This week we explore two movies where danger comes not from a stranger, but someone much closer to home. First, Julia Roberts must escape the “Husband from Hell” in SLEEPING WITH THE ENEMY (1991). Then we encounter the “Nanny from Hell” in Curtis Hanson's THE HAND THAT ROCKS THE CRADLE (1992) starring Rebecca De Mornay, Annabella Sciorra, Matt McCoy and Ernie Hudson.

TBAA (as our listeners are well aware by this point) is a famous y2k era TV drama where a Greek chorus of angels inflict themselves upon humans going through moral crises. In this episode, a genetic scientist named Dr. Conover (portrayed by Annabella Sciorra who notably plays Gloria Trillo in THE SOPRANOS) is desperate for a child to call her own, so she fuses her personal longings with work and decides to give birth to a baby cloned from Albert Einstein. This doesn't sit right with our favorite angels, Monica, Tess, and Andrew, who see human cloning as sacrilegious means for humans to “play God.” Monica becomes a bioethicist to monitor the doctor closely; meanwhile Andrew and Tess go back in time to tend to the dying Albert Einstein in his final days of life, to show Dr. Conover that even a brilliant man like her idol Einstein would be conflicted by the harmful effects caused by his life's work. Like most TBAA episodes, “The Face of God” takes a hard ideological stance using incredibly convoluted evidence written by humans and delivered by fictional angels as a means to completely eschew narrative continuity and moral consistency. But UNLIKE most TBAA episodes, this one is the origin of the character Gloria (Valerie Bertinelli) who is by far our favorite angel and is created by God out of thin air in this episode as a “flex” by humans for wanting to make cloned animals. Did you think it was one word?Today Matt, Todd, and our neighbor to the North - Logan, discuss the 1997 crime-thriller Cop Land.Cop Land, directed by Louis Mangold has an outstanding ensemble cast:Sylvester Stallone in a rare dramatic turn; polarizing to some (loved by us)Harvey Keitel, Ray Liotta, Robert DeNiro, Peter Berg, Robert Patrick*, Michael Rapaport, Annabella Sciorra, Noah Emmerich*, and Janeane Garofalo.Respected by most critics when it emerged on the scene in 1997, and with some critical buzz for Oscar nods, Cop Land... landed with noise in August of '97 but seemed to have been quickly forgotten. Paul and Erin review two films about vengeful stalkers out to destroy seemingly picture-perfect households: Martin Scorsese's pulpy 1991 drama CAPE FEAR, and Curtis Hanson's 1992 domestic thriller THE HAND THAT ROCKS THE CRADLE. Music: "Stalkin'" by Duane Eddy
I've got jungle fever, Jules got jungle fever, we've got a new Snipes, it's JUNGLE FEVER Snipes has a wife and a young daughter. But? He's got a new secretary. And it's Annabella Sciorra. So what's a guy to do??? The correct answer is nothing, but I'm ugly so I don't really know about temptation like that. But the actual interesting parts of the story are John Turturro and his racist acquaintances (just kidding, everybody is racist in this) and ol Sammy Jack's himself as Gator, a crackhead who even has a song and dance about being a crackhead. How will things go for everyone? Great probably, right? Will Halle Berry put some parts in her mouth for a small sum? Will Sciorra's dad beat the f*ck of of her for dating a ______? Will Snipes have to cover his mouth and nose while searching through a trap house cause Holy sh*t there's lot of cocaine smoke in the air? And what's gonna happen to dear Gator? Spike Lee? Rules. Catch up on the rest of the Snipes filmography, and then treat yourself to episodes covering so many movies from Billy Crudup, Radha Mitchell, Keith Gordon, Ray Liotta, Robert Longstreet, John Cazale, Brad Pitt and Brandon Lee. Also? Spookies. That's right, there's even Halloween episodes.

