Jeff Steinmann discusses how to quit working!
“Obviously you want to be cash flow positive and a little bit more than positive is great. That's more attainable in some areas than others. That's easier to do in St. Louis than it is to do in New York, right?” -Jeff Steinmann In today's episode, Master Certified Coach Jill Farmer talks with Realtor and founder of Essential StL, Jeff Steinmann about the truth about real estate investing. Have you been looking for another source of income or does the idea of passive income really appeal to you? Have you been considering investing in real estate in order to realize your dreams of financial independence? If so, in this episode, Jeff gives us an honest look at what we are getting ourselves into as real estate investors, and gives us his top tips for real estate investing. We learn about the multiple ways to start investing in real estate. Tune in to find out which one may be right for you. Jeff is the founder of Essential StL and a Realtor. In 1999, Jeff moved to St. Louis. He immediately fell in love with the city, but saw the problems.... bad press, bad reputation and lack of pride. When he got to know his neighbors, he saw a vibrant community of wonderful, loving people who care about each other and look out for each other. He eventually combined his passion for St. Louis with his passion for architecture, love of people and corporate background to start Transform StL officially in 2016, which would become Essential StL in May of 2021. Jeff and his son live in the Shaw neighborhood and when not working, he enjoys the bars and restaurants of St. Louis, Minecraft, reading, watching documentaries and everything outdoors. Jeff’s Bio Jeff Steinmann from HowtoQuitWorking.com (and author of the book by the same name). Jeff's a real hustler who left his corporate gig a few years ago to pursue the entrepreneurial path. He's got a unique perspective on life. This is absolute gem for anyone struggling to have that one conversation. And find out what they can truly become. I’ve been trying my whole life to figure things out — figure out what to do, what to say, how to be, how to live the best life I can. It’s been a journey of trying this, trying that, and trying the other thing. Most of it doesn’t work, but occasionally, I feel like I figure a little something out. One of the bigger steps I took was back in 2012, when I left behind a successful corporate career, relationship of 10 years, lots of friends, and my dream house, but most importantly: everything I thought I knew about what the rest of my life would look like. I thought that having my own business would be the solution, the thing that would solve all my problems. After many trials and failures I eventually kind of got a business to work. I had a podcast, coaching and online business called, “How to Quit Working.” When that business hit its stride In 2015, I had a huge awakening. A Note from Jeff: I had always looked to external things for happiness… fulfillment… or whatever the true goal is. I always worked hard to get those external things. I usually had success, but one thing never changed: they never brought me the true peace and satisfaction I was looking for. I finally came to grips with the idea that there isn’t anything outside myself that is going to change how I feel. It has to come from within. Having spent a lifetime mastering how to accomplish external things, I was faced with a huge challenge: having to master myself from within. I left that business behind and began following my heart to do what it told me to do. That meant leaving behind years of work and embarking on a new journey to a new business, but more importantly, a whole new way of approaching life. It’s been a long journey of ups and downs and I’d love to say I’ve finally got it all figured out — but I have not. My journey has taught me only one thing: there are no destinations. Only more things to be learned and discovered, but most importantly, more questions to be asked. In this show we talk about so so so much!! Including how to love yourself We question social norms The dark sides of self help Books Trying to be happy and paradoxically it not making you happy. Living for the moment. The gift of going through adversity and coming out the other end. Imposter syndrome. Putting a passion project to sleep. The Dip- the how and when you find out when to quit. Following your intuition instead of listening to everyone around you. You Asked, We Answered! Transcript of the podcast Hello everyone, this is Jeff Steinmann. I am a sophomore at Penn State Brandywine. Today I am going to tell everyone about how the Chesapeake Bay was formed. The Chesapeake Bay was formed billions of years ago in Maryland. There are three different events that went into the forming of the Chesapeake Bay, which include: an asteroid hitting the earth, massive glacier forming, and the warming of Earth. Scientist are not sure if what hit the earth was a comet or an asteroid. Scientist are certain that the comet or asteroid, hit the earth about thirty five million years ago. [1] Scientist say that the asteroid or comet impact zone was off the Delmarva Peninsula. This peninsula connects Delaware, portions of Maryland, and portions of Virginia together. The comet or asteroid that formed the Chesapeake Bay formed a crater that is fifty five miles wide. [1] The crater formed the shape of the land for the Chesapeake Bay. There are two more events left to form the Chesapeake Bay as we know it today. The second event that helped form the Chesapeake Bay was the massive glacier forming. Scientist say the glacier formed about ten to two million years ago. Between this time a series of ice was formed from the ice age and extended the coastline about one hundred and eighty miles closer. [1] With the expanding of the coastline the next event made the forming of the Chesapeake Bay occur faster and easier. The last event that completed the formation of the Chesapeake Bay was the warming of Earth. About eighteen thousand years ago the earth begin to warm rapidly, causing the glaciers to melt. [1] With the increase in the amount of water on earth all the rivers and streams expanded. One particular river contributed to the forming of the Chesapeake Bay, and that river is the Susquehanna River, which is located in Pennsylvania. The Susquehanna River flows directly into the Chesapeake Bay, therefore when the glaciers melted the Susquehanna River overflowed into the Chesapeake Bay. The Susquehanna river fed fresh water into the Chesapeake bay, but the river still meets with saltwater closer to the ocean. The mixing of these two types of water classify the Chesapeake Bay as an estuary, which is where salt water and freshwater meet in one place. [3] Without the three events that occurred to form the Chesapeake Bay one of the largest estuaries in the world would not exist today. So many plants and animals rely on the Chesapeake Bay to provide food, water, and shelter everyday. [2] The Chesapeake Bay is habituated by about two thousand seven hundred species of plants and animals. [3] There are about three hundred and forty eight fish and one hundred and seventy three shell fish. [3] Shell fish include species of clams, oysters, crabs, and starfish. With the diverse amount of species the