“Everybody has access to extraordinary choices.” - Paige Parsons Roache When her daughter decided to go vegan, Paige Parsons Roache couldn't have imagined how much her own diet and life would change. It started with education: reading books, listening to plant-based doctors, watching documentaries and trying vegan food from local restaurants. Pretty soon, Paige was experimenting with recipes and becoming a “chef in her own kitchen” for the first time in her life. After meeting Jane Velez-Mitchell at a vegan event, Paige found herself inspired to get more involved and more vocal about the plant-based cause. Documentaries like Cowspiracy and What the Health had opened her eyes to the environmental and social impacts of animal agriculture, and she became committed to helping end the suffering connected to the industry. “If I knowingly was contributing to the harm of another,” Paige says of her realization, “I knew I had to make the change.” Episode Highlights: Paige's background in the environmental movement, including what inspired her to go plant-based vegan Insights from Paige's journey from a “frozen food vegan” to someone who loves experimenting in the kitchen The importance of educating yourself about food, health and the environment How Jane Unchained/Unchained TV is advancing the vegan and plant-based movements through the resources they provide Easy ways to swap whole plant-based foods in place of animal products Caring for your body holistically, not just through what you eat How to minimize the environmental and social impacts of factory farming Paige's passion for the environment, health and animals shows in her words and actions. Through Jane Unchained, Clubhouse and other initiatives, she's inspiring and encouraging others to get educated about plant-based eating, make the switch away from animal products and take back power for health and wellbeing. Most people aren't proactive in their tax planning, either during their professional careers or in retirement, and the consequences can be grave. Tax law is constantly changing, the IRS is harder than ever to work with, and a missed opportunity or a stone left unturned can make a massive difference when it comes to your bottom line. This is why we work with people like Peter Roache. He's a fantastic tax planner and someone we love to work with. Today, Peter joins us to talk about how to manage tax risk, diversify your taxes in retirement, and what the future of taxation may look like across legacies and generations. In this podcast interview, you'll learn: Why tax codes are getting more and more complex. How Peter uses today's tax rates to determine the value of Roth conversions for the future. Why so many people end up in a higher tax bracket after retiring. How the “backdoor mega Roth conversion” can work within a 401(k) to move nondeductible money and get many years worth of contributions in one. What you need to know about tax loss harvesting. BRIAN CRAWFORD went from playing Football Manager the game to – well – being a football manager. The Larkhall Thistle boss will never forget the chance he got to play in the juniors at 17. And that's why he'll never shy away from giving youth a chance. Brian tells us about life at the oldest continuous club which started out life in the juniors. Then we look back at his own goal-laden playing career, when he was the talk of the game. His strikes for the likes of Carluke and Cumbernauld eventually saw him step up to the seniors with Clyde. But despite being their top striker at Christmas he was still on the bench. We hear why scoring a winner for Stranraer one night saw him lose his job the next day. And how refusing to be subbed before a corner was taken led to him staring at a year out of the game. Plus there's Roache's Roundup and Mark Mackay's Best of the West. We are back with the twisted Genius's of "Red Duke Games" to talk about their new book "Lovecraft cocktails" The authors (Mike Slater, Thomas Roache) and the illustrator (Kurt Komoda) behind the best-selling Necronomnomnom have summoned another glorious grimoire―this time featuring cursed cocktails. These boozy and punny recipes pay homage to Lovecraftian horror themes and monsters with titles such as the King in Jell-O, Pink FlaMi-Go, and Sunken Island Iced Tea. Further libations include the Hell Residente, Moscow Ghoul, the Root Beer of All Evil, and the Bloodbath & Beyond. The book provides “Virgin Sacrifices” for the coachman designated to drive everyone back from the séance, or for anyone not wanting to imbibe the devil's water. There are 75 delicious and malicious recipes, each gorgeously illustrated, mercilessly tested, and hilariously written. Recipes appear in the form of cryptic rhymes and arcane rituals but are always easy (and fun) to follow. Bibulous and ridiculous, Lovecraft Cocktails will bring delight and fright for Halloween, the holidays, and beyond. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/dean-jones9/message

