The Evolution of Startups Navigating the US Health Ecosystem Host Goel Jasper speaks with Noga Devecseri Spira, Tech Practice Co-lead and Partner at Naschitz Brandes Amir, about how the Israeli startup ecosystem has evolved during her 25 years in the space. Spira also discusses the biggest mistake a healthtech startup can make, and when it's the right time to begin speaking with an attorney about a new venture. Topics discussed include: The Evolution of Startups Navigating the US Health Ecosystem 1. Israeli Startup Ecosystem Evolution Over the last 25 years, Israeli startups have evolved from focusing solely on innovation to considering business strategies, reimbursement, and regulatory pathways. Initially, the emphasis was on IT infrastructure and medical records; now, AI and digital health solutions are at the forefront. 2. Importance of Speed and Agility Silicon Valley culture taught Spira that startups must act quickly due to limited windows of opportunity. Negotiations, particularly with hospitals, must be accelerated as slow-moving processes can hinder startup success. AI developments make rapid market entry even more critical. 3. Israeli vs. US Business Mindsets Earlier, Israeli startups assumed the US system operated similarly to Israel's, which was a mistake. Today, they are more sophisticated, considering regulatory pathways, payment structures, and commercialization early on. Stronger networks now exist between Israeli and US healthtech ecosystems. 4. Role of Legal Strategy in Startups Engaging with a legal team early is crucial to establishing proper structures for intellectual property, liability, and compliance. Delayed legal structuring can lead to costly mistakes. NBA (Naschitz Brandes Amir) allows flexible fee arrangements to support early-stage startups. 5. Balancing PR and Intellectual Property Protection Startups should promote the benefits of their product without revealing their “secret sauce.” Intellectual property must be protected before publicly discussing innovations. Each startup needs a tailored approach to balancing visibility and confidentiality. 6. Common Startup Mistake: Monetization Challenges Many startups fail to establish a solid monetization and reimbursement strategy. Even if a product has a strong ROI, hospitals may not have the budget to adopt it. Startups must align with institutional priorities and understand reimbursement models from the outset. 7. The Role of the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) in Innovation Military service fosters leadership, confidence, and a culture of risk-taking and problem-solving, which translates into entrepreneurship. The IDF's emphasis on responsibility and adaptability plays a significant role in shaping the Israeli innovation mindset. 8. When to Engage a Law Firm Startups should seek legal guidance from day one to avoid costly structural mistakes. Early decisions on intellectual property ownership, liability, and compliance can impact funding and potential acquisitions. NBA supports startups from formation through IPO and beyond. Final Thought Entrepreneurs should reach out to experienced legal teams early to ensure proper structuring and risk mitigation as they scale. Remember the Liberty - Almost Sunk by Treason on the High SeasAugust 26In the annals of US military history, there are no doubt many unsolved and perplexing mysteries, but few could compare to the fate of the US Navy spy ship that was mercilessly attacked by one of its closest allies intentionally and without warning. One of the reasons it is still a mystery is because it is also the only peacetime attack on a US naval vessel that, to this day, has never been investigated by the Congress of the United States. The USS Liberty was a 455-foot, 10,150-ton electronic intercept spy ship, originally a standard-design Victory Ship--a more evolved version of the World War II Liberty Ships--which were built as supply ships, not intended for direct fighting. The Liberty had been converted to an Auxiliary Technical Research Ship (AGTR), known colloquially as a "spy ship," first deployed in 1965; its top speed was only 18 knots.Yet the Liberty's fate, one of the most enigmatic, unresolved military mysteries of all time, is, paradoxically at its core, quite clear-cut and undisputed. The basic facts generally accepted by all are that, on the fourth day of the Six Day War between Israel and its Arab neighbors (Egypt, Syria and Jordan), the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) savagely attacked the U.S. spy ship, the USS Liberty. On the warm, sunny-bright day of June 8, 1967, starting at about 6:00 a.m., at least twelve, possibly thirteen Israeli aircraft of different types began surveilling the Liberty, some of which were only 1,000 feet or less in altitude, apparently to photograph and "map" her for later targeting purposes. The precision of the later attack could only have been accomplished through such pre-planning, specifically identifying the priority targets, starting with the gun mounts to render the ship defenseless, followed by all of the forty-five different radio antennae and related transmitting equipment. . Beginning just before 2:00 p.m., three unmarked French-built Mirage III-C swept-wing fighter jets, without warning, settled into a triangular formation, aimed straight at the Liberty and proceeded to bore down on the ship in a fast low-level attack that began with rockets targeted at the four gun mounts and heat-seeking missiles aimed at the communications gear, with their warmed transmitters. . When the attack was over, thirty-four men were dead and one hundred seventy-four were injured to varying degrees, some near death.Unlike all other books ever written about the tragic attack - none of which provide a satisfactory explanation of what really caused it - Remember the Liberty! examines it in complete context of how it was positioned there by Johnson himself, for the very purpose of being attacked, and sunk, with every one of the 294 men on board going to the bottom of the Mediterranean Sea. His purpose was to use that event - while blaming Egyptian President Gamal Nasser for the attack - as a pretext for joining Israel in the war, even at the risk of igniting World War III with the Soviet Union. This book provides the only realistic explanation for why Lyndon Johnson did what he did, and why, in the heat of battle, he intervened with his Navy officers who were determined to rescue the Liberty and ordered them to recall the squadrons of fighter jets they had already dispatched - twice, 90 minutes apart - for that purpose. When the heroic crew saved the ship from sinking, it stopped Johnson's plan to join Israel in the war and thereby saved the world from certain nuclear conflagration. It also prevented his strategy of entering what he felt would be a "popular war" (unlike his other one in Vietnam) in order to give him a better chance to be reelected president the following year. When that failed to materialize, so did his reelection campaign; ten months later he was forced to announce his decision to not re-run for the office that he had always considered his destiny.bookBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-opperman-report--1198501/support.
