Survivor: Africa winner Ethan Zohn joins Rev. Dr. Robin Swan for a powerful conversation about cancer, cannabis, resilience and finding purpose after a life-changing diagnosis. Ethan's life had already taken him from professional soccer to winning CBS's Survivor: Africa when, at age 35, he was diagnosed with a rare form of Hodgkin lymphoma. What followed was an intense medical journey involving chemotherapy, radiation, clinical trials and two stem cell transplants. In this episode, Ethan shares his personal experience with medical cannabis and how it became part of the way he managed some of the physical and emotional challenges surrounding cancer treatment and recovery, including nausea, pain, sleep difficulties and anxiety. Ethan and Robin also discuss the changing conversation around cannabis in professional sports, the importance of responsible education and advocacy, and why patients need honest information when making decisions about their health. The conversation goes far beyond cancer. Ethan explains how surviving a life-threatening illness reshaped his sense of purpose and strengthened his commitment to helping others. He discusses Grassroot Soccer, the nonprofit organization he co-founded that uses the power of soccer to improve the health and lives of young people around the world, as well as Kicking Back, his High Times series exploring the intersection of soccer, cannabis and community. In this episode: Ethan's journey from professional soccer to winning Survivor: Africa Being diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma at age 35 Chemotherapy, radiation, clinical trials and two stem cell transplants Ethan's personal experience using cannabis during cancer treatment and recovery Cannabis for nausea, pain, sleep and anxiety The emotional and psychological challenges of cancer survivorship How attitudes toward cannabis are changing in professional sports Cannabis education, responsible use and patient advocacy Turning personal crisis into purpose The story and mission behind Grassroot Soccer Ethan's Kicking Back series with High Times Soccer, cannabis and community Using lived experience to help others facing serious illness Learn more about Ethan Zohn Ethan Zohn:https://ethanzohn.com Grassroot Soccer:https://grassrootsoccer.org Cannabis Health Radio Visit:https://cannabishealthradio.com If this conversation could help someone you know, please share the episode. Ethan Zohn Rewatches Survivor’s First Swap | Survivor Time Trip Watch the podcast on YouTube! Survivor Time Trip is back as Rob Cesternino and Mike Bloom team up with Survivor Africa winner Ethan Zohn to revisit the dramatic first-ever tribe swap in Survivor history. This episode dives headfirst into Survivor Africa (season 3), a pivotal season where alliances are shattered and the game as we know it is turned upside down. Rob and Mike press Ethan for the inside scoop on what it was really like to experience Survivor's earliest—and wildest—twist, while also catching up with Ethan's new soccer and cannabis adventure, Kicking Back. And be sure to check out the first episode of Kicking Back here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Lw9ddOYCsM The spotlight falls on the infamous tribe swap, where Ethan describes the genuine confusion and scramble to predict what the cryptic clue would mean. He relives the mid-game shock that ripped apart safe alliances, explains how his group decided who to send on the mysterious “quest,” and details the fallout for outsider Clarence. The trio also unpacks Survivor's first open discussion about throwing a challenge—how it felt for Ethan as a competitor, and why it was the key to taking out a threat like Silas. They share memories about rough camp life, staggering survival elements in Kenya, and the shift in Survivor culture from hard-working tribe dynamics to today's strategy-focused game. In this episode, Rob, Mike, and Ethan discuss: – How Survivor's original swap changed the game and surprised everyone – Ethan's conflict over throwing challenges and why it was necessary – Extreme survival: close encounters with wildlife, scarce water, and brutal elements – The importance of loyalty and ethics in old-school Survivor – Behind-the-scenes info on challenges, tiebreakers, and memorable moments from camp As season 3's game-changing twist gets its due, the group debates what lessons from Survivor Africa still echo in modern seasons. Can loyalty overcome the chaos of new twists? And would old-school survival skills make a difference in today's gameplay? Tune in to Survivor Time Trip for Ethan's untold stories, Rob and Mike's pointed questions, and an epic re-exploration of Survivor's first and most unforgettable tribe swap! In 2002, professional soccer player Ethan Zohn won Africa: Survivor, netting himself a $1 million dollar prize and overnight fame.  But it was his subsequent battle against cancer that made him a true survivor, and also opened his eyes to the therapeutic power of cannabis.  As you'll hear in our interview, Ethan tried smoking herb just once as a college student, and liked it, but felt he had to put all forms of intoxication aside to focus on his athletic career. Years later, however, the plant would play a profound and central role in his healing journey, which in turn inspired him to become a vocal advocate for medical cannabis.  With the World Cup now in full swing, Ethan is taking that message across the country, visiting cities hosting matches and engaging with their weed scenes as part of a new video series called Kicking Back, that's coming soon to the High Times Youtube channel.

The Lionesses' Euro victory captivated English football fans – but this success was once unimaginable.  In 1921, the English Football Association banned women from playing on any of its pitches, a ban that would remain in place for 50 years. Who were the women who fought back? How did they defy all odds to get the women's game to where it is today? In for Ros Taylor, Jade Bailey talks to Jean Williams, visiting professor at the University of Reading, about the early pioneers of women's football, the ban that prevented them from playing, and reasons to be optimistic about the women's game. “It's really important that women's football began as a professional entertainment, in the same way that men's professional football was at the time.” “In 1921, the FA says that no club that is affiliated with the FA should allow women to play on their grounds, which is every professional and amateur club in the country.” “The business model of women's football totally changes, and it invents a myth that women's football isn't as spectacular as men's, and because people live with that myth for 50 years it still influences what we have today.” “For me, female-owned, female-run, and feminist values are the future of women's football.” Buy Legendary Lionesses: The England Women's Football Team, 1972-2022 through our affiliate bookshop and you'll help fund Jam Tomorrow by earning us a small commission for every sale. Today's guest isn't afraid to speak his mind and is deeply analytical about the world of football. Former Manchester City and Queens Park Rangers defender Nedum Onuoha joins Kate and Jim to reflect on his new book, Kicking Back! With fascinating insight, Nedum pulls back the curtain on dressing room culture and some of its more sinister, insular habits, and discusses why he found the sport to be so resistant to change. Plus, why he fell out with Roberto Mancini, the worst training session he ever saw, and responds to some recent suggestions that QPR threw in the towel against Manchester City on * that * final day in 2012!Nedum's book is now available to order in paperback here! Elliotte is back in the car! The Battle of Alberta lived up to the hype. Jeff and Elliotte react to the Oilers closing out an absolutely wild series…and the controversial disallowed Blake Coleman goal (2:30). Did Markstrom lose the series for Calgary (6:15)? Was something up with Calgary's top line (8:45)? The Flames are now left wondering ‘what's next?'. In the East, Carolina players channel their inner Brind'Amour and keep the home winning streak alive with a big win over New York (12:25), and Trochek finally gets a goal (14:45). Despite a huge game and an incredible goal from Nathan MacKinnon, St Louis pulls off the win in overtime to stay alive (17:25). The guys wonder why have players stopped trying to cross centre ice before shooting for the empty net (20:15), and discuss Tyler Bozak earning his $750k in one shot with the huge game-winner (22:15) to force a Game 6. In non-playoff news, Barry Trotz, John Tortorella and others go through the interview process in Philly as the coaching carousel starts to spin (24:45), and Rick Westhead reports on some awful allegations surrounding hockey Canada (26:45).Get your limited edition 32 Thoughts merchandise line HEREMusic Outro: Skip Waiters - TherapyListen to our 32 Tracks playlist on Amazon Music.
