Our kids are going to love things we don't understand. They're going to get into costumes, music, shoes, games, and whole worlds that aren't our thing. In today's episode, Ryan talks about taking his kids to the Renaissance Fair, resisting the urge to judge, and why one of the best things we can do as parents is simple: let them love what they love.
In this episode of Carpool Conversations, Amy and Sara sit down with Taylor Shannon from ESP (Extra Special People) to talk about what it really means to help kids with disabilities experience belonging. Taylor shares how ESP creates relationship-centered spaces where individuals with disabilities and their families are known, valued, and included, and offers practical encouragement for parents who want to raise compassionate, confident kids who see and celebrate others well. Together, they discuss how to respond when kids ask awkward questions in public, simple ways families can build genuine friendships within the disability community, and what parents should look for when choosing inclusive environments like summer camps. Taylor also speaks directly to parents navigating a new diagnosis or difficult season, reminding them that they are not alone and that their child's value has never changed. Whether your family has firsthand experience with disability or you simply want to help your kids grow in empathy and kindness, this conversation is full of insights, wisdom, and hope. In this episode, Michael Easley talks with Liz and Jack Hagler, the creative team behind the Patrick Wigglesworth Bible Adventure Series. Together, they share how decades of ministry, homeschooling, and creative work led to a bold vision: helping kids experience the Bible through graphic-novel storytelling that is both theologically grounded and highly engaging. Liz brings her background in illustration and design, while Jack draws from his pastoral and seminary training to shape the biblical framework behind each story. They explain the challenge of balancing biblical accuracy with creativity, and how feedback from their own children, grandchildren, and classrooms helped refine the tone, humor, and effectiveness of the series. Throughout the conversation, they emphasize the power of story, laughter, and visual learning in helping children retain Scripture. They also discuss the importance of family discipleship, memory, and creating space for kids to ask questions as they engage God's Word. This episode is a compelling look at how faith, creativity, and storytelling can work together to shape the next generation's understanding of Scripture. Gen Alpha's coming of age is reshaping retail, with children playing a more visible role in purchase decisions through early preferences around color, comfort, and self-expression. Research continues to show that kids increasingly influence household purchases, especially in apparel and lifestyle categories, pushing brands to rethink how early identity, confidence, and joy are designed into products and spaces. At the same time, parents are craving brands that feel human, values-driven, and rooted in community rather than trend-chasing. The stakes are high: brands that fail to emotionally connect risk becoming invisible in a market shaped by both digital awareness and a renewed desire for real-world experiences. So how do you design a brand that's about more than clothing—a world children genuinely love and parents trust enough to be part of their family's everyday moments? That's the focus of this episode of Retail Refined, hosted by Melissa Gonzalez, who sits down with Stacey Fraser, founder and CEO of Pink Chicken. Together, they explore how Pink Chicken has built a joyful, vertically integrated brand that blends nostalgia, craftsmanship, and community into an experience kids don't just wear, but live in. From designing with both child and parent in mind to creating retail spaces that feel playful, welcoming, and emotionally resonant, the conversation spans brand strategy, generational shifts, and the future of experiential retail.Top insights from the talk…How Pink Chicken identified a white space for premium, joyful kidswear that balances vintage inspiration with modern relevance. Why vertical integration and clear brand pillars are critical to maintaining quality, consistency, and emotional resonance. How Gen Alpha's growing sense of autonomy and aesthetic awareness is reshaping product design, retail experiences, and self-expression.Stacey Fraser is the founder and CEO of Pink Chicken, an artisanal lifestyle brand she launched in 2006 after a 15-year career spanning children's and women's apparel design. She brings deep expertise in brand building, product development, and childrenswear, having held senior design leadership roles at Ralph Lauren, Gap Inc., Tommy Hilfiger, and Old Navy—including helping launch Baby Gap as one of its first employees. Drawing on her background in premium fashion and her love of vintage textiles, Fraser has built Pink Chicken into a vertically integrated, multi-channel brand known for joyful design and effortless dressing across age categories.

