Episode 21 — Life Beyond Porn — The Pearl to be Snatched from the Murky Abyss____________________________________________________Every mindful man eventually faces this question: how do we navigate our relationship with sexuality in a world saturated with pornographic imagery? If you want to feel masterful with your sexual impulses and desires, porn is a universe, a likely addiction, with which you must grapple. There's no getting away from it. It's archetypal:Turns out both Zan and I found a trolley-stash of adult magazines in the woods where we lived as kids. Imagine: eleven years old, that first look. The beauty of women… in all its naked forms!Perhaps you still feel the original delight of it to this day. That sense of discovery and awe!But as the years pass, our relationship to porn typically darkens. And most men, desiring a more conscious path through life, realize they must leave the images, the videos, behind. In fact the consensus in good men's work today is that pornography is wholly negative—a work of the devil!—and that we must rid ourselves of such habits as quick as we can. But within this blanket judgment, is there a soul of porn, a pearl, a gift, that might get left behind?A trace of that original mischief? A key to our libido and vitality?Anti-venom for our sexual shame? Before throwing out the baby with the bathwater, Zan and I explore some nuanced views about porn—including what we've discovered about reclaiming the erotic imagination beyond the screen. This is a topic we've never explored in public before. You'll walk away with fresh perspectives on how to navigate the worlds of sexual imagery.Enjoy the show.~ Jordan____________________________________________________Come join us! John Petrides, portfolio manager at Tocqueville Asset Management, says that today's heightened volatility should have investors spreading their bets, "because the world is so unsettled right now that it's hard to have conviction to lean into one position, one asset class or one investment all on one side of the boat at one time." He says the market has ridden out a storm but isn't settled, and investors will want to extend their international investments to get good values, but will want to capitalize on premiums currently available in bonds, will want to diversify geopolitical risk with gold and will want to be selective on domestic stocks as they watch the tariff and economic situations play out. Plus journalist Sara Bongiorni, who wrote a book in 2007 called “A Year Without Made in China,” which chronicled her efforts to simply avoid goods made in China for 12 months, discusses how hard she thinks it will be for Americans to minimize the impact of tariff policies, noting that certain industries — from shoes to lamps to the materials needed to celebrate July 4 — are virtually impossible to buy from any place but China, and she notes that the efforts it takes to avoid Chinese goods also can be extreme, leaving consumers with no easy alternatives.

TIMELINES V: Summary [Seasons 1-4 {Enter The Multiverse, Pre-Legends} The Teds: Initially, they are described as "wooks," or "Shirtless Party Boys" attending festivals and using mind-altering substances. They're depicted as fraternity brothers and recent UCLA graduates. The Psychonauts: This is a group that the Teds become involved with, seemingly due to their accidental encounters with interdimensional phenomena at festivals. Interdimensional Travel: The Teds frequently stumble into wormholes, teleportals, time warps, and other anomalies, often due to the music at the festivals they attend. This leads them to alternate realities and dimensions. Dillon Francis: He is also involved and acts as an alternate "Ted" or works with them as part of "The QuadraSquad." He helps with recruitment and search-and-rescue missions. DJing and Secret Missions: Chak Chel and Dillon Francis train the Teds in DJing, which they use to open time warps and communicate covertly. Ascension and The Final Battle: As the Teds progress, they become more involved with the Psychonauts and prepare for "The Final Battle," which involves multiple battles across different realities. "TED" Universe: There's a concept of a "TED" universe where everything and everyone is "Ted," which collides with other concepts like "Everyone's A DJ." Kandi Culture: There's a section that discusses kandi culture and the idea of trading versus selling kandi. Chak Chel's Bedtime Stories: Chak Chel tells stories about multidimensional adventures with titles like "Honey, I Killed Myself" and "DILLONCEPTION." : There's a character named [redacted] who experiences ascension and exists in multiple realities. Multidimensional Experiences: The document delves into themes of multidimensionality, time travel, and altered states of consciousness, often within the context of music festivals and rave culture. Meta Commentary: There are sections that seem to be meta-commentary on the writing process, characters, and the overall project. Mental Health: There are sections that delve into mental health themes, including discussions of suicide, depression, and anxiety. "Wait and see" is the approach for the bond market, says Charles Schwab's Kathy Jones. Tariff and policy uncertainty is the main culprit behind the lack of conviction in movement, as Kathy points to the 10-year yield staying stuck between a 4.2 and 4.3 range. We believe all neighborhoods deserve to be covered in a meaningful way.We amplify positive stories, cover development and local school council meetings and serve as watchdogs in neighborhoods often ostracized by traditional news media.Ground-level coverageOur neighborhood-based reporters don't parachute in once to cover a story. They are in the neighborhoods they cover every day building relationships over time with neighbors. We believe this ground-level approach not only builds community but leads to a more accurate portrayal of a neighborhood.Stories that matter to you — every daySince our launch five years ago, we've published more than 25,000 stories from the neighborhoods, covered hundreds of community meetings and send daily and neighborhood newsletters to more than 130,000 Chicagoans. Elijah lived in a very complicated time. This week we dig into the context that informs the narrative.