JAMIE McKENZIE was just 25 when he was thrust into the dugout at Elgin. But he landed a manager of the month award just a few weeks later. While he'd return to focus on playing, it was enough to give him the bug for being a boss and so it wasn't long before he was getting involved in coaching again. He quickly made his mark. After winning the Central Division Two title during four seasons at Forth, he lifted the West Region League One title in his first year at Gartcairn. Following a shock exit from The Cairn he took over at Lanark United last year and is now building his squad for the new season. Jamie joins us this week and tells us about his ambitions for the Yowes despite a summer of early blows. We hear why he thinks he has unfinished business at Gartcairn and the influence of John McVeigh, who he played under at four different clubs. Plus Jamie reveals why it's his fault he didn't play at a higher level. There's also a recap of all the managers who have been on the move this week in Roache's Roundup. It's all here as we go Down The Divisions. We'd like to give a quick mention to our sponsors FortyFour Creative. They have a team of highly skilled and passionate photographers, graphic designers, videographers and video editors to help promote your content, brand, organisation or event. The youngest cohort of workers in the corporate sector is helping businesses drive better social outcomes, especially within Australian Indigenous communities. Corporate spending with Indigenous suppliers is over $900 million compared to $6.3 million 11 years ago. While the catalyst for this growth has been government-imposed spending targets, businesses say they are increasingly finding young ‘champions' among their workforce eager to find ways to create social impact. “We are absolutely seeing that the new generation of workers want to work on purpose-driven initiatives,” says Stephanie Roache, sustainability manager at Australia post. “I've heard many people from our procurement team say that on the weekend they don't necessarily want to talk to their friends about the big telco contract they secured at work. They'd rather talk about how they worked with one of their big fleet suppliers to carve out a small contract to give to an Indigenous fleet company, giving them an opportunity to get into the supply chain and grow. That's giving people a go and makes them feel really good about what they're doing.” Businesses aspiring to improve their Indigenous engagement are gradually shifting strategies from spending targets to employment targets. They are also finding ways to support greater Indigenous representation in technical roles, rather than low-skilled roles such as cleaning. Roache features in this episode of JLL's Perspectives podcast with Troy Rugless, co-founder of Indigenous-owned PSG Holdings and director of Evolve FM, and Henri Fadli, head of supply chain and procurement, JLL. ROSSVALE are on the move again – BACK to where it all began. The club have announced they'll no longer play home games at Benburb's New Tinto Park. Instead they'll return to Petershill Park, where they made their debut at this level ten years ago. Chairman Dom McInally joins us this week to tell us just what their latest flit means for a club that now boasts over SIXTY teams. Rossvale will of course compete in the West of Scotland League Premier Division this term. But it's at the other end where all the activity has been just lately. New clubs have been allowed to join with an associate status to begin with. We'll talk about the merits of doing that a year into the new structure's roll out. Plus as the transfer activity hots up, we've got Roache's roundup with Kilbirnie Ladeside assistant boss Des Roache. It's all here as we go Down The Divisions. NOT many West of Scotland League sides can say they have a player who scored a winner against Arsenal in the Premier League. But Annbank can. They brought in former Sheffield United and Hearts striker Christian Nade this season. With his help they were flying high in Conference A when things were called null and void. Their boss Matt Maley was the man who signed the ex-France Under-21 player after they worked together at Troon. Matt was appointed during lockdown – and so had to hold on for weeks before he could meet his players for the first time. We're glad he didn't keep us waiting though, as he joins us on the show this week. We'll talk about the secret behind his successes so far at New Pebble Park, how gutted he was to see the league season shut down and Nade's upcoming pre-season in the Caribbean. Matt also tells us about the current state of their ground and why they're looking