Join Jim and Greg as they offer two good martinis and a lousy one. Today, they discuss Israel's creative, non-violent strategy against Hezbollah, Kamala Harris's team fretting over key "blue wall" states, and how abortion has re-emerged as a leading issue in the 2024 campaign.First, they break down Israel's clever tactic of outing a Hezbollah bunker hidden beneath a hospital in Beirut. The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) publicly announced the location and stated there was a lot of money and gold stored there. Jim and Greg explain why this is a brilliant move that puts Hezbollah in a tough position. They also have fun speculating on which Hollywood movie this situation resembles most.Next, Jim highlights his “Morning Jolt” report about the Harris campaign's concerns in battleground states. They reveal that Michigan, North Carolina, and Wisconsin are causing serious worry for Democrats. Greg and Jim explain why Harris is struggling in Michigan and urge conservatives to focus on voter turnout, rather than being distracted by political betting odds. Finally, they react to Newsweek's report that abortion is now the second most important issue for voters. While the economy still holds the top spot and immigration is close behind, abortion's prominence is seen as a political advantage for Democrats. Meanwhile, Republicans continue to fumble for a cohesive message. Jim and Greg also share their thoughts on some of the most absurd arguments Democrats are making against Trump. Please visit our great sponsors:BetterHelphttps://betterhelp.com/3MLVisit the 3ML website for 10% of your first month. In today's episode, we challenge the false narratives spread by propaganda that depict the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) as assassins and murderers. Are these accusations based on facts, or are they part of a broader effort to demonize Israel? We take a closer look at the truth behind these claims, exposing the stark contrast between propaganda and reality. A special thanks to the IDF soldiers and their families for the immense sacrifices they make in defending Israel and its people, serving with courage, dedication, and integrity.

In May 1976, four terrorists hijacked an aeroplane as it took off from Athens airport. Most of the passengers were Israeli or Jewish. After a stop-off in Libya, the plane was flown to Uganda where, in front of the world's media, the next few days played out like some weird and unreal film. Would the Israelis comply with the terrorists' demands? Would the hostages be executed? Or – most unlikely of all – would the powers that be in Israel attempt a daring rescue mission? Those few days at Entebbe have been written about extensively since then. Films and documentaries have been produced, recounting these astonishing events. Many speak of the military daring and ingenuity of the Israelis. What they accomplished defied all logic. And yet few view this amazing event in the light of Bible prophecy. The Father promised to preserve His people. He stated openly that the might of the enemy would come to nought. That His children would survive, against all the odds. And for those with “eyes to see”, the Israeli soldiers' actions at Entebbe demonstrate this principle to be true for, as God has promised, “no weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper” Operation Thunderbolt, which took place in July 1976, was a daring rescue mission carried out by the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) to save Israeli hostages held by terrorists at Entebbe Airport in Uganda. While the operation displayed remarkable military precision and strategic planning, we can appreciate that divine intervention was key to the success of the mission. As detailed in this study, one can find many aspects within the event that could be seen as demonstrations of extraordinary circumstances aligning in favor of the rescue mission. The crisis began on June 27, 1976, when an Air France plane with 248 passengers was hijacked by members of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) and the German Revolutionary Cells. The terrorists redirected the aircraft to Entebbe Airport, where they held the Israeli passengers hostage while releasing non-Israeli passengers. Some notable elements include: Intelligence: The IDF obtained crucial intelligence about the location and layout of the airport, as well as the positions and capabilities of the terrorists. This information was instrumental in planning the mission and ensuring the element of surprise. Strategic Planning: Israeli forces meticulously planned and rehearsed the operation, taking into account the unique challenges they would face, such as the long distance from Israel and the need to navigate hostile territory. Internal and International Support: Israel's Prime Minister at the time, Yitzhak Rabin, displayed strong leadership and authorized the mission. Additionally, Israel received vital assistance from friendly nations, including the provision of old airport blueprints and refuelling support from Kenya. Speed and Precision: The IDF executed the operation with remarkable speed, allowing them to neutralize the terrorists, free the hostages, and evacuate them within a short timeframe. The precision of their assault minimized casualties and maximized the chances of success. Surprise and Decisiveness: The terrorists, as well as Ugandan dictator Idi Amin, were caught off guard by the Israeli raid. The element of surprise greatly contributed to the success of the operation. ******* This video was produced by the ChristadelphianVideo.org project, You can follow us online at.. #1 Our Main site... https://cdvideo.org #2 Our podcast on Podbean... https://cdvideo.org/podcast #3 Our podcast on Apple...https://cdvideo.org/podcast-apple #4 Our podcast on Anchor...https://cdvideo.org/truth-talk #5 Our facebook...https://facebook.com/OpenBibles #6 Our Whats App... http://cdvideo.org/WhatsApp #7 Our Instagram... http://cdvideo.org/Instagram #8 Our twitter... http://cdvideo.org/twitter Related to: No Weapon Formed Against Thee Shall Prosper https://youtu.be/aXIm79cOZIE