To hear more, visit smokeempodcast.substack.comMarried journalists Ann McElhinney and Phelim McAleer are the forces behind “The Harvey Weinstein Trial: Unfiltered” podcast, in which actors read daily excerpts of the courthouse testimony verbatim. Released during the trial in 2020, it's an extraordinary document of a cultural flashpoint, providing a far deeper and more troubling portrait than most media coverage did at the time. Nobody was shocked when Weinstein was slapped with a 23-year sentence, but it seems many people were when that conviction was overturned on Thursday, April 25.Not Ann and Phelim. “This is of course not any surprise at all us, and to any of you who've been listening,” McElhinney said during the “special news breaking episode” recorded yesterday, “We Were Right - Weinstein Case Collapses.” Catherine A. Christian, a former prosecutor in the Manhattan DA's office, was also unsurprised. “A number of us were expecting that it probably would be reversed if there was some sort of intellectual honesty,” she told Politico Magazine.”You don't want to make bad law for bad defendants.”Few people followed this case as closely — or produced the kind of hard-hitting journalism as Ann and Phelim. Listeners may recall Sarah's beloved holiday tradition for three years running: She listens to all 23 episodes of the podcast, which is very weird, although Ann called it “the most precious compliment I've ever had.” McElhinney and McAleer join Nancy and an awestruck Sarah to discuss “the silence of the laptops” in the courtroom, why actress Annabella Sciorra should never have been on the witness stand, the transactional nature of Hollywood relationships, and whether Weinstein will be tried again in New York. Strap in!Support Ann & Phelim at The Unreported Story Society. Anyone in or around New York City is invited to McElhinney and McAleer's latest project, October 7: In Their Own Words. In this episode of the show, we are talking about Spike Lee's Jungle Fever, a dense societal diorama that begins with a premise of an elevated screwball rom-com and descends into deep and heavy thematic deliberations on race, relationships, drugs and familial sins. Over the course of our conversation you will hear us talk about Spike Lee finding his footing as a cinematic preacher, workplace racism, Wesley Snipes and Annabella Sciorra owning the screen, and Samuel L. Jackson spreading his wings. We also talk about how men and women talk about their sexual relationships differently, the NYPD response time being incredibly quick when it is convenient, and how many people can one reasonably expect to dwell in a single crack house. In 1998, he produced What Dreams May Come with Robin Williams, Annabella Sciorra, and Cuba Gooding, Jr. On January 3, 2018, my wife and forever love Lauren suddenly passed away in her sleep. She was only 54. Six weeks later, Lauren began to communicate with Stephen…and in October 2018, they started writing the book "What Dreams Have Come: Loving Through The Veil". ACTING IN FILM AND TELEVISION SINCE 1964. Early Film roles included, "What's so Bad about Feeling Good," Opposite Mary Tyler Moore and "The Godfather," opposite James Caan. After Lou's father's (The Notable Character Actor, Lou Martini) death in early 1971, Lou's mom decided it was best for him to take a break. It wasn't until attending The University of Houston that Lou took up acting again. Although, the "bug" for acting had been dormant it had never left. After graduating with a BA in Communications, Lou landed a leading role in the smash off-broadway show "Tony and Tina's Wedding". Since then Lou has consistently appeared on stage, in Television and Film. Lou's latest TV credits include Guest and Recurring Roles on such hit shows as, HBO"s "The Deuce" opposite James Franco, "Sneaky Pete," opposite Giovanni Ribisi, "Crashing", "Vinyl", "Orange is The New Black", and "Girls". One of Lou's most recognizable characters was the loveable eye glass doctor "Anthony Infante" on the last season of HBO"s "The Sopranos," which garnered the cast a SAG award nomination for best ensemble. Another notable TV credit was as host for one of the first network reality shows, "The Gastineau Girls."Some of Lou's last film roles include, "Alto" opposite Annabella Sciorra, "West End," Opposite Eric Roberts, and "Redemption," opposite James Macaffery. Lou won the prestigious best actor award at Nation's 4th biggest film festival Houston World Fest, for his portrayal of a down on his luck theatre director...and devout nudist...in the dark comedy "Suicide Notes." Lou is set to produce and star in 2 of his original screenplays, the first called "Honor" sometime next spring - an 80's drama that centers around a family of cops driven by secrets, torn apart by lies, longing for a way out but bound by Honor. Ultimately a story that searches for redemption in the depths of our darkest secrets while finding ones true identity. The second, a dark comedy about a down and out Elvis Tribute Artist with an overbearing mother, and kooky girlfriend sidekick.Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/quidditasfactor)

Yellowjackets director and producer Jamie Travis joins me to talk about the 1992 "lady thriller" The Hand That Rocks the Cradle. Annabella Sciorra, Rebecca De Mornay, Ernie Hudson, Matt McCoy, and Julianne Moore star in this wild, upsetting, and incredibly entertaining movie about a psychotic usurping nanny.

