Welcome to the Inverted Orthodoxy Podcast! We're Blake, Kyle, and Doug the pastors from Living Springs, here to take you on a weekly adventure through the twists and turns of faith. Got questions? We've got answers, and sometimes more questions! Join us as we explore, celebrate, and embrace the beautiful complexities of belief. Let's dive in! 1. question for episode 434 - at one point in this episode Doug points out that often god is choosing to work in specific areas of our lives and "ignoring" others for the time being and that it's between each of us and god. why would this concept not apply to lgbtq+ believers? even if you believe that homosexuality is a sin, what if god is addressing other things in their lives and we're trying to prioritize what we think is their biggest issue when maybe its just not the priority for god right now. shouldn't that also be between them and god? and if so, then why would that impact their ability to serve anymore than the sins the rest of us are carrying?2. AER- Thankful for your thoughtful answer to my question. It truly helped my wrestling. One part I would like a little more clarification on is how do we use critical thinking skills appropriately in our relationship with YHWH so we don't get swept up in thoughts and feelings that may not actually be from YHWH. I ask because part of my suffering has come from thinking I heard YHWH say something and it didn't work out the way I thought he spoke to me. Kinda similar to our church family thinking Jayden would be healed. Again, I'm not trying to be insensitive in my question, Thank you for Your grace in my wrestling.3. AER: Kyle mentioned discussing how our faith and prayers interact with the will of God. Could you all please expand on that statement?4. AER! Please.....First off, I want to say that I love each and everyone of you and what you are doing with this podcast. It means a great deal me and I'm glad I can tune in each week and listen and open my mind to other possibilities whether I agree with it or not. That being said, this AER is specially for kyle, though anyone can jump in and give there thoughts. It goes back to the last two episodes where kyle is speaking about "Christian Non-Violence." Kyle can you explain a little more depth about what this means? I agree that we should be coming from a place a love and imaging christ in all things that we do, but in a reality where the world can present itself in an evil way, i cant wrap my head around this concept. I mean, if i was walking down the street, sitting in church or playing with my children at the park and someone came up to them or anyone for that matter and started punching, kicking, stabbing, etc. them I would not be able to just stand by and watch in a "Pacifist or Non-Violence" kind of way. Kyle is this what your saying? would you just stand back and let it happen? or would you act? Or am I completely out to lunch and missing the whole point. Thanks in advance.Do you have a question you've been wanting answered? Head on over to our website www.invertedorthodoxy.com to submit a question. Prayer isn’t meant to be passive or theoretical—it’s meant to work. Rooted in James 5, the focus is on how authentic faith produces action, and authentic prayer produces real impact in our lives and in the world around us. Scripture presents prayer as powerful and effective, not because of who we are, but because of who God is and how He invites us to participate in His work. The passage highlights the everyday moments when prayer matters most—when we’re suffering, when life is good, when we’re sick, and when we’ve sinned—revealing prayer and praise as the natural rhythms of a life anchored in God. By pointing to Elijah as an example, James makes it clear that the power of prayer isn’t reserved for spiritual elites, but for ordinary people who trust an extraordinary God. The invitation is simple but bold: believe that prayer truly works, and step into it with honesty, faith, and expectation.

King Herod Agrippa I executed James by the sword and had Peter arrested and imprisoned. In today's lesson, “Prayer Works,” we'll explore how the church responded in faith—and how Peter reacted when God opened the way for his escape.
Does prayer make people more likely to get well? Do we have convincing proof that prayer works? Also, Jenny takes LOTS of prayer requests for struggling marriages, overwhelmed moms, feelings of loneliness and isolation. Some crying (as usual) along with hope and healing. Listen for inspiration, mama!

Today’s Bible Verse:"Immediately the boy’s father exclaimed, ‘I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!’" — Mark 9:24 Mark 9:24 captures one of the most relatable prayers in all of Scripture. The desperate father believed Jesus could heal his son, yet he also admitted his struggle with doubt. Instead of hiding his weakness, he brought it honestly to Christ—and that’s where his faith grew. “Want to listen without ads? Why doesn't God answer prayer? Why do bad things happen even when I pray? In this message from Pastor Andy Schmeck in the Fierce Pathways series, we dive into the real reasons prayer works (and why sometimes it feels like it doesn't).You'll learn:What we can expect from resurrection life—and why we should pray for a whole, healed life now.Why sin can hinder our prayers—and how God exchanges our broken “report card” for His perfect one.The posture of prayer—confessing, living, and receiving forgiveness so nothing stands in the way of connecting with God.If you've ever wondered why doesn't God answer me? or what's the point of prayer?—this message is for you.
In James 5:13–20, James closes his letter by reminding believers that prayer works because God works. Whether in suffering or joy, sickness or sin, we are called to turn to God first, trusting His power and grace. Prayer is not wishful thinking, but humble dependence on a God who is both willing and able to help. As we pray for ourselves and one another, God restores, strengthens, and anchors us in Christ, keeping us steadfast in faith. Pastor Joseph Heng preaches.