Israel and its lobby today try to conflate the state with Jews around the world, that it speaks for Jews and encompasses the entire diaspora. Richard Silverstein, author and journalist of the Tikun Olam blog, says that this couldn’t be further from the truth. As the genocide in Gaza rages on, along with the killing of Israeli citizens and the mass torture of Palestinians, the support for Israel among Jews, particularly the younger generation, will continue to falter as the state itself plunges deeper into despair. Silverstein speaks to host Robert Scheer on this episode of the Scheer Intelligence podcast to detail his relationship with Israel and Zionism and how his views have evolved over time, ultimately leading to a complete disconnection from the state, especially in light of the ongoing genocide, and now calling himself an anti-Zionist. Being raised Jewish and earning degrees from Jewish Theological Seminary and Columbia University, as well as studying Hebrew literature at the Hebrew University in Israel, Silverstein makes clear: “[F]or you and for me and for most American Jews, Judaism is not genocide in Gaza, is not $20 billion or $80 billion in arms being sent by the US to Israel to kill Palestinians. That's not the kind of Judaism that I represent.” Not only is the genocide a driving force behind the alienation of the Israel state but also the way it treats its own citizens, looking at them as expendable in its objective to kill Hamas operators. Silverstein refers to the Hannibal Directive, a procedure used by the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) to prevent the capture of soldiers by killing them and their captors. “[Y]ou now have a code that is expanded to also killing your own civilians. And that's, I think, what is even more profoundly upsetting, disturbing about the way in which Hannibal is being used right now,” Silverstein tells Scheer. Torture and rape of Palestinian prisoners is also something that has emerged from Israel’s onslaught on Gaza and the West Bank, according to Silverstein. “We have Palestinians in Gaza who were swept up in detention raids and brought to concentration camps, really, in Israel, and there they're tortured,” he states. Silverstein insists that what is happening in Gaza does not represent Judaism worldwide like Israel claims, and that “American Judaism needs to stand on its own.” American Jews, Silverstein says, “really have to separate [themselves] from the hostility, the anger, the violence that Israel represents.”
On Sunday morning, around 100 Israeli warplanes launched airstrikes targeting hundreds of rocket launchers across southern Lebanon; Israel said its attack preempted a planned offensive from Hezbollah. Shortly after, Hezbollah launched hundreds of rockets and drones it said were targeting military bases and missile defense positions in the Israeli-controlled Golan Heights and across Northern Israel. Hezbollah claimed the attack successfully hit its targets, while the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) said it was “mostly” thwarted, causing light damage to some homes while one Israeli sailor was killed by missile shrapnel. At least three people were killed amid the Israeli strikes, according to the Lebanese Health Ministry, including a fighter from the Hezbollah-allied group Amal. You can read today's podcast here, our “Under the Radar” story here and today's “Have a nice day” story here. You can watch the entire Tangle Live event at City Winery NYC on our YouTube Channel!Today's clickables: Correction (1:00), Quick hits (2:11), Today's story (3:49), Right's take (7:57), Left's take (10:55), International Writer's Take (13:15), Isaac's take (15:54), Questions Answered (21:03), Under the Radar (23:25), Numbers (24:16), Have a nice day (25:24)You can subscribe to Tangle by clicking here or drop something in our tip jar by clicking here. Imagine a national army that serves not just to defend a country but to shape its very identity—welcome to the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF). We promise to unravel the reasons behind the Haredim's refusal to serve in the IDF, exploring the army's role in promoting Zionist ideology and its mission to culturally and ideologically reform its soldiers. Drawing from historical insights and controversial perspectives, we challenge the notion of the IDF as merely a conventional military force and delve into its deeper purpose.Ever wondered what it means to be Israeli in a nation where citizenship and nationality aren't synonymous? This conversation extends to the broader socio-political implications of military service, revealing the unequal burdens placed on different segments of Israeli society. The episode also critiques the creation of a synthesized Jewish identity through both the Israeli education system and the IDF, questioning the historical narrative that ties Jews to a national self-determination movement.Join us as we navigate the ideological divides within Israeli society, focusing on the tension between secular, Zionist, and Orthodox Jewish cultures. From the perspectives of former Knesset member Mikhail Ben-Ari to the experiences of diverse communities, we expose the ongoing battle between Zionism and traditional Judaism. Discover how the IDF has historically functioned as a melting pot, reshaping Jewish identity and what it means to be Israeli, all while contending with claims of religious indoctrination and cultural assimilation. Greg J. Stoker, he shares his personal journey from being a military participant in US imperialism to an anti-imperialist activist. He critiques the morality and effectiveness of US wars, specifically the Obama administration's drone strike policy and the lack of accountability for civilian casualties. Stoker also discusses his concerns over Israel's military actions, including the use of controversial weapons like white phosphorus and medieval siege weapons, and their strategic unsoundness. The conversation also covers the concept of different generations of warfare, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and the ongoing war in Ukraine, with a focus on the role