On this episode of ActorSpeak, Austin Basis continues to speak with actor Goya Robles (Get Shorty, POWER Book III: Raising Kanan, 11:55, Brut Force, Rattled!) In Part 2, we discuss the crossroads of abuse and trauma, his mentor Ellen Burstyn, not being killed off on Get Shorty, working with director Adam Arkin, his self-critical nature, rehearsing more to reduce the "noise," working with Javier Molina, chemistry as a willingness to receive, experiencing truth, going towards the uncomfortable, LatinX buying power and representation, humanizing "villains," feeding his acting compulsion, and his dream of opening an acting school for inner city youth. A Stamford, CT native, Goya Robles is a Lifetime Member of The Actors Studio and holds an MFA from The Actors Studio Drama School at Pace University in New York. A Latino actor of Puerto Rican and Ecuadorian descent, his portrayal of heartbreaking, volatile, vulnerable characters have become a stamp in all of his work. Goya is most recognized for his breakout role as Yago in the critically acclaimed series Get Shorty on EPIX, working alongside Ray Romano and Chris O'Dowd. He has starred in numerous independent films, including a supporting lead role as Teyo in the film 11:55, starring John Leguizamo, David Zayas, and Julia Stiles. He's also executive produced the short film WONDER, which won over 20 national and international film festival awards, including the HBO Shorts Competition at the Martha's Vineyard African American Film Festival and the Audience Award at Urbanworld. Most recently, he produced and created the art film Who Am I? - a spoken word piece about race and responsibility. You can see him in the upcoming films Brut Force, Rattled! and High Ceilings, and the TV series POWER Book III: Raising Kanan on Starz. Goya's theater credits include The Actors Studio West production of THE MOTHERF*CKER WITH THE HAT by Stephen Adly Guirgis in LA, EXTREMITIES by William Mastrosimone, and CRYSTAL CLEAR by Phil Young, both at Dance New Amsterdam Theater in NYC. He also starred in the LAByrinth Theater Barn Series of Mark Borkowski's play, VALENTINO'S WING, starring Michael Shannon, Annabella Sciorra, and directed by Ellen Burstyn. Goya is also the creator of Paint The Mic, a performing and visual arts collaboration which brings attention to local organizations whose mission is to support under-served communities. As a spoken word artist himself, Goya created a way for artists of diverse disciplines to use their craft as a way to directly impact communities in need. Goya also taught slam poetry at The Lee Strasberg Institute in West Hollywood and his first compilation of poems was called Spit My Soul and released at the Nuyorican Poets Cafe. What strikes me most about Goya's work besides his talent are his heart and authenticity. But it's his artistry that really shines through in everything he does- whether on stage, on screen or as a poet and producer. As both an actor and an advocate he is able to speak the truth, taking his pain and perspective and channeling them into his art. That's what The Actors Studio is all about, and Goya is one of the members that best exemplifies that. On this episode of ActorSpeak, Austin Basis speaks with actor Goya Robles (Get Shorty, POWER Book III: Raising Kanan, 11:55, Brut Force, Rattled!). In Part 1, we talk about Al Pacino in Scent of a Woman, hip hop, Def Jam Poetry, studying with Elizabeth Kemp, the core wound, shadow work playing Raul in Extremities, almost leaving school, using animal work, making urgent choices, the importance of therapy, the Idiot Workshop, working too hard, living his truth, always learning new things, being in the question, the "fuck it" stage, and his epic audition for Get Shorty. Rocky. Rambo. Sheriff Freddy Heflin. If you haven't seen Sylvester Stallone's turn as the sheriff of Garrison, NJ, then do yourself a favor and have a listen. Cop Land is the movie where Sly shows off his incredible and subdued acting chops, and it is a pleasure to talk about his character work opposite one of the greatest assembled casts of the 1990's: Robert De Niro, Harvey Keitel, Ray Liotta, Robert Patrick, Annabella Sciorra, Cathy Moriarty, Michael Rapaport, Janeane Garofalo, Peter Berg, Method Man, Frank Vincent, John Spencer, Eddie Falco, & oh my goodness we can go on! And we do! Because director James Mangold put together a cop drama with a dash of police corruption, a sprinkling of noir, and a tablespoon of Western. The concoction that results is the strongest movie in Stallone's filmography since the original Rocky and First Blood. Take a listen, or else, as De Niro says, “You blew it!”

