Netflix's Devil May Cry (Season 2): When A Demon Story Feels Uncomfortably Human

Zealots of Nerd Entertainment

The first ten minutes of Devil May Cry Season 2 tell you exactly what kind of ride you're on: a full-on war zone, a mission with bodies on the floor, and a plan that only works if somebody plays distraction while somebody else slips in for the real objective. We had to talk about it, so we brought on Kofi Yatsu and went deep on why Season 2 feels bigger than Season 1 in scale, while still keeping that Devil May Cry identity of style, attitude, and fast-moving plot twists. We walk through the major story beats, from Arius and Ouroboros chasing the Arcana pieces to the way Dante, Lady, and Vergil keep getting pulled into the same collision course. Along the way, we get into the details that matter to longtime fans of the Devil May Cry games: what the show keeps canon, what it remixes, and why the remixes often help. Our favorite thread is Vergil, because this version leans harder into persuasion and ideology instead of making him a one-note “kill Dante” villain, and that makes their dialogue feel like two brothers arguing through trauma, pride, and legacy. We also keep it honest about the nitpicks: moments that strain believability, power-set choices we wish the anime used more (yes, we're looking at summon swords), and why some fights don't quite hit that “style meter” feeling we expect. Then we close with ratings, Season 3 hopes, and the big question the season leaves hanging: who's actually left to run things after the dust settles? If you're watching the Devil May Cry Netflix anime and you want a Season 2 review that mixes recap, canon talk, and real critique, hit play. Send us Fan MailSince the time of the Reformation, England has had an established Church alongside a rich variety of Protestant Dissenters as well as a group of Roman Catholic hold-outs. The country exemplifies the tense but productive diversity in "sect and cult" which T.S. Eliot describes in his book Notes Toward the Definition of Culture. A proper balance of unity and diversity in religion is one of the three necessary conditions, Eliot says, for a thriving culture. In this episode, Jonathan and Ryan discuss how to distinguish the tangled categories of "religion" and of "culture," the salient differences between a Protestant and a Catholic country, and the homogenization of American religious life due to suburbanization.Alan Jacobs's The Year of Our Lord 1943: https://bookshop.org/a/25626/9780190864651T.S. Incipe, parve puer - "Get started, little boy..." These are the words Roman poet Vergil used in his famous Fourth Eclogue of 40 B.C., bidding the powerful child yet born, son of a divine father, and of a 'virgo', to usher in a new Golden Age after a time of warfare. But who precisely is this puer, who will make war to cease, cause the poisonous serpents to go docile, release draught animals from toilsome servitude, make the hillsides blossom verdant, rollback weeds and thorns, and generally seem to fulfill the vision of Isaiah 11? Come along as we investigate this fascinating question with the help of Constantine the Great, Ella Bourne, H.J. Rose, John Dryden, and more. Yes, there's some nonsense along the way, but this Ad Navseam seasonal epsiode will give you some profundities to ponder. And, stick around for a Christmas-themed outro thanks to the generosity of guitar virtuouso Paul Gilbert! The Aeneid stands as a towering work of Classical Roman literature and a gripping dramatization of the best and worst of human nature. In the process of creating this epic poem, Vergil (70–19 BCE) became a living legend. But the real Vergil is a shadowy figure; we know that he was born into a modest rural family, that he led a private and solitary life, and that, in spite of poor health and unusual emotional vulnerabilities, he worked tirelessly to achieve exquisite new effects in verse. Vergil's most famous work, the Aeneid, was commissioned by the emperor Augustus, who published the epic despite Vergil's dying wish that it be destroyed. In Vergil: The Poet's Life (Yale UP, 2023), Sarah Ruden, widely praised for her translation of the Aeneid, uses evidence from Roman life and history alongside Vergil's own writings in an endeavor to reconstruct his life and personality. Through her intimate knowledge of Vergil's work, she evokes the image of a poet who was committed to creating something astonishingly new and memorable, even at great personal cost. Det indre univers: Noocytternes stemmer “A mother should name her offspring, shouldn't she?” Jens: ⭐⭐⭐Anders: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Shownotes Siden sidst Anders har læst og set: Chuck Tingle – Lucky Day Ian McEwan – What We Can Know : Smuk, næsten kirurgisk præcis clifi om erkendelse og klima. Ken Liu – All That We See or Seem: En cyberpunket sag i Doctorow-stilen.