of the US and Israel. Stoker argues that resistance movements, such as those in Ukraine, suffer more casualties due to a lack of resources and advanced technology, and that the war in Ukraine lacks a clear exit strategy or defined objectives. He also touches upon the role of China and Russia in global affairs and their involvement in resource extraction in countries like the Congo. Throughout the discussion, Stoker sheds light on the complexities and ethical dilemmas of military involvement in foreign conflicts. Today, the U.S. military resumes airdrops of aid in Gaza, and U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken arrived in the Middle East to push for a ceasefire. Blinken met with Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi in Cairo, emphasizing the need for Hamas to agree to President Joe Biden's ceasefire proposal, which Israel has already accepted. Over the weekend, a botched Israeli rescue operation in Nuseirat resulted in the deaths of 274 Palestinians. The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) dispute the numbers, estimating the casualties are under 100. The operation was condemned internationally for the high civilian death toll. In response to the situation, Israeli War Cabinet Minister Benny Gantz resigned, criticizing Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's strategy in Gaza. Palestinian Authority leader Mahmoud Abbas called for an emergency UN council session to discuss the incident, describing it as a gruesome massacre. Leaders from Egypt, Lebanon, Iran, and Kuwait are also condemning the strikes, calling them a breach of international law and demanding accountability. Learn more about your ad choices. Could the recent upheavals in Iran fulfill ancient biblical prophecies? Tune in as Bill Salus & Tom Hughes talk about an Urgent Prophecy Update, unraveling the connections between today's geopolitical events and the scriptures from Jeremiah 49, Isaiah, Zephaniah, Obadiah, and Psalms. We begin with the stunning news of Raisi's helicopter crash and the subsequent removal of key Iranian leaders, exploring whether these developments signal a divine orchestration. As Iran nears nuclear capability, we examine Israel's strategic military responses and their potential alignment with end-time scenarios. Iran is ancient Persia & Elam in the Table of Nations in Genesis 10.Drawing insightful parallels between biblical narratives and current events, we discuss the providential nature of these occurrences. By referencing Daniel 2:21, we contemplate divine intervention in the removal of Iranian leaders, akin to the biblical story of Haman's downfall in the Book of Esther. We delve into the notion of retributive justice from Genesis 12, which underscores the principle of blessing those who bless the Jewish people and cursing those who oppose them. This segment also addresses the prophetic destruction of Damascus as predicted in Isaiah 17, and its implications for Israel's future. Our discussion broadens to include the prophecy of Elam and its potential to ignite military conflicts, with a focus on the hopeful outlook of Iranian Christians. We highlight the significant role of the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) as prophesied in Zechariah 12 and their divine-supported defense of Jerusalem. The episode concludes with a heartfelt prayer for those affected by severe weather, and a commitment for further enlightening conversations with Bill Salus. Sometimes, what's going on in our world can bring out the worst in people. How can we as Catholics be people of peace and hope? A listener named Christine from Detroit shares her deep feelings of sympathy and distress over the suffering of innocent Palestinians amidst the conflicts in Israel. She questions whether it's wrong as a Catholic to feel anger and sympathy towards these injustices, particularly the impact on children. Patrick Madrid reassures Christine that feeling sympathy towards innocent Palestinians is not only appropriate but a reflection of our Christian duty to empathize with the suffering. He emphasizes that such feelings align perfectly with our values, particularly the call to recognize the dignity and worth of every human life, irrespective of one's background or nationality. Patrick also shares his personal experiences, which have led him to form a significant connection with Palestinian communities, noting his interactions have primarily been with Palestinians, both Christian and Muslim. It's not black and white all the time. He highlights the complexity of the situation—condemning the actions of Hamas and other extremists while also criticizing any actions by the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) that harm innocent lives. Importantly, Patrick navigates the delicate balance of supporting Israel's right to exist and defend itself, while also advocating for the fundamental rights and protections of Palestinian civilians caught in the crossfire. He calls out the misguided activism of some, particularly on college campuses, who may not fully grasp the complexities of the conflict or may be driven by extremist ideologies rather than a genuine concern for human rights. What can Catholics do? Reflecting on Patrick's insights, Catholics are encouraged to maintain a balanced perspective, informed by a commitment to peace and justice. This includes praying for all affected, advocating for peaceful solutions, and educating oneself on the realities of the conflict to avoid being swayed by biased narratives. It's about holding fast to a hope for peace, supporting efforts that respect the dignity of all involved, and prayerfully standing in solidarity with those who suffer, all while seeking wisdom and guidance on how to effectively contribute to a resolution. Christine's heartfelt concern and Patrick Madrid's thoughtful response show a powerful message: In the face of conflict, Catholics are called to a profound empathy that transcends borders, informed by a deep faith and commitment to the teachings of Jesus Christ. Let us carry this message in our hearts and let it guide our actions towards peace and justice.
