"The Army of One" is by far the most reflective, somber, and inconclusive season finales of The Sopranos so far, and yet it's a quiet, unsettling masterpiece. Chris, Paul, & Jordan discuss how this episode simultaneously closes the emotional threads on Season 3, but also leaves many intriguing possibilities for Season 4. A lot happens in this hour, but the big questions that loom over the head of our favorite Jersey Mob boss in this episode have no easy answers: How has the life Tony leads affected his children? Can Tony and Carmela save AJ from the catastrophic fate met by Jackie Jr and the many other doomed young men we've met on this show? Can Meadow reconcile her own sense of morality when she, more than anyone else, is able to recognize the hypocrisy and "bullshit" of the family she was born into? This finale wrestles with these questions in a beautiful and satisfying way, while also providing no solid answers. Plus! Shenanigans with Janice, more great work from Joe Pantoliano as Ralphie, the return of a healthy Uncle Junior, sneaky business from Johnny Sack, and we get to meet Paulie's adorable mother! All this and more, just as soon as we almost drown in three inches of water at the penguin exhibit... Ho Ho Ho! It's a Sopranos Christmas special! (Sort of). Chris, Paul, and Jordan break down "To Save Us All From Satan's Power" in which Tony, Paulie, and Silvio struggle through their first Christmas without Big Pussy. There are some truly fascinating moments in this hour in which our characters learn that that day on the boat, and the years preceding it, will continue to haunt them one way or another. Also this episode, Bobby gets a new job, Tony scratches items off his list, including vengeance on the Russian that beat up Janice, and Jackie Jr. "bottoms out". This is the spiritual "sequel" to Season 2's "Funhouse" episode, and we couldn't be more excited to discuss it, right after we gift our Dads a Big Mouth Billy Bass...     TheSopranosPodcast@Gmail.com @TheSopranosPodcast - Facebook & Instagram @SopranosPodcast - Twitter

What Do You Know, What Do You Say to Joe Gannascoli? In just six short seasons, Pod Yourself A Gun has gone from the only Sopranos podcast to the only Sopranos podcast to get an interview with the actor who played Gino in season one episode eight, “The Legend of Tennessee Moltisanti.” Remember? Christopher cuts him in line, and he gets all huffy about it? The actor's name is Joseph R. Gannascoli, and you might also remember for his other work in the series, as the character performing the most surprising felatio history of television, Vito Spatafore. In the latest Patreon-exclusive edition of PYAG, Matt and Vince talk to the man who played the man who killed Jackie Jr., lost a bunch of weight, got caught lassoing leather daddies, and ate Johnny Cakes in New Hampshire. During the conversation, Joe reveals how much of his own life was incorporated into the character, the book that inspired Vito's gay storyline, and who the biggest ballbusters were on set. Along with all the inside dirt on The Sopranos cast and crew, the conversation covers Joe's fascinating journey from self-taught chef and self-proclaimed degenerate gambler to self-taught actor to golfing dad with two christmas trees. Happy New Year! This week, Chris, Paul & Jordan analyze Michael Imperioli's second outing as a writer with Season Three's "The Telltale Moozadell".  On the surface this is a much quieter episode than we've been getting, but it's just brimming with intrigue and growing tension! Jackie Jr. steps up his role in both families, and things heat up in a big way between Tony and Gloria after a sensual date at the Bronx Zoo. All while AJ acts up in school, again. Will there be any consequences, other than a hilarious scene at a pizza parlor? Plus! Melfi sees through Tony and Gloria's lies, and she's none too happy about it. All of this, and lots of talk about Edgar Allen Poe, the Happy Birthday song, and the deluge of self-serving gift giving that permeates this episode. Coming up, right after we vandalize a swimming pool and order a custom pizza...    R.I.P Peter Bogdanovich!

