I’m so stoked to have Amil host this conversation with James where they chat about the experience and the importance of being visible. Is all service design ** good ** service design? If we assume it isn't how do you recognise what's good and what's not? In this you'll learn about the importance of ethics in design. Because it's your moral compass that guides you forward when you have to make decisions which require certain trade offs. The guest in this episode James Samperi talks about how they are developing a manifesto to help them in this process. We also talk about craft within service design. A topic that we've addressed in past episodes but it keeps coming back. The reason is that a lot of people are still unsure what the practice of service design entails. It's important that we're as a professional field are able to articulate what the traits are of a good service designer, service design team and service design project. The final topic is connected to the previous one. We're seeing that service design is becoming more and more fragmented. There are different "flavours" of it appearing on the market. Agencies that focus purely on digital service design, others who just focus on training and there's group who preaches the holistic version of it. Diversity can be great but it can also work against us for instance when clients get confused and end up buying the wrong flavour... As you'll hear James is someone who's been in the field for a long time. The questions and observations he shares are deeply rooted in practical experience. I hope you'll enjoy the episode and learn a thing or two. ** Pass It Forward ** If enjoyed this episode and found it helpful please consider sharing it with just 1 other person you know. Who doesn’t love New York?Well, many New Yorkers we’ve spoken to in the past are not always enthusiastic about their city, but one exception is certainly James Maher.James is a street, fine art, and portrait photographer who recently released a book titled “The New York Photographer’s Travel Guide,The Best Places to Photograph from a Professional Photographer, Tour Guide, and Lifelong New Yorker” and we asked him about his favorite locations and his best tips for taking the best photos of the city that never sleeps. That’s not the only book by James that we discussed, the other one being his most recent, “Creative Freelance Marketing: Traditional and Digital Marketing Strategies for Photography, Art, and Creative Businesses.” Of course, we tried to pick his brains with respect to the topic of this other book. So, whether you’d like to make the best of a photo trip to New York for your own pleasure or you’re in it commercially, this episode has something for everyone. Over the last two years, the Making Comics Gutter Talk podcast has been fortunate enough to speak to amazing artists from international locations such as Canada, Australia, and Denmark. In today's episode, we place a checkmark next to Ireland as Adam sits down with Irish writer and filmmaker James Mulholland. It was borderline middle of the night for James at the time of the conversation but a great conversation was had. The episode begins with some political soapboxing but we promise, it soon dives into comics and the arts, and also the love James has for the city of Orlando, Florida. Another topic that comes up is the late start James got when getting into comics. It's just more proof that there is no single path an individual must take to become a comic artist. One of these days the MakingComics.com crew will travel abroad to spread the good word in person. There's a reason the word "worldwide" is in our name. But until then, our next best option is to speak to folks outside of the United States through the Gutter Talk podcast. Sure, email works, too, but that's just not nearly as much fun as speaking to someone online in person-ish. It really is the next best thing. You can take our word for it but we highly advise you listen to this episode with James Mulholland, and other podcasts, for yourself.