Mid-Atlantic - conversations about US, UK and world politics
Host Roifield Brown looks into the escalating crisis in Gaza, its severe humanitarian implications, and the resulting shifts in Israel's global standing. Joined by Michael Kaplow of the Israel Policy Forum, the discussion centres on the unfolding human tragedy in Gaza, where an imminent famine threatens millions, and the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) contemplate a new offensive amidst widespread food insecurity. The conversation navigates the intricate web of political manoeuvres by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in light of the United Nations Security Council's recent resolution, which the U.S., Israel's closest ally, notably chose not to veto. This resolution, demanding a ceasefire for the remainder of Ramadan, symbolises a significant pivot in international relations and showcases the nuanced dynamics at play within Israeli politics, especially considering Netanyahu's controversial leadership and the roles of right-extremist figures in his coalition. As the dialogue unfolds, Kaplow provides insightful analysis on the broader geopolitical context, the internal and external pressures facing Netanyahu, and the profound implications of the U.S.'s stance for Israeli domestic politics and its global image. The episode not only sheds light on the complex layers of the crisis but also delves into the potential paths forward amidst this geopolitical quagmire.Quotes:"This resolution, while short, is not merely symbolic; it's a seismic shift in the dynamics of U.S. and Israeli politics, challenging the very foundation of their longstanding alliance." - Michael Kaplow"Netanyahu's political gambits are not just about navigating the current crisis; they're about clinging to power by positing himself as Israel's sole defender against a world he portrays as antagonistic." - Michael Kaplow"The crux of the debate is not about whether an operation in Rafah should happen, but about when and at what cost, highlighting a rare consensus across the Israeli political spectrum amidst international contention." - Michael Kaplow"Criticism of Israel is not inherently anti-Semitic. Discover the truth behind the legend of the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) as we explore their military might with a seasoned expert. In this revealing discussion, we peel back the layers of myth to scrutinize the real capabilities of what's often hailed as the Middle East's most elite military force. Beyond the historical triumphs and daring operations, we examine the IDF's reliance on reservists, the young age of its high-ranking non-commissioned officers, and the practical consequences of this on their leadership and effectiveness.#russia #ukraine #USMilitaryHistory #Israel #Gaza #ceasefire #hostages #Ukraine #zelenskyy #Biden #china #IsraelPalestine #MiddleEastConflict #PeaceInTheMiddleEast #GazaUnderAttack #Ceasefire #Jerusalem #prayforpeace #hostages #Israel #Gaza #ceasefire #hostages #Ukraine #zelenskyy #Biden #china #IsraelPalestine #MiddleEastConflict #PeaceInTheMiddleEast #GazaUnderAttack #Ceasefire #Jerusalem #prayforpeace #hostagesSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Openly, vulnerably and courageously, Dina Gandor shares her experience as a Palestinian Yogi throughout this conversation. Her journey began with practising asanas with a VHS tape in her bedroom at 15 to now, a Jivamukti Yoga certified yoga teacher and bodyworker based in Duba leading community classes and worldwide retreats. Tapping into her belief that yoga is a practice of liberation and that liberation is about the elevation and healing of all beings, Dina's mission for women's remembrance of their strength is needed now more than ever. To let in the very real, authentic details of her personal story and to inspire you to continue the work of yoga, enter this interview with an open heart and a curious mind. The occupation extends only to the territory where such authority has been established and can be exercised. (From the International Red Cross) For background: Military Presence and Control: Israel maintains a significant military presence in the Palestinian territories, particularly in the West Bank and East Jerusalem. The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) control checkpoints, strategic locations, and border crossings, restricting the movement of Palestinians and exerting authority over key areas. Settlement Construction: Israel has been involved in the construction and expansion of Jewish settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, which are considered illegal under international law. These settlements often result in the displacement of Palestinian communities, changing the demographic and geographic realities on the ground. Separation Wall: The construction of the Israeli West Bank barrier, also known as the separation barrier or the wall, has further separated Palestinian communities and hindered their access to agricultural land, education, healthcare, and economic opportunities. While Israel argues that it is a security measure, critics argue that it serves as a de facto border, annexing Palestinian territory. Restrictions on Movement: Palestinians face various restrictions on their movement, both within the territories and internationally. Checkpoints, roadblocks, and barriers limit the ability of Palestinians to travel freely, affecting daily life, economic activities, and access to essential services. East Jerusalem Annexation: Israel's control and annexation of East Jerusalem have been a contentious issue. The international community does not recognize Israel's sovereignty over East Jerusalem, which Palestinians consider the capital of their state. However, Israel has continued to expand its presence in East Jerusalem through settlement construction and policies that alter the demographic composition of the city.
