ORIGINAL AIR DATE: December 1st, 2016Sleep paralysis can be defined in several ways. In terms of the experiencer, it can be described as "a visitation by a malevolent creature which attacked its victims as they slept" (Cox). More clinically, sleep paralysis is understood as "a transient, conscious state of involuntary immobility occurring when falling asleep or upon wakening" (Cheyne, 2002). Research into sleep paralysis has produced compelling evidence that the phenomenon can be explained by brain chemistry and physiology in conjunction with REM sleep. But is that all there is to it? Yksi maamme kansainvälisimmistä taiteilijoista on tekstiiliteoksistaan tunnettu Kustaa Saksi. Hypnopompic-teossarjan teokset taas vievät katsojan unenomaisiin hallusinaatioihin. Millä tavalla Kustaa Saksi kokee todellisuuden eri tasot? Miten oma kotikaupunki Amsterdam on vaikuttanut hänen luovuuteensa? Kustaa Saksin teokset ovat syntyneet perinteikkäällä jacquard-kudontatekniikalla. Uusimmissa töissään taiteilija on tehnyt yhteistyötä tekoälyn kanssa. Millainen on gobeliinien historia? Mikä on ominaista jacquard-kudontatekniikalle? Miten Kustaa Saksin teokset sijoittuvat kuvakudosten kaanoniin? Ohjelman vieraina ovat Kustaa Saksi ja taidehistorioitsija Leena Svinhufvud. Ohjelman juontajana on Pia-Maria Lehtola.

LIGHTSPEED MAGAZINE - Science Fiction and Fantasy Story Podcast (Sci-Fi | Audiobook | Short Stories)
Thomas’s first encounter with the alien was terrifying. It happened in his bedroom. Thom was attempting to get to sleep at the time, after a long Friday night that had extended into early Saturday morning. Alcohol was involved, and a little pot, but nothing natively hallucinogenic, not unless someone slipped him something. Nothing that could explain the appearance of someone who wasn’t supposed to be there. | Copyright 2021 by Gene Doucette. Narrated by Stefan Rudnicki.
Join the TV Doctor as we graciously invite the poltergeist that was 2020 to stop haunting us. Our last episode of the year asks us to consider past, present, and yet to come, just like ya boy Scrooge (Dickens or Duck, take your pick). You'll be visited by three shows that speak to apparitions of atonement: The Umbrella Academy, Angel, and The Crown. Here's to a more meaningful haunting, and a happier future! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/tv-doctor/message
It’s been just over 100 years since the first traffic light appeared. Early traffic lights weren’t automatic but operated manually by a police officer in a booth next to the road. At first, there were only red and green lights. The yellow light didn’t come into use until the 1920’s when officers noticed that drivers needed an interval of time to be able to slow down in order to clear the intersection. The first fully electronic traffic light was installed on the corner of Euclid Avenue and East 105th Street in Cleveland, Ohio in 1914. But stoplight technology has evolved over the decades into sporting energy-saving LED’s and being controlled by traffic management computers. A Korean company is working on a traffic light that displays news headlines to keep drivers from looking at their cell phones at a red light. What’s a word for that fuzzy state of almost falling asleep while waiting at a traffic light? Hypnopompic.
Co-host Jenn Dorrell joins the show for the first time. She talks with Dean Bertram about her many intriguing paranormal experiences, from childhood to the current day. This video takes a look at the process behind producing one of Kustaa Saksi's Hypnopompic rugs at the Textiel Museum in Tilburg. Saksi realised ‘Hypnopompic’; a series of eight vivid large-scale tapestries. Hypnopompic means the dreamlike state of consciousness filled with illusions that can occur between waking and sleeping. The brightly coloured pieces combine recognisable creatures and organic designs with surreal visualisations. A wide range of natural and synthetic materials, from viscose, lurex and metallic yarns, to alpaca wool and mohair, add extra depth. The wall hangings on display have all been developed and produced in the TextielLab. textielmuseum.nl