for new blood to join the committee. We'll look back on his previous coaching roles at Dundee United, Celtic, Stranraer Reserves, Troon, Maybole and Kilmarnock, where he worked under the likes of Mixu Paatelainen and Kenny Shiels and helped bring through Greg Taylor. Plus we'll go all the way back to his playing days in the juniors with the likes of Craigmark, Whitletts, Dalry and the Bankies. All that and Roache's Roundup with Kilbirnie Ladeside assistant boss Des Roache. We'd also like to give a quick mention to our sponsors FortyFour Creative. PART-TIME, juniors and semi-professional football have all had their attempts at getting back playing. But just where has the lockdown left the amateur game? The definitions used by government mean teams at that level haven't kicked a ball in anger now for over a year. Is that right? Is that fair? And just what state will the game be in if and when it ever returns? We'll put those questions and more to someone who knows the amateur and juniors game. Paul McColl is currently the vice president of the Football Central Sunday League. He tells us about plans for a two-year trial of summer football starting this year. We'll hear why co-host Paul Davies feels there should be a pyramid system in the amateurs and look back at just what makes the game at that level so good. Paul McColl faced Gazza while at English side Darlington in the 80s then returned to Scotland and joined Rutherglen Glencairn. Spells at other junior sides followed before he stepped into the amateurs, first as a player then in the dugout during which time he lifted several trophies and bossed a player who stepped out in the Champions League. We'll look back at those days with Paul, along with his time at a team that left your wages in your shoes. All that plus Roache's Roundup with Kilbirnie Ladeside assistant boss Des Roache. No wonder she feels so at home and connected with the sheer beauty of Victoria's dynamic landscapes. Romy is now fortunate enough to be living in Torquay, part of the Surf Coast, a backyard full of iconic surf beaches and rugged, untamed landscapes.Through her photos, Romy wants to tell a story of tides turned, of sun-dried land, and light dancing upon wave tops, combining a love for the ocean and creative imagery.Romy is still that little girl from Dutton Way, excited to see what magic Mother Nature unfolds… She wakes up to her alarm, hearing nothing more than the local cockatoo's, grabbing her camera bag, coffee, and off she goes in search of a location that catches her eye and waits to see what beauty unfolds before her lens.Creating art pieces that not only bring the beach to different homes but encapsulate the delight of texture, colour depth, and feeling.Connect with Romy Roache on:Website: http://romyphotographer.com.au/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/Romyphotographer/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/romyphotographer/ Catch Surf Coast Creatives on:Website: https://surfcoastcreatives.com/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/surfcoastcreatives/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/surfcoastcreatives

There is no such thing as an off-season when you love your footy and Sixties and Forty20 are all about that business! With the Parramatta Eels linked recently to a raft of players in both official and speculative capacities, the boys take stock of where the Eels' recruitment drive has the club positioned heading into the 2021 preseason. With the club formalising a deal with the mercurial Bryce Cartwright, Sixties offers his thoughts on why he thinks the acquisition of the polarising backrower could potentially be Parramatta's best signing. Forty20 is more reserved in his assessment of the former Panther and Titan but explores the opportunity cost of signing Cartwright and why the Eels are right to roll the dice. The duo revisit the club's three announced recruits in Isaiah Papali'i, Joey Lussick and Tom Opacic, gauging how the fit into first-grade calculations in 2021 before taking shots at how many of the the four players (including Cartwright) could feature in the Round 1 line-up next season. This week's podcast is rounded out by some intriguing rumours linking Parramatta to former juniors star Bevan French and Warrior's utility Nathaniel Roache. Sixties lays out why a reunion with French makes sense for both parties while Forty20 muses on the value and risk that Roache offers. Closing comments this week feature a quick look at the overhaul of the junior pathways system as the Eels adjust their youth programs in light of the COVID-era. The boys also have some fun well-wishing Clinton Gutherson and Junior Paulo in their upcoming State of Origin debuts and looking at the last time multiple Eels represented NSW...and the answers might surprise you!
