The Stand, if you don't know, is Stephen King's epic story of the a deadly viral outbreak and the battle for humanity's future that happens after 99.9% of the world's population is wiped out. Good versus evil, light versus dark, this is a top to bottom banger from the master of horror.
Outwardly, the Runic alphabet, like any other writing system, was developed as a method of communication. However, this week's guest, Dave Schilling, details how some white-power prison gangs, Neo-Nazis, and racial extremists are using these ancient symbols to promote their beliefs.Spawning from his career in corrections, Schilling's book, Norse/Germanic Runes & Symbols: Field Reference Guide for Law Enforcement & Corrections, illustrates how some white supremacist groups have adopted rune characters as coded messages that foster their ideology in plain sight.Visit www.betweenthelineswithvirtualacademy.com for more info about this episode. He has worked in the Criminal Justice Field since 2006 as a Correctional Officer, Security Threat Group specialist, and gang instructor. His specialties are the use of the Runes & Norse Pagan symbology used by white supremacist groups, criminal intelligence processes, and alternative religions/beliefs, such as radicalized Asatru & Odinism, Christian Identity, and various occult topics. He is the author of “Norse/Germanic Runes & Symbols: Field Reference Guide for Law Enforcement & Corrections.” https://amzn.to/3zHME3yDavid talks about the history, differences, and ideology associated with different runes. He will also help us to learn how to identify when runes are being utilized for gang use instead of legitimate religious use. Remember when Lin Manuel Miranda was on The Sopranos? Remember when writer and LA Times Style columnist Dave Schilling was on the pod during season two to talk about “Knights In White Satin Armor?” Remember how great that was? This week on the pod, Matt and Vince welcome Dave back for a conversation about The Sopranos season 6a, episode 3, “Remember When.” Remember when Richie Aprile ran Beansy over? Well despite pooping in a bag for the rest of his life (to Paulie's horror), Paulie and Tony find him in Florida, living a pretty good life. After Tony's first body becomes unburied, he and Paulie bounce to the Panhandle State to lay low for a while. While on their little vacation, Tony is embarrassed to remember how cool he used to think Paulie was, while Paulie can't stop remembering what happened to Big Pussy the last time he was on a boat with Tony. Remember when Tony says, “‘Remember when' is the lowest form of conversation?” That was this episode. The famous clip from the Remember When Machine segment bumper. During the segment, Dave, Matt, & Vince remember when Tila Tequila was a budding triple threat, but they do not remember any of the other early social media stars listed in the New York Post's “Nine Hottest Celebs on the Web” article from 2007. Today we continue our series of Underdog Tales, highlighting some of the greatest upsets in sports history. This episode, we're doing something a little different, and discussing one of the craziest upsets in the history of pro wrestling: Brock Lesnar's defeat of The Undertaker at Wrestlemania XXX! Joining us to share his expertise is podcaster and former WWE writer, Dave Schilling. Succinctly describing who The Undertaker is... well, that's a difficult task. Whether he's an undead zombie, a gothic superhero, or a biker dude, he was a legend in the world of wrestling for years and years. Standing at 6'10 and wearing plenty of eyeliner, the Phenom was famous for his finishing move, the Tombstone Piledriver. Starting in 1991, The Undertaker was undefeated in his Wrestlemania matches. 21 times in a row. An achievement known as "The Streak." Then Brock Lesnar showed up. A monster of a man, this former college champion wrestler rose quickly in the WWE, becoming the youngest champion ever, before giving it all up to try playing football. When he returned to the ring, he star once again rose quickly. A clash between the rising star and the legend of yore was inevitable. And so, at Wrestlemania XXX in 2014, things came to a head. And not everyone was happy with how things went down. Listen in to hear what happened.