The Flood is one of the most well-known stories in the entire Bible; and yet thanks to children's books, there's a lot of confusion about the flood and what the Bible says actually happened. Join us today as we look into why God sent the flood and what Noah's preparations entailed. DISCUSSION AND STUDY QUESTIONS: Genesis 6 1. Why is the account of the flood not a cute children's story? What was the real point of the flood? 2. What do verses 1 to 4 show us about the kind of civilization mankind created? Why did this civilization need to be destroyed? 3. What does it mean, in verse 5, that every intent of the thoughts of man's heart was evil continually? Is this still true today? How does this refute the belief that man is basically good? 4. How should we understand the statement in verse 6 that the Lord was grieved He made mankind? How does this statement sit with you? Why? 5. Why do you think the Lord concluded it was necessary to “blot out” or “wipe” away mankind (in verse 7)? 6. How does the word “cover” in verse 14 help us understand the concept of “atonement” that is discussed throughout the Bible? 7. What is the importance of God establishing His covenant with Noah, in verse 18? The study said this covenant inherently included “mercy”? How and why was this a demonstration of God's mercy? 8. Think about your own life. If the Lord was looking for someone who would immediately and fully obey His Word, would He choose you? Why or why not? If you don't think so, how about seeking the Lord, right now, that you might have a heart that would obey Him in the same way that Noah does in Genesis 6? 9. As you reflect on this opening chapter of the flood, is there any place in your life that grieves God? If so, how can you seek His grace to turn from that sin? This week, in Fort Pierce, Florida, a missing attorney has a lot of enemies, but when he's found in a hurricane shelter, burned with acid, it seems like a true mystery. Then a woman, with a major criminal past, comes forward with a horrifying story of a truly awful murder, involving equal parts cruelty & stupidity. Will she be believed, or was she the real killer??Along the way, we find out that oysters shooters pair well with local bands, that attorneys don't always follow the law, and that nothing that can be bought at a grocery store can completely burn a body away!!New episodes every Thursday!Donate at: patreon.com/crimeinsports or go to paypal.com and use our email: crimeinsports@gmail.comGo to shutupandgivememurder.com for all things Small Town Murder & Crime In Sports!Follow us on...twitter.com/@murdersmallfacebook.com/smalltownpodinstagram.com/smalltownmurderAlso, check out James & Jimmie's other show, Crime In Sports! Last week, we heard about Roderick McLean who was sent to prison when police and customs officers captured a gang of eight drug smugglers off the Caithness coast. During the raid customs officer Alastair Souter was killed when he fell and was crushed between a customs cutter and the gang's boat. The drugs haul netted three tons of cannabis, valued at £10 million. McLean, the gang leader, was convicted and sentenced to 28 years in prison. This week we follow McLean in prison, but not for long as he soon escaped - was this with the help of the Security Services? - and his death in a seedy hostel in Streatham, London. We discover that his death poses many more questions than answers.Find out more about the UK True Crime Podcast:https://uktruecrime.comSupport me at Patreon:https://www.patreon.com/UKTrueCrimeSourcesThe Death Of Roddy McLean - UK True Crime Hosted on Acast.
