Today, I'm chatting with Gwen Jimmere. Gwen is a natural hair guru and CEO/Founder of Naturalicious. The idea to launch a natural hair brand came to Gwen in 2013. That year, she was dealing with being laid off, a divorce, and caring for her 1-year-old son. At the time, she had $32 to her name and had to think critically about what to do to generate income. That's when she decided to turn her hobby of creating all-natural hair care products into a business. Gwen's resilience has propelled Naturalicious to incredible success—the brand is sold in major retail stores like Whole Foods, Sally Beauty and Ulta Beauty. She's also made history as the first African American woman to hold a patent for a natural hair product. Gwen has also grown her Detroit-based team from 1 to 13, expanded into skincare and supplements, and written a book. During the episode, Gwen and I chatted about her journey and the lessons she's learned along the way. Press play to hear from Gwen and I hope you enjoy the episode! This week we’re talking about Naturalicious, Envi; The Good & The Bad!!! The Maury Show, and more.
On Episode 12 of “That’s What I’m Saying! The podcast, Shaun and Ny discuss Part Two of the epic rap battle between Drake and Pusha T, that early Christmas gift of “the Story of Adidon”, and the intersection of black identity and racial stereotypes, fatherhood and abandonment. The ladies briefly touch on the hypocrisy of reality star twinsies, #45 and Kim Kardashian meeting on (of course) prison reform, before talking about LeBron James telling reporters ‘I can’t wit’ y’all right now’ then commencing to putting on his shades, picking up his murse (man-purse) and exiting stage left. The conversation continues with talk of Rihanna allegedly getting bored with her billionaire boyfriend (and Chris Brown aligning himself to slide up in her DM’s soon after), and Roseanne Barr ruining everyone’s paycheck with her racist tweets. On the woke minute the ladies discuss the state of Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria and the suspicious death of Sadaria Davis. The ladies then raise awareness to the story of Gregory Vaughn Hill, Jr., his killing at the hands of police and the disgraceful outcome of his family’s wrongful death lawsuit. The conversation lightens up with a review of Jada Pinkett Smith’s “Red Table Talk Show” on Facebook. On the Weekend D**k Report, the ladies attempt to answer a listener’s question: “are hoes winning”. On I Reminisce, I Reminisce - the ladies talk about the song that inspired the segment of the show by paying tribute to Pete Rock and C.L. Smooth’s “They Reminisce Over You – T.R.O.Y.” off their album Mecca and the Soul Brother. The episode ends with the ladies showing their support for Naturalicious, a black-woman owned natural hair care products business.
