talking Breitling's new Gallet brand and the thinking behind creating a more accessible entry point into the Breitling family,... This week on The Business of Watches, a fresh take on the new releases we saw at Geneva Watch Days and what they might mean for the market. Ahead of a special request summer fondue dinner, Tim, TanTan and Andy discuss what they saw, what they liked and didn't from the slew of novelties presented during the event. We go deep into the debut of Gallet, discussing how the entry-level offering from Breitling's House of Brands will stack up against the competition and how it will re-enter the company into the cut-throat $3,000 to $6,000 price category at a time when the Swiss industry is struggling to halt the slide in volumes. We also talk Bulgari, Oris, Frederique Constant, Girard-Perregaux, MB&F and the latest MADEditions, and why, when it comes to Doxa, you can't have just one. Plus, what the return of a new Northflag (now one word) heralds for Tudor. No one's ever recorded a podcast from the fabled Zenith attic – you know the one, where watchmaker Charles Vermot once hid away the tooling and materials used to make the El Primero movement, a rebellious decision that would ultimately save the company and cement his name in watchmaking lore. Today, Rob and Zach finally had a chance to climb the steps into the attic and record a very special episode following an enlightening day at the Zenith manufacture in Le Locle. Breitling relaunches Gallet on September 3rd. Openwork hosts Gabe Reilly and Asher Rapkin unpack Georges Kern's play: chronographs at 3,000–5,000 CHF, an exploration story aimed at Bremont, Longines, and Tudor, sold in Breitling boutiques. Plus Universal Genève and Breitling's return to Watches & Wonders. Then a listener question: how has working in the industry changed our collecting? It starts with selling nearly everything to help fund Collective Horology — what survived, what still stings (the Urwerk collaboration, the MB&F LM101, the Lange Odysseus), and rebuilding from an empty watch box. What came back is different: neo-vintage tool watches, Holthinrichs, Ming, Singer. Buying on the merits instead of the hype, why an Aquanaut lands differently outside collector context, and the freedom that comes from retailing independent watches. A grand reorganization of the luxury watch business is happening in front of us, and nowhere is it more visible than in the diverging strategies of two holding companies making opposite bets on the future. Gabe and Asher unpack the contrast between Breitling, which under Georges Kern has quietly reconstituted itself as a private-equity-backed challenger group — bulking up through the acquisitions of Universal Genève and Gallet — and Richemont, the industry stalwart now actively slimming down, shedding Baume & Mercier and quietly walking Montblanc away from serious watchmaking. The conversation digs into what each move actually signals. Universal Genève's relaunch with full collections at Vacheron and Jaeger-LeCoultre price points, distributed through curated Breitling network partners, looks like a textbook play for cross-shop market share at the high end. Gallet's entry into the brutal sub-$5,000 segment is harder to explain — unless you read it as Kern building a fully diversified holding company with a long-term IPO in mind, willing to plant a flag in a difficult category before the cycle turns. Richemont's behavior reads as the inverse philosophy: get fit, exit segments where the math doesn't work, and protect margin around Cartier and the houses that still command pricing power. Along the way, Gabe and Asher get into the JLC management buyout rumors swirling out of Geneva, why the Mark Newson Memovox travel clock is the most genuinely interesting thing the brand has done in years, what Monbtlanc's absence from Watches and Wonders actually means, and why the agility of a young holding company is a real strategic asset that the legacy giants can't easily replicate. Market share is up for grabs in a way it hasn't been in a generation — and the next few years are going to redraw the map. Openwork is a weekly podcast about how the watch industry actually works. We go up close and personal with Empire, Louisiana native Jordan Gallet, a US national oyster champion, who can shuck 36 oysters in under two minutes.
