The journey to veganism often begins with a deep-seated love for animals and the realization that our daily choices can impact their lives profoundly. During Episode 020 of the Veganpreneur REVOLUTION™ podcast, hosts @kathleengage and @vlynnhawkins talk with Bobby Sud, a filmmaker and photographer, who found his purpose in advocating for animals through the lens of love and empathy. Early Life and Inspirations Bobby's compassion for animals was evident from a young age. Growing up, he always had a strong connection to animals, a trait common among empathetic individuals. However, his journey into veganism and animal advocacy didn't begin until much later. Initially, Bobby pursued a degree in filmmaking, specializing in environmental filmmaking, yet he had not yet adopted a vegan lifestyle. Health Transformation It wasn't until Bobby's health spiraled out of control that he embraced a plant-based diet. Suffering from severe health issues, including obesity, diabetes, high cholesterol, and hypertension, Bobby decided to make a drastic change. With his twin brother's encouragement, within eight months of adopting a plant-based lifestyle, he lost over 100 pounds and reversed his chronic conditions. This transformation was pivotal, not only for his health but also for his burgeoning advocacy. The Turning Point The significant turning point in Bobby's journey occurred when he attended the SoCal VegFest in Orange County. Introduced to the concept of animal vigils by Jon Pierre (JP), Bobby attended his first pig vigil. This experience was a revelation. Standing inches away from a truck filled with 200 six-month-old piglets destined for slaughter, Bobby had a profound epiphany. He realized that, just like humans, these animals had only one life, and their suffering and individuality were undeniable. Advocacy Through Filmmaking and Photography Inspired by this experience, Bobby's path took a definitive turn towards animal advocacy. He began documenting animal vigils, capturing the stark reality of animal suffering through his lens. His talent as a filmmaker and photographer quickly gained recognition, leading to collaborations with notable figures like Shaun Monson and involvement in significant projects like "Generation Vegan." LA Animal Save Bobby's dedication didn't stop at documenting animal suffering. He became an active organizer for the Animal Save Movement, specifically LA Animal Save. Through his powerful photography, Bobby highlights the individuality of animals, transforming abstract numbers into poignant portraits. His work emphasizes that each animal is a sentient being, capable of suffering and deserving of compassion. Emotional Resilience and Self-Care Dealing with the emotional toll of witnessing and documenting such suffering is challenging. Bobby's approach is rooted in love rather than hate. He focuses on his love for animals and his desire to help them, finding solace in the positive impact of his work. This love-based activism helps him manage the emotional weight and stay committed to his cause. www.VeganVisibilityProductions.com/podcast/020-Bobby-Sud

Rhiannon's entire life changed course after going vegan. Rhiannon studied Speech Communication, created an animal rights club at University, became involved in a mentor program at The Gentle Barn and more recently founded Higher Consciousness Events. Rhiannon was raised on a heavy dairy based Slovak diet. She remembers always feeling scared of meat because she recognised it as an animal. Rhiannon went vegan after seeing a social media post exposing the hidden truths of the dairy and egg industries. Rhiannon decided she could no longer study health sciences as it involved dissection and products tested on animals. She chose to study Speech communication so she could learn to be a better voice for animals. During her time at university, Rhiannon was encouraged to start an on-campus vegan club known as Students for Ethical Evolution. Through this process, Rhiannon learnt how to establish and manage a non profit organisation. Rhiannon recently founded Higher Consciousness Events, which aims to raise consciousness one event at a time. Rhiannon organises events, bringing together vegans and non vegans to watch a documentary, enjoy vegan food and discuss animal rights, environmental issues and social injustice. She hopes to expand these events into schools and colleges.Rhiannon began attending LA Animal Save events not long after going vegan. She was able to connect with animals, like minded people and met the Founder of The Gentle Barn, Ellie. Rhiannon began volunteering at the sanctuary, enrolled in one of their courses then continued being mentored by The Gentle Barn. Rhiannon is working towards having her own sanctuary in the future. In this episode, Rhiannon also shares her self care rituals and the importance of continuous learning. https://www.instagram.com/rhiannons_avatar/https://www.instagram.com/higherconsciousnessevents/https://higherconsciousnessevents.org/

After the cancer survival and exposure to vegan documentaries, Danielle had fully conceded to the idea of veganism. She was now not only in it for health, but for the animals and the environment as well. This was the birth of “Vegan Danielle”. In 2017, she started her own vegan-themed podcast and began attending vigils with LA Animal Save about a year later. She felt inspired to get into even better shape, just to prove to others that vegans could do it. Today, Danielle still runs her podcast, exercises regularly, and eats a mostly WFPB diet (with the occasional Beyond Burger). Her goal is to share her story in hopes others can find inspiration to make the change as well.