Chesapeake Bay produces many jobs and seafood for the United States. Therefore, without the events that impacted the formation of the bay, plants, animals, and people would be struggling without the estuary everyone calls the Chesapeake Bay. I want to thank everyone for listening to my podcast. I hope everyone enjoyed it and learned how the Chesapeake Bay was formed. Thank you and have a great day. Jeff Steinmann - Entrepreneur, Consultant and Author Jeff Steinmann started off like most young adults. He was supposed to go to college and figure out what you are going to do for the rest of your life. Jeff went down this road and spent 13 years getting his bachelors degree. He knew this wasn't a sustainable trajectory and in the late 90's he sort of fell into a career in technology. He started doing some programming and project management. He started to figure out how corporate life worked, but he was never fully sold on corporate life. One day, he thought he was ready to quit his job. He began a little business on the side and he got so far that he even scheduled an appointment with his boss to resign from his job. He remember's this point in his life like it was yesterday. He came into work early and went down to the conference room where the meeting was going to take place. With his resignation letter in hand, Jeff was waiting to meet with his boss. His boss walked in, and Jeff could tell he was in a big hurry. His boss asked him point blank, "Okay Jeff, what do you want?" Instead of going through with his initial goal of leaving the corporate world and launching his entrepreneurial career, Jeff chickened out. He quickly made up another reason for having the meeting and he went back to his desk. He remembers sitting down and saying to himself that everything was ok and that he wasn't going to do this. He remembers trying to comfort himself by thinking that he still had a job and that he was going to retire in about 45 years. He decided to make the best of it and charge forward. Jeff realized a lot of success in the corporate world. He received several promotions and raises. Even though he was doing well, he couldn't help but realize that with every promotion, raise or new responsibility, he felt almost as if he was a hamster on a wheel. He would do good, celebrate by going out for some wine and a steak dinner, and then he would go back to work the next day and do the same thing the very next day. This didn't make any sense to him. He wasn't growing inside. He wanted so much more out of life. He remembers one moment for him, which Jeff says was a defining moment in his life. He had a meeting with a member of upper management who was about two weeks away from retirement. Now, Jeff was 36 or 37 during this meaning and so he has been in corporate america for 13 years now. During their meeting, his colleague received a phone call and it apparantely it wasn't good news as he let out a string of profanities and looked frustrated with what was happening. Don't let fear stop you. - Jeff Steinmann Jeff remembers thinking, "this is what I am aspiring to"? This is what it looks like when you climb the corporate ladder. He realized this is where he needed to finally make the jump. How to Quit Working Before Jeff could actually quit his job, he had to start working on his marketing and consulting firm to build up some clientele. When Jeff went into the same meeting in 2012 that he experienced 13 years earlier, albeit with a different manager, he successfully quit his job. There are two things initially that you have to understand about this transition. Time and credibility. How do you find the time to begin the entrepreneurial journey? The fact of the matter is that this sucks. There really is no secret to finding the time. You have to stay focused on why you are working as hard as you are and why you aren't doing things like going to the ball game or watching television. One thing you can do is to cancel your cable. Not only will you save some money each month, but this will free you up to work on your business. One of the things many people do when they are starting a new business is focusing on things that don't matter to business development. They may focus on things that are fun and exciting and forget to do the necessary, less fun things like establishing the operations,
Today's guest was one of those people, and that was just a few short years ago. His reality - he dreaded his uninspiring 9 to 5 existence, he didn't know how to quit and start something he cared about. He eventually did figure it out and he managed to leave his corporate career - a very nice one by the way - of 15 years, and create a lifestyle that he actually craved. And his name is Jeff Steinmann, and he's gonna be telling us all about that journey and how we too can live a life that we want and work a job that we actually enjoy. Jeff is the founder of Bravo Experts, he's also the author of "How to Quit Working", which is actually a new podcast as well. Jeff also writes for several media outlets including the Huffington Post, Lifehack, and Elite Daily.

Jeff tells you how to get to the place you really want to be… which probably isn’t listening to your boss’s boss’s boss rant and rave during workplace meetings. When it comes to this topic, Jeff was in that spot once. Though he made a great living and was working his way up the corporate ladder in his job, he knew he couldn’t continue on that path. He wasn’t happy. The moment of truth came when he witnessed one of his top bosses just two weeks away from the man’s retirement yelling and getting really stressed out as a result of a call that interrupted a meeting. Jeff decided then and there that there’s no way he wanted to be that man! He left to start his own marketing business, which opened doors to more opportunities and helped him understand what he really wanted. He learned to set his own milestones and congratulate himself for a job well done. He learned to set his own goals and march to the beat of his own drummer. Now he helps others do the same. That’s what he shares in his book, How to QUIT Working. It’s something that should go into your must-read list because lots of information and ideas about money and happiness are shared in its pages! You think lots of money will make you happy? Not exactly. Learn more.
Why is it that society, media, school, and our families lead us believe that we need to go to college, get a job, get married, have 2.5 kids, work 9-5 until we are 65 and then retire to do the things that we dreamed of doing in our 20’s and 30’s only to realize that we are now too old to do them? Does that path still work? Is that path the ONLY way? NO! No it’s not. Now, don’t misunderstand what I am saying. You can do all the things I listed above and love every minute of it! Whatever path you choose to follow, I will respect! But what about the people that don’t want to do all the things “Society” deems necessary? What should those people do? Meet Jeff Steinmann, founder of How To Quit Working. Jeff brought ENERGY to this episode! He is the kind of the guy that does not believe everyone fits into the same box. Jeff believes we are all unique individuals and his goal is to help those around him leave their job and build a business that allows them to live a life of freedom.
