On today's episode of Locked on Wild, Trevor Beggs of Locked on Canucks joins for a crossover episode to preview tonight's game! We start by talking about the Wild and how they have been able to right the ship after a rough start to the season. We discuss Judd Brackett's draft history with the Wild, and how he has done since leaving Vancouver a few seasons ago. We discuss the hot start for Brock Boeser, leading the NHL in scoring with 18 goals and feeling at home after nearly leaving Vancouver last year. We discuss the differences Rick Tocchet has provided since he took over, and the odds that Elias Petterson stays in Vancouver after looking certain he would leave early last year. We move to previewing tonight's game and a fascinating hypothetical dating back to the postseason series in 2002-03 where the Wild rallied from a 3-1 deficit to win: Which team would you rather have cheered for over the last 20 years?Subscribe to our YouTube Channel: Locked On WildFollow/Subscribe Anywhere: linktr.ee/LockedOnWildFollow Locked On NHL: linktr.ee/lockedonNHLSupport Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!eBay Motors - With all the parts you need at the prices you want, it's easy to turn your car into the MVP and bring home that win. The Vancouver Canucks and Minnesota Wild have one thing in common. Neither franchise has ever won a Stanley Cup. Yes, the Vancouver Canucks have been in the NHL for twice as long as the Minnesota Wild, but let's not get into the details. Trevor Beggs (Locked On Canucks) and Seth Toupal (Locked On Wild) link up for a Locked On crossover episode where they go over two teams heading in different directions (on multiple levels). They also discuss Judd Brackett's time in Minnesota, why Brock Boeser never joined his homestate team, and how the ‘03 Wild ruined Beggsy's childhood. On today's episode of Locked on Wild, we react to the selection of Charlie Stramel at 21 for the Minnesota Wild. We share concerns about his overall draft rating compared to where he was selected, especially considering other players such as Calum Ritchie were still available when the Wild picked. We hear your reaction to the pick, as Stramel draws comparisons to both Jordan Greenway and Joel Eriksson Ek. We finish by looking at the remaining picks for the Wild, whether or not they will move up or stay put, and how Stramel fits into the rest of the current prospect pool.Subscribe to our YouTube Channel: Locked On WildFollow/Subscribe Anywhere: linktr.ee/LockedOnWildFollow Locked On NHL: linktr.ee/lockedonNHLSupport Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! | Offers from our sponsors: lockedonpodcasts.com/offersAthletic Greens - To make it easy, Athletic Greens is going to give you a FREE 1 year supply of immune-supporting Vitamin D AND 5 FREE travel packs with your first purchase. On today's episode of Locked on Wild, we react to The Athletic naming the Minnesota Wild prospect pool the best in the NHL. We look at how their recent picks are doing, and how Judd Brackett has managed to find quality players without the luxury of top picks. We then attempt to answer why despite current struggles at the NHL level we haven't seen any of those prospects get a call to help the current roster. We discuss the job Bill Guerin has in front of him, with a struggling team, and why evaluating the current roster to see who is a fit beyond this year is the most important part of the season right now. We also discuss whether or not Dean Evason is currently up for evaluation himself. All in All, before Bill Guerin can add future prospects to the mix, he has to find out what works and what doesn't at the NHL level. On today's episode of Locked on Wild, we take a look at recent Wild draft classes to see where they have found late round gems. We start by discussing the overall draft strategy under Chuck Fletcher with the team a perennial playoff contender and their propensity to trade picks for veteran players to fill voids, or to draft players to fill specific spots on the roster. We look at a few instances of players available at the spot the Wild drafted that have performed better than who they selected. We discuss all of this with the caveat that just because a player performed better in one spot that doesn't guarantee success with the Wild. We finish by looking at more recent draft picks and why it feels like the Wild have had more solid selections since Judd Brackett took over. On today's episode of Locked on Wild, we look at Bill Guerin's tenure as Wild GM. Are we confident with his leadership? We discuss free agent signings and trades. The recent trades of Kevin Fiala and Cam Talbot may have seemed like knee jerk moves, but Guerin is doubling down on his team first mentality, which is another thing he has done a good job of instilling since he took over. We also discuss the hiring of Judd Brackett to handle the draft as showing Guerin knows his weaknesses and has no problem finding people to fill those spots. All in all Guerin is building toward the window opening after the buyouts are done and it should be one the Wild take advantage of. On today's episode of Locked on Wild, we break down the rest of Judd Brackett's 2022 NHL Draft class. We look at what each player brings to the table, and some of Brackett's comments on the picks. We discuss Bill Guerin putting his foot down on the Cam Talbot situation, and the different ways his reaction can be looked at. While it's great that he is taking a businesslike approach to being GM, a recent Minnesota coach had a very similar style and it didn't work out in the end. We also look at the Wild not offering Dereck Baribeau a qualifying offer as a sign that it'll be