Link's Load of Stuff by Ethan Mawyer

While Super Mario was my favorite video game franchise growing up, Zelda replaced it pretty quickly once I discovered Twilight Princess and Wind Waker in the late 2000s. Thiis was followed by about a decade of not having a functioning Nintendo system, but when I bought a Switch I mostly played Breath of the Wild and now mostly Tears of the Kingdom. I'd already written a song about older Zelda games years ago, which I was fortunate to have played on the Dr. Demento show, but every once in a while I'd wonder why I'd spent so much time playing the open world games without writing a song about them. And yet nothing came to mind until Pink Pony Club had been one of the most popular songs in the United States (and probably the world) for a while and it spent a good deal of time running through my head, and then I came up with the basic idea of how the inventory (Link's Load of Stuff) in Tears of the Kingdom seemed too heavy for even the strongest of heroes to carry. It took a while from the moment of inspiration until finishing, but it's here now and I hope you like it. As should be apparent, it's not me on the vocals, but someone I've hired before to anonmously provide vocals for parodies I've written.

As always when Kim Jong Duh is in (what's left of) the white house, the scandals and nightmares come far too quickly and numerously for me to keep up. This is both a parody and a cover song! The original parody is by our beloved Filker King, Tom Smith. Go to Tom Smith's bandcamp page to listen to the orig... er, the parody. In the process of getting ready to participate the Filker Song Swap "Cover to Cover: volume 3" various artists albums (organized by fellow Fump artist Madison Metricula Roberts), the randomizer happened to choose that I should cover a song by fellow Fump artist Tom Smith. I was given a choice of 2 songs, but of course I picked the one that is a parody of a song from my favorite musical, "The Pirates of Penzance" by Gilbert and Sullivan (the original song being officially entitled "Oh Better Far to Live and Die" but probably better known as "Pirate King"). Anyway, you should really look up the Filker Song Swap albums as well! They're on Bandcamp and several other locations. And then I asked Luke Ski for help getting a group of people together to do backing vocals, but he did such a good job on them by himself that I no longer felt an entire group was needed! And in case you somehow didn't figure this out, the subject matter of the song is Jack Skellington, the lead character of the 1993 Tim Burton stop-motion Halloween film "The Nightmare Before Christmas". Instrumental (real accordion and a Suzuki Andes 25F recorder keyboard!!), mixing and mastering by the wonderful Joe Jakubowski. Lyrics by Tom Smith. Lead vocals by Carrie Dahlby. I Was in the Weird Al Pit at Riot Fest by Worm Quartet

When I discovered that Weird Al was actually on the bill at the most eclectic festival lineup I'd ever seen ("I can see Agnostic Front and Weird Al on the same day?!?" was my initial response) I had to drop "Start a Pac-Man-related cult" from my bucket list to make room for "participate in a Weird Al pit."* This has been one of many situational exceptions I've had to make to my well-documented "Too Old For The Pit" rule. I made perhaps too many exceptions during the weekend of Riot Fest, as my ribs remain bruised (presumably from Sunday's Screeching Weasel prancings,) but I appear to have survived. Highlights that I was unable to fit into the song: 1. A dude dressed as a banana in said pit 2. A dude dressed as Jesus in said pit (I told him "Hey! I read your book!") 3. Moshing to "Ricky." Seriously. "Ricky." 4. Watching Steve Jay and Jim West occasionally take photos of said pit 5. Watching a dude on the edge of said pit explain to his teenaged daughter the cardinal rule of "someone goes down, you help them up." Felt that in my soul. Special thanks to Al, whose birthday is next week. And also to my wife, for encouraging me to go to this thing. And to MC Lars for absolving me of the inadvertent theft of his "damn, son" bit. And to Dr. Demento for the years upon years of support...it just hit me that this is the first song I've ever released that has NO chance whatsoever of being played on the Dr. Demento show. But damned if he didn't end the show strong as hell, and on his own terms. (Barry, if you're reading this, all the best in your retirement.) * Apologies to anyone who has already converted their worldly posessions to tokens in anticipation of said cult. No refunds. As I'm sure everyone who frequents this site already knows all too well, The Dr. Demento Show comes to an end this weekend after 55 glorious years of mad music and crazy comedy. And what better way to pay tribute to such a momentous finale than by attempting to recap the entire history of the good doctor's show - and thus, ostensibly the entire history of comedy music itself - into an eight-and-a-half-minute parody of Don McLean's classic rock staple "American Pie?" From the recently-released compilation album Fruits of the Smogberry Trees: The FuMP's Tribute to Dr. Demento, this song was a true labor of love. Hi. Spaff here. Some kids want to grow up to be President or cure cancer. My goal was to get a song on the Dr. Demento Show. I listened to it faithfully every Sunday night, often with headphones so my mom wouldn't overhear songs like "Making Love in a Subaru." In the early 2000s I somehow convinced Robert Lund, a Salt Lake radio personality, to record some of my song parody ideas, all of which I immediately sent to Dr. Demento. On November 28, 2004, he played "I Want Some Plastic Surgery for Christmas." I was giddy. Robert and I have since collaborated on over a hundred songs, and Dr. Demento has played a number of them. I remain giddy. So here's another. It's a tribute to Dr. Demento via a list of songs from the days he hooked me. (Needless to say, he has played countless more effing awesome comedy songs in the intervening years, some of which were created by the people reading this.) It's a parody of "Ripple," a song the Grateful Dead wrote and recorded in 1970, the year Barret Hansen became Dr. Demento. Pass the claret to me, Barret! May you forever stay demented. ~~~ CREDITS: Turns out Robert owns mandolins (plural) and has played them his whole life. Also he sang and played guitar and produced this recording. "Ripple" has lyrics by Robert Hunter and music by someone named Jerry Garcia. Dr. Demento brought all of these comedy songs to our attention, and the legendary titles listed here are the brain children of their various legendary parents. BUT I DID EVERYTHING ELSE.

The Disney+ "Star Wars" TV series titled "Andor" recently finished its 2nd and final Season to much well deserved critical acclaim. I, the great Luke Ski, a fan of the "Star Wars" franchise since the first movie was released when I was 3 years old, very much enjoyed this series set in the years leading into the events of the film "Rogue One", which itself was set leading into the events of the aforementioned 1977 movie. That said... ...there was something about this show that set it apart from other "Star Wars" movies and shows of the past / since, and something that happened in Season 2 (or more accurately didn't happen) that really underscored that difference. So I decided to write this sketch in which droid K-2SO asks Rebel Captain Cassian Andor an important question that I felt was left unanswered by the series.