On Episode 8 of X-Ray Vision, Jason Concepcion and Cody Ziglar have a latte with The Riddler! In The Omnibus (42:36), Jason continues his exploration of the ‘deadly games' genre to further analyze the economic and sociopolitical ideas behind Netflix's smash hit Squid Game. Next, writer & podcaster Dave Schilling drops by this week's Hive Mind (58:59) for an astute conversation around what makes HBO's Succession the best show on TV & why we love the Roys despite their awful behavior. Dave Schilling is a writer, a comic, a journalist, and will argue with you about whether he is actually the last two things. He writes for the New Yorker, and writes an amazing fashion column for the LA Times. He's also a James Bond expert and, between the two of us, knows who the NEXT ONE SHOULD BE! This ep was taped from a hotel room in Fort Worth, Texas and it made my day. Friend of the show Dave Schilling, who writes about sports, culture and style joins, talking about his work on "Black Renaissance: The Art and Soul of Our Stories," which premiered on YouTube, Friday. What makes the celebration of the arts and Black culture so critical? He talks about the genesis of the idea, and what it was like working with so many talented comedians and musicians in the midst of a pandemic. From there, it's Damian Lillard and what makes him so much fun to watch (though not as fun as Steph Curry, Schilling contends) and the much ballyhooed sweater game of Lakers star Anthony Davis. Also, are shoulder pads back? And who should be wearing them? And where are we on Coming 2 America? Is it a good thing Eddie Murphy is playing 183 characters in a movie again?

Monday on the Late Night Happy Hour, Dave Schilling (@Dave_Schilling) joined the show for a great hour-plus covering all sorts of things... Just how good is Jared Goff? Dave's answers didn't please every fan. The Clippers and Game 7... what happens if they lose, and how much fun will Lakers fans have trolling them? Who wins a Lakers/Clippers series? Finally, we've talked restaurants, sports, entertainment and more, but never about what happens to the fashion world in post-COVID world. Schilling explains, and then gives four critical pieces of advice for people to follow if they want to look good.

In the series two finale of Full Court Chat, Dave takes time out of his busy schedule of walking on a secluded bike path for 15 minutes every day to speak to Stanley Purchase (Demi Adejuyigbe: Gilmore Guys, The Good Place, Late Late Show With James Corden), boy wonder and teenage NBA superfan. Little Stanley loves the NBA so much that he drank gallons and gallons of Sprite and checking hundreds of bottle caps in order to win a contest to be the only fan in attendance during the NBA bubble. You might not see Stanley on the ESPN or TNT broadcasts, but he's there. He's always there...taking notes for some reason. Stanley says the NBA is hiding a dark secret that only he has uncovered. The truth could bring down the entire sport. Can Dave save the day...or will his ankle bracelet explode first? Smith (Jacquis Neal: Culture Kings podcast) and National Basketball Players Association Executive Director Michele Roberts (Niccole Thurman: A Black Lady Sketch Show, Shrill, The Opposition With Jordan Klepper). Stephen and Michele debate sex in the NBA bubble, player safety, LeBron James's political activism, and, oh yeah, all those cameras in the hotel rooms Dave won't shut up about. The Oura Ring, called the "key to finishing the [NBA] season" by Sports Illustrated, is the wonder device that athletes can wear to find out if they have symptoms of COVID-19 during the NBA's bubble season. Through the magic of journalism, Dave Schilling (journalist) secured an interview with the inventor of the Oura Ring, Dr. Lavan British (Laci Mosley: Scam Goddess Podcast, Single Parents), who explains why she created it and some of the more remarkable applications for the device. The Oura Ring can detect signs of COVID infection, but did you know it can also tell if you're cheating on your wife? The Future Is Now, and Dave Schilling is 100 percent balls deep in the future. The Lakers are gunning for their 17th NBA Championship during this wild bubble season. At the center of that historic chase is J.R. Smith (Josiah Johnson: Comedy Central's Legends of Chamberlain Heights), a player best described as the Mr. Bean of the NBA. Instead of practicing, J.R. is sneaking weed into Disney World up his butt and falling asleep during media availabilities. Utah Jazz center Rudy Gobert (Carl Tart: Comedy Bang Bang, The Good Place, Brooklyn Nine-Nine) is a man of many talents: basketball, wine connoisseurship, playing Zelda, etc. But did you know he also loves open-mouth kissing strangers? This is one of the many shocking revelations in this week's episode of Full Court Chat. Dave remains inside the NBA bubble, thrilling to the hot basketball action while also trying to stay alive. After all, there's still a bomb strapped to Dave's ankle set to go off in the event he comes within six feet of an NBA superstar. If he gets too close to Rudy, who wants nothing more than to cough directly into Dave's mouth, it could be "game over" for our hero.