Today's Headlines: In the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas, negotiations are reportedly still underway for a potential deal to release Israeli hostages in exchange for a temporary pause in fighting. Al-Shifa hospital in Gaza has ceased functioning as a medical facility, with premature babies evacuated, and the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) claim the hospital was used as a military enclave, providing footage of a tunnel shaft. The IDF also presented security footage from October 7th showing two hostages inside Al-Shifa. In the United States, Congress is expected to vote on a military aid package for Israel, with Bernie Sanders and AOC calling for aid to be conditional on policy changes. Meanwhile, Houthi rebels in Yemen, backed by Iran, hijacked an Israeli-linked ship in the Red Sea, taking 25 crew members hostage, citing alleged connections to Israel. In a surprising development, Argentina elected far-right libertarian economist Javier Milei as president, defeating the center-left economy minister Sergio Massa. Finally, former First Lady Rosalyn Carter, wife of President Jimmy Carter, passed away at the age of 96, marking the end of the longest presidential marriage in U.S. history. Today, we are discussing the current conditions of Jabalia Refugee Camp and the situation in Gaza. Script: Hi everyone, I'm Anusha and you're listening to Seeking Refuge News, a podcast sharing the human stories of refugees. Today, we are here to update you on the conditions of Jabalia (ji-bah-li-ya) Refugee Camp, located on the north end of the Gaza Strip, which is where the Israeli Army has carried out one of the deadliest bombings yet. (Al Jazeera) On Tuesday, October 31st, Israeli forces began the bombing of Jabalia refugee camp, killing over 50 and injuring hundreds, and was followed by five more air raids that all hit residential areas of the camp. These actions sparked backlash from many Arab Nations, including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Egypt, and the UAE. The air raid on Tuesday was followed by another bombing on Wednesday, the second blast destroying over 20 buildings, according to the Washington Post. These air raids came amid Israeli's bombing of the Gaza Strip, which has so far killed 10,022 people, including more than 4,104 children, since the fighting began on October 7th, according to Palestinian authorities. Over 70% of the deaths are reported to be women and children, says CNN. For context, Jabalia Refugee Camp is a densely populated area that was established after the Arab-Israeli War of 1948, when hundreds of thousands of Palestinians were expelled from their homes that became a part of the newly established State of Israel and were later denied return. Now, the area is composed of crowded shops, apartments, and houses packed so close together that the streets in between them are barely wide enough for a car to pass, according to CNN. People living in close quarters like this makes missiles even more detrimental to the camp. There is now a massive crater in the center of the camp, and the injured are looking for a safe place to go. According to a statement by the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF), the initial airstirke was “successful” in killing several members of Hamas, including Ibrahim Biari, whom Israel describes as one of the Hamas commanders responsible for the attacks on Israel on October 7th. Several sources report the Israeli military announcing that the attacks killed him, however, Hazzem Qassem, a spokesperson for Hamas, has denied the presence of any senior commander and deemed this claim “an Israeli excuse for killing civilians.” This back and forth has been very common in the weeks following the Israeli offensive in Gaza, with claims of Hamas commanders hiding in hospitals, ambulances, and residential areas, while Hamas claims this is not the case. It is becoming increasingly hard for the international community to discern what is the truth. However, one reaction from the international community is becoming more prevalent, and that is, even if there are senior Hamas commanders hiding among citizens, does that warrant airstrikes on the whole areas, killing and endangering more women and children? The answer would be no, according to international law. The United Nations Human Rights Office has weighed in, saying that these attacks on Jabalya, “could amount to war crimes” considering “the high number of civilian casualties and the scale of the destruction,” which was reported by CNN's social media. The Secretary General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres (goo-tersh), said in a statement that he was, “deeply alarmed by the intensification of the conflict.” International humanitarian law, he said, “is not an a la carte menu and cannot be applied selectively.” (Washington Post). The news is developing rapidly in Gaza, therefore many of the numbers and figures we've used could already be outdated, so we encourage our listeners to do their research and stay up to date on the current events in the region. We will do our best to continue to report on this news as the situation progresses. Again, I'm Anusha, and thank you for listening to Seeking Refuge News. Liked this episode? Let us know! Former President Donald Trump took the stand Monday in his civil fraud trial in New York, testifying that his role in creating the Trump Organization's financial statements was one of merely providing information for his accountants. The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) have released footage appearing to show tunnels under Gaza that the IDF claim are being used by the Hamas terrorist organization. Israel says the tunnels are located beneath two hospitals in northern Gaza, and that Hamas uses them as command centers and to hide rocket launchers. Ukraine's counteroffensive has slowed, and its troops are facing exhaustion as the conflict with Russia enters its second winter. However, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has rejected claims that the conflict has reached a stalemate. ⭕️Watch in-depth videos based on Truth & Tradition at Epoch TV

In this special episode, we're pleased to have Andy Ram as our guest. Andy made history by becoming the first Israeli tennis player to win a senior Grand Slam event. He achieved this feat at Wimbledon in 2006. His winning streak includes the French Open mixed doubles title and the men's doubles title at the Australian Open. He achieved a World No. 5 doubles ranking in July 2008. Throughout his career, he represented Israel at multiple Summer Olympics, and competed in 36 doubles finals, triumphing in 20 of them, often partnering with Jonathan Erlich, together known in Israel as "AndiYoni." Andy's success on the court is just the beginning of his incredible story. As a former Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) soldier, Andy used his platform as a tennis player to raise awareness and support for the IDF soldiers and their families. He's also dedicated himself to promoting peace and coexistence between Israelis and Palestinians through tennis. In these turbulent days, we discuss: • Resilience and hope in Israel amidst conflict • Overcoming obstacles to becoming a top tennis player despite not being a super talent (Andy's words not ours!) or coming from a wealthy background. • Resilience and failure in sports and life • The importance of leaning on people for support during tough times • Finding solutions to problems through conversations and maintaining a positive outlook. • Positive thinking and energy management • Passion, discipline, and belief in achieving success • Overcoming challenges • And much more Enjoy your listen!
