5/8: The Spy Who Changed History: The Untold Story of How the Soviet Union Won the Race for America's Top Secrets by  Svetlana Lokhova (Author)   Format: Kindle Edition On a sunny September day in 1931, a Soviet spy walked down the gangplank of the luxury transatlantic liner SS Europa and into New York. Attracting no attention, Stanislav Shumovsky had completed his journey from Moscow to enrol at a top American university. He was concealed in a group of 65 Soviet students heading to prestigious academic institutions. But he was after far more than an excellent education. Recognising Russia was 100 years behind the encircling capitalist powers, Soviet leader Joseph Stalin had sent Shumovsky on a mission to acquire America's vital secrets to help close the USSR's yawning technology gap. The road to victory began in the classrooms and laboratories of MIT – Shumovsky's destination soon became the unwitting finishing school for elite Russian spies. The USSR first transformed itself into a military powerhouse able to confront and defeat Nazi Germany. Then in an extraordinary feat that astonished the West, in 1947 American ingenuity and innovation exfiltrated by Shumovsky made it possible to build and unveil the most advanced strategic bomber in the world. Following his lead, other MIT-trained Soviet spies helped acquire the secrets of the Manhattan Project. By 1949, Stalin's fleet of TU-4s, now equipped with atomic bombs could devastate the US on his command. Appropriately codenamed BLÉRIOT, Shumovsky was an aviation spy. Shumovsky's espionage was so successful that the USSR acquired every US aviation secret from his network of agents in factories and at top secret military research institutes. In this thrilling history, Svetlana Lokhova takes the reader on a journey through Stalin's most audacious intelligence operation. She pieces together every aspect of Shumovsky's life and character using information derived from American and Russian archives, exposing how even Shirley Temple and Franklin D. Roosevelt unwittingly advanced his schemes. 1935

Send us a textThank you, Henna Pryor for making today's episode possible!!!Greg Offner lived a compartmentalized life—corporate sales professional by day, piano bar performer by night. Though successful in both worlds, he felt disconnected from his authentic self, keeping different aspects of his personality in separate "buckets." Then disaster struck: a severe vocal cord injury threatened everything, leaving one vocal cord paralyzed after years of overuse, smoking, and untreated acid reflux.Greg poured his experience in music, business, and behavioral psychology into a framework for creating emotionally resonant, high-impact workplace experiences. The result became a keynote—and a book—focused on transforming disengaged workplaces into cultures where people thrive.Today, Greg helps organizations around the globe design Encore Experiences™—workplace moments so meaningful, people can't wait to come back and do it again.Through fifteen surgical procedures and periods of complete silence (communicating only through a whiteboard while healing), Greg spiraled into depression. The turning point came unexpectedly at a Tony Robbins event when a stranger named Svetlana observed: "You're trying to keep all these different parts of your life in buckets... But what if you didn't have those buckets? What if it was all brought together in one thing and that was you?" Pointing to the stage where Tony was speaking, she said, "I think you'd be doing something like that"—a lightning bolt moment that changed everything.Today, as a keynote speaker and father to two young daughters (Frankie, 4, and Trixie, 2), Greg brings his whole self to every aspect of life. He shares profound insights about balancing his driven personality with the unpredictability of parenting: "Replace expectations with hopes. Instead of mapping out my day, maybe replace it with 'wouldn't it be nice if...'" This shift creates space for grace when things don't go as planned.Drawing from his musical background, Greg teaches his daughters to "play your instrument in a way that elevates the performance of the players around you"—a philosophy that extends beyond music to life itself. His remarkable journey reminds us that sometimes our greatest setbacks lead to our most authentic path forward, especially when we stop compartmentalizing and bring all parts of ourselves together. Please don't forget to leave us a review wherever you consume your podcasts! Was passiert, wenn Menschen Zeit geschenkt bekommen? Die Bücher in dieser Folge:Meike Werkmeister: „Über den Wolken wohnen die Träume“ (Goldmann) Michael Kobr: „Schatten über Sømarken“ (Goldmann) Maja Lunde: „Für immer“ (btb) Volker Klüpfel: „Wenn Ende gut, dann alles“ (Penguin) Jonas Jonasson: „Wie die Schweden das Träumen erfanden“ (C. Factory fires, chemical explosions, and aerial pollutants have inexorably shaped South Baltimore into one of the most polluted places in the country. In Futures After Progress: Hope and Doubt in Late Industrial Baltimore (U Chicago Press, 2024), anthropologist Chloe Ahmann explores the rise and fall of industrial lifeways on this edge of the city and the uncertainties that linger in their wake. Writing from the community of Curtis Bay, where two hundred years of technocratic hubris have carried lethal costs, Ahmann also follows local efforts to realize a good future after industry and the rifts competing visions opened between neighbors. Examining tensions between White and Black residents, environmental activists and industrial enthusiasts, local elders and younger generations, Ahmann shows how this community has become a battleground for competing political futures whose stakes reverberate beyond its six square miles in a present after progress has lost steam. And yet—as one young resident explains — “that's not how the story ends.” Rigorous and moving, Futures after Progress probes the deep roots of our ecological predicament, offering insight into what lies ahead for a country beset by dreams deferred and a planet on the precipice of change. FEBRUARY 28, 2014  .Spygate Exposed: 2025 Reissue Edition – Original 2020 Text, with a Newly Written Foreword Paperback – March 23, 2025  by  Svetlana Lokhova  (Author) https://www.amazon.com/Spygate-Exposed-Reissue-Original-Foreword/dp/B0F2MR15ST/ref=sr_1_1?crid=2JSCI8JXCZYLD&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.8kyOb0XFdRwu6xECf-3VGB4MichvP3hsnZlWuFZvUry5oJYujoIsh4TuRVNAfJBP-Pp4qaoBfXUbR8Z11_6QI1VnrxbJ6r_f8uHE5WejPdvPlzGzxpXMaOvzBUp00mNwoFCyaGvyqa8hbME4hjOKKxlc4FU_ykkjXbiYavHFbyerzW2sbyP7DurhLCA9BakE.M0jyav0jki6T3C7qrVUuImPPb_u1_t3LIzHkel7qkfQ&dib_tag=se&keywords=LOKHOVA&qid=1744509827&sprefix=lokhova%2Caps%2C138&sr=8-1 Spygate is the greatest scandal in modern American history: a plot to topple President Donald J Trump. In this explosive eyewitness account, Cambridge University historian Svetlana Lokhova exposes the “Russia hoax” —and how a devious spy Stefan Halper operating against the Trump presidential campaign ensnared Lt. General Michael T. Flynn. For his efforts, this spy collected massive payouts from the US taxpayer. Halper planted lies, entrapped unsuspecting Trump advisers, and leaked classified information to the media in 2017. Swept up in this fabricated narrative, Lokhova was falsely accused of being Flynn's lover and a Russian intelligence agent—a smear that derailed her academic career. As an eye witness, Lokhova co-operated with Special Counsel John Durham's investigation for years. Now, she reveals the truth behind Spygate, tracing the tangled web of deceit involving President Obama's inner circle, Hillary Clinton's campaign, British intelligence operatives, the CIA, and Christopher Steele and more. Drawing on newly declassified records and findings from the Durham investigation, Lokhova also exposes the media's role in amplifying these falsehoods. Recommended by Rep. Devin Nunes, Maria Bartiromo, John Solomon, Sara A. Carter, and Dan Bongino—and first discussed on The Dennis Prager Show—this new edition features an extensive Foreword packed with fresh revelations about the conspirators and their cover-ups. This is the untold story of Spygate—and Lokhova's long fight for justice. 1840 PEMBROKE COLLEGE
