Land Consistent Wholesale Orders with Katie Hunt [workshop replay]

Last week, I hosted a brand new workshop based on shifts that I've been seeing in the wholesale industry. The program was called Landing Consistent Wholesale Orders: without over-relying on Faire, bad pitches, or discounts and it was incredible. Over 150+ of you joined us live! The chat was booming with questions, convos, and ideas. It was so much fun and super valuable for any product-based business owner looking to scale the wholesale side of their business. Several of you have already caught the replay, but I wanted to share the workshop  – in its entirety – here on the podcast for those of you who want to listen on the go. Here's what I covered: Why your pitch isn't the problem and the real reason that stores aren't replying to your pitches. The subtle fear that is hurting your wholesale outreach and how to reframe it into confidence The strategic shift that makes Faire actually work and why most product brands miss it. Now, I did have slides with this presentation, so if you want to watch it, you can do so at prooftoproduct.com/rsvp. This podcast episode and the replay will be up for only a few more days so listen while you can. Also, this is your reminder that our wholesale coaching program Paper Camp is now open for enrollment! There are literally no other wholesale programs that have been around for as long as we have and none that have the success rate that we've had with our students. And the reason is we focus on results. But also our secret sauce and the main reason that we're still here making an impact after tens of thousands of students in more than 45 rounds of this program is because we care deeply about our students and our community members.  We want you to build a business that is going to thrive and give you a wonderful, rich life to live. We want to help more independent brands get their products on the shelves of stores. Head to prooftoproduct.com/papercamp to learn more and enroll now. Conventional market design is very limiting for new technologies, specifically batteries, and the report focuses on why the RTOs of PJM, MISO and NYISO are strong candidates for reform. They also talk about why California Independent System Operator (CISO) and Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) remain leading examples of battery storage deployment and what has made them successful. #341 - Cómo evitar perder dinero vendiendo en Amazon

Wizards Of Ecom (En Español)

