King Missile emerged from the art-punk underground with a sound that defies easy categorization. Blending elements of spoken word, surrealist humor, alternative rock, and performance art, the band is best known for its 1992 hit “Detachable Penis,” a deadpan monologue over a hypnotic groove that unexpectedly broke into mainstream consciousness. But King Missile is far more than a novelty act—it's the long-running vehicle for the singular voice of John S. Hall, a poet, satirist, and cultural observer with a sharp wit and even a sharper tongue.  John S. Hall recently stopped by Thunderlove Studio, and we spoke with him about his career.  LINKS John S. On the 2003 album of nerdcore pioneer mc chris titled "Knowing Is Half The Hassle", he did a track called "White Kids Love Hip-Hop" which featured his fellow [adult swim] voice acting star Andy Merrill doing the voice of his "Space Ghost Coast To Coast" and "Cartoon Planet" character Brak delivering a rant about how how he couldn't find anything fun to do in the town where he lives. Every year at the MarsCon Comedy Music Track there is a concert called the 'Smackdown' where all of the acts that performed that weekend come back on stage to close the weekend by taking turns doing cover versions of their favorite comedy songs. I, the great Luke Ski, have a long bucket list of comedy songs I love that I would love to perform a cover version of someday at the Smackdown concert. "White Kids Love Hip-Hop" has been on that list for years, with my assumption being that if I ever did it, the 'Brak' part would have been played by me doing my impersonation of Brak, as I had done for my 1998 tribute song "Baby Got Brak". In 2024, we were fortunate enough to book Andy Merrill as the Comedy Music Guest Of Honor at MarsCon. I was ecstatic. As I continued working on plans for the event, I eventually got around to looking at my bucket list of potential cover songs so I could pick one to cover at the Smackdown. When my eyes came upon the title "White Kids Love Hip-Hop", it hit me like a power band blast... I could cover "White Kids Love Hip-Hop" and ask Andy Merrill himself to reprise his role as Brak for the rant at the end of the song. I asked him if he'd be willing to, and he said yes. And the audio record of that actually happening in real life is what this FuMP track is. After we performed it, Andy took his turn at the Smackdown and performed a couple of "Weird Al" covers to finish off the weekend. I reached out to both mc chris and Andy Merrill to get their permission to post this live cover at the FuMP, and they both graciously said yes. So many thanks to both of them, you both have been inspirations to me, and have always been nice to me, which means a lot to this middle-aged fanboy. I admit, I do trip up a few of the lyrics in my performance, but I still think it went great, and it's one of my all-time favorite MarsCon memories that I wanted to share with everybody here at the FuMP. Music by Professor Shyguy Back-up White Kids: Lindsay Smith and Insane Ian This track is a part of the MarsCon 2025 Comedy Music Track Fund Raiser album, which is a nearly 4-hour-long MP3 album of live concert excerpts from MarsCon 2024, available to download for just $30 at the Shop page of MarsCon Comedy dot com. Besides the great Luke Ski and Andy Merrill, it also has performances by Insane Ian, Power Salad, Nuclear Bubble Wrap, Holy Bongwater, Jake Dewar, and many others. The funds raised go towards covering the hotel room costs for the performers of MarsCon 2025. Speaking of which, MarsCon 2025 is happening March 7th thru 9th in the Twin Cities, MN, and features our Comedy Music Guests Of Honor, John S. Hall and Dogbowl of King Missile (Dog Fly Religion), sponsored by Needlejuice Records. For the full list of performers and events visit MarsCon Comedy dot com, and for more details on the rest of MarsCon visit MarsCon dot com.

Phantom Electric Ghost Interviews “The Taste of Vomit” David Bupp III We discuss the new album “Indoorsman” i am a rapper and songwriter from Philadelphia. i focus a lot on lyrical themes of mental health, human connection, and emotions. my new record 'The Indoorsman' will be available on digital, cassette, and streaming on March 31st. about the album: “The Indoorsman” The Indoorsman is a story of hope ; the first glimmer of movement after a season of stagnation. A concept record exploring healing and growth through heartbreak and depression; the rediscovering of oneself. Seamlessly blending hiphop and indie pop, with hints of soul, r&b, alternative rock, jazz, and classical (plus maybe the only autotuned polka ballad?). Through dense metaphors, complex inner rhymes, and clever wit, the listener dives straight into the mind of rapper and songwriter The Taste of Vomit, and asks the question, 'How long have I been stuck indoors?'. Some notable features include Duncecap (from Backwoodz Studios), John S Hall (of the 'Detachable Penis' and 'Jesus Was Way Cool' famed band King Missile), HeirMAX (from Fake Four and Cold Rhymes Records), KOURAJ, Love Ulysses, and more. What a weird time! It took me some time to come up with the right idea for a radio show in this crazy moment. After my first thoughts of doing a concept-like show about curing, healing with songs about it, I realised that the thing people need now most is probably quite simple: Too Slow To Disco…., or another hour of mellow music to soothe the soul and keep us all from having a nervous breakdown and staying sane and safe. I got rid of most of those jingles etc that I normally use to break the shows from becoming "too smooth“. New times: this time I will try to keep you from going mad! It just can’t be smooth and mellow enough to pamper you into a good mood! This time even Lou Reed sounds like he is in love… I also included five brand new tracks that will be released on TSTD in the next weeks/month (who knows…?), like all 4 tracks of that Double 7 Inch of TSTD EDITS by the Parisian uncrowned master of smooth: Vibes4YourSoul, and one first track of the upcoming „The Ladies Of Too Slow To Disco 2“ compilation! https://tooslowtodisco.myshopify.com/This is positive melancholy, you can almost dance to. Listening to people talk about Steve Martin is not as funny as listening to Steve Martin. We're not even going to pretend. We highly recommend listening to Steve Martin right now. Soon, you'll be ready to geek out with songwriters John S. Hall, Storm Garner, Terry Radigan, Charlie Nieland, Susan Hwang, Krystal Hawes, Nessa Grasing and comedian Tabitha Vidaurri along with resident literary chef, Jonathan Dressler. The songs are from their June 6th show at Barbès in Brooklyn. The conversation is from BBC host and founder, Susan Hwang's kitchen in Bushwick where she served Joyless Parent Pancakes without the No Punchline Punch. It's all inspired by Steve Martin's BORN STANDING UP and CRUEL SHOES. Thank you, Steve Martin. And thank you, Steve Martin's dad.

JUNIOR ASPIRIN RADIO SESSION 17: EMPATHYDevised and written by David Reinfurt, compiled and presented by Dan Fox, and produced in the context of 'ALWAYS LIFT INKING ROLLERS WHEN PRESS IS NOT IN OPERATION. IF ROLLERS ARE LEFT TURNING ON THE DRUM THE INK WILL DRY FASTER AND THE ROLLERS WILL BE SUBJECT TO NEEDLESS WEAR' organized by Will Holder at The Banff Centre, Banff, Alberta, Canada. PODCAST HERE"Things in their alleged places. Things where they think they should be, where they prefer to be. All of the things, just where they are. Things with things of their own. Things obeying no rules, following no orders, filling no prescriptions, looking nowhere for directives. Things with no agendas, no platforms, no purpose. A thing for everything and everything every place, Each and every thing, all over the place. Something, something else, and something else entirely. All together, all the things together make everything there is. And this too, this thing here, is also a thing. This thing is a part of everything else but it doesnt belong to anything. This is simply another additional thing that exists along with all the other things. And that's all there is to it.
