This week I sit down with Ron Grobman.Ron was the first “Tzabar” (Jewish person born in Israel) of his family which emigrated from the Soviet Union to Israel in 1992. In 2001, Ron's family was relocated to the United States due to his fathers work. At the age of 16, Ron became the youngest certified Krav Maga instructor in the United States through Krav Maga Worldwide. Even though Israel has mandatory military service Ron did not have to serve as he left the country before age fourteen. Nevertheless, Ron always felt a strong connection to his people and his homeland and immediately after high school, joined the Israeli Defense Force. After passing a field fitness evaluation followed by a week-long selection “Gibush” Ron was accepted into the training pipeline for the IAF commando unit, “Shaldag.” Due to injuries sustained during the arduous training Ron dropped out of his original unit and was re-assigned into a special forces reconnaissance unit called Gad'sar Nahal. During his service, Ron attained the rank of 1st sergeant and served as a sniper, with operations on the Gaza and Egyptian border as well as in the Judea and Samaria. Although Ron no longer lives in Israel, he continues to make regular trips to Israel to do his “Milium” reserve service. Shortly after his services Ron completed another instructor certification through International Krav Maga under Gabi Noah, and gained Krav Maga Trainer certification from the Wingate Institute in Israel.Upon his return to the United States Ron worked in New York City as well as metro Detroit teaching Krav Maga to civilians and law enforcement personnel. In 2016 Ron decided to start his own company and founded Tactical Fitness in Austin, TX. The company specializes in training Krav Maga and firearms to civilians, law enforcement, and security personnel worldwide. You can follow Ron and his company at: https://tacticalfitnessaustin.com/Ron's IG account: @tacticalfitnessaustinPlease make sure to follow us on IG: @BKBattleRaedy and @SilverSavageCoaching.As always, thank you all for the follows, shares, and comments.

Randall experienced his first Krav Maga training when attending an 8 hour seminar taught by Krav Maga Worldwide™ chief instructor Darren Levine and lead instructor John Whitman in Seattle, Washington in 1999. He was so impressed with the effectiveness of the system that he wanted to learn more but there were no Krav Maga schools where he lived in Oregon. So he decided to purchase the entire Krav Maga Worldwide™ instructional video set and learn as much as possible on his own. He integrated the techniques into his current martial arts training as well as cross-training for the martial arts students he taught. The feedback from his students in regards to the Krav Maga techniques was overwhelmingly positive! In 2001, he became a Krav Maga Worldwide™ licensee. That year he completed and passed his first level of instructor training in Jacksonville, Florida and has taught Krav Maga classes ever since. He has continued to train through the higher levels of instructor training at various locations throughout the country, including the Krav Maga Worldwide™ National Training Center in Los Angeles, California. Francisco Betancourt is back! A new Krav Maga Worldwide black belt, Francisco tells us all about his journey and has some encouraging words for those of us on the path.
Francisco Betancourt is a brown belt through Krav Maga Worldwide and the guy who is helping me along that path every week. He likes to pretend he is empty of sentiment, but he's one of the sweetest, dog-lovingest, violent people I know. In this episode, we talk about his early life as an Army brat, the difficulty of finding a community to belong to, and a tragedy that changed his life trajectory.
I get to have a great conversation with Jeff Mount. He's a third-degree black belt in Krav Maga, the chief instructor and director of operations at Krav Maga Maryland, and a trainer of other Krav Maga Worldwide instructors, which is how I first met him. He's extremely thoughtful about training, particularly about training other instructors. Pretend there's a fist emoji and a heart emoji in this description.
Still being basically a newbie to the practice and culture of muay thai I am particularly proud to present this month’s topic in the podcast. Since my introduction to combat sports in Feburary 2015, I have always been amazed by and grateful for the brilliant coaches and trainers I’ve been blessed to have access to. From the amazing family at Krav Maga Worldwide and my first muay thai coach Akkim Lee (A4 Fitness) to the world class veterans like coach David Huey & Kru Santi (Muay Thai Gym America) coach David Huerta (Robot Fight & Fitness) Kru Vicktor (Thai Boxing Institute) and Kru Rod Mckiver (Team Victory Muay Thai); I find it imperative to celebrate and investigate the persons whom we call “coach” and “kru”.
Travel safely this spring break with tips from a Krav Maga expert.Spring break is perfect for travel. But, the freedom you feel when escaping the daily grind can lead to carelessness. It's important to be on guard when traveling so you are able to enjoy your trip and stay safe. Here are some tips: Get a map, know where you are and where you're going. Research the area ahead of time. Dress to blend in if you are traveling abroad. Don't dress as a target. Be attentive to what's going on around you. Don't walk with your nose in your phone when you're away from home. Don't trust everyone you see. Be confident. Walk with confidence. If you meet a stranger and feel there is a connection, be confident with your boundaries. Know to strike when necessary. Be willing to get physical if you must. If someone wants your property, give it up. If someone tries to move you, hit them as hard as you can. It may take multiple strikes, and you must fight as long as your attacker fights until you can escape. The safest thing you can do is flee. The martial art of Krav Maga focuses on vulnerable areas, attacking with speed and explosiveness. It doesn't depend on strength and size. Learning some basic Krav Maga moves can improve your self-defense skills and give you more confidence in new places. It prepares you to protect yourself.Listen in as Kelly Campbell of Krav Maga Worldwide shares tips for your travel safety.