The first six of the poem's twelve books tell the story of Aeneas' wanderings from Troy to Italy, and the poem's second half treats the Trojans' ultimately victorious war upon the Latins, under whose name Aeneas and his Trojan followers are destined to be subsumed. The poem was commissioned from Vergil by the Emperor Augustus to glorify Rome. Several critics think that the hero Aeneas' abandonment of the Cartheginian Queen Dido, is meant as a statement of how Augustus' enemy, Mark Anthony, should have behaved with the Egyptian Queen Cleopatra. Send us a textTwo things can be true at once: Jaron “Boots” Ennis looked sharp at 154 — and it's still way too early to crown him the heir to Terence Crawford. We open with a reality check on tune-ups, why they exist, and what actually proves greatness when you jump weight. Then we map the route Boots needs—Madrimov, Tszyu, maybe Thurman—so talent meets resistance that talks back. The hype's fine. Skipping steps isn't.Next, we dive into the fight that can light up the fall: Vergil Ortiz Jr. vs Erickson Lubin. We break down Ortiz's pressure and body work against Lubin's patience and clean shots, asking the only question that matters: Can Lubin keep Vergil honest without the kind of thud that stops a freight train? With Ortiz's hand health, Crawford's move toward 160, and a potential Boots showdown looming, this one carries real weight. Then it's heavyweight chaos: Joseph Parker vs Fabio Wardley—a live-betting puzzle pitting Parker's composure against Wardley's raw power. We talk odds, variance, and why discipline is the only cheat code up top. From there, it's the sanctioning-body traffic jam featuring Usyk, Pulev, and Itauma, each caught in mandatory madness.Promotion gets its moment too: Jake Paul's MVP keeps finding crossover gold while Danny Garcia's Brooklyn KO reminds us what real matchmaking means. It's that rare week where business meets boxing—and one clean hook can still steal the show.THE SPAR-INN ON YOUTUBE

Welcome back to Tinfoil Tales! On this episode I am joined by author Giano Cromley. Giano had a Bigfoot experience years ago that influenced him to write the novel American Mythology. This big-hearted novel follows two lifelong friends, Jute and Virgil, the only members of the Basic Bigfoot Society in rural Montana. Each year, they go on an expedition to find the infamous Sasquatch, with little success. But then the country's foremost Bigfoot expert offers to join them, along with his ambitious documentarian, raising the stakes. Vergil's college-aged daughter is skeptical of this audience, and in order to protect her dad, joins in on the trip. Once in the mountains, things start to get weird quickly. Whether it's Bigfoot or not, something spooky is definitely going on. AMERICAN MYTHOLOGY is a humorous and touching look at how we move forward through crises with friends and family. If you'll forgive the pun, it's the definition of campy horror, with interspersed diary entries from previous explorers only upping the eerie ante. And it's also a beautiful ode to the natural world and how we can protect it.https://www.penguinrandomhouse.com/books/747316/american-mythology-by-giano-cromley/Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/tinfoil-tales--6147818/support.Tinfoil Tales Podcast - Show Notes

In 2003, Dennis R. MacDonald published an important monograph with Yale University Press entitled: Does the New Testament Imitate Homer? Four Cases from the Acts of the Apostles. In the provocative opening salvo, MacDonald explains: ‘"'Who would claim that the writing of prose is not reliant on the Homeric poems?' This rhetorical question by a teacher of rhetoric requires a negative answer: no ancient intellectual would have doubted that the Iliad and the Odyssey informed the composition of prose, including potentially the stories of the New Testament." Come along this week as Jeff and Dave tackle the big questions about the form-criticism take on the New Testament vs. imitation (μίμησις). MacDonald lays out his six criteria, and we get into the nit and grit of some first century compositional realities. Is MacDonald's thesis ultimately persuaive? Did Luke in Acts imitate Vergil, Homer, neither, or something else altogether? It's a complicated topic, for sure, with a long and thus far intractable history.
