Greg AmundsonPresident & Inventor, InstaTrim.com Today we talk with Greg Amundson, a trailblazing inventor and entrepreneur whose story will inspire you to keep working hard when all the chips are down. Greg began his company, InstaTrim, in the midst of the 2008 housing market crisis and grew it into a multi-million dollar business. "The idea came to me in the middle of the night," he says, "And when I woke up, I immediately made a prototype of the product idea." The market feedback was positive, signaling that his product had commercial potential. What followed next was the start of a company that has today become a successful business. But Greg's success story is more than just the invention of a great product. It's also about how he constantly failed and learned on the job intelligently, found unique advantages where others failed, and worked hard to improve InstaTrim's marketing. Greg's experiences will keep you motivated while unveiling insights on entrepreneurship, business, and marketing for both new and seasoned entrepreneurs or product marketers. In today's episode of the Harvest Growth podcast, we'll cover: ●      How InstaTrim started manufacturing their products locally, instead of in China.●      The value of networking at every stage of the entrepreneurial journey.●      The importance of failing quickly, and failing on a small scale.●      Why it is essential to believe in your product.●      And so much more! Are you tired of using messy caulks on home improvement projects? Then visit www.instatrim.com to get great deals and discounts on Greg Amundson's InstaTrim, the bestselling trim solution on Amazon. Talking Tillage at Agronomy on Ice

In this episode you'll hear from four different farmers and one crop consultant about their individual perspectives and experience with tillage. To use tillage or go no-till is sometimes controversial and often treated as a form of identity. This discussion explores a more practical approach from people trying to reduce the harmful effects of tillage, but still keeping the necessary tools in their toolbox that their operation needs.  In order of appearance, you'll hear from:  Greg Amundson, farmer in Gilby, North Dakota  Dr. Lee Briese, crop consultant with Centrol Inc. John Aamodt, farmer in  Arvilla, North Dakota Matthew Krueger, farmer in East Grand Forks, Minnesota  George Herman, farmer in Brinsmade, North Dakota  “One thing I've really struggled with lately is labels…You know we try a no-till, and that's our philosophy but I'm not afraid to run our vertical till out there if we have to.…I'm a conservation minded farmer…. I will do what I have to do to get a crop. You know, the labels be damned pretty much.” - Greg Amundson Agronomy on Ice was a great place to capture different perspectives on soil health. Every one of these farmers and consultants in Lee's case is finding the tillage practice that optimizes soil health and productivity for each individual field and each individual circumstance. It's not helpful to apply labels or identities around these practices. Rather, producers should find the best approach for their situation with soil health in mind as a consideration for the overall system.  “That's what Greg's doing. He's doing something that doesn't fit the quote unquote no-till marker, but it's getting his soil health journey because now he's fixed that field, let it repair, rebuilt it again in that spot, which is a little frustrating, but it's better than leaving that wound wide open… I support diagnosing the challenge, finding the right solutions, putting them in the practice at the right timing, whatever they may be. That to me is more of a soil health thing.” -Dr. Lee Briese This Week on Soil Sense: Listen in on a discussion of real world tillage experience with four farmers and a crop consultant as they navigate how to prioritize soil health in a practical approach to field management Explore the limitations created by labeling practices and operations as no-till or reduced tillage