Send us a textEver feel like your prayers hit the ceiling and bounce back? You're not alone. In this soul-stirring episode, host Ron Myers and his guest Mike unpack the transformative power of authentic prayer—not as a religious duty, but as a direct connection to the Creator of the universe.Mike's journey from military service to prayer ministry reveals how honest communication with God creates supernatural peace amid life's storms. Through powerful real-world examples, we witness broken families reconciled, business conflicts resolved, and stress levels dropping dramatically when people stop treating prayer as a last resort emergency hotline and start embracing it as a continuous conversation."Pain will make you pray," Mike observes, "but most of us only bring God our emergencies while handling the small stuff ourselves." This mindset shift—recognizing that God cares about every detail of our lives—is what transforms prayer from ritual to relationship.Ron shares five practical keys to developing a powerful prayer life: recognizing your union with Christ, embracing freedom in prayer (no specific formulas required), focusing on relationship rather than ritual, being completely honest with God, and trusting the Holy Spirit's guidance. These principles help break down the barriers that often make prayer feel distant or ineffective.Ready to experience the game-changing power of authentic prayer? Whether you're struggling with family conflicts, workplace challenges, or personal battles, this episode offers practical wisdom and inspiration to develop the kind of prayer life that brings peace before circumstances even change. Discover how to move beyond "bless you, bless her, bless him" prayers into transformative conversations with Jesus that will get the hell out of your life and open the doorway to divine connection. If you would like to be a guest and share your story, click this link: https://thepromoter.org/story/ Thanks for Listening, and subscribe to hear a new episode each week!
What if your season of waiting isn't a setback, but a setup for something greater? In the final installment of The Book of James series, Pastor Travis delivers a powerful and hope-filled message: waiting time is not wasted time. When we're waiting—on healing, breakthrough, purpose, or a promise—we often feel like nothing is happening. But the truth is, God is working behind the scenes, refining us, strengthening our faith, and preparing us for what's next. Just like a farmer patiently waits for the harvest, trusting the unseen process, we too must trust that God's timing is perfect. Through the stories of Joseph, Habakkuk, and Hannah, Pastor Travis reminds us that every great move of God is preceded by a season of waiting. And just like lifting heavy weights builds strength, the weight of trials is actually building us up, not breaking us down. Jesus Himself carried the ultimate weight—the cross—showing us that even our heaviest burdens have purpose. You don't have to carry them alone. There is power in trusting God, in community, and in prayer. If you're in a season of waiting, don't lose hope—your miracle, your breakthrough, your harvest is coming. Don't miss this message. It might just change the way you see waiting forever.

God is our father, our friend and He hears our prayers. In this message, Pastor Jimmy Nimon explains the process in which the power of prayer works. When we cultivate a lifestyle of prayer, approach God with the right paradigms, and expect that He will answer us, prayers become effective.
“Hope is the first thing to go” Jeffery Woodke says, speaking about his six-and-a-half years as a hostage held by radical Islamist terror groups. He says he started out, after being kidnapped, praying eight hours a day. But over the years his hopelessness increased and his prayer time faded to twenty minutes daily. Suicidal, he beseeched his persecutors numerous times to take his life, knowing heaven would be much better than his existence as a hostage chained to a tree. Despite his doubts, God was always with Jeff. He found he couldn't abandon prayer altogether. Listen as Jeff shares more about his time as a hostage; his hunger and water strikes to get better treatment and the ongoing trauma he deals with after his experience as a captive. He'll tell the stories he heard about the Covid pandemic—and how he assumed his family must have all died and mourned their loss. Jeff will also tell about his release, from getting a “fruit basket” from the leader of his terrorist captors to being taken to the largest gathering of jihadists and Mujahadin he'd ever seen. It was there, under a tree, he met the French journalist Olivier Dubois. The two men were released together in March, 2023. Jeff spent several days in medical care after his release as doctors tried to stabilize his health before he could get on a plane to return to the US. One of the first things he asked for was a Bible. “It's good to have the Word of God,” he says. He quickly turned to the gospel of John and began to read. Jeff's testimony of forgiveness is powerful. After being chained physically, Jeff asks why anyone would chain themselves up willingly with unforgiveness? Forgiveness, he says, can cut those chains. Jeffery Woodke is still learning to process his years of hostage trauma. Pray for healing as he and Els explore what this season in their life will be. Jeff was amazed and humbled how Christians around the world prayed fervently for his release. “Prayer works,” he says. He'll help us continue to pray for persecuted Christians still held hostage in West Africa and other parts of the world. Join VOM Radio host, Todd Nettleton, for the I-Am-N Virtual Event on March 8.
