Asked often about career highlights and my favorite guests. Without a doubt Larry King is at the top of my list. One of the few that intimidated me over the years. LOVED when he would come in. He had no problem answering any question including the famous, "what happened to the groceries?" Picked out a few moments for the podcast. From the Opie and Anthony show you'll hear the first time we interviewed Larry King, the next day when we had Patrice O'Neal in discussing how cool Larry was. Then a couple quick clips from the Opie and Jim Norton show where he busted all our balls including Judd Apatow, Kevin Brennan and Tom Papa and him talking about Trump. One of the true Kings of Broadcasting. Enjoy! VIDEO of Larry King busting our balls - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WOhTjd3qPe0 See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
¡Hola verano! Grew up Montana. Dad was a Protestant minister. Also building project manager for the churches he built and laborer Looked for faith based college and selected Mid America Nazarene to attend in Olathe. They had math, physics and computer sciences, subjects that interested Cliff. First job was with King Radio in Olathe as a software engineers. Networked his way into the organization through professors he had taken classes from in school. As a kid no one in big or small cities had computers back then. Just starting to see revolution in society. Basic existence. Went outside, played, and lived near grass airstrip airport and watched the planes. Lot of hunting and fishing. Carried those interests over the years. Met eventual founders of Garmin at King Radio, Gary Burrell and Min Kao. Smaller organization and Cliff learned from Min, who was a PHD in systems and electronics engineering. Interacted from Gary from time to time on the business side. Gary called Cliff late at night to ask him to join Garmin. That was his tactic. To call right before someone fell asleep to convince them to do something. Started working in a small strip mall space with two rooms at 95th and Pflumm Learned that Gary and Min were hands on. Gary with the electronics design, Min in the software design. Both had a wealth of knowledge. As time went on over first few years to a decade, learned how they were willing to do any job. Now a days very intentional about their culture. Big believer in culture steering. You guide the culture to where you want it to be. Talk about core values. Repetition important, we are all human and remind about what’s important. Vertical integration: Invest in self, building capabilities that other companies may outsource. Believe from beginning it’s the right thing to do. Built stronger company, with higher profitability. Can leverage technologies and resources across different product lines. Garmin does everything from dogs to airplanes. Five different business segments. Have product lines in each. Over 12,000 employees in 32 countries. Being employee number six, still try to think of it as a small culture. Try to be intentional about trying new things. That creates energy. Can create own stories within organization. Not doing same thing over and over. Like what they do, passionate about markets they serve, purpose, involved in marketplace. That energy from people is infectious. Have to find the right person, that energy and natural curiosity. As CEO, lot more variety. Broader responsibilities. Enjoy that. Miss he technical details and writing software. Leadership style is hands on. Like being involved. Engineer by background. Do what he knows how to do. Products. Rule of keep things simple. Blessed with good business with strong profitability so have cash to invest, don’t have to do more of the exotic things. Not in debt. Invest conservatively. Advice to young people in the tech community: Take advantage of every opportunity. Cliff didn’t touch a computer until college. So many opportunities for kids these days. Be assertive, be curious, be willing to learn new things. Important for young kids to study math and science and the basics so equipped to take on anything. Like the Midwest culture of Kansas City. Hard working, honest, sincere people which helps build cultures like Garmin. Can be tougher to recruit to KC. But people have connections and hear about the area and once they see it and experience it they realize KC has the affordable housing and good education Garmin announced in 2016 more than a $200M investment to expand their aviation production, more than doubling capacity. Plus increase distribution space. Distribute all products from own facility. Like their own Amazon. Ability to sell big and small things. Take occupancy of new building in June. Story always being written. Ten years ago known as the auto company with the devices put on windshield of the car. 75 percent o

Today is the Iowa Caucuses when the first votes are cast in the 2016 Presidential election! But what exactly is a Caucus? And why does Iowa get to be the first? Is it different from a Primary? Does the weather really affect caucus results? Can a candidate win Iowa without loving ethanol? And what the heck is a "full Grassley?" We'll answer all of these questions and I take a comprehensive look at the Iowa Caucuses with my guests today - Congressman Steve King, nationally syndicated radio host Steve Deace, and Dr. Cody Hoefert Co-Chairman of the Iowa GOP. The Motivational King Radio Show Presents "You Attract What You Are Not What You Pretend To Be". We all want to attract the successes and people in our lives that will make our lives the best, but the way in which you think determine who and what will be in our lives. We all at some time or another pretend that we are something that we are not and when we attract that in which is the complete opposite of what we pretend to be we get upset with our results. You must truly become what it is that you wish to obtain ahead of you actually obtaining that in which you seek. If you do the opposite you will only attract that in which you currently are and no more. This week we will dive into becoming who you should be despite your current situations and circumstances that you currently face. Its your season to walk into your purpose and attract the situations and people you desire in your life and it begins right here and right now!