In this episode of Transformative Principal, Brandon Cardet-Hernandez shares his journey from being a principal to advising the NYC Mayor, and now serving as President of Mrs. Wordsmith, a company dedicated to improving children's literacy through innovative tools like books and video games. Brandon dives into the urgent need for solutions in education, particularly addressing the missed "dosage" in phonemic awareness, phonics, and vocabulary instruction that many students experience. He explores the role of video games in education, emphasizing that while games can't replace teachers, they can enhance the learning process through engaging, spaced-repetition techniques, like the popular game Word Tag.Brandon discusses how joy and mastery of language can transform a student's understanding and emotional connection to words. Shmuel Luger started drinking at nine and things only got worse from there. He felt totally disconnected from Judaism, spiraling through heavy addictions, anxiety, and a deep sense of emptiness. Then a trip to Israel and one honest conversation flipped his world upside down. He didn't just get sober, he built a yeshiva for guys who don't fit the system, who are floating and forgotten. On the 2003 album of nerdcore pioneer mc chris titled "Knowing Is Half The Hassle", he did a track called "White Kids Love Hip-Hop" which featured his fellow [adult swim] voice acting star Andy Merrill doing the voice of his "Space Ghost Coast To Coast" and "Cartoon Planet" character Brak delivering a rant about how how he couldn't find anything fun to do in the town where he lives. Every year at the MarsCon Comedy Music Track there is a concert called the 'Smackdown' where all of the acts that performed that weekend come back on stage to close the weekend by taking turns doing cover versions of their favorite comedy songs. I, the great Luke Ski, have a long bucket list of comedy songs I love that I would love to perform a cover version of someday at the Smackdown concert. "White Kids Love Hip-Hop" has been on that list for years, with my assumption being that if I ever did it, the 'Brak' part would have been played by me doing my impersonation of Brak, as I had done for my 1998 tribute song "Baby Got Brak". In 2024, we were fortunate enough to book Andy Merrill as the Comedy Music Guest Of Honor at MarsCon. I was ecstatic. As I continued working on plans for the event, I eventually got around to looking at my bucket list of potential cover songs so I could pick one to cover at the Smackdown. When my eyes came upon the title "White Kids Love Hip-Hop", it hit me like a power band blast... I could cover "White Kids Love Hip-Hop" and ask Andy Merrill himself to reprise his role as Brak for the rant at the end of the song. I asked him if he'd be willing to, and he said yes. And the audio record of that actually happening in real life is what this FuMP track is. After we performed it, Andy took his turn at the Smackdown and performed a couple of "Weird Al" covers to finish off the weekend. I reached out to both mc chris and Andy Merrill to get their permission to post this live cover at the FuMP, and they both graciously said yes. So many thanks to both of them, you both have been inspirations to me, and have always been nice to me, which means a lot to this middle-aged fanboy. I admit, I do trip up a few of the lyrics in my performance, but I still think it went great, and it's one of my all-time favorite MarsCon memories that I wanted to share with everybody here at the FuMP. Music by Professor Shyguy Back-up White Kids: Lindsay Smith and Insane Ian This track is a part of the MarsCon 2025 Comedy Music Track Fund Raiser album, which is a nearly 4-hour-long MP3 album of live concert excerpts from MarsCon 2024, available to download for just $30 at the Shop page of MarsCon Comedy dot com. Besides the great Luke Ski and Andy Merrill, it also has performances by Insane Ian, Power Salad, Nuclear Bubble Wrap, Holy Bongwater, Jake Dewar, and many others. The funds raised go towards covering the hotel room costs for the performers of MarsCon 2025. Speaking of which, MarsCon 2025 is happening March 7th thru 9th in the Twin Cities, MN, and features our Comedy Music Guests Of Honor, John S. Hall and Dogbowl of King Missile (Dog Fly Religion), sponsored by Needlejuice Records. For the full list of performers and events visit MarsCon Comedy dot com, and for more details on the rest of MarsCon visit MarsCon dot com.