Ah Rebecca! Comment as-tu pu être engagée comme nounou? Ah Annabella! Tim with Nurse Tracy in progress Tim Okamura investigates identity, the urban environment, metaphor, and cultural iconography through a unique method of painting - one that combines an essentially ‘realist’ approach to the figure with collage, spray paint and mixed media. The juxtaposition of the rawness and urgency of street art and academic ideals has created a visual language that acknowledges a traditional form of story-telling through portraiture, while infusing the work with resonant contemporary motifs. Born in Edmonton, Canada, painter Tim Okamura earned a B.F.A. with Distinction at the Alberta College of Art and Design in Calgary, Canada before moving to New York City to attend the School of Visual Arts in 1991. After graduating with an M.F.A. in Illustration as Visual Journalism, Okamura moved to Brooklyn, New York, where he continues to live and work. Tim Okamura - a recipient of the 2004 Fellowship in Painting from the New York Foundation for the Arts – has exhibited extensively in galleries throughout the world, including the U.S., Canada, Italy, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Ecuador and Turkey, and has been selected nine times to appear in the prestigious BP Portrait Award Exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery in London, England. In 2006, Okamura was short-listed by the Royal Surveyor of the Queen’s Picture Collection for a commissioned portrait of the Queen of England. In 2013, the University of North Carolina hosted a retrospective exhibition of Okamura’s work that focused on nearly a decade of production. Okamura received an invitation to The White House in the Fall of 2015 to honor artists whose work addresses issues of social justice – there he received a letter of commendation from Vice President of the United States, Joe Biden. Okamura’s painting titled “I Love Your Hair” was selected in 2016 for inclusion in the “American Portraiture Today” exhibition, featured at the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery in Washington, D.C. and subsequently toured museums across the United States. Several of Okamura’s works were recently featured in the “Still I Rise” exhibition at the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art. Tim Okamura’s art is on display in the permanent collections of the Davis Museum at Wellesley College, Jiménez Colón Museum in Puerto Rico, The Sonja Haynes Stone Center for Black Culture and History at the University of North Carolina, The Alberta Foundation for the Arts, the Toronto Congress Center, the Hotel Arts in Calgary, Canada, and Standard Chartered Bank in London, England. Collectors include Uma Thurman, Meg Ryan, John Mellencamp, DJ Black Coffee, Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson, athletes Courtney Lee and PK Subban, director Ben Younger, and actors Bryan Greenberg, Hill Harper, Annabella Sciorra, and Spike Lee. This week Michael and Steve are joined by the incredible and talented Annabella Sciorra (Gloria Trillo). Annabella’s role of Gloria was one of the most memorable characters on the series and she was nominated for an Emmy for her performance. Annabella talks about how she got her start in the business, how she landed her first big role in True Love and her early days with Aida Turturro. Then she talks about her incredible time on the Sopranos. Originally she read for another role but she fell in love with the character of Gloria. At first David wanted Gloria to look more like Melfi but Annabella said No No No…She went with a much more alluring look and it worked. Tony was drawn in like a moth to a flame. She shares a great story about how she may have gone a little too far in a fight scene with James Gandolfini. Then Michael and Steve get onto this week’s episode which is absolutely fantastic. It's like a masterclass in acting as Annabella and Jim deliver some of the best performances of the series. Gloria is pushing Tony to the limit. Jackie Jr makes the worst decision of his life and Carmella is questioning everything. David Chase always liked to make the 12th episode of a season a big one and this does not disappoint. Tony Soprano finally realizes he’s a mofo in this week’s Pod Yourself A Gun. Matt and Vince are joined by Matt Christman from Chapo Trap House to talk about The Sopranos season 3 episode 12, "Amour Fou." Alternate title: "Suicide by Capo." Jackie Jr. makes a move in an attempt to show he’s got balls big enough to get the respect like Scarface, but he should have stayed in watching Basic Instinct with his bro. Listen to the podcast for a non-exhaustive list of all the movies that feature a Sharon Stone nude scene. There are a lot. As far as I know, she’s never done a seductive dance to a song by Little Steven and the Lost Boys (with lead singer Steve Van Zandt aka Silvio Dante), but Annabella Sciorra does in this episode. She deserves some kind of award for convincingly pretending to love that song. Did Tony's mom ever dance like that? Is that how realized he was hooking up with his mom? Our Western civilisation essentially goes back to ancient Greece. But yes there is Egypt, Sumeria and Anatolia in