Join the hosts as they take you through all the news from around the world and across the UK. In this week's show, we have an update on the pilot that crashed the Hawker Hunter at the Shoreham airshow back in 2015, Southwest Airlines says goodbye To Its 'Bags Fly Free' policy and an Air India flight returns to Chicago after a passenger clogs a toilet with clothes and a blanket. Still, saves on loo roll I suppose, albeit a somewhat industrial way of going about things! In the military, we look at an article that claims that insufficient pilot resource is nonsense as all operations have enough aircrew according to the RAF, and US air force B52 bombers fly close to the Russian border for their latest mission out of RAF Fairford. "Reconciliation happens when my enemy tells me my story and I am able to say: ‘That is my story" - Stanley Hauerwas. 11 September 1973. Military forces attack La Moneda Palace, the Hawker Hunter plane launches rockets that hit the main wings of the building, fire echoes through the streets of Santiago, the body of President Salvador Allende is found. In this episode, Dr Vinicius De Carvalho talks to Francisco Lobo, Chilean lawyer and PhD candidate at the Department of War Studies, about the violation of human rights, the strides made in transitional justice and international accountability, and how the dictatorship continues to permeate Chile's fragmented identity.

After we mentioned it in last weeks episode we thought it only right to repeat our Audacious Aviation Podcast and 2020 interview with Hawker Hunter pilot Alan Pollock. A brand new TLG episode will be dropping next Tuesday.

In 1968 during an Airshow to commemorate the Royal Air Force one pilot by the name of Allan Pollock decided that he was unhappy with the bureaucratic fat cats in London who felt the RAF funding was excessive. 1st Wing Historical Centre Base Lt Col Avi Charles Roman Rue Longue, 1320 Beauvechain

This week's special guest created his own legendary moment in April 1968, when he flew his Hawker Hunter fighter jet through Tower Bridge in London. Flt Lt Alan Pollock of No1 Sqn RAF, was incensed that as defence cuts bit ever harder, the RAF was denied a flypast to mark its 50th anniversary. So Pollock decided to let the Government of the day know just how he, and many others felt, by buzzing Westminster before heading off down the Thames at zero feet and about 400 miles an hour. It’s an extraordinary story, and his various capers during his time with the RAF are the stuff of legend. Needless to say Alan is a most engaging character.
Every so often our imaginations are fired by someone doing something extraordinary, something so audacious that it’s cemented into folklore. Our latest podcast, ‘Aviation’s Most Audacious Feats’ touches on some of the most outrageous escapades ever to unfold, from the fearless wingwalker of the 1920s who changed an aircraft’s wheel in mid-air, to the brilliant and heroic life-saving exploits of a Royal Navy helicopter crew in the Falklands Conflict. Some of the stories had us spellbound, while others had us rolling around with laughter. Our special guest managed to do both those things, by telling us how he created his own legendary moment in April 1968, when he flew his Hawker Hunter fighter jet through Tower Bridge in London. This episode runs a little longer than usual, but we hope you’ll forgive us, it’s just that the stories were too good to cut. So be amazed and be amused in equal measure. And remember Alan Pollock’s full interview will be available a week after our main episode drops.
If a pilot fails to attain set parameters, as demonstrated by Andy Hill at the Shoreham Airshow in 2015, catastrophe awaits. Mr Hill was flying a Hawker Hunter jet when it crashed into a dual carriageway killing 11 people. In court a verdict of not guilty to the charge of Manslaughter by Gross Negligence was found by the jury.We can all learn from the need to have parameters in our own lives, to plan ahead and to give ourselves boundaries. In this video I talk about the importance of parameters, why pilots adhere to them, the verdict itself and what the defence's claim of 'cognitive impairment' actually means. I also cover my own experiences of cognitive impairment and those of a friend of mine who died in a fatal crash in 2011 and the subsequent investigation into his death. If a soldier is a military combatant that fights on land, and a sailor is one that fights on sea, then what is a 'fighter pilot'? On this inaugural episode, U.S. Navy ( https://www.navy.com/index.html ) Commander Brian “Sunshine” Sinclair visits the show to discuss what a fighter pilot is, some characteristics typical of most fighter pilots, and the various paths ( https://www.usa.gov/military-colleges ) to become one. We also debunk cliché Hollywood stereotypes while discussing what a fighter pilot decidedly is not. Towards the end of the show we discuss a few of the jets used in civilian organizations, including the F-21 Kfir ( http://www.atacusa.com/f_21_kfir.html ) and Hawker Hunter ( http://www.atacusa.com/mk_58_hawk_hunter.html ) flown by ATAC ( http://www.atacusa.com/index.html ) , the Super Tucano ( http://www.builtforthemission.com/ ) , and the L-39 Albatros ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aero_L-39_Albatros ). Chuck Yeager, one of the most famous test pilots in US aviation history, takes listeners though the development of the rocket-propelled Bell XS-1 / X-1 in which he became the first man to fly faster than the speed of sound in level flight, including taking us through the test flights and politics of the X-1 flight programme. Yeager also discusses the flight tests of the X-1a, Northrop X-4 Bantam and McDonnell F-4 Phantom, then discusses some of his contemporaries in the test pilot seat, including working with Neville Duke on the Hawker Hunter. Yeager finishes off by talking about the Lockheed F-104 Starfighter altitude record and training astronauts to fly the machine. The interview took place in 1979 and was conducted by Rodney Giesler and was edited by Mike Stanberry MRAeS.
An Interview with ex-RAF fighter pilot Phil Keeble. He talks about his flying career focusing mainly on the Hawker Hunter and English Electric Canberra.
February 1956 and the RAF is proud of it's fine new jet fighter, the Hawker Hunter. Ready For Takeoff - Turn Your Aviation Passion Into A Career
Nick Anderson, perhaps better known as the Old.Pilot is the oldest of the Airline Pilot Guy Podcast crew and not too far from retirement after a flying career that started in the ‘60s. Brought up in England and from an aviation family, he began flying in the wood and canvas, open cockpit gliders of the Air Training Corps. He started his professional career in the military, the Royal Air Force. He completed jet training on the Jet Provost, Folland Gnat and the Hawker Hunter before getting into the awesome McDonnell Douglas F4 Phantom, eventually becoming a Qualified Weapons Instructor. His military career moved around a bit and he spent a while as a fast jet QFI on the BAe Hawk before taking up a post with the Royal Australian Air Force on the F18 Hornet. Back with the RAF he completed his time on the BAe Tornado F3. Captain Nick is now an international Captain on the A-340 with a UK airline referred to as "Acme Red". Hi is also an accomplished photographer.