Merry Christmas everyone! This week, Chris, Paul, & Jordan keep in the spirit of the holidays by dissecting the exciting season three episode "He Is Risen", centered around Thanksgiving. The rivalry between Tony & Ralphie is the talk of North Jersey and something has to give. Things escalate even further when Johnny Sack "sticks his beak in" to try and settle the beef. While this is happening, Meadow and Jackie Jr. seem to be fanning the flames of attraction. Amidst all this, we also get an unexpected character death, a great Junior scene, and the debut of several fascinating new characters. How does Thanksgiving play out in a show where all the characters are longing for something they don't currently have? And what is the deal with the attractive and sophisticated Gloria Trillo from Globe Motors? All this and more, just as soon as we throw a grape at a narcoleptic...   TheSopranosPodcast@Gmail.com @TheSopranosPodcast - Facebook & Instagram @SopranosPodcast - Twitter   * We experienced a few technical issues during the recording of this episode. Huge episode for Christopher Moltisanti! He finally becomes a Made Man! Chris, Paul, & Jordan break it down, along with the rest of the Season Three classic "Fortunate Son". This hour of television sees AJ become a star football player, Jackie Jr. becoming a wheelman, crucial flashbacks to a traumatic day in Tony's life, and Christopher learns that being a "made man" aint all it's cracked up to be. Great Melfi scenes, great mob action, and great family drama - this episode delivers it all! It all points to a sad and stark reality for the world of The Sopranos, and that is: There really are no "Fortunate Sons" in this lifestyle. This is not a universe that is kind or nurturing to its young men. PLUS, the Meadow, Noah, and Tony situation escalates! This week Michael and Steve are joined by the incredible and talented Annabella Sciorra (Gloria Trillo). Annabella’s role of Gloria was one of the most memorable characters on the series and she was nominated for an Emmy for her performance. Annabella talks about how she got her start in the business, how she landed her first big role in True Love and her early days with Aida Turturro. Then she talks about her incredible time on the Sopranos. Originally she read for another role but she fell in love with the character of Gloria. At first David wanted Gloria to look more like Melfi but Annabella said No No No…She went with a much more alluring look and it worked. Tony was drawn in like a moth to a flame. She shares a great story about how she may have gone a little too far in a fight scene with James Gandolfini. Then Michael and Steve get onto this week’s episode which is absolutely fantastic. It's like a masterclass in acting as Annabella and Jim deliver some of the best performances of the series. Gloria is pushing Tony to the limit. Jackie Jr makes the worst decision of his life and Carmella is questioning everything. David Chase always liked to make the 12th episode of a season a big one and this does not disappoint. This episode is so good, it’s a cliché to bring it up. As Jack points out during the podcast, saying "Pine Barrens" is your favorite Sopranos episode is like saying Michael Jordan is your favorite basketball player. It’s not a bad choice but come on - try to surprise me. If you haven’t seen it in a while, you might remember this Steve Buscemi directed episode as the one where Paulie and Chris get lost in the woods. What you might not remember are Gloria’s London broil toss and Jackie Jr.’s Scrabble prowess. If last week’s episode was a reminder that The Sopranos is a soap opera, this week’s episode is a reminder that it is also a sitcom, because it’s got jokes. Are some of the jokes too sitcom-y? Vince says yes. I say VA FANGOOL, Vince. What happened to Valery? Don’t ask David Chase. What is the geopolitical significance of Paulie’s satin finish manicure? Listen now to find out. The episode reminds us that being in the mob is just as much about petty social slights as it is about doing crimes. There's lots of gossiping, someone gets their feelings hurt over a declined drink invitation, and someone else gets uninvited from Thanksgiving dinner. So, it’s kind of like Thanksgiving with your family, until someone shits himself to death, and then it's just like your family. Naturally, watching the episode led to some conversations about how families in Jason's neighborhood settle disputes with their stepdads, the chainsaw bear carvings industry, how to get someone so horny they turn into a dairy product, and a Saved by the Bell Mashup song. From Sopranos to Sick Kids - Everybody misses Tony, Big Pussy, Paulie Walnuts and the gang from the Sopranos. Interview Joe Gannascoli, who played hit man Vito Spatafore. You know Vito, he's the guy that whacked his own cousin Jackie Jr. at the end of season two and who shocked us all with some very un-mafia like sexual behavior in season five. Joe's latest role is as spokesman for Bright Steps, a nonprofit organization that provides funding for intensive pediatric therapy to financially disadvantaged children with neurological disorders such as cerebral palsy, disabilities of prematurity, autismand other congenital or acquired conditions. Rob McConnell will ask Joe about this new, important endeavor and why he's involved.

Back when we started this crazy Sopranos rewatch podcast all those year ago, "Knights In White Satin" was exactly the kind of episode we had in mind. Episode 12 of season two, this one really is one of the greatest Sopranos episodes ever, easily a top fiver. It introduces all sorts of new and interesting characters, from Jackie Aprile's son Jackie Jr. to Irina's cousin, the one-legged chain-smoking Svetlana (one of my favorite characters in all the Sopranos canon) whose boyfriend romantically picked her up off the floor at the Gap store. But for the most part, episode 212 is an entirely self-contained miniature movie, with fully developed plotlines, complete character arcs, big twists, and satisfying resolutions. I bet you didn't think Richie and Janice's wedding was going to turn out like that, did you! If you're a Sopranos virgin looking for one episode to get you hooked, check out this one, I'm friggin' tellin' you over heah. As always we have your hosts, comedian Matt Lieb from Newsbroke and film and culture critic Vince Mancini from Uproxx, and we also welcome sportswriter Dave Schilling (ESPN, Bleacher Report, The Ringer, The Guardian), currently of the Full Court Chat podcast. We go through every plotline in Bada B Stories, countdown our favorite scenes, and explain those bits you may have missed. We hope you enjoy it, but in case you don't, va fongool. Don't forget to give us a five-star review on Apple Podcasts, and please, say hi to your mothers for me.

Despite the pressure of unpacking one of TV's greatest episodes, Val and Alex do their best by talking about how communication, camera movement, and the passage of time tie together the various story lines. Also Meadow and Jackie Jr's scrabble game, the backstory behind hunter Bobby, inverted paintings, Chechens and Czechoslovakians, Chris' sophisticated grasp of the Cuban Missile Crisis, and Pine Barrens as a metaphorical world.    Alex and Val (Obsessive Analysis) dive into the deeper issues of The Sopranos episode by episode immediately after watching.  New episodes come out Mondays and Thursdays at 2:30pm.  Email us at inattheendpodcast@gmail.com and please rate and review!

With uncharacteristic use of broad comedy, awkward staging, and scenes that feel just a little too long, “The Telltale Moozadell” is not one of Season 3’s finest hours. Despite its shortcomings, Gavin and Hannibal agree that this episode still has interesting moments - particularly in relation to the evolving dynamic between Tony and Jackie Jr.