Turkey. However, Bill starts with the 'Fates' that were embedded in Greek & Roman Mythology, the three goddesses who preside over the birth and life of humans. Each person was thought of as a spindle, around which the three Fates (Clotho, Lachesis, and Atropos) would spin the thread of human destiny. We need to remember the word 'psyche', the ancient Greek word for Soul. This translates to a psychiatrist being, essentially a Soul Doctor - however in Western medicine Soul has been lobotomised out of the medical vernacular. Science does not educate us in the spiritual realm as - if it cannot be measured and quantified, it does not exist. If we go to Wikipedia - (which sadly is not the resource it could be) there are on earth today 7.8 billion humans of which ‘supposedly’ these numbers below show, that: 2.4 billion are Christian 1.9 billion are Moslem 1.2 billion are Hindu 0.5 billion are Buddhist .394 Million are China Traditional and 1.2 billion Secular[a]/Nonreligious[b]/Agnostic/Atheist https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_religious_populations So with Christianity and Islam betwen them - there are 3.3 billion adherents who would beleive that they are going to live beyond this mortal life. That in scripture in the first book of the Bible in ‘Genesis’ we learn about ‘soul’. That Hindu and Buddhist also believe in an afterlife solely because they (like other minor religions and sects) believe in an essence / consciousness that leaves one body and after a time enters the baby of another human body. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Afterlife So there is a very considerable number of humanity who believe in a soul essence that inhabits the human body. That is most definitely spiritual in nature and that science does not want to utilise the vast number of 25,000 universities planet round to further research this perennial doctrine that has been embedded in all world religions, beliefs and cultures. Yet, there are now thousands of recordings over the last hundred years of 'Out of the body' and 'Near Death' experiences everywhere on planet earth. Even doctors and professors and hard core atheists have experienced them - however the ‘medical establishment’ only sees the human body as a physical machine made of flesh, bone and organs. So they still refuse to take this step. Science has made up its mind that ‘nothing’ exists. This subject of ‘out of the body’ and ‘near death experiences’ is one of the more divisive questions on earth. For there are many who have been brought up to believe that we are only a body that has evolved by chance via Dawinian evolution. This idea consolidated when science later added on the fluke of the big bang bringing all into existence. Even God was taken out of the equation. That when we reduce the human body down to its constituent components you will find no evidence whatsoever of a soul or a spirit. The non theist - better known as an atheist will argue and battle this subject out even though people who have OBE and OTB experiences can tell you what their parents were doing, wearing and saying - even though they lived in another country at that exact time - they will argue vehemently that it is all a hallucination and that these ‘other’ facts don't matter. For some unknown reason the disbelievers will in most cases not give up until they expire on their last out-breath. Though we did not cover this in any depth at all, Bill mentioned that C S Lewis said - we don't have a soul - we are a soul - to which I heartily agreed and when looking for this quote on the web, I find that C S Lewis never mentioned it - so we apologise for this. Here is the link: https://www.firstthings.com/blogs/firstthoughts/2014/01/the-spiritualist-origins-of-you-dont-have-a-soul-you-are-a-soul Tim mentions that we are being dumbed down as a society and a civilisation and that we are seeing the censorship of information - even that of the distant past is increasing, and it is hidden in plain sight. For example the Bible which was supposedly first written 3,400 years ago. See at the end of each quote that the word mutates from 'Soul' - to 'Being' - to living ‘Person’ - then to 'Creature.' With such a rapid change in description, will the next iteration become a - 'robot? I jest - however I trust you get the gist. www.kingjamesbibleonline.org › Genesis-2-7 The Bible "And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul." www.biblegateway.com › passage › search=Genesis 2:7 Then the LORD God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being. Genesis 2:7, KJV: "And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living person." Genesis 2:7 NKJV - And then the LORD God formed the man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living creature. https://www.bibleref.com/Genesis/2/Genesis-2-7.html Because of time constraints we did not cover anything from both Vedic and Egyptian writings. Though in the Vedas they mention Soul, because Ātman is a Sanskrit word that means inner self, spirit, or soul, being in the Hindu philosophy. Shaman and medicine men in indegenous cultures also believe in soul as their whole cosmology is grounded in this notion. A search for ‘sole’ on the web brings up: the