The attack on September 11, 2001 became America's tragedy. We all remember where we where when it happened. We know the stories of those that made it out and, sadly, those that didn't. What we don't hear as much are from those that are left behind when their loved ones perished.  Felice Zaslow lost her husband Ira in the World Trade Center on that horrible day. Through the days, weeks, and months that followed, she had to find her way through trauma to healing- a path every grieving person must navigate. This is her story of processing grief, moving forward and also paying tribute to the beautiful love her and Ira had.  May we never forget the attacks of 9/11, those lost and also their loved ones who continue to carry the weight of the loss forward with them.  Note: Also listen to episode 1 with guest Rich Winner, who survived that fateful day, escaping the first WTC building hit. When life doesn't go as planned, how do you keep going — and still find joy along the way? In this moving conversation, pediatrician, rare disease advocate, and author Dr. Tasha Faruki joins me to share her extraordinary journey as a mother navigating her daughter's complex medical needs. From the first whispers that something was different, to the raw reality of “failure to thrive,” to redefining joy through Make-A-Wish surfboards in Hawaii, Dr. Tasha's story is one of grit, surrender, and radical love. We talk about: Trusting your instincts when everyone says “don't worry” Letting go of the plan you thought your life would follow Siblings, family repair, and the unspoken challenges behind the scenes The power of asking “Why not?” instead of “Why me?” Living by the family motto: Suck the joy out of life Some quotes from the episode: "Our children carry the medicine we need." "I had to stop waiting for joy to fall into my lap and start intentionally finding it." "It's incredibly brutal and it's incredibly beautiful — and both can be true."

Jesus teaches that lust always takes while love always gives, challenging us to examine our hearts and actions. This principle extends beyond sexual temptation to all areas where sinful desires compete with godly love. Taking drastic measures to guard against temptation involves carefully monitoring what we see, who we spend time with, and how we speak. The goal isn't perfection but progress in pursuing holiness, recognizing that our private and public lives should reflect consistent godly character.

Forgiveness, while challenging, is fundamental to Christian faith and emotional wellbeing. It doesn't mean approving wrongdoing, forgetting what happened, or immediately restoring trust. Instead, true forgiveness is a daily choice that requires releasing bitterness and following God's example of grace. Understanding that forgiven people forgive others, Christians are called to make forgiveness a habit, even when it's difficult. This process often involves repeatedly choosing to forgive, giving situations to God, and remembering our own forgiveness.

Send us a textThis week's Torah portion recounts Abraham's purchase of the Cave of Machpelah as a burial site for Sarah, a moment steeped in profound symbolism. Juxtaposed with Isaac and Rebecca's love story, the Torah reveals an eternal truth about relationships: true love is not confined to what is seen above the surface. It is rooted in a deeper, timeless connection that exists "beneath the ground." From the bond between husband and wife to the eternal relationship between humanity and G-d, the portion teaches us to view relationships not just as contracts but as reunions of souls.Key Takeaways:Two Layers of Relationships: Relationships have a conscious, emotional dimension (above ground) and an intrinsic, soul-level connection (beneath the ground). Both are vital but serve different roles in sustaining love.Eternal Connection: The Torah's comparison between marriage and Abraham's purchase of a burial cave highlights the enduring nature of a soul connection. A true relationship is not severed by life's challenges—or even by death.Marriage as Reunion: A Jewish marriage reflects the reunification of two halves of one soul, a bond that transcends conscious feelings and persists through trials.Divine Parallel: Our relationship with G-d mirrors marriage. Even during times of spiritual disconnection, our inherent bond with the Divine remains unbroken, waiting to be rekindled.A Model for Life: Abraham's treatment of Sarah after her passing and Isaac and Rebecca's enduring marriage remind us that loyalty and trust stem from recognizing the deeper, eternal bond in every relationship.#Relationships #BibleStudy #TorahPortion #Torah #Bible #Love #JewishMarriage #Kabbalah Support the showGot your own question for Rabbi Bernath? Title: Lessons in Love Speaker: Daniel Fuoco Passage: 1 John 3:11-24 If I were to ask you, "What is love?" the definitions would be endless, and different from person to person. We also use the word "love" in varying degrees. "I love tacos." "I love that song!" "I love my daughter." All things are not equal in the love department. The Bible talks a lot about love... but what kind of love? In what context? What does the Bible mean when it says that we are to love? This Sunday the apostle John will take us to school as we get some Lessons in Love.