Play Episode Listen Later Aug 12, 2025 26:58

Spoiler: You don't need 15,000 units in stock to get started.Pricing for Profit (Not Panic)Katie shares why underpricing is a red flag to buyers and what the term “keystone pricing” really means. If you've ever been confused about wholesale vs. retail margins, this part is a must-listen.The Pitch Process That Gets Buyers to Say YES Pitching wholesale buyers is a lot like pitching the media. Katie walks us through:How to find the right buyers (hint: use LinkedIn, social, and direct mail)Why cold pitching still works—and what to sayWhat not to do (like showing up unannounced at a shop!)Why PR and Social Proof Still Matter in Wholesale While emotional storytelling matters more in DTC, wholesale buyers still look for credibility. Katie explains how PR features, retail testimonials, and even just having your ducks in a row can help build buyer trust.Real Talk: It Can Take Time—But It's Worth It Katie shares how one wholesale buyer took four years to finally place an order—and why persistence, visibility, and relationship-building paid off.Success Story Spotlight: Alex from Shake On The A Katie highlights the journey of a client who went from making greeting cards on her kitchen table to building a multi-million-dollar brand in 3,500+ stores.Final Takeaway Don't let fear or lack of knowledge stop you from going after wholesale. Kate is one of our Paper Camp alumni and her business is called Splatter & Bloom. She sells watercolor kits that give you instant creativity boosts without any of the hassle.  Before joining Paper Camp, Kate was in zero stores and now her products are carried in nearly 70. She didn't always focus on selling watercolor kits, though. During this episode, you'll hear Kate share about the challenges she faced evolving her product line, the pivotal moments that led to her distribution of her watercoloring kits into 60-plus stores, and her experience of going viral on TikTok.  You'll also hear her talk about burnout and her experiences with that, which is super important for us to talk about. In this episode you'll get to know one of the talented and dedicated farm members of the Philadelphia Floral Guild.  Elise Hanks owns and operates Terra Luna Herbals, a microfarm located in the very urban Norris Square neighborhood of Philadelphia.  Elise has been working in flowers for over a decade, both in florist shops and at farms.  In fact, she was an employee at my flower farm all the way back in 2012 so this conversation and the way we work together now as peers feels beautifully full circle to me.  Elise launched Terra Luna out of a small community garden space in 2015, at first focusing on homegrown, value-added herbal products.  There are several crossover crops between herbal medicine and floristry, so Elise soon found herself selling bouquets to Riverwards Produce, a local, independent grocery store.  Today her focus has shifted considerably to growing high-quality, specialty stems for wholesale to florists.  She joined PFG in 2024 and has proven the old adage “small but mighty” is true.  While Elise grows on a very small footprint, her unique offerings, high quality, and reliability have made her a standout at PFG.  I'm excited for you to get to know Elise a little bit better through this chat!  You can also find Elise on Instagram where she frequently posts very real glimpses into the highs and lows of flower farming and small business ownership.  Her handle is @terralunaherbals. ---- This podcast is brought to you by the Philadelphia Floral Guild, a collective of flower farms in the mid-Atlantic region selling together to florist and other wholesale buyers. We help you elevate your design work and manifest a better tomorrow with locally-grown stems.  Visit philadelphiafloralguild.com to learn more and follow us on Instagram @phillyfloralguild for regular inspiration.  Sign up for our newsletter to stay up to date on what's in season, tips and tricks for design, and the latest episodes.  Not near Philadelphia but would like to source local flowers for your business?  Check out localflowers.org and rootedfarmers.com to find a flower farm near you.   What Can Locally Grown Stems Do For Your Floral Business? Less Shrink: Without the stress of a long ride in the global supply chain, our stems are superior in quality with much less breakage and far better hydration. Less Labor: Our growers do all the work of a studio assistant, stripping stems and making fresh cuts on stems that go directly into water and never leave a water source. This means you do not have to process anything! Less Trash: There are no boxes, packing paper, bubble wrap, box straps, plastic sleeves, and all the other usual trash that comes with a flower delivery from the traditional wholesaler. More Inspiration:  Designing with the seasons sparks creativity.  No two weeks are the same.  More Community:  Workign with local growers is a very personal connection.  You'll grow your community every time you buy local.