spiritual or immaterial part of a human being or animal, regarded as immortal. emotional or intellectual energy or intensity, especially as revealed in a work of art or an artistic performance. The only Hebrew word traditionally translated "soul" (nephesh) in English language Bibles refers to a living, breathing conscious body, rather than to an immortal soul. This is interesting, because even Albert Einstein did not speak of the soul, unless it was in generic terms. What Bill focussed on was, what are the virtues of a soul and Bill talks of James Hillman - who has much to say on the soul https://thesunmagazine.org/search?search=james+hillman&with=section%2Ccategories%2Ccontributors&useShould=true&type=article Have a listen to what he says ... However in relating to today reality Bill says that the human species have in so many ways has lost its moral compass. He explains this … listen Also, Transhumanism comes up - that people who don’t believe in souls and eternal life are doing their best to build computers / robots so as to ‘house their consciousness’ - see Ray Kurzweil of Google to get an understanding. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ray_Kurzweil Bill also mentions that we are in a shift of consciousness that is happening and there is a huge cycle that we are all enmeshed in and that by 2027 we will see changes that we have not planned for. Listen There was much in this interview, Bill speaks of the challenges the human race has found itself in and offers up a way for us to heal our being. This healing Bill says is very important if we as a society are going to resolve our differences, and become well. The words karma and past lives come into this conversation - so I do suggest that you listen - it is only a 20meg download. What comes across is Bill’s duty of care and concern - he says that Bach Flower remedies are very good ways to heal our emotional realm and bring us back into our true self. Bach flower remedy tinctures - healingherbs.co.uk We also need to constantly remember that “we are spiritual beings having an earth experience”. There is an old First Nations saying that you can hear of in America - of an old Cherokee teaching his grandson about life. “A fight is going on inside me,” he said to the boy. “It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves. One is evil – he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.” He continued, “The other is good – he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith. The same fight is going on inside you – and inside every other person, too.” The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather, “Which wolf will win?” The old Cherokee simply replied, “The one you feed.” So it is imperative that we have the ‘correct’ thought, right words, and right actions - as we chart our course in life. Captain Edgar Mitchell, 6th man on the moon had this to say ... Screenwriter Raul Inglis (AMERICAN HEIST w/Adrien Brody, SUDDENLY w/Ray Liotta) joins the show to discuss James Mangold's cop drama, COP LAND, featuring a cast so absurdly stacked it's tough to write all their names in this summary - Sylvester Stallone, Harvey Keitel, Ray Liotta, Robert DeNiro, Peter Berg, John Spencer, Malik Yoba, Janeane Garafolo, Noah Emmerich, Frank Vincent, Edie Falco, Annabella Sciorra and Michael Rapaport. As he's done at various points throughout his career, Stallone reminds us of what a true top-notch actor he can be when given the right material. Mangold affirms his status as one of our best living filmmakers. This is a great movie, period, and it's greatness has only increased in the years since it was released. --- This episode is sponsored by · Charity Promotion: HeadCount: The goal of this initiative is to increase voter registration and encourage your listeners to get the vote out during the 2020 General Election this November. https://www.headcount.org/ Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/dan-benamor/support

In this week's episode of the Whole Truth with Jill Rosensweig, Attorney Rosensweig is providing a detailed analysis of the sexual assault and rape charges that Harvey Weinstein faced and exactly what he was convicted of (and what he was not). Attorney Rosensweig describes the allegations that were made by Miriam Haley, which resulted in a conviction of 1st degree Criminal Sexual Assault and compares them against the allegations of Annabella Sciorra, which could have resulted in the most serious conviction of predatory sexual assault but did not. Why did the jury believe Miriam Haley's story but they presumably did not believe Annabella Sciorra's? Their stories are strikingly similar so what led to this inconsistent result? Attorney Rosensweig reviews the strengths and weaknesses of both claims and provides various theories for you to consider so that you can decide for yourself. And, while most feel the result of this trial is a huge victory, are you frustrated with the fact that Harvey Weinstein was not convicted of predatory sexual assault when approximately 80 women have come forward with allegations of sexual assault, rape and/or sexual harassment against him? Attorney Rosensweig discusses all of this and more in the 40th episode.