Georges Kern is emphatic. The Breitling Chief Executive Officer isn't slowing down on plans to expand his company's reach. Even as U.S. tariffs and economic headwinds challenge the industry, Kern is pushing ahead with planned launches of the Universal Geneve and Gallet brands in 2026. He's already orchestrated rapid growth and value creation at the historic Breitling marque since taking on the top job in 2017. Breitling was sold to private equity partners for less than a billion dollars that year. In late 2022, a change in majority shareholder valued the company at more than $4 billion, sources said at the time. But now with the industry facing a host of economic and political pressures, Kern's expansion efforts are being tested. In a candid interview, he says the luxury watch industry is poised for an eventual rebound. People won't delay purchases forever, he says, and when they're ready, he expects his growing stable of brands to have the right products to match the wants and needs of new clients. This episode of The Business of Watches is brought to you by Panerai. Fresh off the heels of Breitling's summer blockbuster release of the Superocean Heritage, the boys had a chance to sit down with Breitling's Global Head of Heritage Gianfranco Gentile to talk about the origins of this unique dive watch, and how it made such a lasting impact since its launch in 1957 – an impact that still persists, now with the launch of the newest Heritage line nearly 70 years later. Welcome back to another episode of Fratello On Air. This week, we discuss our feelings about revitalized watch brands. The retro trend has been strong for over a decade, meaning that long-dormant names have been brought back to life. Are all successful? Enjoy one of our lengthiest episodes yet. For our listeners, the watch content starts after 35 minutes. It's hard to think of a brand that hasn't returned to the market. For those of us who have collected watches for a long time, this would have been unimaginable 10 or 15 years ago. But are all revitalized watch brands a success? Hear our thoughts on the matter.HandgelenkskontrolleWe took a week off between episodes, meaning we have some catching up to do. Balazs mentions an upcoming Sotheby's auction featuring the first-ever jerseys from Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant. Mike talks about a recent 75th-anniversary event with Orient, and then it's on to a visit to the A. Lange & Söhne Berlin boutique, where Balazs spent two hours. We mention a recent evening at Phillips in London with amazing independent brands. For TV, we mention The White Lotus, Zero Day, A Murder At The End Of The World, and Adolescence. For the Handgelenkskontrolle, Balazs is wearing his Omega Dynamic 166.079 with a blue dial. Mike has chosen his Rolex Submariner 5513 "Maxi Dial" from 1979.Revitalized watch brandsFor our main topic, we discuss a small fraction of the existing revitalized watch brands. It's a timely subject with the announcement of Breitling's purchase of Gallet. We share our thoughts on the modern-day efforts of the following historic names:VertexNivada GrenchenBenrusExcelsior ParkAngelusUniversal GenèveKing SeikoA. Lange & SöhneAquastarYemaDennisonFavre-LeubeWe hope you enjoy today's lengthy show, and feel free to share your thoughts below on these and other reborn vintage brands. Also, let us know if you have any ideas for future episodes. Thanks for listening!

@fizz_ca Fizz. This week on the Worn & Wound podcast, we're drafting divers! Zach Kazan is joined by Zach Weiss and Devin Pennypacker to participate in a fun but ultimately fruitless exercise whereby they pick their favorite divers at three different price points: under $5,000, between $5,000 and $15,000, and over $15,000. It's always fun to play with fake money, and our panel picks a truly wide and sometimes strange selection of divers, from the common to the completely obscure and everywhere in between. Before they get into the diver conversation, Zach, Devin, and Zach discuss two of the bigger pieces of news to come across the transom last week, Rolex shuttering the Bucherer brand, and the news that Breitling is apparently set to acquire Gallet. This week onaBlogtoWatchWeekly, the only two usual suspects are Rick and David.Ariel and Ripley are in flight, or fleeing, or otherwise elsewhere. They are, instead, joined by semi-regular, non-suspect Azad and Kevin, and then surpriseguest, Leslie. All of the Euro-men are complaining about the weather ('tis therainy season in the UK, ya know). They get right down to business with adiscussion of the news that Rolex has retired its Carl F. Bucherer brand, andthere are various degrees of lament in the room. Next up, a look at Breitling'srevival of the Gallet brand. The guys muse about how they'll position thesewatches. Then, they discuss Ariel's most recent column in his absence. He asksthe question, "Are Swiss luxury watch brands engaging consumersenough?" The new game, which seems to have taken off, ensues:Judge theCollab. Fun! But where did fan-favoriteHit, Miss, Maybe go?And will it ever return?