Richard and Bernardo are two distinguished veterans of the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF), who have navigated the transition from civilian life in the US and later dedicated themselves to the defense of Israel amidst regional tensions. Richard, spurred by the antisemitism he encountered at Portland State University, found a new homeland in Israel despite initially knowing less than six words in Hebrew. His journey through the infantry to the reconnaissance brigade unveiled his relentless determination to safeguard the nation's borders. Bernardo, with a rich tapestry of 16 years in operational roles, opens up about the high-stake realm of Counter Terrorism, Special Operations, and Dignitary Protection, all while nurturing the next generation of leaders through his nonprofit, Team of Warriors. Their poignant narratives transcend the battlefield, touching on their engagements in educational dialogues and non-profit endeavors back in the US, illuminating the essence of national service and the dire necessity for a sovereign nation to self-defend. As they delve into the current strife embroiling the Middle East, their firsthand experiences and in-depth analysis shed light on the complex dynamics at play. Together, Richard and Bernardo offer not only a glimpse into the rigorous life of an IDF soldier but also share candid reflections on the broader geopolitical environment, providing a nuanced understanding of the ongoing conflict from those who have lived through its manifold dimensions. This episode of EMS One-Stop With Rob Lawrence is brought to you by Lexipol, the experts in policy, training, wellness support and grants assistance for first responders and government leaders. To learn more, visit lexipol.com. On October 7, 2023, the Palestinian group Hamas launched a surprise attack on Israel at dawn during the Jewish holiday of Simchat Torah – with armed assailants breaching security barriers and a barrage of rockets fired from Gaza. The attack came 50 years and a day after Egyptian and Syrian forces launched an assault during the Jewish holiday of Yom Kippur in an effort to retrieve territory Israel had taken during a brief conflict in 1967. As the world has seen, terrorists entered Israel. Militants burst into houses, shooting residents begging for their lives and taking others – including women, children and the elderly – hostage, driving the terrified captives back into Gaza. Operating as part of the initial and ongoing response to the events unfolding in Israel is United Hatzalah, a network of more than 6,500 EMS volunteers, with a fleet of emergency medical vehicles, who in peacetime, are able to respond to more than 2,000 medical emergencies per day in an average response time of less than 3 minutes (and in major cities, often less than 90 seconds). Since October 7, United Hatzalah has been pushed to its absolute limits and has expended the majority of its disposable medical equipment. In this special edition of EMS One-Stop, Rob Lawrence speaks with Dov Maisel, United Hatzalah's Vice President of Operations. Donate to support United Hatzalah's EMS response: United Hatzalah – Israel is at War | The Chesed Fund TOP QUOTES FROM THIS EPISODE “We are a multi-faith organization, but we are an organization of human beings. What we've underwent here in the past week has nothing to do with human beings. This is barbaric. This is something that I've never witnessed. And I've been through terror waves here in my 30 years of EMS. I've seen buses blown up. I've seen suicide bombers in dozens. Nothing on this scale. This is something that Isis did, we all remember watching the videos of what ISIS did, years ago. This overcomes all of that.” — Dov Maisel “I would say that the amount of tourniquets that we put out in the first 36 hours was in the thousands ... thousands of tourniquets. We treated over 3,000 victims on the ground. The amount of tourniquets, bandages, chest seals, trachs, chest drains, needle applications, tubes that were put out in this first 36, 48 hours of operation is more than what we use, I would say in half a year.” — Dov Maisel “Our ground rule is in EMS, you don't enter a danger zone, but the volunteers getting on the radios with me, I was in HQ when it started, before I headed actually down to the field – they're calling and screaming for help … the IDF soldiers that started the defense process were understaffed and they had no capabilities to rescue the victims out from the scene. And our volunteers simply, I told them, ‘it's up to you. Literally, it's up to you;' and they all went in.” — Dov Maisel “There were so many, just try to wrap your thoughts around having 3, 4, 5, 10 gunshot wound patients thrown at you – at one or two medics with one ambulance. You can't pile them up one on top of another. You had volunteers going with their private cars, throw them in the backseats, literally with tourniquets on them. Imagine – tourniquets on all extremities, all extremities, needle in their chest, chest seals – thrown in the back seats of cars driven out two, three kilometers out to the ambulance crews that were waiting there that can treat them.” — Dov Maisel ABOUT OUR GUEST With 30 years of experience, Dov Maisel has dedicated his life to saving the lives of others. When Dov was just 9 years old, he was walking home from school when he witnessed a horrific accident in which a 6-year-old girl was hit by a bus. He decided he never wanted to be helpless when someone in his vicinity so desperately needed lifesaving treatment. By the age of 14, he began volunteering on an ambulance. Maisel has served as a combat paramedic in the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) in four different wars. After his army service, he began working as an EMT, dispatcher and driver for Israel's national ambulance service. During the 2000-2003 terror wave in Israel, Maisel