On Thursday the jury heard the defense's closing argument. It lasted all day with attorney Donna Rotunno arguing that movie producer Harvey Weinstein is the target of a movement and that the jury is the last ling of defense against an overzealous media. Rotunno argued that accuser Annabella Sciorra relabelled a "crazy" consensual encounter and become a part of a movement to boost her flagging career. Rotunno also reminded the jury that Sciorra originally denied being attacked by Weinstein when she was asked by Ronan Farrow in 2017. She also attacked the credibility of Jessica Mann, one of Weinstein's main accusers, saying that the former aspiring actress "reframes" her positive emails and interactions for the jury. Rotunno further argued that in the emails between Mann and Weinstein, Weinstein showed himself to be a kind and caring friend to Mann. She added that in all the email traffic between him and his accusers there is no suggestion that he assaulted any of the women - all the emails are friendly. Day 3 of the Harvey Weinstein trial was filled with drama and surprises! And there was another celebrity witness today with the appearance of Oscar nominated actor Rosie Perez - she was the witness who almost didn't appear. The defense fought to keep her out of the courtroom but the prosecution argued just as vociferously that the jury should hear her evidence. Her evidence was damaging for Weinstein in that it backed up some of Annabella Sciorra's testimony from the previous day. Dr. Barbara Ziv, a forensic psychiatrist, also gave evidence. She was called by the prosecution to explain to the jury why Weinstein's alleged victims would continue contact or have friendly or even romantic relationships with the defendant even though they had been raped by him. Her theories are controversial and it remains to be seen whether the jury will be convinced by Dr Ziv. And just at the end of the day there was another celebrity witness. Kara Young, a former New York model, gave evidence. Young's major claim to fame was that she dated a Mr Donald Trump for two years in the late nineties. She told the court that when at an Oscar watching party in March 1994 she notice Annabella was acting strangely and was jittery and that there were long cuts on her upper thighs and that she asked Sciorra if she had been cutting herself. The testimony from Day 3 is quite compelling and we hope you enjoy the third installment in our series. On the second day of the trial against Harvey Weinstein, actress Annabella Sciorra, known for her role as "Gloria Trillo" in The Sopranos, gave evidence claiming she was raped by the movie mogul in the early 90's (although she cant remember which exact year). Sciorra is not part of this case against Weinstein as her allegations fall outside New York State's statute of limitations but she has been brought to testify against Weinstein to show a "pattern" of predatory behavior. Sciorra's testimony is graphic and she alleges that Weinstein forced himself into her home and raped her. After the encounter, she alleges that Weinstein told her not to tell anyone what happened. But under cross examination Sciorra admitted that she worked on the Weinstein movie Cop Land after the alleged rape. Are Sciorra's accusations credible? This week, I talk to a guest from past times: writer Mitch del Monico! We talk about communicating, especially with people we disagree with. This is especially important in divisive times, in which disagreements can lead to relationship rupture. Mitch recently wrote a book addressing this phenomenon, called Politically Divided, which we also talk about. You may recognize Mitch from a previous episode, when I interviewed him and co-creator Shaan Dasani about Agent of Change. He’s a writer who has also worked as a film and music video director and digital media assistant on a ship that sailed the Atlantic Ocean. His feature film, Alto, stars Annabella Sciorra, Natalie Knepp, and Diana DeGarmo. Mitch has also written for HuffPo and has researched TV shows for the History Channel, Discovery, and the American Heroes Channel, among others, including nearly a hundred episodes of Modern Marvels. Mitch has spoken on panels at Comic-Con, Wonder-Con, the LA Film Festival, and CreatorUp! and has served as a juror for the Don Thompson LGBT Film Festival for the past three years in a row.