We have talked about cover crops a lot on this podcast. Today we speak with both a farmer and an extension agronomist about the decision-making required to introduce cover crops into an operation. Greg Amundson is a 4th generation farmer who farms with his dad near Gilby, North Dakota. Amundson began his venture with cover crops through an EQIP (Environmental Quality Incentives Program) with the NRCS. He explains how he approaches farming from a strict bottom line perspective when he says “I don’t push for top yields. I push for the top return.” “You don’t learn from your successes, you learn from your failures. So if you don’t fail, you don’t know if what you’re doing is right or wrong.” Greg Amundson We are also joined by Greg Endres, a Cropping Systems Specialist with NDSU Extension. Endres focuses his efforts on bringing more data to cover crop decision making as cover crops are generally new to many productions. He hopes to make the information available to producers in order to make the most informed and beneficial decisions. “If we have university data for people as a starting point for cover crops, that’ll give them a better chance of being successful with their cover crop and soil health program.” - Greg Endres Endres shares that there is not a “one size fits all” to success with cover crops. Environmental factors and crop rotation considerations must be taken into account when making decisions about what cover crops to plant and when. “It all boils down to the amount of moisture and especially timely moisture,” explains Endres. While a cover crop can provide many benefits to the soil he cautions producers from discounting the amount of soil moisture the rye or other cover crop will take up and eliminate from any interseeded crops. One study is exploring the measurement of soil moisture to determine the rye termination date with the understanding that a poorly timed killing of the rye can adversely affect the yield of the main cash crop. While interseeding with a cover crop can present this risk of limited resources for crop yield, as always there are many apparent benefits to be factored in. “The winter rye can serve as a substitute for a pre-emergence soil applied herbicide. So in other words, you can either use rye as a suppressant and terminate the rye when appropriate. That rye will hold back weeds quite nicely. And it can be a substitute for a soil applied herbicide…..So you’re trading management with herbicide usage.” - Greg Endres This Week on Soil Sense: Meet Greg Endres, a Cropping Systems Specialist at NDSU Extension and Greg Amundson, a fourth generation farmer in North Dakota. What role does spirituality play in your life? Was there ever a time where you felt a lack of spirituality negatively impacted your life? Leave a comment on the episode page!   In This Episode How Greg’s parents influenced his outlook on life Rituals to help you tap into your creative process and spirit Understanding how to approach your own spiritual, physical and mental practice Embracing the warrior archetype and self-mastery Why seeking out spirituality is essential for your overall wellness   Quotes “When I reflect on the most creative times in my life, when I was in what they refer to in the warrior tradition as mushin or without mind, without consciousness, in flow state, it's just allowing the Holy Spirit to freely navigate my life.” (5:44) “I think God was up to more than simply reproduction of the species. I think to be fruitful and to multiply could also mean creativity. That your ideas are like seeds and they can sprout and bring forth an amazing harvest that can benefit humanity.” (8:07) “When we embrace the warrior archetype we are more desirous of looking at what we do as much more meaningful. All of the sudden everything has greater meaning. There is no time for the luxury of idle thinking. There is no time for the luxury of idle action or idle speaking, in fact, the more progressive you develop yourself on the spiritual path the more self-aware you have to be” (19:34) “So often we speak without thinking, without real consciousness. And that's such a shame because our words are potentially so full of creative manifesting power. Yet we tend to throw them around aimlessly.” (32:40) “There tends to be great divide, great division, in spiritual path. And yet a true spiritual path seeks unity not division. So religion creates war, spirituality creates union.” (35:41)   Links Gregory Amundson Website Follow Greg on Facebook | Instagram | YouTube The Warrior and The Monk Book Unbeatable Mind Episode with Greg Amundson Dan Brule - Breath Mastery The Greg Amundson Show     Check out the full show notes for this episode here Urban Wellness Clinic Follow Emily & Urban Wellness on Facebook | Twitter | Instagram | YouTube

Today's guest, Greg Amundson, is a fitness expert, masterful storyteller and warrior with an extremely diverse set of experiences: college athlete, sheriff's deputy, DEA agent, Army officer, author, and CrossFit affiliate. His focus is currently on speaking, writing, CrossFit and promoting Warrior Yoga.   “Mentors come in all different shapes and forms, so there's an opportunity for God to bring people into our life on a regular basis. These seemingly fleeting and temporary relationships all serve a purpose in our growth, in our evolution, in our awareness, in our self-discovery.”   One of the most influential relationships Greg has is with Mark Divine, Founder and CEO of http://sealfit.com (SEALFIT) and Founder of Warrior Yoga. One of the key gifts that Mark gave Greg was awareness of breath. Mindful breathing is the basis of most forms of meditation, and the story of how Greg found his awareness of breath is quite exciting. It involves hanging from a cargo net in a steel compound, and even more about their powerful mentor-mentee relationship is explored in the upcoming book Firebreather Fitness. Firebreather Fitness is a profound book in that it is the first to fully integrate holistic fitness, which is simultaneously developing the mind, the body and the spirit. In the early days of CrossFit, Firebreather became a term of endearment based around physical accomplishment. Then Greg realized that there was more to a physical fitness program than physicality.   “There's way more to a physical fitness program than physicality. There's an opportunity to develop character, emotional resilience, discipline and spiritual awareness, and now we define a Firebreather as one who faces the trials and tribulations of great physical opposition with an indomitable spirit.”   A huge part of Greg and Mark's lives are their morning rituals, and they are both passionate about instilling in people the warrior quality of the morning ritual. Every morning, Greg: Wakes up at four and becomes aware of the transition between the waking state and the sleeping state Remains silent Goes into the kitchen to pour a glass of water Introduces the feeling of gratitude as he drinks the water of immense gratitude Goes into the living room and goes through a series of breathing exercises that are designed to still the mind Meditates to achieve a transcendent state and Transitions to the warrior tradition of First Words, which is the practice of bringing awareness to the first offering of our spoken word   The First Word process creates a rippling effect from the beginning of our day throughout the rest of the day. Through breathing exercises and meditation you create a still body of water in your mind, and “the spoken word is like a pebble that you drop into stillness to create an even rippling effect touching the shore of our life on every corner.”   “Words are real.”   Greg is the last guest in our Small Town series, and he proves that you don't need to be from a big town to have a big impact.
