CONTACT AMYThe Wednesdays With Watson Podcast is honored to bring Amber Cullum, host of Grace Enough Podcast to our microphone. Amber has a message for all of us. "You don't have to have the Amy Watson story to experience trauma that needs to be addressed and has consequences". Does trauma occur in seemingly healthy, two parent families? Amber does a great job of helping us understand trauma as it occurs in two parent, in tact, "culturally Christian" homes. "sometimes we can know why they feel because we hold space for people who don't believe like we do."--Amber CullumAmber shares this podcast's mission and that is to provide Hope for those who feel like their trauma doesn't matter because it's not "the Amy Watson story". We understand that not all listeners share our faith in Jesus. However, it is important to provide a safe place for people to process trauma. We often move through life believing the pursuit or goal is to achieve a "beautiful" life experience, and that somehow a good life means it's devoid of particular fractures or pain. We approach beauty, or a good life, as though it's absent of what's messy. Feeling beautiful and good on the inside somehow makes us think we should be absent of baggage, or complication. However, we see in the Word of God this amazing dichotomy of Beauty residing right alongside Brokenness. God chose very broken individuals to usher in the Savior of the world... in today's episode, my guest Amber Collum and I dive into how beauty and brokenness are meant to co-exist and can show us even more the mercy and power of God to use us, work in us, and move despite us. Even as kids we are taught to compare and contrast. It's actually a necessary and important discernment activity. But, it can get tricky when it becomes the scale by which we measure our success or even unhealthy if it begins to define who we are. In this episode, Annie talks with Amber Cullum, host of Grace Enough Podcast, about what comparison really is and how we can think about it differently to leverage it for good. Most of the advice we hear about dealing with the comparison trap is focused on our mindset ...valuing our own unique gifts and experiences, not comparing our beginning to someone else middle. In Episode6 of Just One Simple Thing, we'll talk about some practical steps we can take, and the healthy way we should compare ourselves to others.Key Points:Looking at other people to see how you measure up can kill your inspiration and drain your motivation. You SHOULD compare yourself to others who are successful, not as a way to measure up, but learn what they are doing and how you can apply it to what you are doing.Be careful who you look at. Watch people who are mature in their faith and have similar values as you.Enter prayerfully- Ask God to protect your mind and heart as you study what someone else is doing.Take inspiration but don't copy.God has given you a unique vision of your dream, so filter what you learn through your vision and make it new and fresh.Stay within your strategyWhen you someone else's success, it's tempting to dump everything you are doing and change directionsShow gratitude- write her a note to let her know how much you love what she is doing and what you have learned from her.Comparing yourself to others does not have to become a depressing, de-motivating pity party. If done prayerfully and with the right attitude, it can be inspiring and energizing as you incorporate fresh ideas that have proven to be effective. If seeing those things day after day sucks the life out of you and puts your mind in an unhealthy place, it's okay to unsubscribe, unfollow, or mute them. It's a smart way to protect your mental health and a practical way to help you stay in your lane.Action Steps: Now time for your one simple action step. Inspired Life This week, podcaster and speaker Amber Cullum (Grace Enough Podcast) shared how she went through rebellion in her early teens and then discovered how Jesus could make all the difference when she was in college. Through a campus ministry, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, she built relationships with friends who played a significant role in helping her find the path to biblical truth. In this episode, Amber talked about how our before and after stories are really a daily thing, not a spectacular event that we look back to. Each day we choose to be a kinder, more loving, more obedient, and more faith-filled person than we were the day before. @import url(https://michellerayburn.com/wp-content/plugins/siteorigin-panels/css/front-flex.min.css); #pgc-w5fd15e2f02fec-0-0 { width:100%;width:calc(100% - ( 0 * 40px ) ) } #pg-w5fd15e2f02fec-0 , #pl-w5fd15e2f02fec .so-panel , #pl-w5fd15e2f02fec .so-panel:last-child { margin-bottom:0px } #pg-w5fd15e2f02fec-0.panel-no-style, #pg-w5fd15e2f02fec-0.panel-has-style > .panel-row-style { -webkit-align-items:flex-start;align-items:flex-start } #panel-w5fd15e2f02fec-0-0-0> .panel-widget-style { padding:0px 20px 0px 20px } @media (max-width:780px){ #pg-w5fd15e2f02fec-0.panel-no-style, #pg-w5fd15e2f02fec-0.panel-has-style > .panel-row-style { -webkit-flex-direction:column;-ms-flex-direction:column;flex-direction:column } #pg-w5fd15e2f02fec-0 > .panel-grid-cell , #pg-w5fd15e2f02fec-0 > .panel-row-style > .panel-grid-cell { width:100%;margin-right:0 } #pg-w5fd15e2f02fec-0 { margin-bottom:px } #pl-w5fd15e2f02fec .panel-grid-cell { padding:0 } #pl-w5fd15e2f02fec .panel-grid .panel-grid-cell-empty { display:none } #pl-w5fd15e2f02fec .panel-grid .panel-grid-cell-mobile-last { margin-bottom:0px } #panel-w5fd15e2f02fec-0-0-0> .panel-widget-style { padding:10px 10px 10px 10px } } Life, Repurposed About Amber Cullum: Amber Cullum is the host of Grace Enough Podcast.