Why Faire Won't Save Your Wholesale Strategy If you've ever felt frustrated by low sales during a Faire market or discouraged by their commission rates, you're not alone. But here's the hard truth: if you're relying on Faire to bring in all your orders, you're handing over your power. In this episode, I share recent feedback from brand owners during the Faire Summer Market, and we unpack what it actually means to take responsibility for your sales — even when you're on a marketplace platform. Because while Faire is a tool, your strategy is what drives growth. Let's talk about how to work with Faire in a way that's mutually beneficial, how to take back control of your sales, and how to avoid the trap of passive selling.   Episode Timestamps 00:00 Introduction and Welcome 00:21 Discussing Faire Market Experiences 01:25 The Role of Faire in Your Wholesale Strategy 03:03 Taking Control of Your Sales 04:13 Interviews and Sales Growth Lab 05:12 Commission Structure and Pricing 06:51 Final Advice and Resources   In this episode Real insights from brands who've experienced very different results during the Faire Summer Market Why Faire is responsible for their sales — and you're responsible for yours How to shift from passive to proactive selling Why commission complaints are often a distraction from the real issue What a fair, strategic partnership with marketplaces should look like How your wholesale sales system can help you build predictability and resilience Links and Resources Download the free Email Pitch Checklist → https://smallbusinesscollaborative.myflodesk.com/checklist Join the Sales Growth Lab Waitlist (and get first access and bonuses) → https://www.smallbusinesscollaborative.co.uk/sales-growth-lab Visit my website → https://smallbusinesscollaborative.co.uk Follow me on Instagram → https://instagram.com/smallbusinesscollaborative If this episode sparked a mindset shift, please follow the podcast and share it with a friend. Episode 4: Is Wholesale Still Worth It in 2025?   If you've been wondering whether wholesale is still worth it — because it feels harder, slower, or less predictable than it used to — this episode is for you.   The truth? Wholesale still works. But not if you're treating it like it's 2019.   In this episode, I'm sharing: What's really changed in the retail landscape. 3 key shifts that are shaping how buyers make decisions in 2025. Why wholesale is still one of the best ways to build predictable income — if you're ready to evolve how you approach it.   You'll walk away with a clearer picture of what's going on behind the scenes for buyers, and what you can do to stay visible, relevant, and top of mind (without being pushy).   Because yes — your products are great. But if buyers are overwhelmed, distracted, and being pitched by 10 other brands… the best thing you can do is make it easy for them to say yes.   And that's exactly what I help you do inside Sales Growth Lab. Episode 5 — Your Wholesale Sales Style (And Why It Matters) If you're not getting the wholesale sales you want — or need — the problem probably isn't your products. It's that you're trying to sell in a way that doesn't suit you.   In this episode of Let's Talk Shop, I'll walk you through the five most common sales styles I see — and how each one can either help or hinder your wholesale growth. Whether you're an overthinker, a spree seller, a ghost, a connector, or a hustler… you'll leave this episode with clarity and next steps.   Because when you understand how you naturally sell, it becomes so much easier to build a strategy that actually works for you — and finally stop second-guessing everything. Episode 6: 5 Big Mistakes I See in Wholesale Pitches   If you've been sending pitches and hearing crickets — this episode is for you. Even with great products, unclear or hesitant emails will get ignored. In this episode, I break down the 5 most common (and fixable) pitch mistakes I see from product-based business owners — and what to do instead.   We'll talk about: Why vague pitches don't work (even when your products are amazing) The “hope you're well” trap — and what to say instead How to sound confident without being pushy Why clear next steps matter more than ever The truth about follow-ups (hint: you're not being annoying)   I'll also share a real result from one of my Sales Growth Lab students — and how a simple pitch rewrite lead to two replies and one order right away.   If you want to pitch with more confidence and finally start hearing back from stockists, this one's a must-listen.

One of the highlights of our Paper Camp program is the weekly coaching calls that we host by me and our guest experts. You not only get to ask questions about that week's curriculum and content from Paper Camp, but you also get to hear firsthand from industry experts.  These are wholesale experts: large-scale wholesale manufacturers, retail shop owners, sales experts, trade show exhibitors, all of the people that are deeply embedded in the wholesale world.  This week on the podcast, I wanted to share a snippet of one of our calls from Marketing Week. This is the week in Paper Camp that we traditionally talk with shopkeepers to find out how they like to be pitched, how much follow-up is too much, do they want to see samples before they buy, and so much more. This is your chance to ask all of your burning questions of our guest experts and to hear direct feedback. This excerpt is a conversation with Victoria Venturi of Paper Epiphanies and Katie Wilson of Crush & Touch. These are two shopkeepers who are getting pitched all of the time from brands and vendors that are just like you.  Victoria and Katie are providing feedback on how they like to be pitched, including the best way for vendors to capture their attention, methods that they use most when placing orders, and red flags that they see in wholesale pitches.  They talk about whether they want to receive samples and about follow-up and how much follow-up is too much.  This is just a small portion of the incredible value that our Paper Camp students receive during their time in our program.  I am incredibly grateful for people like Victoria and Katie and our other speakers that come back to share their knowledge and preferences with us.  These calls are my favorite part of Paper Camp. Speaking of Paper Camp, we will be opening enrollment for the next round very soon. This is a program that we only run live twice a year. It is not a course you do on your own. We are there to hold your hand and help you through it, answering questions for your specific brand and circumstances.  I wanted to let you know that we have some new, exciting surprises to share with you during this launch round, including a free event that you won't want to miss. I'm not quite ready to spill all the tea yet, but everyone who is on our Paper Camp waitlist will be the first to hear about this live event and the new incentives that we're offering.  You can view full show notes and more at http://prooftoproduct.com/403  Quick Links: Free Wholesale Audio Series Free Resources Library Free Email Marketing for Product Makers PTP LABS Paper Camp