Jane Velez-Mitchell has been vegan longer than some of you have been alive; she was never served meat as a child, despite her Puerto Rican upbringing. Later in life, Jane went to NYU and graduated with a degree in Broadcast Journalism, which later led her to work with K-CAL TV, CNN, Warner Bros. and many more. Over time, these platforms have allowed Jane to have a louder voice for the animals, which led to even further opportunities with Mercy for Animals, PETA, VegNews Magazine and so many more! Over 150 billion land animals are slaughtered every year for our consumption. If we add in the 2.8 trillion fish, the marine animals, and even bees and silkworms, we’re into the multiple trillions. This is the largest, longest, most bloody holocaust our planet has every seen. There is no question that these animals are sentient–they feel pain, fear and grief, are capable of joy, love and excitement. There is a reason that we separate ourselves from the source of our food–we don’t want to see the terror in the eyes of our “dinner.” [] Our featured guest is Amy Jean Davis – an animal rights advocate and the Founder of LA Animal Save (www.laanimalsave.org), the Los Angeles chapter of the global Save Movement. Originally from a small town in Indiana, Amy came to Los Angeles in 2008 as a top 24 Finalist on season 7 of American Idol. Davis started an animal sanctuary in the Los Angeles, California area. In 2015, she completed her certificate in Plant Based Nutrition from eCornell, and in 2016, Amy founded LA Animal Save, which is now the largest chapter of more than 600 Save groups worldwide. There are many reasons people go vegan–their health, the environment, the social impact–but one reason most people stay vegan: morality and ethics. Veganism challenges the socially ingrained concept that animals are here for our use and questions the ethical validity of this belief system. Most people are self-proclaimed animal-lovers. What most don’t proclaim is that they only love certain animals. We humans, on the whole, place certain species above others and our own species above everyone. This is called speciesism. We love dogs but eat cows. We care for our cats but kill and consume pigs. We may grown up with a pet chicken whom we name and love and care for, yet simultaneously continue to eat other chickens. Why is one being more deserving of life than another? These are the moral and ethical disconnects that veganism resolves. About LA Animal Save: Founded in 2016 by Amy Jean Davis, LA Animal Save () is the largest chapter of the 600+ Save Movement groups around the world. The Save Movement (), which began in Toronto, Canada, bears witness to the suffering and oppression of pigs, cows, chickens and other farmed animals en route to slaughter. Using a love-based, community-organizing approach, volunteer animal rights advocates hold regular, peaceful vigils at slaughterhouses, live markets, and factory farms in order to be present in the face of animal injustice, raise awareness about the plight of farmed animals, help people to become vegan, and continue to build a grassroots animal justice movement based on the principles of animal equality and freedom. Bobby Sud is a Film Director, Producer and Cinematographer. He is an Organizer and Board Member of LA Animal Save, LA Fur Save, and LA Health Save and Vigil Photographer. You may remember our previous conversation from episode 34, where Bobby shared his personal journey towards health that started in 2015, when he weighed almost 300 lbs and suffered from Type2 Diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and everything else that comes with it. After transitioning to a whole food plant based vegan diet, Bobby was able to reverse and cure his diabetes in 6 weeks and have lost close to 100lbs. However, it wasn’t until he went to the first LA Animal Save pig vigil and met Shaun Monson (director of “Earthlings”) and Amy Jean Davis (founder of LAAS) that he truly understood what it meant to be a vegan. Today, Bobby is deeply involved in the movement. Bobby has worked with Shaun Monson as his cinematographer and producing partner, he has been an organizer for the LA Save Movement and official Vigil Photographer. Bobby also produced and directed a vegan travel show called “The Road Less Eaten” with episodes in Israel, Ireland, and London. Bobby's current project and focus is being the director and cinematographer of the Million Dollar Vegan campaign, which we get into during our conversation. Million Dollar Vegan Campaign is a campaign seeking to raise awareness of some of the world’s most pressing issues, and to tackle them by engaging with world leaders, institutions and individuals, and inspiring positive dietary change. This year they are asking a politician (guess who!?) to go vegan for the month of January! In exchange, Million Dollar Campaign will donate a million dollars toward the charity of his choice. Learn why going vegan is incredible for not only your health, but the health of your children and the planet. So much of what we learn about nutrition in school and through campaigns by the meat and dairy industry is wrong. In a country where the most prescribed drug is Prilosec, clearly we are not eating in alignment with what our bodies actually need and want. In this episode you will learn the incredible health benefits of going vegan, and how it can eradicate world hunger, global warming, and gross abuses against animals. Whatever your core interest in veganism may be, you will definitely want to hear what Amy has to say. Bobby Sud is an accomplished filmmaker and a recognized vegan activist who is closely involved with the movement. Bobby is currently working with Shaun Monson (the director of “Earthlings” and “Unity”) on a new documentary called “Overhaul”, which we discuss during the interview. Bobby is also a creator, producer and director of the new vegan travel food show called “The Road Less Eaten”. Bobby works closely with LA Animal Save and The Humane League. To say he is passionate about animal rights does not even begin to describe the person that he is. Bobby is incredibly courageous, determined, kind, and completely selfless in his approach. We talk about his personal journey of finding health and wellness, his activist journey and the work he does today, including vigils, non-profit animal right organizations he works with, his filming career and much more. Some parts of the conversation may be hard to listen, but I ask you to stick with us. My hope is that you hear what Bobby has to say, and walk away with a unique new perspective only you can experience. “When the suffering of another creature causes you to feel pain, do not submit to the initial desire to flee from the suffering one, but on the contrary, come closer, as close as you can to him who suffers, and try to help him.” – Leo Tolstoy Connect with Bobby on IG: https://www.instagram.com/bobbysud/ FB: https://www.facebook.com/robert.sud.3 Links: http://thesavemovement.org https://www.anonymousforthevoiceless.org