Today's guest is a true legend. Fred Savage is an actor, producer, and director, best known for his roles in front of the camera in The Wonder Years and The Princess Bride after getting his big break in a commercial for Pac-Man Children's Chewable Multi-Vitamin. He's also a watch collector who I've seen get excited about vintage Gallet, Patek, and everything in between. You might also recognize Fred from his 2018 Talking Watches episode. Since then, he's become a fixture in the vintage watch world, and I always look forward to crossing paths with him at shows, auctions, or meetups. Ben Clymer also joins the show, and we discuss Fred's evolution as a collector since his Talking Watches episode, some of his more offbeat finds, and how watches have become something for the whole family in the Savage house. The emblematic agency Leclercq Associés, after the issues #19 and #20 of Season 2 that we have just re-broadcast, returns to Com d'Archi for Season 4 for a series of podcasts, with guests and themes of its choice. Today, with this new episode of the series (started in Season 3) dedicated to the Leclercq Associés agency, we put online a focus on the subject of Offsite, a synthesis of the interview published in French with the example of the Avon high school.Offsite is an industrial and architectural practice which is in vogue today, and of which Pascal Chazal is the worthy French representative. The Leclercq agency is also strongly representative of it. Moreover, it is currently delivering a high school whose boarding school is built off-site (Hors-Site in French) in Avon, in the Ile de France region, a feat of having relied on this practice, which is still in its infancy in France, on the occasion of a public contract. In this issue of Com d'Archi, you will find, as is customary, the story of the protagonists' careers and the history of the projects. But above all, you will discover the stakes of this practice, which stems from modular construction, and which will undoubtedly make it possible, in the future, to increase quality by significantly reducing construction costs while facing the shortage of manpower. Magic or a tangible story? But what exactly is it? And what about the environmental aspect of it all? Find out in this new edition of the Com d'Archi Podcast!Image teaser DR © Com d'Archi PodcastSound engineering : Julien Rebours___If you like the podcast do not hesitate:. to subscribe so you don't miss the next episodes,. to leave us stars and a comment :-),. to follow us on Instagram @comdarchipodcast to find beautiful images, always chosen with care, so as to enrich your view on the subject.Nice week to all of you ! In French in this CDA S4#3 (Monday online), "Hors-Site" (or Off-Site), an interview of Delphine Altier, Charles Gallet of Leclercq Associés office and the guest Pascal Chazal - In English in CDA S4#4 (Wednesday online), "Hors-Site", a summary of the best ideas discussed in the interview. Welcome to another episode of Fratello On Air! This week, we're excited because we're recording from the same room and we're in London. In fact, we're in the Square Mile! Today, we're talking about vintage Excelsior Park watches, movements, and the related brands that used the movements. Enjoy this vintage deep cut!Together again! Balazs has made the voyage from the continent over to Blighty and we've decided to record an episode before heading off to the year's last Time4APint get-together. We've been looking forward to this evening for a while and we promised to each bring watches that relate to a certain theme. Well, that common thread is Excelsior Park and we've brought along a number of related watches.Handgelenks KontrolleBefore getting to the main topic, we hit upon a little news. Both of us are sporting the Adidas Homer Simpson Stan Smith editions and mention how comfy they are on the city streets. We also bring up a well-written article about the Jaeger-LeCoultre Memovox by Charlie Dunne of Wind Vintage. As far as the Handgelenks Kontrolle, Balazs is wearing his new go-to watch, the Ming 17.09. Mike has brought along his treasured Patek Philippe Calatrava 570.Excelsior Park and friendsNext, we get to the main topic around Excelsior Park. We've assembled roughly 15 watches for the night's gathering and we run through them all to some degree. Excelsior Park was a watchmaker and movement maker and created the EP4/40 line of manual wind chronograph movements. We happen to think that they're some of the smoothest and sweetest operators ever. We've brought along Excelsior Park branded watches, Gallet, Sinn, and Zenith pieces that all used similar cases, dials, and movements. A collection of similarly styled Gallet watches has come along for the ride, but they use Valjoux calibers because Excelsior Park had gone defunct. Finally, there's the big Excelsior Park Monte Carlo, a strange '80s concoction that simply uses the once-famous name. For good measure, Balazs has brought along a couple of Angelus pieces. We hope you enjoyed today's episode. As always, thanks for listening, and feel free to share ideas for future shows!