the Jesper Wallstedt show in Iowa this year. We also look at the Wild not offering Dereck Baribeau a qualifying offer as a sign that it'll be the Jesper Wallstedt show in Iowa this year.Subscribe to our YouTube Channel: Locked On WildFollow/Subscribe Anywhere: linktr.ee/LockedOnWildFollow Locked On NHL: linktr.ee/lockedonNHLSupport Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! | Offers from our sponsors: lockedonpodcasts.com/offersBuilt Bar - Built Bar is a protein bar that tastes like a candy bar. A lot happened in the last five days including Kirill Kaprizov drama in Russia, extensions for Jake Middleton & Marc-Andre Fleury, Cam Talbot drama, the entry draft, oh and free agency starts on Wednesday at 11am too. We discussed what's going with Kaprizov: what we know, and what we think is next. We then moved on to discuss the contract extensions and the reaction from Talbot and his agent before finally discussing a few players the Wild could target when Free Agency opens this week. We wrap up with the meat and potatoes of the show recapping another stellar draft from Judd Brackett and Bill Guerin that included Liam Öhgren, Danila Yurov, Hunter Haight, Rieger Lorenz, Mikey Milne, Ryan Healey, David Spacek, and Servác Petrovský. We gave our full breakdowns on each player and where we project them in the lineup once they reach their primes. On today's episode of Locked on Wild, we start by breaking down the Wild and Marc-Andre Fleury coming to terms on a 2 year contract to keep him in Minnesota. We look at whether or not this is a good move for the Wild, if Fleury can improve on his numbers after being acquired by the Wild at the trade deadline, and if there is any friction between the Wild and Cam Talbot for him being moved into a timeshare for starts. We also discuss what this means for both Fleury and Wallstedt moving forward with Fleury's full No Movement Clause. We move to the draft and discuss another very solid first round for Judd Brackett. We put things in context compared to what the Blackhawks got for two of their young players, and look at what both Liam Ohgren and Danila Yurov can bring to the Wild. We also look at the shift from previous regimes always looking to add pieces to this current Wild administration building up an actual core for their post buyout roster. On today's episode of Locked on Wild, we discuss the news that the Wild will receive an additional 2nd round compensatory draft pick for not signing Filip Johansson. We look at what led to Johansson not panning out with the Wild, and if there were other players they should have selected instead. We also look at the Wild's recent first round draft history, with the few picks before Johansson not being absolute hits either. But we turn to the years after Johansson and see that the Wild have done a better job with landing first round hits in Matt Boldy, Marco Rossi and Jesper Wallstedt. We also look at how Judd Brackett has done since joined the Wild's front office. On today's episode of Locked on Wild, we start by looking at recent comments by Bill Guerin and a couple of recent articles suggesting the Wild will not look to add a goalie at the trade deadline. We look at what Philadelphia wants in return for Claude Giroux. Is the price too high? For the Wild, with so many prospects close to playing at the NHL level, would it still cost prospects beyond one of those players? While it may be, the Wild will certainly still keep an eye on other potential upgrades. We move to Jack McBain, who reportedly is looking to sign elsewhere. The Wild have set a price for his rights, will they get it? If they do, Judd Brackett could potentially have 3 picks in round 2 in the NHL Draft. Is this better than having a proven player instead? This option gives Brackett plenty of assets to move up the board if he needs to, especially if the Wild hang onto this year's first round pick. We finish by previewing tonight's game. The Wild will be at full strength, so there is nothing else to prevent this team from snapping their skid. Will they tonight? We look at whether or not Cam Talbot will bounce back, and if the Wild's special teams units need any changes to improve better. At the end of the day, even if the Wild lose, if they look better we will consider it progress. The guys are all back together in Episode 12! It's our first episode of the New Year but Mitch is.... stuck in Montana? Why? And what are kids missing out on by having the World Juniors postponed? And how about the scouts around the world? And then we talk with Minnesota Wild Director of Amateur Scouting Judd Brackett, who talks about what scouts look for in players, why some players don't pan out and he shares horror stories from the road. Also -- it sounds like we're going to be heading to Cape Cod this summer...
On today's episode of Locked on Wild, we dive into the Wild's 2021 Draft Class with Gabe Foley of Recruit Scouting. We start with some overall draft thoughts, and whether shortening the draft is a good idea. We move to Jesper Wallstedt. Does Gabe think he has what it takes to become a quality NHL starter? What can we expect from Carson Lambos? How big of a home run pick was Jack Peart in the second round? We then move to the remaining picks for the Wild and wonder who between Caedan Bankier, Kyle Masters, Josh Pillar and Nate Benoit has the best chance of making it to the NHL level. Gabe also gives his thoughts on the floors and ceilings of each selection. All in all a GREAT weekend for Bill Guerin, Judd Brackett and the rest of the Wild draft team!Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!BetOnline AGThere is only 1 place that has you covered and 1 place we trust.