On this episode of Compelled, we discuss Andy Dick's issues, Netflix Desire, and Harvey Weinstein's continuing issues. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AndyDick#Arrestsandlegalactions On July 16, 2008, Dick was arrested in Murrieta, California, on suspicion of drug possession and sexual battery. He exposed the breasts of a 17-year-old girl when he allegedly grabbed and pulled down her tank top and brassiere. During a search of his person, police reported finding a small quantity of cannabis and one alprazolam (Xanax) tablet (for which Dick did not have a prescription) in his front pants pocket.[28][29] He was released from jail after posting $5,000 bail. Dick eventually pleaded guilty to misdemeanor battery and marijuana possession. He was sentenced to three years probation, had to pay about $700 in fines, and was ordered to wear an alcohol-monitoring bracelet for one year.[30] On January 23, 2010, Dick was arrested about 4 a.m. at a bar in Huntington, West Virginia, on charges of sexual abuse after reportedly groping a bartender and a patron.[31][32] He was released from jail after pleading not guilty and posting $60,000 bail.[33][34] On June 29, 2011, Dick was formally indicted by a Cabell County Grand Jury for two counts of first degree sexual abuse. Dick pleaded not guilty during a formal arraignment in Cabell County Circuit Court in Huntington on July 29, 2011. After receiving the not guilty plea, Judge Paul Ferrell set a trial date of January 17, 2012.[35] After several delays, on May 21, 2012, Dick was given a six-month pre-trial diversion. An assistant prosecutor said that the agreement stated that if Dick would stay out of legal trouble for six months, the criminal charges would be dismissed.[36] In January 2012, the two alleged victims filed a civil suit against Dick for unspecified damages.[37] In June 2018, he was charged with misdemeanor sexual battery and battery charges for allegedly groping a woman on April 5th of that year.[38] https://www.indiewire.com/2018/06/desire-netflix-backlash-child-pornography-masturbation-1201979559/ Netflix was criticized in a post by Megan Fox for the conservative news site PJ Media. Today's Guests: Maura Tierney, Rob Morrow, actors, "The Whole Truth" Rob Morrow, The Whole Truth, ABC Maura Tierney, The Whole Truth, ABC They are two of America’s favorite and most charismatic actors. They are also a man and a woman who have retained their dignity and privacy as we’ve watched them mature and grow on television for the past—dare I say it? – two decades. Maura Tierney appeared in almost 300 episodes of NBC shows, including 100 “NewsRadio”s with the late Phil Hartman and almost 200 “ER”s. And Rob Morrow had similar runs over on CBS: 102 episodes of “Northern Exposure” and 118 episodes of “Numb3rs”. MAURA TIERNEY Audio Excerpt: "I did a TV movie with Diana Ross where I played a schizophrenic. Did you ever do that?" ROB MORROW Audio Excerpt: "No. I did a thing with Annabella Sciorra... My wife saw Diana Ross shopping at Gelson's the other day. She can't stop talking about it. Diana Ross pushing a cart!" Now they’re together for what I believe is the first time, co-starring on the alphabet network, ABC, in “The Whole Truth.” He’s an over-confident, wisecracking defense attorney named Jimmy Brogan; she’s Kathryn Pearle, an equally confident assistant district attorney. It’s a two-sided legal drama where viewers get both sides—and maybe a little more, hence the title.
