Laurie Marbas, MD, MBA is a double board certified family medicine and lifestyle medicine physician, who has been utilizing food as medicine since 2012. Previously, she created a new medical model combining the power of nutrient-dense foods and intensive clinical psychological therapy to treat not only food addiction but also chronic disease. At another hospital, she conducted a one-month study of 26 employees on a WFPB diet. All employees were fed from the hospital’s kitchen, and each individual experienced improved health. She has spoken at the Golden VegFest in Colorado, the International Plant-based Nutrition Healthcare Conference, and other venues teaching about the value of the WFPB diet.Laurie received her dual degrees (MD and MBA) from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine and TTU School of Business. Michael Greger, M.D. FACLM is a physician, New York Times bestselling author, and internationally recognized professional speaker on a number of important public health issues. Dr. Greger has lectured at the Conference on World Affairs, the National Institutes of Health, and the International Bird Flu Summit, among countless other symposia and institutions; testified before Congress; has appeared on shows such as The Colbert Report and The Dr. Oz Show; and was invited as an expert witness in defense of Oprah Winfrey at the infamous "meat defamation" trial. In 2017, he was honored with the ACLM Lifestyle Medicine Trailblazer Award. His new book - How to Survive a Pandemic - is a vital, timely text on the pathogens that cause pandemics and how to face them. From tuberculosis and measles to AIDS and COVID-19, these infectious diseases share a common origin story: human interaction with animals. Otherwise known as zoonotic diseases for their passage from animals to humans, these infections—both pre-existing ones and those newly identified—have sparked some of the deadliest plagues in history. How did these diseases come about? And what—if anything—can we do to stop them and their fatal march into our communities, our homes, and our bodies? In How to Survive a Pandemic: Overcoming COVID-19 and Preventing the Next Deadly Outbreak, Dr. Michael Greger, physician and an internationally-recognized expert on public health issues, cuts through the prevailing noise and nonsense and reveals not only what we can do to protect ourselves and our loved ones during a pandemic, but also digs deeper into the roots of the problem and tackles the fundamental question: How can we stop the emergence of pandemic viruses in the first place? If there is one concept Dr. Greger draws from his work on preventing and reversing chronic disease, it’s that we must—whenever possible—treat the cause. All proceeds of this book are donated to pandemic prevention charities. You can get the book on DR. Greger's website or at your favorite book seller:https://nutritionfacts.org/how-to-survive-a-pandemic/

Zach has used the shelter-in-place order to reflect and "restart" his life, as he puts it. He transitioned to a mostly plant-based diet, made other lifestyle changes and has seen incredible results, that not only surprised his doctor, but allowed him to get off the blood pressure medication! Most importantly, Zach has shifted his perspective and abandoned the belief that our genes determine our health. As Dr. Greger says, genetics may load the gun, but lifestyle pulls the trigger. There are different kinds of activism. Some people give up meat, some give up leather, some... give up their house and start a farm sanctuary! How? That was my question exactly! How DO YOU start a farm sanctuary? Ask Greg and Carmen Pope and they will tell you. These two are the founders of the Farm of the Free - animal sanctuary, and a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, located on 10 acres, 60 miles east of Atlanta in Good Hope, GA. Farm of the Free Animal Sanctuary's mission is to create a space where all beings feel safe to be exactly who they are. It all started with two young animal lovers, Carmen and Greg Pope. They met in 2007 and married in 2009. One of the reasons why they connected and fell in love with each other was because of their love for animals. Since they got married in 2009, they've rescued cats, dogs, fish and rats. The two love animals so much that they both decided to stop eating them, wearing them, and supporting places that exploit them & products that test on them. They've both been vegan since 2012, but they didn't want to stop there! So they founded an animal sanctuary. In this conversation, Carmen and Greg share their journey toward veganism, what motivated each of them to make a switch, and how their activism shaped into starting a farm sanctuary. Christian Klamroth is an owner of Clorofila - a beautiful vegan restaurant located in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico. The restaurant is truly a full package - it is cozy and hip, it has welcoming staff and beautifully prepared food that is extremely nutritious, yet doesn't not sacrifice the flavor, the ingredients are sourced locally and the walls are covered with animal rights and environmental messaging. This is really unique for the area, certainly not driven by demand, so I wanted to talk to Christian about his motivation for opening the restaurant. Christian shares his journey - he is an architect by education and IT guy by training - his transition to vegan diet, living in a jungle, deep self-reflection, and resolving to a new lifestyle filled with meaning and purpose and rooted in servitude.