personally responded to and managed EMS teams at thousands of terror attacks. Maisel is the inventor and developer of numerous medical devices, including a pocket BVM airway management device, which is used internationally in many armies, including the U.S. Military. In 2006, he was one of the founders of United Hatzalah, Israel's first all-volunteer EMS organization. He serves as the director of operations, managing national and international operations along with the Israeli police, IDF and Ministry of Health as well as other government bodies. He invented what is now United Hatzalah's Uber-like GPS-based dispatch system which locates and sends the EMT closest to the medical emergency. Maisel graduated from several NATO- and Red Cross-led international workshops on disaster management and led international relief missions in Haiti, Nepal, Mumbai and, most recently, in both Houston and Florida, after the devasting hurricanes, as the head of international operations of United Hatzalah. He continues to serve as a volunteer, instructor and mass casualty incident manager. He has received the Israel President's Award for volunteerism and sits on the International Editorial Board of JEMS Magazine. RATE AND REVIEW THE EMS ONESTOP PODCAST Enjoying the show? Israeli intelligence services are known for their effectiveness and have a long history of safeguarding the country's security interests. The primary Israeli intelligence agencies include the Mossad, Shin Bet (also known as the Israel Security Agency), and Aman (the Directorate of Military Intelligence). Here is a comprehensive summary of how these agencies work:Mossad (HaMossad leModi'in uleTafkidim Meyuhadim):The Mossad is Israel's premier intelligence agency, responsible for foreign intelligence and covert operations abroad. Its primary mission is to gather intelligence related to potential threats to Israel, including terrorism, nuclear proliferation, and other security concerns. The Mossad conducts espionage, counter-terrorism, and covert operations, including assassinations or sabotage when necessary. It operates under the jurisdiction of the Prime Minister's Office and is led by a director who reports directly to the Prime Minister.Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency or ISA):Shin Bet focuses on domestic intelligence and counter-terrorism within Israel and the Palestinian territories. Its primary responsibilities include monitoring and combating terrorism, subversion, and espionage within Israel and the West Bank.Shin Bet also provides security for high-ranking officials and critical infrastructure. The agency operates under the Ministry of Public Security and reports to the Minister of Public Security.Aman (Directorate of Military Intelligence):Aman is the military intelligence agency responsible for collecting, analyzing, and disseminating intelligence related to military threats to Israel. It focuses on regional military developments, such as the capabilities and intentions of neighboring states and non-state actors.Aman plays a crucial role in Israel's national security and helps shape military strategies and operations. The agency operates within the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) and provides intelligence support to the military and other Israeli security agencies.Key aspects of how these Israeli intelligence services work:Cooperation: The different intelligence agencies in Israel often collaborate and share information to ensure a comprehensive and coordinated approach to national security.Recruitment: These agencies recruit and train agents, informants, and operatives to gather intelligence or carry out covert operations. Recruitment may involve both Israeli citizens and foreign assets.Technology and Cybersecurity: Israeli intelligence agencies are known for their expertise in technological intelligence and cyber capabilities, which are vital for monitoring and countering threats in the modern era.Counterterrorism: Given Israel's unique security challenges, counterterrorism is a significant focus. These agencies work to identify, prevent, and respond to terrorist threats, both domestically and internationally.Political Oversight: Israeli intelligence agencies operate under the oversight of various governmental bodies, ensuring that their activities remain within legal and ethical boundaries.Global Reach: The Mossad, in particular, operates globally and conducts operations in various countries to protect Israeli interests. This global reach is a key element of Israel's national security strategy.Clandestine Operations: These agencies are known for their ability to carry out covert operations, such as assassinations or sabotage, when deemed necessary to protect Israeli interests.Even with all of these resources and all of their previous success, the Israeli Intelligence services were caught sleeping just like they were 50 years ago at the start of the Yom Kippur War. The question is, how? Back in June, Sara shared her amazing trip to Israel with you as it was happening. She was there to learn about Israel's border security challenges and the policies that work most effectively. But the tour also included many stops at biblical sites such as the Sea of Galilee, the site of Christ's Sermon on the Mount, and the wailing wall in Jerusalem. In June 2024, Sara will lead a group of her own to Israel. Today, she is joined by Ronnie Wexler, the phenomenal guide who will be back to lead next year's tour. Wexler is a veteran of the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) and is the president of both the Heritage Study Program and the Ten Commandments Day Commission. Today, Sara and Ronnie explain why visiting Israel is such a powerful experience, what it's like to experience biblical history where it happened, and what the people and culture of Israel are like today. It's a trip that changed Sara's life.
