In 2002, professional soccer player Ethan Zohn won Africa: Survivor, netting himself a $1 million dollar prize and overnight fame. But it was his subsequent battle against cancer that made him a true survivor, and also opened his eyes to the therapeutic power of cannabis. As you'll hear in our interview, Ethan tried smoking herb just once as a college student, and liked it, but felt he had to put all forms of intoxication aside to focus on his athletic career. Years later, however, the plant would play a profound and central role in his healing journey, which in turn inspired him to become a vocal advocate for medical cannabis. With the World Cup now in full swing, Ethan is taking that message across the country, visiting cities hosting matches and engaging with their weed scenes as part of a new video series called Kicking Back, that's coming soon to the High Times Youtube channel.

If you are a purple patron of TCD (sorry Lucy) then you will have heard some of this before, because we had a chat about the Brave movie (and working with Richard Stanley) in a recent Q&A.Well today we build on that conversation, as we have arrived at that point in our loose 'promo-video-reminiscences' timeline. And because of that slight crossover, now would be a good time to remind you that becoming a supporting patron of the podcast brings with it many benefits. Apart from being part of the 'purple collective', and getting early access to the pod, you will never have a TCD-free week, because in-between producing fortnightly chapters, we deliver extra content to our wonderful supporters. You can learn more by clicking here.Love'n'visual-curiositieshTCD Merch StoreBecome Purple and support the showThe Invisible Man Volume 1: 1991-1997The Invisible Man Volume2: 1998-2014FacebookInstagramWebsite

The Lionesses' Euro victory captivated English football fans – but this success was once unimaginable. In 1921, the English Football Association banned women from playing on any of its pitches, a ban that would remain in place for 50 years. Who were the women who fought back? How did they defy all odds to get the women's game to where it is today? In for Ros Taylor, Jade Bailey talks to Jean Williams, visiting professor at the University of Reading, about the early pioneers of women's football, the ban that prevented them from playing, and reasons to be optimistic about the women's game. “It's really important that women's football began as a professional entertainment, in the same way that men's professional football was at the time.” “In 1921, the FA says that no club that is affiliated with the FA should allow women to play on their grounds, which is every professional and amateur club in the country.” “The business model of women's football totally changes, and it invents a myth that women's football isn't as spectacular as men's, and because people live with that myth for 50 years it still influences what we have today.” “For me, female-owned, female-run, and feminist values are the future of women's football.” Buy Legendary Lionesses: The England Women's Football Team, 1972-2022 through our affiliate bookshop and you'll help fund Jam Tomorrow by earning us a small commission for every sale. Today's guest isn't afraid to speak his mind and is deeply analytical about the world of football. Former Manchester City and Queens Park Rangers defender Nedum Onuoha joins Kate and Jim to reflect on his new book, Kicking Back! With fascinating insight, Nedum pulls back the curtain on dressing room culture and some of its more sinister, insular habits, and discusses why he found the sport to be so resistant to change. Plus, why he fell out with Roberto Mancini, the worst training session he ever saw, and responds to some recent suggestions that QPR threw in the towel against Manchester City on * that * final day in 2012!Nedum's book is now available to order in paperback here! Elliotte is back in the car! The Battle of Alberta lived up to the hype. Jeff and Elliotte react to the Oilers closing out an absolutely wild series…and the controversial disallowed Blake Coleman goal (2:30). Did Markstrom lose the series for Calgary (6:15)? Was something up with Calgary's top line (8:45)? The Flames are now left wondering ‘what's next?'. In the East, Carolina players channel their inner Brind'Amour and keep the home winning streak alive with a big win over New York (12:25), and Trochek finally gets a goal (14:45). Despite a huge game and an incredible goal from Nathan MacKinnon, St Louis pulls off the win in overtime to stay alive (17:25). The guys wonder why have players stopped trying to cross centre ice before shooting for the empty net (20:15), and discuss Tyler Bozak earning his $750k in one shot with the huge game-winner (22:15) to force a Game 6. In non-playoff news, Barry Trotz, John Tortorella and others go through the interview process in Philly as the coaching carousel starts to spin (24:45), and Rick Westhead reports on some awful allegations surrounding hockey Canada (26:45).Get your limited edition 32 Thoughts merchandise line HEREMusic Outro: Skip Waiters - TherapyListen to our 32 Tracks playlist on Amazon Music.
